speech to Kenyon College, and it became a renowned speech. 00:05:07.040 --> 00:05:10.319 And there's this little section of the speech I wanted to read. 00:05:10.720 --> 00:05:12.480 Here's what he says. 00:05:13.199 --> 00:05:18.800 In the day-to-day trenches of adult life, there's actually no such thing as atheism. 00:05:19.360 --> 00:05:21.759 There's no such thing as not worshiping. had this worship, some of them had this worship of fertility gods, apparently, is what this passage is telling us. 00:06:26.800 --> 00:06:29.839 And then they go from that to the grace of Christ. very easy to go from irreligion to religion, but never really convert and walk by the grace of Christ. 00:07:13.680 --> 00:07:24.720 And that's the difference between irreligion, merit-based performance life, religion, merit-based performance life, or the gospel, which is quite different. 00:07:25.360 --> 00:07:32.639 And the principle of the world, Paul's talking to this principle of the 00:08:21.920 He thought this could happen. 00:08:22.079 --> 00:08:23.360 Sarah wasn't quite sure. 00:08:23.519 --> 00:08:24.480 She didn't really believe this. 00:08:24.560 --> 00:08:32.799 And so Sarah comes to Abraham and says, Hey, I don't think this is gonna happen, so I think you should with Hagar. 00:08:33.360 --> 00:08:37.440 And so out of that came a little boy named Ishmael. 00:08:38.240 --> 00:08:45.440 Now, what's fascinating and amazing about this is in Genesis 21, it says, the Lord was gracious to Sarah. 00:08:46.879 --> 00:08:50.799 And she got pregnant and she has a little boy, and we get Isaac. 00:08:51.039 --> 00:09:00.000 So still, after all this stuff with Sarah and what she does, still after all that manipulation and control, after all of that, the Lord's still gracious to her, and they get Isaac. 00:09:00.159 --> 00:09:05.519 And then when Ishmael's a teenager, Isaac's a boy, Ishmael mocks Isaac. 00:09:06.000 --> 00:09:10.080 And Mama Bear kicks in with Sarah. 00:09:10.960 --> 00:09:21.440 And Sarah starts to think to herself, you know, man, I think Hagar and Ishmael could pose a threat to the family, could pose a threat to the inheritance coming to my son, Isaac. 00:09:21.519 --> 00:09:25.840 And so she goes back around to Abraham again and says, Hey, uh, you gotta get rid of them. 00:09:25.919 --> 00:09:28.080 Get rid of Hagar and then the second is more textual to the text here in Galatians, is Paul says, Hagar corresponds with Mount Sinai, where we get the law, also with what's going on in Jerusalem, which a whole bunch of people living by merit to try to impress or please or appease and be righteous before God. 00:09:57.919 --> 00:10:04.320 And Paul says, all right, that's Hagar, Mount Sinai, Jerusalem, and that's slavery. 00:10:05.279 --> 00:10:09.919 This is Paul's jab to these people to say, you are not those people. 00:10:10.320 --> 00:10:12.000 You're not a people of law. 00:10:12.080 --> 00:10:16.879
