00:02:32.960 --> 00:02:35.439 He said, Man, and this is me all day long. 00:02:35.520 --> 00:02:38.960 I'll be honest, I don't go to the bathroom that I don't pull my cell phone in. 00:02:39.120 --> 00:02:41.599 I'm reading emails or checking text messages. 00:02:41.680 --> 00:02:45.199 And so this whole idea of impatience was very good for me last week. 00:02:45.280 --> 00:02:49.759 I got to hear Russ's sermon on our podcast this week. 00:02:50.560 --> 00:03:01.520 But I'm going to talk from the same passage, but look at a little different angle and think about what's happening between Moses and God and what's really going on with Moses in the story. 00:03:01.759 --> 00:03:07.280 But to go there, I want to go back to the beginning of Moses and understand and remember his life. 00:03:07.520 --> 00:03:11.919 If you remember Moses, he was born in Egypt. 00:03:12.000 --> 00:03:18.639 And he was born at a time when the king of Egypt was frustrated because the Israelites were growing and they were prospering. 00:03:18.800 --> 00:03:24.800 And so the Israelites were these Hebrews who come to Egypt when they had a famine and they were saved in Egypt. 00:03:26.159 --> 00:03:31.520 And they did well and they prospered and they helped, I think, Egypt be stronger. 00:03:31.680 --> 00:03:40.800 And the king of Egypt got pretty frustrated by that, and he said, Let's kill all these baby boys of the Hebrews and slow down their progression. 00:03:40.960 --> 00:03:46.319 And so he made this edict to kill all these baby boys right at the time that Moses was born. 00:03:46.560 --> 00:03:47.520 And you know the story. 00:03:47.680 --> 00:03:54.879 Moses is born, his mom puts him in the basket, he floats down the river, and he's found by the daughter of the king. 00:03:55.680 --> 00:03:58.400 And she says, Let's save him. 00:04:00.319 --> 00:04:04.719 And she gets her servant to find a nurse to nurse him, and the nurse is Moses' mom. 00:04:04.800 --> 00:04:06.080 You remember that story, right? 00:04:06.319 --> 00:04:14.000 And it's almost interesting to me that when we start with just Moses' beginning of his life, you see there's something special for him. 00:04:14.159 --> 00:04:16.560 That you think this guy's got to be somebody special. 00:04:16.720 --> 00:04:22.399 That this is a weird, crazy story, and that he's nursed by his mom at a time when he should be dead. 00:04:22.720 --> 00:04:26.800 Well, Moses goes on and he grows up in the house of the king of Egypt. 00:04:26.959 --> 00:04:31.279 He grows up in Pharaoh's house 40 years later. 00:04:32.720 --> 00:04:40.800 He's out in the fields with the workers, and he sees an Egyptian soldier being harsh on the Hebrews. 00:04:41.279 --> 00:04:42.800 And what does he do? 00:04:43.199 --> 00:04:47.920 I think I'm thinking, I'm putting words in his mind, but I'm thinking he's like me. 00:04:48.160 --> 00:04:53.040 I see an issue, I see an injustice, I see a problem, and I want to jump on that problem. 00:04:53.199 --> 00:04:57.519 And so Moses kills this Egyptian soldier. 00:04:57.759 --> 00:05:01.519 I think he realized that was not very smart, so he buries him. 00:05:01.759 --> 00:05:08.639 But I think in his mind he's thinking, this is the way for salvation and relief for the Hebrews. 00:05:08.800 --> 00:05:10.319 That maybe God has put me here. 00:05:10.399 --> 00:05:11.199 Maybe I'm special. 00:05:11.360 --> 00:05:16.240 Maybe I was saved for a time like this when God can use me to bring salvation. 00:05:16.480 --> 00:05:23.519 Unfortunately, when he tries to take control in his own hands, the Israelites say, I don't want it, I don't want you. 00:05:23.600 --> 00:05:24.079 Who are you? 00:05:24.160 --> 00:05:26.079 If I do something wrong, you'll kill me. 00:05:26.319 --> 00:05:32.560 And the king of Egypt says, That guy Moses, I'm going to find him and I'm going to kill him. 00:05:32.879 --> 00:05:42.000 So here, Moses, he's 40 years old, right in the prime of his life, tries to bring salvation and relief, and he's booted out. 00:05:42.160 --> 00:05:42.800 He's kicked out. 00:05:42.879 --> 00:05:45.199 The Israelites don't want him, the Egyptians don't want him, so he flees. 00:05:45.279 --> 00:05:46.079 He goes to Midian. 00:05:46.319 --> 00:05:51.439 He lives in Midian for 40 years, and that's about the time that the burning bush happens. 00:05:51.519 --> 00:06:04.399 When God comes through the burning bush and says, All right, Moses, it's time for you to go back to Egypt, and it's time for me, not Moses, but for God to bring salvation and relief for the Israelites. 00:06:04.879 --> 00:06:11.199 And so Moses, this time I think, in a much more humble spot, he even says, Why me? 00:06:11.360 --> 00:06:11.759 Who am I? 00:06:11.839 --> 00:06:13.439 I can't even speak well. 00:06:16.319 --> 00:06:17.439 But I'll go. 00:06:17.680 --> 00:06:28.959 And he goes back to Egypt and he goes back to the Pharaoh, and God, through all those crazy plagues and the frogs, and the locusts and all that stuff, Pharaoh finally says, All right, let's let these guys go. 00:06:29.199 --> 00:06:36.240 And so, so God through Moses brings relief and salvation for the Israelites, and they leave. 00:06:36.720 --> 00:06:40.160 And they go and God protects them. 00:06:40.319 --> 00:06:44.079 You remember the Egyptians, they follow, they said, Ah, we changed our mind, we're going to come after you. 00:06:44.240 --> 00:06:47.279 And the Red Sea parted, and the Red Sea fell back together. 00:06:47.600 --> 00:06:54.480 God provides for them food and water and a way to live, and they and God provides them direction. 00:06:54.879 --> 00:07:01.920 And they get to this mountain, and this is where Exodus 32 really kind of goes back about 15 chapters. 00:07:03.839 --> 00:07:09.040 And Moses goes up on the mountain and he gets these Ten Commandments. 00:07:09.120 --> 00:07:11.519 It's Exodus 20, it gets the Ten Commandments. 00:07:11.759 --> 00:07:17.439 And then he's given a few other rules, and he comes back down, and he does what every good leader would do. 00:07:17.600 --> 00:07:18.639 And you've got to think about this. 00:07:18.879 --> 00:07:24.079 Moses had 600,000 men with him. 00:07:24.319 --> 00:07:29.199 So this the Israelites were 600,000 men plus women and children. 00:07:29.439 --> 00:07:34.000 And so I would assume that there are at least as many women and children as in my family. 00:07:34.160 --> 00:07:37.199 And so there's one man, there's six people in my family. 00:07:37.279 --> 00:07:40.160 So there's probably three million people with Moses. 00:07:40.560 --> 00:07:44.000 Maybe there's not three million, but we have a lot of kids in my family. 00:07:44.240 --> 00:07:46.560 But three million people are with Moses. 00:07:47.120 --> 00:07:53.279 And he comes back down, and I'm thinking about the responsibility that's on Moses at this point in his life. 00:07:55.040 --> 00:07:57.040 But he's a good leader. 00:07:57.519 --> 00:07:59.199 He leads well, right? 00:10:23.200 --> 00:10:31.279 And she said, you know, I think for me probably it's the physical demand, the physical needs that they have of us. 00:10:32.080 --> 00:10:34.639 And she looked back to me and she said, Hey, Brad, what about for you?
