Fear has a way of stealing our confidence, but what if the solution isn't fighting fear harder? In this inspiring episode of Walking With the Savior Podcast Daily, John Kirkman explores the powerful truth found in 1 John 4:18: "Perfect love casteth out fear."
Using examples from David facing Goliath, Esther approaching the king, and Peter walking on water, John explains that true confidence doesn't come from believing more in ourselves—it comes from believing more in Jesus Christ. When we focus on the Savior instead of our fears, we begin to see ourselves through His eyes and remember who we really are: beloved children of God.
If fear has been whispering doubts into your mind, this episode offers a simple but life-changing invitation: spend more time remembering God's love, His guidance, and the moments He has shown up in your life. As you do, confidence naturally begins to grow because perfect love leaves little room for fear.

1 John 4 verse 8. There's no fear in love, but perfect love casteth out fear. Fear and confidence are like kids on a seesaw. When one goes up, the other usually goes down. As fear goes up, love goes down. As love goes up, fear goes down. When we feel God's love, our confidence soars. A lot of us spend our time dealing with the fear, talking ourselves out of fear, or trying to walk through fear, analyzing it, wrestling it, giving it a pep talk. But the scripture, John, here reminds us there's an even better way, and that is to focus on Jesus Christ. Think about the people in the scriptures who displayed remarkable faith. You got David who faced Goliath. And let's be honest, he wasn't exactly the odds-on favorite. He showed up and he said, God has delivered you into my hands. Esther had walked into a room where her invitation was obviously lost in the mail. And Peter literally walked on water because he was focused on Christ. The moment he took his eyes off Christ and focused on the waves, the fear he began to sink. Confidence grows when we quit asking, Am I enough? And start asking, wait, but isn't God already enough? Of course. The answer is yes. And the closer you get to Jesus Christ, the more you see yourself through his eyes. You're not forgotten, you're not abandoned, you're not stuck on life's sidelines. You are, no kidding, a child of God. Fear whispers, what if I totally mess this up? Love shouts back, I'm right here with you. Fear grumbles, what if I'm just not good enough? Love replies, I've got you covered. Fear nags, what if everything goes sideways? Love responds, trust me, I've got you. And I've got this. The more deeply we experience the Savior's love, the less room we have for fear. So if fear is hanging out in your life today, take a little time out and start to remember the moments where God has shown up in your life. Remember those peaceful moments where you felt his love. Remember those peaceful moments where you felt a whisper from his spirit. You might just notice that confidence isn't something you force, it's something that starts to bubble up, like bubbles from blowing bubbles. The more you hang out in God's love, the more your confidence grows. Because, yep, perfect love casts out all fear. Thanks for hanging out today with Walking with the Savior Podcast.
