Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him. 00:00:28.559 --> 00:00:34.079 And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. 00:00:34.719 --> 00:00:46.560 So if you remember here in this Acts 7 story that we talked about two weeks ago, this was right when Stephen, this follower of Jesus, he's given this amazing sermon about Jesus being the way, the rescue. 00:00:47.359 --> 00:00:54.960 Not religious law or religious rules, but actually the fulfillment of the law and the Messiah. 00:00:55.039 --> 00:00:59.840 So the holders of all these rules, these religious authorities, this enraged them. 00:01:00.399 --> 00:01:02.880 And so they go to stone this guy, Stephen. 00:01:03.039 --> 00:01:16.000 Now, according to second century Jewish writing, the stoning came after a guilty trial, about 15 feet from the place of the stoning, they would demand the guy to say that he was guilty, to confess. 00:01:16.159 --> 00:01:20.480 And then about six feet from the stoning, they would strip the guy of all his clothes. 00:01:20.560 --> 00:01:22.400 And then they would get up to the edge of a cliff. 00:01:22.480 --> 00:01:25.519 Usually the cliff was the people, they lay their garments at this religious leader who's there, this guy named Saul. 00:01:58.400 --> 00:02:03.439 So in Acts 9, Saul's on his way, the same guy, on his way to Damascus to arrest some Christians. 00:02:03.519 --> 00:02:10.719 He's going to round them up, he's going to bound them, rip them from their families, rip them from their homes, haul them back to Jerusalem, and put them in prison. 00:02:12.240 --> 00:02:17.199 But on his way to Damascus, suddenly he sees a bright light, a bright light shone above him. 00:02:17.360 --> 00:02:20.479 So Acts 9, 4 through 9, let
