00:00:50.560 Here's the principle that we see playing out in this story, chapters eight through ten. 00:00:51.119 --> 00:01:01.920 God graciously gives Israel the king they demand, even as he is patiently preparing the King Jesus they truly need. 00:01:03.200 --> 00:01:09.200 In 1 Samuel 8, Samuel is growing old, he's older, the people demand the king. 00:01:09.359 --> 00:01:20.079 He feels a little rejected by this, he's grieved by this, but God affirms Samuel, hey, this is not about them rejecting you, they're rejecting me, God, and it's about the people's hearts. 00:01:20.239 --> 00:01:25.840 So Samuel goes to the people, he warns the people, hey, if you're gonna have a king, you need to know what having a king means. 00:01:25.920 --> 00:01:30.640 And it means that a king will force labor, he's gonna force military, he's gonna take taxes. 00:01:30.879 --> 00:01:33.519 You want a king, you're gonna pay a lot of taxes. 00:01:33.760 --> 00:01:34.959 But the people insist.
