the things of God. 00:01:42.719 --> 00:02:03.519 And then last week we learned about emotional baggage, uh, whether it's disappointment or grief or offense, uh, whatever it may be, even loneliness, how us carrying that baggage around and not leaving it at the foot of the cross can be a distraction to what God has for us in our lives. 00:02:03.760 --> 00:02:05.680 But this week is a little bit Claude, uh, Gemini, co-pilot, and how that voice, oftentimes we have leaned in to hear that instead of leaning in to hear the voice of the Lord. 00:02:40.719 --> 00:02:57.759 Or we go on to social media looking for affirmation or advocacy or acceptance instead of sitting at the foot of the cross knowing that we've already been accepted by the one who loves us beyond our generation and beyond our shortcomings. 00:02:58.000 --> 00:03:02.159 Uh, we have subscribed to a counterfeit community. 00:03:08.479 --> 00:03:23.280 And we have run to our Instagram or our thread to hear encouragement when the word of God is full of encouragement, or your small group is full of encouragement. 00:03:23.439 --> 00:03:41.759 So we're reaching out to someone in India or someone in California or someone in South Brazil, and we're posting our hurts and our desires and even our all a report card, thinking that that community is enough. 00:03:41.840 --> 00:03:43.919 And can I tell you it's a social media, but we don't realize it because we're looking for that next hit and we're looking for that next follow, and we're looking for that next share, share, and we're hoping that that will be home? 00:04:38.959 --> 00:04:44.079 And uh the way he teaches it is that's because the other 60% didn't tell the truth. 00:04:45.759 --> 00:04:55.519 Or 40% of people would rather lose their voice for at who's wearing what and who said what and who's dating who the digital distraction is bombarding the lives of our young people, but dare I say that it is bombarding the lives of adults as well? you lay down at night, if you have to reach for your cell phone first, and when you have to make a huge speech and you have to confer with chat, sounds like slavery to me. 00:08:33.519 --> 00:08:36.080 Sounds like slavery to me or addiction. 00:08:36.559 --> 00:08:44.720 But here's the thing: it's not the social media, it's not the digital distraction, it's whether or not we regulate 00:09:11.039 And oftentimes, when we want to make it known, when we want to, and I'm old school, give you a piece of our mind. 00:09:11.200 --> 00:09:14.000 We'll go on social media for somebody to what God would require of us, and we say what we want to say, and we post what we want to post, and we attack people in this realm, or we are attacked by people in this realm. 00:09:48.159 --> 00:10:00.960 This morning, I want to expose four dangers of social media, four dangers of digital distractions, four dangers of been watching Netflix. 00:10:01.200 --> 00:10:04.480 Um, because you become what you behold. 00:10:04.799 --> 00:10:06.240 Let's start with that. 00:10:06.799 --> 00:10:23.679 And it is truly hard, first danger, it is truly hard to know God when we are constantly distracting or distracted by Facebook, Instagram, uh chat, Claude, Netflix. 00:10:23.759 --> 00:10:26.000 And that's not to say that these things are bad. 00:10:26.240 --> 00:10:34.960 The the rub, where the rubber meets the road, is when we can't put them to the side, when we can't just sit and be still. 00:10:35.120 --> 00:10:45.120 Scripture says in uh Psalms chapter 46, verse 10, it says, and I know you know this, be still and know that I am God. 00:10:46.080 --> 00:10:51.679 And we are bombarded by text messages and updates and notifications. 00:10:51.840 --> 00:10:59.759 So all of this noise is causing us to look there for an answer when God is the all in all. 00:10:59.919 --> 00:11:02.159 God is the great I want, great, great I am. 00:11:02.240 --> 00:11:06.320 God has the answer to whatever it is we're facing, but we have to be still. 00:11:06.559 --> 00:11:12.799 If we look at the Hebrew word for still, it there's certain things that it means, and I want to uh share hands, but the issue with lacking intimacy with God, it actually leads to our next danger. 00:12:36.720 --> 00:12:45.679 And that is a difficulty really understanding who you are. 00:12:46.639 --> 00:12:52.879 Because when you know whose you are, you can better ascertain who you are. 00:12:53.679 --> 00:13:07.519 So the second danger I want to talk about is it's hard to view yourself properly when you are listening to the voices that are attacking and invading your space through digital distraction. 00:13:07.679 --> 00:13:14.000 Now, you know there's nothing new under the sun, so I'm gonna take you back to the Old Testament because I love the Old Testament. 00:13:14.240 --> 00:13:17.200 And most of you know this story, so I'm not gonna have you turn there. 00:13:17.440 --> 00:13:41.759 But when you read the historical account of Saul and David's interactions, and I know you all remember this, and they came back from a battle, and the women cried out, Saul has killed his thousands and David his tens of thousands, and Saul grew angry, listening to external voices. 00:13:42.559 --> 00:13:53.840 How many of us at one time or another, and we'll just say in the last 30 days, have looked down at some type of thread or post and read the comments, and on the inside was like, What? 00:13:54.399 --> 00:13:55.840 How dare they? 00:13:56.000 --> 00:14:00.080 Who do they think that who cares who they think they are? 00:14:00.879 --> 00:14:09.600 We're listening to external voices, and for this generation, it is a digital distraction. 00:14:10.240 --> 00:14:20.559 We know that Saul grew so jealous that he eventually lost the kingdom listening to outside voices. 00:14:21.200 --> 00:14:37.360 Social media and what what happens in this digital sphere is so much about comparison that we begin to feel inadequate or insufficient or intimidated by what we see. 00:14:37.519 --> 00:14:41.519 As I was talking yesterday over what we were going to share today, I was light, with the best background, with the cutest outfit, with the right angle. 00:15:00.399 --> 00:15:05.840 But we see what is really going on in our life and we think it doesn't match up. 00:15:50.960 Minister Donna and I were talking the other day, and she shared with me that she saw something online where they compared Jesus to a worm on a tree, and the worm gave birth, and then the Lord and Savior and the atonement for my sin to a worm, but it catches and it goes viral. 00:16:08.399 --> 00:16:15.200 And now I'm looking for digital distraction when I have the word of God right grade. 00:17:53.039 --> 00:18:01.200 I can sit at home and my husband can turn on a video of service, and I can be in a different room and I can say, Oh, Hannah was leading worship that day. picking up in the historical account of Elijah. 00:19:36.160 --> 00:19:43.759 Now, uh, most of you know that Elijah was a great prophet who um who became intimidated and afraid. 00:19:44.000 --> 00:19:47.920 Now, he he went into a whose God is bigger battle. 00:19:48.720 --> 00:19:52.640 And uh he said that the God that is God will answer by fire. 00:19:52.720 --> 00:20:02.799 If you all remember this, and um the other the prophets of Baal were just, oh, come on, they danced and they prayed and they shouted and they cried, and God would not answer by fire. 00:20:02.880 --> 00:20:05.279 So Elijah took water and threw it on the altar. 00:20:05.440 --> 00:20:17.200 He he drenched it, and this is the middle of a drought, so he's taking something precious to prove that his God is the true living God, and he called on the name of the Lord, and fire licked up all that water. 00:20:17.440 --> 00:20:19.920 Now, here's the rest that people don't realize. 00:20:20.000 --> 00:20:28.960 Then he killed all those prophets, and then a woman, one woman said, You killed them, and I'm gonna kill you. 00:20:29.200 --> 00:20:32.640 And that man picked up his hind apart and ran. 00:20:33.920 --> 00:20:44.160 He listened to the voice of one woman after he had killed and manifest the presence of God, and he listened to the voice of that woman and he ran. 00:20:44.319 --> 00:20:48.480 And he ran and he ran and he ran to a cave, and that's where we're picking up. 00:20:48.640 --> 00:21:00.079 Uh, and this is the message uh paraphrase, and it says, Then he, Elijah, was ripped through the mountains and shattered the rocks before God, but God wasn't found in the wind. 00:21:14.559 --> 00:21:25.599 And then an earthquake came, but God wasn't found in the earthquake,
