Your mind has grooves, and you can feel them when the same shame script plays on repeat. Today, we slow things down and start Day 1 of The Christian Mind Reset with Meditation on the most foundational topic of all: Identity. I’m Dr. April Joy, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, psychotherapist, Bible teacher, and student of neuroscience, and I’ll guide you through Scripture-based declarations that anchor who you are in Christ, not in your past, your performance, or your worst moment.

We talk about why words matter both biblically and neurologically. Neuroscience shows that repeated thoughts and repeated attention strengthen pathways in the brain, which is why certain fears and labels can start to feel “automatic.” Scripture has been teaching this for generations through meditation on God’s Word and the renewing of the mind. These declarations are not manifestations or positive thinking. They’re God’s truth spoken back to our hearts as we learn to replace lies with truth, fear with faith, shame with grace, and striving with surrender.

You’ll be led through a calm, reflective pace with Psalm 139, Romans 8, Romans 12, Isaiah 43, Romans 5, and a closing reading of Psalm 1. We’ll ask honest questions like, "What labels have I accepted that God never gave me?" Then we’ll practice releasing those labels and receiving what God declares, letting the Holy Spirit do the transforming work.

Today, we will begin Day 1 of The Christian Mind Reset with a meditation on the most fundamental topic of all: Identity. I’m Dr. April Joy, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, psychotherapist, Bible teacher, and student of neuroscience. I’ll guide you through Scripture-based declarations that anchor your identity in Christ, rather than in your past, your performance, or your worst moments.

We’ll discuss the significance of words from both a biblical and neurological perspective. Neuroscience shows that repeated thoughts and focused attention strengthen pathways in the brain, which is why certain fears and labels can start to feel “automatic.” Scripture has taught this principle for generations through meditation on God’s Word and the renewing of our minds. These declarations are not mere manifestations or positive thinking; they are God’s truth spoken to our hearts as we learn to replace lies with truth, fear with faith, shame with grace, and striving with surrender.

You will be led through a calm, reflective pace, covering passages from Psalm 139, Romans 8, Romans 12, Isaiah 43, Romans 5, and concluding with a reading of Psalm 1. Together, we will explore honest questions like, "What labels have I accepted that God never gave me?" We will practice releasing those labels and receiving what God declares, allowing the Holy Spirit to do the transforming work in our lives.

Welcome Identity In Christ

SPEAKER_00

Hello and welcome to the Christian Mind Reset. I'm Dr. April Joy, a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, psychotherapist, Bible teacher, and student of neuroscience. If you're following along in your ebook, we are starting day one, and this focuses on identity. Many of us spend years believing labels given to us by other people, our past experiences, our mistakes, our fears. Yet Scripture tells us that our truest identity is not found in what we have done or what has been done to us. Our identity is found in Christ alone.

Words That Rewire The Brain

SPEAKER_00

Before we begin today's biblical declarations, I want to take a minute to explain what we are doing and why we are doing this. Scripture tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Neuroscience agrees with this. Our words matter because they often reflect what we believe and what we repeatedly return our mind to. Neuroscience teaches that repeated thoughts and repeated attention help strengthen pathways in the brain. The more we return to a thought, the more familiar that pathway becomes. Think about your mind as a well-worn path on thoughts that we're repeating over and over. They're like those paths that we walk get worn down. The same thing happens in our mind. Scripture has been teaching this principle all along. We are instructed to meditate on God's word day and night, to take every thought captive, to set our minds on thing above, and renew our minds through truth. And that is what is found in the Word of God. These declarations are not positive thinking, manifestation, or attempts to create our own reality. They are simply God's truth spoken back to our hearts. As we become aware of our thoughts and bring them under the authority of Christ, we learn to replace lies with truth, fear with faith, shame with grace, and striving with surrender. Today, as you listen, don't rush through the declarations. Reflect on the scripture behind them. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you believe what God says is true. We are not trying to transform ourselves through repetition alone. We are abiding in Christ, filling our minds with his word, and allowing him, the Holy Spirit, to do the transforming work. So take a slow breath, quiet your heart before the Lord, and let's return our attention to his truth.

Guided Reflection On Psalm 139

SPEAKER_00

Take a slow breath in, take a slow breath out, relax your shoulders, relax your jaw. Think about the Lord for a minute, okay? Let's quiet the noise around us and return our attention to God, the only one who's worthy of our praise and worship. In Psalm 139 14, the Bible says, I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows very well. Take a moment to reflect on those words. You are not an accident. You didn't just happen to be here. You were formed intentionally by the hands of God. Speak this declaration slowly. I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Chosen Adopted Child Of God

SPEAKER_00

Pause and breathe before achievements, before failures, before success, before mistakes, God chose you. Speak this declaration. I was chosen and adopted by God. My identity is rooted in his love, not my performance. Romans 8 16 states, The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Speak this declaration. I am a child of God. My identity cannot be revoked by circumstances, feelings, or failures.

Release Labels Replace Shame

SPEAKER_00

Romans 12, 2. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Take a slow breath. Ask yourself, What labels have I accepted that God never gave me? What identity has the world tried to place upon me? Now speak this declaration. I release the identity the world gave me. I receive the identity God has declared over me. Isaiah 43, 1 says, Fear not, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine. Let those words settle in your heart. You belong to God. You are known. You are seen. You are loved. Speak this declaration. I will no longer rehearse what shame says. I will rehearse what God says. Romans 5 8. But God demonstrated his own love toward us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us. Speak this declaration. It is not negotiated by my accomplishments. It is not diminished by my failures. My worth was settled on the cross.

Psalm 1 Prayer And Resources

SPEAKER_00

Now let's finish by reading Psalm 1. I am reading from the New King James Version. Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the paths of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bring forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper. The godly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish. Let's close in prayer. Father, we thank you that you do not leave us trapped in old patterns of thinking. Thank you that by your spirit and through your word you renew the mind, restore the soul, and teach us how to walk in truth. Help us notice what we are returning to and gently lead us back to you. Let our thoughts come under the authority of Christ and let our minds be shaped by your word. In Jesus' name, amen.
