All right, well, welcome everybody. Our guest uh is Dave, an optimal health physician from New Zealand, a graduate of Otago Medical School. He built one of New Zealand's largest medical practices before moving into medical education at Auckland Medical School. He's also the founder of SurfAid International, an award-winning humanitarian charity focused on improving health in remote communities. Today we talk about what it really takes to improve cognition, support mitochondrial health, and extend both health span and quality of life in a rapidly evolving world of medical science. Dave, we're so honored that you would be with us and talk to us about everything that you're doing. So how are you doing today?

Is that yeah, I heard four minutes is pretty optimal. Is that true? The three to four minutes.

Yeah, yeah. Sometimes I I uh have to wear certain pairs of underpants to protect my manfellas. But uh the the research would suggest if you can do 11 minutes a week, you're gonna get uh the Sertun pathway, the longevity pathway is gonna be turned on. That's wonderful. That's wonderful.

Well, thanks so much for joining us on the Poll Speed this morning. Uh for me, this morning, for you, this evening in in New Zealand. But could you tell us a little bit about yourself and your background? Um, you know, above and beyond the ice baths and the saunas.

Yeah, sure. Well, I I got a bit fed up with being um, you know, the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff, uh, which most doctors are. We we we see all this chronic disease. We do sick care, not really health care. And we have, as a lot of people know, we have this epidemic of chronic disease uh throughout the Western world, and it's due to our lifestyle. So uh, and then both my parents started getting Alzheimer's. So I put one-on-one together and said, let's go and study how to turn this around. And I ended up in San Francisco with Professor Bredison, uh, who's a neurologist who has a theory on Alzheimer's, and uh we were the first class to go there to the Buck Institute of Uh Aging and brought that skill set back, stayed in touch with Dale, and um we ended up having so much success, we co-published the reversal of a hundred cases of Alzheimer's. That's with Professor Bredison, and that's never been done before. And what this is is looking at all the underlying causes of uh what could happen to a brain like mercury, bad teeth, diabetes, poor diet, lack of exercise, poor sleep, sleep apnea. All of these things have an effect on the brain. So you've got to go about working with your patient and client to reverse those. And then we can add in things like, you know, even herbs from thousands of years ago that are affected, barcopa, ashwagandha, high-dose fish oil to bring down the inflammation. And we did that back then, but now as we'll we'll talk, we've got a lot of new regenerative therapies that are very, very exciting that are quite uh changing the game on um, changing the outcomes for people with uh cognitive decline. So I run an um international telemedicine practice of people all over the world, and they either come to me with a chronic disease that we need to, so we've done a lot of reversing of diabetes as well through lifestyle. So reverse Alzheimer's, we uh pick up uh heart disease early with a little carotid scan, and we can stabilize the plaques and the arteries. So we can um we do very advanced testing genetics, uh we call omnix, um, looking at vulnerabilities in each individual, up to 180 biomarkers. So using new, like we can just send a fingerprint test to you, uh you do that, send it off to the lab, we have a result within 10 days, and then I'll spend a lot of time uh just working out an optimal health plan for each individual. And uh, so that that's kind of what I do uh day to day, and uh as we might discuss, I'm involved in a new initiative bringing the new regenerative therapies. We call them next gen regen therapies to the world uh with my partner, Dr. Alex Gwinberg.

That is so exciting, and that that's what drew us to you is all you know a lot of your research and what you guys have done. And with our with our product, Cardio Miracle, um, we have over 50 whole and organic fruits and vegetables in our product, and that creates nitric oxide and helps with the the blood barrier as well as helping to you know dilate the blood and the uh vessels and the arteries. And so I I have to ask, one of my first questions for you is can we please hear about your 90-year-old patient with dementia that you and I were talking about offline? Yeah, so exciting.

Yeah, so this is actually a patient of my partner in in a company called Inaceldo, and uh he had a 90-year-old woman who had uh a moderate dementia with aphasia, meaning dementia had affected her ability to speak. And we have uh access through relationships with biotech companies to the very latest regenerative therapies, and she was given um stem cells, different types of stem cells, especially what we call mu cells. And mu cells are quite wild, um, worth worth my time explaining it, because we all have mu cells, and it's part of the way we regenerate. But a mu cell has the ability to run around the blood detecting damaged organs, and it and it literally grabs a fragment, in this case, it was the brain cell neuron, takes it in and says, Okay, I've got a damaged brain cell here. Something's going on up in the brain, let's go up there, and I'm gonna help out. I'm gonna actually turn in to a neuron. So you get these, it's wild. So these new cells start off as a little, they're one to two percent of all stem cells, they're the tough guys. They're the guys that uh that survive everything, and then they can turn into, or if they in the blood and they pick up a damaged kidney, a little kidney fragment, they'll go to the kidney. And um, so she had we can now give it up the nose into the brain and into the uh she had a series of therapies, and she started speaking again, um, and she started getting up out of bed and conversing with her family. She's not back to what she was, she's never going to be, but talk about an improved quality of life. So we're at the start of this. We don't know exactly what these things, when you put them together, are capable of. And what's exciting is we can do synergism. We're striving to look at the question: okay, if we use Muse cells, what about the peptide CMAX up the nose? What about the clotho gene therapy that we should talk about? What happens when we put all those three together? So we look at the biological pathways and we go, well, that should synergize with that. And that should one in one might even be at least two, might be three. Um, so we've got a series now, and we're starting to work with patients that have chronic disease that where medicine really hasn't been able to help them much. Um, so dementia is obviously a big one, head injury. I gave a client of mine who had to leave his law practice from multiple rugby injuries, um, a bit like you're a football that you have, they get this nasty condition. We put clotho drops up his nose. He contacted me, in fact, he sent me a testimonial raving, he said, never felt as good as he has in years. And we documented his cognitive score going from here up, like six weeks later, after the clotho drops. Normally we give it uh in the arm, we inject the clothoplasmid, but he didn't have much money, so we gave him uh a discount and just put the drops up his nose. Um, so we're we're putting all these therapies together now, along with lifestyle. People forget, you know, it's easy for me to get very excited about these regenerative therapies, but you've got to remember 2% of the population in America have what's called optimal health. 2%. Okay? So that's like normal blood pressure, normal weight, five fruits and vegetables a day, 150 minutes of exercise a week, two percent. Wow. So don't forget, strive to get into that two percent. Do whatever it takes. Take your statin if you have to to get your cholesterol down. But uh take your cardio miracle to drop your blood pressure and help you, you know. But um, but the it's now true. I'm speaking at a conference on this, um, and I'll be talking about getting into optimal health range, but it is now true we have so many new tools in our toolbox that we can augment a natural lifestyle and and partly uh uh partly um compensate for the bad lifestyle that most but most of us live. Yeah.

Well, how how how important would the synergi synergistic effect be when including whole and organic fruits and vegetables into your diet um is is uh I would assume that's a very important aspect of it. Is that correct?

Oh, it's so important. And in fact, there's good studies. Um, so there's Dr. Kyra Fitzgerald's work where she took 55-year-olds, healthy 55-year-olds, and it was called the Methylation Adaption Lifestyle Program. People can look this up. But she used these latest uh methylation DNA tests that give you a biological age. And in eight weeks of focusing on a bit of exercise, it wasn't much, some meditation, some sleep, and a good diet, plus supplementing with these what we call methylation adaptogens. So they are uh green tea, extract, turmeric, arberry, and you know, other other ingredients. Dropped the biological age 3.2 years in eight weeks. Whoa, wow. And and they measured this at the DNA level.

So people please get your greens, get your colors, get your berries. That makes a difference at your DNA level. Totally. The expression of genes. Yeah.

Yeah, and that that actually puts me right into my next question. Uh, can Alzheimer's can they really be detected 20 years before symptoms?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so this is new in 2026. It's called the PTAW. I've already done a we we order it for our clients. So, you know, because often you you have um a father with uh early dementia and you're you're working with them, and then the the son or the daughter will come on and go, well, dad's got the Alzheimer's gene. What about me? What do I do? I say, well, the first thing you've got to do is have a P Tau 217. Tau is so the definition of Alzheimer's at post-mortem is amyloid plaques and tau pro tangles, these things that mess up the neurons and the uh messages through the brain. But if you're gonna get Alzheimer's, you st it starts 20 to 30 years this process before you get your symptoms. So these tau tangles break up and the immune system processes them, and uh some of them find themselves in the spinal fluid, and from there they find themselves into their blood. So you're actually picking up broken down towel tangles from the brain in the blood 20 years before the first symptom. So this is crazy. Now that we're talking about these regenerative therapies, no one, no one with two high T17s, if they come to me and do as I tell them, that's an if, uh, and they use this therapies, they're gonna get Alzheimer's. Uh that's my prediction. And prove me wrong, but uh if they do what what good ther good trained functional medicine doctors who specialize in neurodegeneration, who have the Muse cells and stem cells and clothed gene therapy and peptides in their toolbox, and the person does a good lifestyle, uh, they're not getting outzimers. It's a thing of the past. It'll be a rare disease. There'll be some, because there are some other genes that are gonna be to date, we haven't got an answer for, but it'll be a rare disease. It's so exciting to be able to say to the family, get this done. And not only that, we use it to gauge our therapies. So if it's high, we start our therapies, if it's not coming down, we've got to go, you know, we've got to change, or we've got to add something, or it's just not working for you. So let's bring in a new peptide. Uh, add two or three mitochondrial peptides, for example, we might do. Or let's change to a uh different nasal spray up into the brain. So there's a lot of things in our toolbox, which is as a doctor, you know, an old doctor, um, you know, that started off with a just this little toolbox in my medical kit. I've now got these crazy things. It's so exciting to be able to help people that would really not get much help from medicine.

Yeah, and I I I love your I love your saying when we were offline. You were you were saying, you said it a couple times. You said this real sci-fi stuff, you know, like it. I love that. So I, you know, I s I read a study last week actually, um, that talked about that anytime that you disrupt or get less than three hours of sleep a night, you're actually activating some parts of uh that could cause dementia in the future. So do would you agree with something like that?

Is that a Oh absolutely. I've become completely sleep, is the number one my partner and I joke about it, uh, number one priority. Yep. Uh and and after this, I will go to bed. I have to be asleep at nine, I'll do five minutes of humming and breath work to get myself into heart rate variability of high, they'll improve. So sleep is where we clean our brains. So we have it's only discovered ten years ago. We have this lymphatic system that everyone has known about for hundreds of years, but there's an extension into the brain, and there's at night time, it literally expands, and the brain cells all crush up to give like it's like street cleaners coming through with the imagine a city where all the two buildings crush up and the streets become wider and the cleaners come through and take out all the debris. And if you don't get, and the deep sleep and the REM sleep is so important too. So if you don't get into deep sleep, these the debris's not cleaned and it's left to create inflammation in the brain. And inflammation in the brain is you know really a major underlying cause of Alzheimer's and and other dementias too. So you've got to get your sleep. And the other thing is people get into a vicious cycle. If you don't get a good sleep, you eat 300 calories more the next day. So I I help people reverse their diabetes. We focus on their sleep. It sounds crazy. Uh obviously, we talk about their diet, but um if they've got bad sleep, we're not gonna be able to reverse their diabetes as well. They're hungry, they're angry, you know, you know, they're irritable, and um, they're just gonna reach for something that will release dopamine like a chocolate bar. Yeah, they're not so interested in my my can of sardines. Yeah.

I love the your can of sardines. No, I've I've I'm I do all this research because I I personally I I ballooned up to almost 500 pounds, and so I have lost over the past five years, I've lost over 200 pounds and really taken my health into my own hands. And um, you know, I do yesterday I did 28,000 steps. You know, I make sure that every night I get at least seven, eight hours of sleep. Um, like last night. Like I know I was gonna be up this morning for this interview at six. So yeah, I went to bed at eight, you know, eight o'clock. So just to make sure I had enough sleep, and I really prioritize that as a 42-year-old because I didn't prioritize it in my 20s, and I'm feeling it now as a 42-year-old. And yeah, and I really now it's like really top of mind and my top of my priority, uh, along with all my health in general. So um, you know, I really am interested in what makes your uh Bredison, is it Bredison Plus approach different? Is that what it's called?

Yeah, so um we've told Dale about this, and so Dale Bredison's an extraordinary research neurologist who had this theory that's turning out to be true, um, that all these subfactors they're causing perturbations can cause a little uh switch in the brain. To when that switch is turned on, it starts producing amyloid, plaque, and inflammation, and brain brain cells start pulling apart. And so he uh just published, or he hasn't published, it's a peer review, but if you go to the website ApolloCode.com, the preliminary results are all there of a multi-site control trial using what is a functional medicine, largely lifestyle intervention. So fixing your diet, fixing your sleep, all these things that are important, plus quite a lot of supplements. Um, you know, people need B12 or Bacopa or and uh he's showing that it's by far the most effective thing you can do for early cognitive loss. So it's six times more effective than this nasty drug. Most people are going to get a diagnosis of Alzheimer's, they'll be offered an intravenous drug called Lacanamab, which is very expensive. You have to go every two weeks to have a drip. It doesn't work very well. It does in some people slow the decline, but Brettison's protocol done well reverses your decline. You you your cognitive scores have been going down and then and they now start coming back up, and much better quality of life. So we now ask the question um okay, so the Bredison protocol works, fantastic. Not everyone can get to uh discipline enough to get into a ketoterian type diet or do the exercise or brain training. Plus, we wanted to ask the question like if you've got moderate dementia, how how well can we get you functioning? How much better can we get you functioning by using regenerative, this next generation of regenerative therapies? The the Muse cells, the small stem cells, the clotho therapy, the peptides, putting all these together plus the Bredison protocol. Just how far can we push this? Um, how far is the brain capable of recovering? And we know it can, it is working. We just described one case, right? We we've got a lot more to learn. There's no doubt about that. So we actually have a um in Bali, we have a cognitive regenerate rejuvenation program at a wellness resort called Revivo Resorts. People can look at a beautiful place, it's set up with all the red lights and the pulse electromagnetic therapy and the cell gym and the saunas and you know, and the exercise and private gym and trainers, and uh where people can come specifically to help rejuvenate their brain, get into the habit of eating really good, healthy food, and um, you know, then we can pass it on to the clinics that we associate with to give some of these advanced therapies. And uh we're working because Bali's now established a special economic zone. Wow. So it's early days, can't say too much, but uh we are we are already ha working with one of the clinics there, and because it's a special zone, they can uh apply for access for some of these regenerative therapies that can't be used anywhere else. There's also a clinic in Mexico, and we're we're gonna be building a clinic in uh one of the island nations in the Pacific that we're working with. Um until it opens, I won't mention exactly where, but we have an MOU with the government that says you will be able to use these therapies as long as you know the onus is actually on us. The onus is on our the doctors to make sure one, they're safe, and two, that the person all therapies have some risks. Uh that the person's coming is fully aware of the risks that they might be taking. And usually it's not really a risk, it's just it's an unknown. Right? They haven't been through these a lot of them been through a safety trial. We like that, obviously, because we like to have seen that they are safe, but a lot of them haven't been through phase two and phase three trials because they literally can take ten years, and problem with Alzheimer's doesn't have 10 years. So the right to try and the compassionate use of, responsible use of these next generation therapies, um, we're all for it, and we're gonna be helping a lot of people.

I love it. Yeah, you're you're a busy, busy, busy man. I love it. It's sounds like you're helping a lot of people. Uh, you mentioned the colotho gene. Could you expound on that? And why is it why is it called the longevity gene?

SPEAKER_00

Colotho gene is a fascinating thing. It's in all mammals, it's a natural uh protein, and it's what we call pleotropic in that it affects many different pathways. Okay, so it's upstream of aging. You know, people look at inflammation ages, you poor sleeper, you know, all of these things are important, but clothogene impacts, I mean, it does impact different pathways. Uh people won't know what they are, but the WINT pathway for cancer, uh, TGF and um NF kappa B pathways for inflammation, it can reduce your inflammatory pathways by 50%. It stimulates brain cells to come together, it heals kidney fibrosis, it reduces inflammation and lining of the arteries. Uh so it has this multiple organ effect. People with high clotho levels live on average six to eight years longer. Some people were blessed, they have uh gene and they have higher levels. Uh, people have higher IQs with higher clotho gene. So as you get older, it drops, and if you have chronic disease, it seems to drop. You can boost it naturally with exercise and good diet, so lifestyle does positively imp but 20 years ago a Japanese scientist discovered this, and we've been busy researching there's there's three and a half thousand published paper. If people go to Clotho, PubMed, and go K-L-O-T-H-O, they'll find it. The first human trials on dementia, just five cases were done, and there's FDA-approved trials going to start this year or next year. Um, but some of us have got our hands on it, and um we've been giving it to people with cognitive decline, and I thought I'd try it myself, and uh, you know, I have actually well, both parents had Alzheimer's, so I have one copy that before Gene. And so I'm you know more prone to get Alzheimer's myself, but with my lifestyle, it's not likely. But um I did notice, you know, it was getting um getting on in years, and um my my memory scores had started slipping. I wasn't the medical student uh memory score that I had when I was 18.

So I had this gene injected into the arm, it goes into the muscle cells and sets up a little factory. It doesn't mess with your own DNA, which I like. It just goes in there and your cells go, hello, what do you want? And the clotho gene says, Well, I'm clotho gene. I want you to make clotho protein. So you set up a little clotho factory, and we measured the levels before and after. So we measure everything we can. My composite memory score went from the 66th percentile to the 97th percentile, almost a perfect memory score. This is using CNSVS, which is an internationally renowned and accepted online cognitive. It's the best, right? And it was a funny experience because two weeks in after the injection, uh, I said to my wife, I don't think this is doing much. And she said, Oh, yeah, it is. So, oh really, have you noticed? She said, Yeah, I've noticed. I can't notice anything. And I sort of nah. And uh, but by six weeks, I was going, Oh my goodness, I I am back. My I can remember as an 18-year-old medical student, you know, with pathology textbooks this big, one in the morning, just having to consume all this stuff. I thought, it's it's just an extraordinary experience. I don't think I can go back. I I I'm gonna be lining up. So we think it lasts one to two years. The compet uh um the one that we use with the from a biologist is where he's working on version three, which he wants to it to work even longer. Um so now we uh we can be confident the cognitive scores are the kind of the tip of the iceberg. It's what we can measure. And with sophisticated tests, we can you know we can measure the biological age as well, and we will start to do that. Um but we can be confident if your cognitive scores have improved, the other anti-aging longevity pathways have been affected positively as well. And yeah, and and and the the stories coming back from my patients who have had it, um, interesting. You know, one one guy, one doctor had him, he had to leave medicine because he had such a bad head injury, and he called me the other day and he said, Dave, I'm going back to medicine. I've I've my improvements are that profound that I'm going to back to my practice. And we had quite a little, I actually had a little tear in my eye. It was just I've helped this guy for years, and we we had results, we had improved, but not to the point where he he felt he could handle a big diet practice, and now he does thanks to the clotho, the cream on the top of the cake.

Yeah. That's that is so exciting, uh, Dave. That's just hearing that is it gives people hope, I'm sure, and it gives uh you know new life, so to speak. So when you're talking about, you know, healing that inner lining of the arteries and and all of that, that's that's exactly what we're trying to do with the the increased nitric oxide that comes from all the fruits and vegetables that are in our product of Cardiomiracle. That's why we feel like the synergistic effect of of what you're doing is so so vitally important to what we're doing and trying to help people to take their life back and and take their health into their own hands. And so it's it's so exciting. We want to we want to hear as much as we possibly can, but really I'd love to hear from your from your mouth what gives you the most hope about the future of Alzheimer's and uh you know early onset of dementia.

Oh, I I think uh the future's really bright. And I would just say that the thing that's holding it up is the FDA process, right? The trial process. And I'm not the only one. There's millions of doctors, we're all talking about it. It's just too onerous. Um, and it means only very wealthy drug companies can get in and try, do, do stage three trials. We all agree, you know, double-blinded, stage three, large multi-site trials are the gold standard. There's no, but even they, even they, you know, have problems. But it's not that we don't want the most rigorous research. We all do. But it's just not pragmatic and it's not affordable. And if you're a biotech company, you can have a, you know, we work with some of these biotech companies, you can have these intranasal drip mu cells and simply not have the money to take it to stage three trial. So you you have a uh you have a therapy that is effective that doesn't become FDI approved. Um and hopefully they will, but and then it takes years and years for these trials to go through. And even then, when they go through, there was a publication that showed that most doctors take 15 years to fully adopt a new therapy. It sounds crazy, but doctors are stressed, busy, and just doing their best, trying to keep up to date. But we're we're skeptical and we uh which is not all bad, and we struggle to adopt new therapies in into practice. So, you know, that's kind of stacked. That's the downside. But the upside is we have these new regenerative therapies, we have the Bredison protocol um that guides us as to what to do. We have these advanced diagnostic tests, we can tell if people have leaky gut, how inflamed they are, how their mercury levels are. We have a lot of mercury poisoning as a cause of Alzheimer's. A lot of our clients have high levels of mercury. We can clean that up. The detox processes are much better now. So no one should, or or like I said before, Alzheimer's should be a rare condition moving forward.

We have um uh a service. We've set it up both for clinics and doctors and for patients because we're aware that clinics and doctors don't know much about these therapies. They don't know that we can help stroke people recover, that long COVIDs can be helped, that multiple sclerosis is being helped, or other cancers are being helped. We have natural killer exercises that we give for cancer patients. So they just don't know that. So this is a place, it's very new, but our website will have a major AI associated with it, so that people can just type in a complicated chronic disease case and they'll get uh a protocol based, and then we can confirm that with uh either Dr. Alex or myself. We can get online with the doctor and the patient together, and we can uh create a protocol and uh they can come to one of our clinics around the world that we're setting up wherever they live, uh whichever's closest, um, and they can get treated.

So exciting, Dr. Day. That's that sounds amazing. We love it. Thank you so much for taking the time. I I don't wanna I don't want to keep you from your bedtime routine. So we my humming. Your humming routine. No, tell uh actually if you can end with that, could you could you end with if people are if people are it's hard to wind down at the end of a day, tell us about the humming routine. Because I know just humming creates nitric oxide uh naturally. And so what so what do you do with the humming routine?

So there's a one of the things we look at, uh all my all my clients, I look closely at their heart rate variability. Okay so that tells us uh what kind of there's fight and flight autonomic nervous system and there's rest and digest parasympathetic nervous system. And of course, it's more complicated than that, but that's a good way to start. And the vagus nerve, which is the longest nerve from the back of the brain, it finds it winds down right near the vocal cords. So you've seen people, you know, it's around the carotid arteries too, right? See people with uh carotid arteries, these vagus nerve stimulators, they put them on. You can do the same thing, maybe even better. No one's done the study. When you start humming, low, what Buddhist monks have done for thousands of years, hello, yeah, yeah, uh, then that vibration will stimulate the vagus turn uh tone and will improve the beat-to-beat variation between the heartbeats, the heart rate variability. And what the studies have shown is as you go into sleep, if your heart rate variability is good, you're gonna have a better quality and quantity of sleep. Okay. My second tip for good sleep, and please people, you can't have any light. Light actually gets through a closed eye. You can't have it, has to be a black room. So we are light deficient during the day and we're dark deficient at night. This is so important. Now, if you wake up, like so many people, myself included, I wake up most nights, I'll get a good five, six hours, and then I will do a thing called yoga nidra on YouTube, on Spotify, Yoga Nidra. Uh again, thousands of years old, but research is now showing that it takes your thinking brain into a sensing brain. Or I will just do humming and heart breath four-four breathing, breathe in for four, hold for four, breathe out for four slowly, hold for four. That's called box breathing. They teach it to the army to stay calm and sit. Practice it. I always say to my clients, if you'd never played tennis before, you get a coach, the 30th lesson you have had, you're playing a reasonably good game of tennis.

This is a skill you've got to learn. So focus on your sleep, learn good skills, do your humming and your yoga nidra or your box breathing, and watch your sleep improve and watch your quality of life improve.

Yeah, look, strive to get into the 2%, have a good diet, focus on sleep. You know, bioheck, if you haven't got enough time, do high-intensity, you know, training. You can get so much done in a little amount of time. Um, find friends, surround yourself with good people who will make yourself uh the better, you'll strive to be the better self. And um don't take a diagnosis of chronic disease. Don't just take it sitting down, be proactive. Seek out a good functional medicine doctor or longevity doctor who get to the bottom of your disease to reverse it, to look at the underlying causes, and then on top of that, come to people like myself or Dr. Alex Grinberg and get some regenerative therapies. And if it's happening to your parents, you know, don't just take, don't put them in a rest home and let them rot and die there. Get proactive. There are therapies for most chronic diseases now.
