What happens when a woman leads with heart, refuses to trade integrity for proximity, and still chooses to show up fully?

That is the conversation we are starting here.

She Strategic is for the leader who feels deeply but still moves with discipline.
For the woman in the room who sees more than she says.
For the executive who understands that character matters, even when character is not trending.
For the emerging leader trying to figure out how to become powerful without becoming performative.

This first episode is an introduction, but it is also an invitation.

An invitation to lead honestly.
 To think critically.
 To sharpen your strategy.
 To protect your peace.
And to understand that the way you lead does not have to look like everyone else’s version of power.

Speaker

Have you ever looked around a room and wondered how the people making the most noise become the people making the decisions? Have you ever questioned whether integrity, hard work, and competence still matter when performance is often rewarded more than substance? Maybe you have found yourself navigating spaces where the rules seem unridden, the expectations keep shifting, and the cost of getting it wrong feels much higher for some than it does for others. If so, you are not alone. Welcome to She Strategic. I'm Dr. Tameka Owens, and before we talk about leadership, strategy, resilience, power, or any of the other things we will explore together, I think it's important that you know what you can expect from She Strategic as a brand, a podcast, and a leadership ecosystem. This is not a motivational podcast. It is not theory, and it is not commentary from the sidelines. This ecosystem was born from real experiences, some beautiful, some painful, some confusing, and many I never expected to face. She Strategic is a space where we talk honestly about leadership, power, resilience, disappointment, courage, integrity, and growth, especially as Black women navigating executive spaces and organizations that were not necessarily built with us in mind. The stories are real. The lessons are real. And the scars that produced many of those lessons, those are very real too. But before we go any further, I want you to understand something else. The names will never matter here. Not because harm did not happen. Not because accountability is unimportant, but because leadership growth is not about obsessing over who did what. It is about understanding what happened, why it mattered, what it taught us, and how we move forward stronger, wiser, and more prepared than before. That, that's the work. And that is what this space is about. Leadership, particularly for Black women, is rarely neutral. It is often navigated under scrutiny. It is exercised under pressure. And many times it is sustained without the protection, sponsorship, or grace routinely extended to others. This podcast is my response to that reality. Not from bitterness, not from ego, but from experience. Before we unpack power, leadership dynamics, resilience, strategy, and all the hard truths that come with leading in complicated spaces, you deserve to know who is speaking to you. Not just my resume, not my job title, not the version of me people feel most comfortable consuming, but me. So let me be honest. I know I am not supposed to be here. I was not groomed for leadership. I was not loud. I definitely was not performative. I was not chasing proximity to power. I was the quiet girl, the one who followed the rules, put her head down, and simply did the work. Not for credit, not for applause, but because I believe contribution mattered more than recognition. I am a first-generation college graduate. My family supported me in the best way they knew how, through sacrifice, encouragement, and belief. There was no blueprint. Definitely no inherited access. No roadmap to leadership. Just grit, faith, and consistency. I am a girl from Nashville. I do not like conflict. I never have. I value peace, clarity, and progress. But if I believe in something, like truly believe in it, I will not back down. And I say that knowing there is a small circle of people who will stand beside me without hesitation or question. That duality shaped me early. Quiet does not mean weep. Calm does not mean compliant. And restraint definitely does not mean surrender. I am fiercely protective of the people I love. I do not shapeshift to be accepted. I am not flexible with my morals, and I will not sacrifice my integrity for gain. So how did I rise to where I am? Favor. I say that plainly, without apology, without false humility. I have absolutely experienced favor in my life. But favor, it didn't write the papers. Favor did not sit through disappointment, rejection, and setbacks. What did favor do? It opened doors. But it was my faith, discipline, grit, consistency, and preparation that carried me through those doors. And over time, those same qualities made even the people who would have preferred to sideline me stop and acknowledge what I could do. Not because I demanded space, but because the work made denial impossible. But that kind of rise, it comes with consequences. Competence, yeah, it disrupts hierarchy. And a woman who does not beg for access, she just destabilizes systems built on control. That tension, that reality is where she strategic was born. Over time, I hope this becomes more than a podcast. I hope she strategic becomes a place where leaders can learn, reflect, challenge themselves, and grow together. A place where we can have honest conversations about leadership without pretending we have all the answers. A place where people can bring both their ambition and their humanity. Right now, that vision rests on three parts. First, the podcast, where real leadership lessons are grounded in lived experience, stories, strategy, reflection, truth. These are the kind of conversations that make you think differently long after the episode ends. Second, leadership lights. These are short reflections and observations that challenge assumptions, reinforce lessons, and hopefully stay with you. Because growth does not only happen when you are listening to a full episode. Sometimes there's one sentence, one question, one moment of clarity that can help shift how you see yourself and how you lead. And then there's what I'm calling the leadership lab experience. This is intended to be a space for conversation, application, and community. Roundtables, guest conversations, voice notes, shared experiences, because leadership was never meant to be a solo journey. Let me be transparent about something. I do not have it all figured out. I am terrified of being in front of the camera, especially by myself. I am an extreme introvert. And given the choice, I would almost always prefer to work quietly behind the scenes. But I also believe there are women who need to see someone who looks like them leading authentically. Too many women believe they have to become someone else to lead, louder, more polished, more performative, more palatable. My journey, it's taught me just the opposite. Leadership is not about becoming someone else. It is about becoming more fully yourself. So I am willing to be uncomfortable. I'm willing to share the painful stories that have galvanized my growth, helped center me in the middle of trauma, and reveal the ways I have sometimes undermined myself out of fear. I am willing to be visible in due time. I need just a little bit more time to warm up to that part. So be patient with me on this journey. Starting out, these episodes will be audio only. I recognize that while I may need more time to get on camera, this space cannot wait. The audience that needs this space cannot wait. My hope is that over time I will become more comfortable pulling back the curtain even when my voice shakes and the pain is still visible as I tell the story. I am willing to share the victories, the mistakes, the lessons, and the scars if it makes the path a little less intimidating, a little less confusing, and a little more attainable for the women coming behind me. Because this work is personal. Leadership has tested me in ways no title ever prepared me for. It has required restraint when provocation was intentional, clarity when chaos was manufactured, and discipline when emotional reactions would have cost me credibility. I have learned that some environments do not want vision. They want control. Some people do not want progress. They want performance. And some systems survive by exhausting the very people who hold them together. She Strategic exists to name that reality clearly, professionally, and without apology. This is not a passive platform. You're invited to listen, to reflect, to engage with the leadership lights, to submit voice notes, questions, and stories, to share your experiences, to express interest in joining the Leadership Lab experience. This is intended to be a shared space, a place for growth, a place for clarity, a place for courage, a place for leaders who are still becoming. If any part of this resonated, this space was built with you in mind. You do not need permission to lead with integrity. You do not need to shrink to survive. And you do not need to explain your presence in rooms you have earned a place in. It is about preparation. It is about purpose. And it is about staying rooted where you are, especially when the room tries to move you. Stay strategic, stay grounded, and stay. Thank you for taking this journey with me. Thank you for being willing to reflect, to grow, and sometimes sit with hard truths. And thank you for helping build the kind of leadership community many of us have spent years searching for. One where you do not have to pretend, one where you can learn, one where you can lead, and one where we can become what we were called to be.
