New full episode coming soon. But in this super short one - Steve Folland explains why he's not publishing a new interview this week.

Too often we rush on from one thing to another.
But by doing so we don't do justice to the thing we just finished.

With the Being Freelance podcast, that can mean not promoting an episode with clips, socials and emails. That doesn't help the podcast, the guest OR the listener who could have benefited.

Same in our freelancing businesses. If we don't reflect, get testimonials, build case studies, share... we don't help do justice to the project we just finished. We don't do justice to ourselves, to our client... AND we don't help potential new clients know what we're capable of, so weirdly, we're not helping them either.

If you find yourself rushing; pause. Try and build in some buffer to big up your business.

Hey, how you doing? Welcome to another behind the scenes episode. That's what I like to call them. I'm frequently thinking they should be called ;the excuses episodes;. So they're the one where it's really short, but it's me saying why there's no new episode of the Being Freelance Podcast this week. And it's this this time. 'What excuse's he got this time?!' Basically, I've realised that I've been so busy either working or lifing or producing the podcast, etc., the past few weeks that actually I haven't spent enough time promoting the podcast. And that becomes a problem because when you put so much effort into recording with a guest, editing it, putting it out into the world, you then really owe it to yourself and to your guest to promote it. So if I don't tell enough people about Zoe's excellent episode or Lisa's amazing conversation, then um yeah, I feel like I've done myself bad, but more importantly, I've done them bad. And for that matter, let people who might listen to it down because they're not going to know about it. So I'm pausing while I take care of that and get that back out into the world before another interview comes out. So that's why. But then I thought, you know, this also applies to our business. Like how often do we just rush from the next thing to the next without pausing? Both for like ourselves as reflection to think, how did that go? How do I feel about it? Pat myself on the back. But also, am I taking a moment to reflect on it with the client? How did it go for them? Can I get a testimonial from them? Have I tidied everything up behind the scenes so that if we do something like this again in the future? I remember there was an episode with Tom Miles, the very first episode of Being Freelance, he's a photographer. He keeps a little diary for every single project he does so that he can look back on it, not just from a technical point of view as a photographer, he could see what lenses he used, what lighting setup he used and so on, but also how he feels about it. And then of course there's the element of have I made the most of maybe sharing this project that I've done? Is there an element of um social media or email or a case study for my website? All of these different things as well. We just rush from one thing to the next, boom, boom, boom, and suddenly it's December. So yeah. On a bigger scale, I feel like that's something that we can all be guilty of, and it's worth just reflecting on that. Is that something that you're doing at the moment? Just on to the next thing, onto the next thing, onto the next thing. So I haven't done justice for the last two episodes. You really should listen to Zoe. And to uh the excellent Lisa Emmington and her episode, which is a lot about change all the way from typewriters through to AI and also changing our lives as she hits 60 and looks towards retirement.
