beginning that we should love one another. 00:03:32.800 --> 00:03:39.199 Now, if we remember verse one of this chapter, chapter three, we've been talking about, we're sort of like seeing this thread through 1 John. 00:03:39.439 --> 00:03:44.960 And 1 John 3, 1 says, look what lavish love the Father gives to us. 00:03:45.199 --> 00:03:48.879 Okay, so if we think about that, look what lavish love God has for us. 00:03:49.039 --> 00:03:55.599 And then John says a little bit later on, 11 verses later, hey, by the way, from the beginning, you remember this, that we should love one another. 00:03:55.759 --> 00:03:57.199 So we get this, our first point. 00:03:57.439 --> 00:04:05.120 Our first point is this love received from God empowers love given to others. 00:04:05.520 --> 00:04:08.159 That's how we love, that's how we're able to love. 00:04:08.400 --> 00:04:12.400 It's how we're able to love without judgment or self-righteousness. 00:04:12.800 --> 00:04:14.560 Verse 12 says this. 00:04:14.800 --> 00:04:17.759 This is John using a negative example, what not to be. 00:04:17.920 --> 00:04:22.800 He says, we should not be like Cain, good advice, who was the evil one and murdered his brother. 00:04:23.040 --> 00:04:24.319 And why did he murder him? 00:04:24.480 --> 00:04:27.839 Because his own deeds are evil and his brother's righteous. 00:04:28.480 --> 00:04:36.079 So Cain, if you remember the story in Genesis 4, Adam and Eve's boys, Cain, in jealous hatred, he kills his brother. 00:04:36.319 --> 00:04:38.160 And John says, Don't be like that. 00:04:38.480 --> 00:04:40.160 Maybe you want to write that down. 00:04:40.480 --> 00:04:41.759 Good advice. 00:04:42.639 --> 00:04:54.079 And the point here is see, if you know you're loved, then the righteous deeds our brother or sister and what they have going on and what they got and what they received and who they are and who's applauding them, and all of that, we just say, hey, that how good for you. 00:05:33.199 --> 00:05:48.399 And see, this is how the imperative of the love, you should love one another, the imperative to love, the call to love, the mission to love, whatever language you want for it, the imperative to love is being empowered by the indicative that we are already loved. 00:05:48.560 --> 00:05:52.000 So you are indicated to you, you are loved by God. 00:05:52.160 --> start to hear his conviction against what's going on in the false teaching of a group of people who have left their church in this community and is causing chaos. 00:07:03.120 --> 00:07:08.160 And John is a person of conviction, and he is fired up on this, and he will talk about it. 00:07:08.240 --> 00:07:12.879 And at the same time, he is a person that is saying, hey, you you should love. real people, not stereotypes of people, but real people who are not perfect and hold very different opinions and beliefs than us, and maybe have chosen different life choices and life paths. he writes, by this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him, because we're gonna need it after everything we just read. 00:13:00.799 --> 00:13:07.039 For whenever our
