that sort of surface in Genesis chapter 1. 00:00:20.960 --> 00:00:28.559 So the past eight days have given those of us who follow the national news a good bit to be concerned about. 00:00:28.879 --> 00:00:41.520 And I found myself every night as I watched the news being incredibly judgmental towards someone. 00:00:42.000 --> 00:00:44.560 And I could pick a different person every night of the week. 00:00:44.799 --> 00:00:48.640 Someone or some group of people about something. 00:00:49.759 --> 00:00:54.399 And the name or the person of the group, I could find a way to be judgmental toward them. 00:00:54.560 --> 00:00:59.920 And after I sort of throughout the week, weeded my way through all my judgmentalism, and trust me, there's a lot. 00:01:00.000 --> 00:01:00.560 I'm a preacher. 00:01:00.960 --> 00:01:02.240 I can have opinions. 00:01:03.039 --> 00:01:19.599 There was sadness, just sorrow for the loss of life eight days ago, for violence, for hatred, for racism, for racial bias, for the lack of moral declaration, for the lack of moral leadership. 00:01:20.000 --> 00:01:25.120 And it was interesting that so much of this came after our text last week. 00:01:25.359 --> 00:01:29.280 Because that's immediately where my mind went to is Genesis 1.27. 00:01:29.359 --> 00:01:32.799 So God created man in his own image. 00:01:33.040 --> 00:01:36.239 In the image of God, he created him, male and female, he created them. 00:01:36.480 --> 00:01:38.159 God blessed them. 00:01:38.719 --> 00:01:42.719 So this means he did not just create white people in the image of God. 00:01:42.879 --> 00:01:48.560 And he did not just create black people in the image of God, or Middle Eastern people in the image of God, or any other people group. 00:01:48.879 --> 00:01:54.480 He created all of us in all of our differences in his image. 00:01:54.640 --> 00:01:57.439 And all of us equal and all of us lovely. 00:01:58.159 --> 00:02:03.359 And so much of this Imago Day, that's biblical history, throughout the Old Testament, one people group hating another people group, and then that people group hating another people group, all of it has gone sideways so much, still sideways, so often. 00:02:20.000 --> 00:02:32.080 And then we see Jesus in the New Testament showing up and showing us the way back to the truth of Imago Day as he just loves people of all races, genders, socioeconomic. 00:02:34.319 --> 00:02:50.960 And then Paul expounds on this doctrine in Galatians 3, 28, where he says, there's neither Jew nor Greek, there's neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 00:02:51.199 --> 00:02:54.479 So all of this means in the gospel of Jesus, this is what this means. 00:02:54.639 --> 00:03:02.240 Hatred and being created in Genesis to two words that are in the New Testament about time, which give us great insight about time. 00:09:35.440 --> 00:09:36.879 And the first word is Kronos. 00:09:36.960 --> 00:09:43.120 This is this word throughout the New Testament, and it's pretty much any time that we we see this word in the New Testament. 00:09:43.200 --> 00:09:45.200 It's just the passage of time. 00:09:45.519 --> 00:09:48.720 It's just time passing, one moment after another. 00:09:48.879 --> 00:09:52.080 It's the way most of us think about time most of the time. 00:09:52.240 --> 00:09:53.840 way you would use Kronos. 00:10:04.080 --> 00:10:06.159 Okay, well, I totally agree with you. 00:10:06.240 --> 00:10:07.360 So, second word. 00:10:07.759 --> 00:10:08.480 Kairos. 00:10:08.799 --> 00:10:11.519 Kairos is time as meaning. 00:10:11.919 --> 00:10:14.320 So some have called it deep time. 00:10:14.960 --> 00:10:20.240 It's not just time passing, it's not the clicking of the clock, it's what time brings. 00:10:20.559 --> 00:10:31.600 It's the moment, it's that moment when your existence and your relationships or your job or your friendships, your family means something. 00:10:31.840 --> 00:10:32.240 Right? 00:10:32.399 --> 00:10:38.000 It's not just living in a moment that's passing, but it means something. 00:10:38.639 --> 00:10:47.039 So we live and we operate most of our days wrapped up in chronos, but we want an existence of Kairos. 00:10:47.519 --> 00:10:50.879 Now, this word Kairos is used in Ephesians 5, 15, and 16. 00:10:50.960 --> 00:10:53.840 This is as much our text this morning than the Genesis passage. 00:10:54.080 --> 00:11:02.080 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, making the best use of the time. 00:11:03.279 --> 00:11:05.039 Because the days are evil. 00:11:05.440 --> 00:11:07.840 Okay, so making the best use of Kairos. 00:11:08.320 --> 00:11:10.320 So Paul's saying, I want you to have Kairos. 00:11:10.399 --> 00:11:13.759 I want you to have time as meaning, not just time passing by. 00:11:13.919 --> 00:11:16.559 I want you to have time as meaning. 00:11:16.799 --> 00:11:18.240 And you go, well, that's a lot of pressure. 00:11:18.399 --> 00:11:23.759 Well, in the context of this Ephesians 5, Paul has just showered you already in those first few chapters. 00:11:24.000 --> 00:11:30.960 You are saved by grace, not by you being the most time efficient, and you can manage your time, and every moment means everything. 00:11:31.120 --> 00:11:39.519 At this point in Ephesians, when you get Ephesians 5, you are so secure in the grace of God that it is not by your work and your production and your meaning. 00:11:39.679 --> 00:11:44.559 You are like, I am a child of God based by the saved by grace, by 00:12:02.000 --> 00:12:05.200 Number one, if we think back to Genesis, God's eternal. 00:12:05.440 --> 00:12:10.960 The fact that God created time and he was outside of it, God is eternal. 00:12:11.120 --> 00:12:19.279 Not meaning he exists and lives forever, because that would be a language and a framework of time, if you're tracking with me just for a moment here. 00:12:20.000 --> 00:12:23.840 It actually means that God exists outside of time, where time does not exist. 00:12:23.919 --> 00:12:28.159 And that's about all we can say about it, because I think anything more than that we're just not going to understand. 00:12:28.480 --> 00:12:43.440 But God exists outside of time, which does mean a lot for us, even if we can't get our minds around it all the time, because it means there's a type of existence for us that's outside of the burden of Kronos. 00:12:45.440 --> 00:12:48.480 It means there's some sort of deeper meaning to life. 00:12:50.080 --> 00:12:54.879 Point number two God created and we live in both Kronos and Kairos. 00:12:55.440 --> 00:12:58.639 So our our hope, our hope, we know this feeling, but our hope is. 00:12:58.799 --> 00:13:03.200 Our hope is to live not defined and bound by the clock. 00:13:04.080 --> 00:13:08.799 But to be connected to Kairos, to have some meaning for all of these moments that are passing by. 00:13:08.960 --> I had I remembered years ago, and he's a smart, successful, like hard savings guy. 00:13:56.159 --> 00:14:01.440 And so years ago, I remember he had said he wanted to retire between the ages of 45 and 50. 00:14:01.759 --> 00:14:07.440 And well, now he's 39, he's gonna be 40 in November, and I was wondering like, like, when does he want to retire? 00:14:07.519 --> 00:14:09.759 Like, he's thinking 00:14:29.919 He said, I did, I used to want to retire between the ages of 45 to 50, but then his brother died while his brother had little kids, and then one of his good friends died earlier this Elohim, and we see the Spirit, and then we see the Christ, and they were all here from the very beginning. 00:17:16.640 --> 00:17:36.240 And then we saw in John how John's writing in his gospel in the New Testament about the Christ, and the word was in the beginning, and now the Christ is coming, the incarnation of God's love for us, and the Christ comes to live his life, to be the sacrifice for us feeling like we've wasted time. 00:17:58.480 --> 00:18:03.359 Maybe you feel like you beat yourself up, like I'm not radical enough, I'm not devoted enough. 00:18:03.680 --> 00:18:05.759 I've got to use my time better. 00:18:06.160 --> 00:18:11.920 And the secret is not to be radical enough or to think you're gonna get yourself devoted enough. 00:18:12.000 --> 00:18:14.160 That's a carrot you
