Why Women Are Taking Over the Watch Industry: Charriol CEO Interview
I sat down for an inspiring conversation with Coralie Charriol, the CEO and Creative Director of the luxury Swiss watch and jewelry maison, Charriol.
Founded by her father in 1983 after he left Cartier, Charriol is globally renowned for its unmistakable Celtic-inspired twisted cable designs. Today, Coralie is leading the heritage brand into a bold new era with a distinct mission: empowering women to become independent watch buyers, understand luxury movements, and choose pieces that speak directly to their confidence and personal style.
In this interview, we explore Charriol's incredible 40-year legacy, dive into the iconic St-Tropez collection (a bestseller for four decades), and look at their stunning new Mariner watch line, which perfectly reimagines the timepiece as a high-fashion "jewelry bracelet that tells time." Coralie also breaks down a surprising statistic—that 43% of the watch industry is already driven by women—and discusses how the luxury horology market is shifting to welcome female collectors as a major purchasing force.

Hi everyone, I am very pleased to be with Coralie from Shariol. Thank you for so much for having us. Thank you. Something that was very important for us when we created Watch DNA was to create a platform that educates, entertain, and connect end consumers with brands and with the authorized retailers. There's some people, a lot of people that know about the brand, but there's also a lot of people that don't know about the brand. What will you tell them? If you're a woman and you want to buy yourself a watch and you're nervous or you feel intimidated, then I say don't be because Shariol is here for you, right? So I'm really gonna talk to women. I want to encourage them to be a self-purchaser. Yeah. So I want to educate them in the movements and not be um embarrassed to ask or to have to turn to their male counterparts. Should I get this watch? Should I buy this rent? I want women to feel confident. And now we realize that more and more women are very interested in the watches in timepiece. And a lot of women like to use watches, and obviously as a fashion statement and as a piece of jewelry. Exactly. So this is my latest watch, it's called the Mariner. I it came out in uh Watches and Wonders. Okay, which was a few months ago in Geneva, the big watch fair there. And it was really to be like a bracelet that tells time. Okay. And we're very strong in the bijou monte section, and our most significant and best-selling watch in the collection is the Saint-Tropez. It's worn as a bangle watch with the chain on the side. It was designed by my father in the late 80s, and it has been a best seller for 40 years. It's also the DNA comes back to this cable material that my uh father had first used. Okay. And that I use almost in all the jewelry that I wear today. And if I don't put a piece of cable in my jewelry or watch, nobody wants it. So it's like Chariol is really has a distinctive look, unique look. That is also one of the things that keeps you going and alive. An interesting fact is that in there's 43% of women already in the watch industry. Which is crazy, right? I mean, so it's only in the C-suite that there's not a lot of women. Yeah. So in the rest, meaning marketing, sales, communication, even in the factories for QC and assembly, and even Pave, um, there are women. They're there they're there. I think the industry is finally opening up to looking at women because they're also 50% of the purchasing power, right? It's great that you're saying that because, for example, for International Women's Day, that was few months ago, we had actually a panel of powerful women in the industry. Oh, you did? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And maybe next year you can be there, you know? Because that's the idea, is that is yes, it's great to do things, and but the idea for me is I have young children as well. And it's to, you know, to give it can I don't know, help the new generation, help them, motivate them. No, there's there's some great women um that love watches, they're creating communities around the uh America and the world. Um, and that's that's great for us. So I'm very happy. It was a pleasure. Pleasure to meet you as well. Enchanted. Enchanted à bientôt. And you guys, if you want to learn more about the brand, you go on the website, watchdn.com slash chariol. Yes, all the brands are listed on our site. Uh-uh. And you can learn about it. And the cool thing is that if you find one that you love, you can go on the store locator and it will tell you where to buy it.
