Built on Better Decisions
The Built on Better Decisions Podcast explores how the most important decisions in the built environment are made—from early strategy through leasing, operations, and longterm asset performance.
Hosted by Andrew Taylor, President of Taylor & Mathis, the podcast features candid conversations with institutional owners, developers, brokers, and partners who are shaping outcomes across the asset lifecycle.
Each episode unpacks how decisions around risk, capital, positioning, leasing, and operations ultimately determine whether a project performs or underperforms.
Because in this business, outcomes aren’t driven by execution alone.
They’re built—over time—on better decisions.

Welcome to the Built on Better Decisions Podcast. I'm Andrew Taylor, president of Taylor Mathness. In the real estate development business, outcomes are shaped long before a project is complete and often long before it even begins. The decisions made along the way around project planning, market positioning, capital deployment, leasing, and property management ultimately determine whether a project performs or falls short. This podcast is a place for honest conversations with the people behind those decisions. Owners, developers, brokers, and partners who are navigating complexity, managing risk, and working to get it right. Because at the end of the day, success in the development business isn't just about execution. It's built over time on better decisions. Welcome to Built on Better Decisions. I'm Andrew Taylor, partner and president of Taylor Mathis. Our firm was founded in 1967. We've developed over 25 million square feet of office and industrial projects and carried properties through good markets and difficult ones. That kind of experience changes how you think about risk. You learn that performance is shaped long before a building is delivered. And if you too have been around development long enough, you know the real work happens early. It happens when you're evaluating a site, assessing market conditions, designing a project, deciding how aggressive to be on timing and thinking through project financing and capital structure. Many deals look fine at the beginning. The location looks good. The project design comes together. The underwriting works. The schedule feels achievable. What separates steady performance from disappointment is how carefully all these early decisions are evaluated. That's what this podcast is about. It's for owners, asset managers, brokers, corporate real estate professionals, and development leaders accountable for results. We'll talk about how experienced developers evaluate market conditions, plan and design projects, structure deals, and decide when to move forward and when to hit pause. We'll talk about how operators manage property to drive both current return and long-term value. In this business, you rarely get a chance to reset a major decision. The difference between steady performance and disappointment usually comes down to how carefully these decisions were made. That's what Built on Better Decisions explores. Thanks for joining me on the Built on Better Decisions podcast. These conversations are meant to give you a clearer view into how decisions are made across the commercial real estate lifecycle and how those decisions ultimately shape property performance. If you found it valuable, I hope you'll share it with a colleague or come back for future episodes. Because at the end of the day, success in real estate development isn't about any one moment. It's built over time on better decisions. I'm Andrew Taylor. Thanks for listening. Be sure to subscribe or follow and join us next time.
