Our guest this week is Antwaun Sargent, art critic, curator and writer, who has contributed to The New York Times, The New Yorker, Vice, Interview, and more, as well as essays for multiple museum publications. His first book, “The New Black Vanguard: Photography Between Art and Fashion” (published by Aperture) tracks the emerging global movement of young artists reclaiming the black image, beauty, and identity. We discuss the problem and the movement his book examines, his career trajectory to becoming a writer and critic, and looking to history to find examples of people who are like you.
