A Bad Day Doesn't Define You

We've all had days where nothing seems to go right. Mistakes pile up, opportunities slip away, and by the end of the day it's easy to wonder if we'll ever get it right. In this encouraging episode of Walking With the Savior Podcast, John Kirkman reminds us that one bad day doesn't define who we are—and it doesn't define how Jesus Christ sees us.

Using examples from athletics and the life of the Apostle Peter, John explains that the Savior never expected perfection on the first try. Instead, He offers forgiveness, strength, and the opportunity to begin again. John also shares the importance of developing a daily spiritual "post-game routine" by ending each day with prayer, gratitude, repentance, and reflection before placing yesterday in the Savior's hands. Through Jesus Christ, every morning is a fresh start. The sun will rise tomorrow, and the Son will help you rise too.

Have you ever had one of those days when nothing seems to go right and you're like, not this now, not this, again, that's the way the day's gone. No matter how hard you try, you keep making mistakes. You miss opportunities, things don't work out the way you had hoped. By the end of the day, you wonder if you'll ever get it right. Athletes know this feeling well. Some practices are amazing, others are a struggle. But every great athlete learns an important truth. A bad game doesn't define you, and neither does a bad day. I think that's one of the most beautiful messages about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our Savior never expected us to be perfect on the first try. He knew we would be stumbling, he knew we would be making mistakes. That's why he came, not just to forgive us, but to help us grow. The Lord isn't standing on the sidelines, keeping score of our failures. He's your greatest coach, your greatest advocate, he's your greatest source of strength. Every time you fall, he invites you to get back up, and he's there to help you back up. Think about Peter. Stepped out on that boat in faith, but then he sank. He denied the Savior three times, yet Jesus didn't define Peter by his failures. He lifted him up, he forgave him. And the Savior does the same for us. Maybe that's why it's so valuable to have a spiritual post-game routine at the end of each day. Take a few quiet moments with the Lord. Thank him for the good that happened. Ask him what he wants you to learn from your mistakes. If you need forgiveness, receive it through sincere prayer and repentance. If you need strength, ask for it. Then leave the day in his hands. Leave the day with him. Don't carry yesterday's failures into tomorrow's opportunities. Because through Jesus Christ, every morning is a reminder that his mercies are new. Jesus Christ means there is always hope. There is always another chance to choose faith, to improve, to get better, to serve, to love, and to begin again. So if today didn't go the way you hoped, don't quit. The sun will rise tomorrow. The sun, S-U-N will rise tomorrow. And the Sun S-O-N will help us rise tomorrow. The Savior is still with you. He hasn't left you. His grace will still be sufficient tomorrow. And it's still sufficient today. His invitation will still be the same. Come, follow me. Tomorrow's a due day, friend.
