Robert The Realist
If you would’ve asked me years ago where I’d end up, a podcast wouldn’t have been on the list. I’m Robert. I’ve worked blue-collar jobs, owned businesses, sold insurance, built homes, currently a Realtor and now I help people navigate big life decisions. This podcast is about the stuff you don’t see on socials—the wins, the mistakes, and the lessons that actually matter. No pressure. No pretending. Just real conversations. Let’s go!

5 Habits of Real Success (Not the Instagram Version)
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Everybody wants success.
But most people are chasing the highlight reel version — the flashy wins, the big numbers, the applause.
In this episode, I break down 5 habits that actually build real success — the kind that lasts. Not just in business, but in life.
After nearly 20 years in sales, building businesses, raising a family, and learning some lessons the hard way, I’ve realized success isn’t about hype… it’s about habits.
We’re talking about:
Keeping your word
Showing up when you don’t feel like it
Protecting your character
Staying teachable
Keeping your priorities in order
This isn’t motivation.
It’s perspective.
If you’re building something — a business, a career, a family, or your faith — this one’s for you.
Hello, my people. Robert the Realist back. Today let's talk about something fun. Let's talk about five habits of real success and not the Instagram version. You know what I've learned? Success isn't complicated, but it is consistent. It's not about motivation, it's not about hype, it's not about watching one more YouTube video. It's about habits. And after almost 20 years of sales, building business, working jobs, nobody brags about, learning the hard way a few times. Here are five habits I believe actually create real success, not flashy success, real success. So the first habit: do what you say you're going to do. That sounds simple, but it's rare. You say you're going to make the call, make it. Say you're going to show up, show up. If you say you're going to change, change. Your reputation isn't built in big moments. It's built in kept promises. In real estate and insurance, I've learned this. People don't just hire skill, they hire reliability. And honestly, so does life. Habit number two, show up when you don't feel like it. Feelings are unreliable. There are days I don't feel motivated. I don't feel like working out. There are days I don't feel confident. I feel fat. There are days I don't feel like pushing. I'm tired. But successful people don't wait on feelings. They build anyway. They call anyway. They work anyway. They pray anyway. Consistency beats intensity every single time. Number three, protect your character more than your image. This one's huge. We live in a world where image is everything, but images can be edited. Character can't. You can look successful online, but be failing apart every time. Real success, who you are when nobody's watching. Integrity is the small things. Honesty when it costs you. Only mistakes instead of blaming others. I'd rather lose a deal than lose my integrity. Because you can rebuild income. It's a lot harder to rebuild trust. Never learned that. Number four, stay teachable. The second you think you've arrived, you're done growing. I don't care how long you've been in business, I don't care how many wins you've had. If you stop learning, you start declining. Read, listen, ask questions, admit when you're wrong. Ego blocks growth. Humility accelerates it. And I've had seasons where my ego cost me more than any market ever did. Number five, keep your priorities in order. This one's big. You can win everywhere else and still lose the most important things. For me, success without faith, family, and peace isn't success. If I build something big but lose my marriage, that's not winning. If my kids don't respect me, that's not success. If I'm constantly stressed and empty, what's the point? Your priorities protect your success. Out of order priorities destroy it. Here's the truth. Success isn't glamorous, it's disciplined, it's repetitive, it's sometimes boring, it's sometimes lonely. But it builds on habits. And the good news, habits are controllable. You don't control the market, you don't control the economy, you don't control what other people do, but you control your word, your effort, your integrity, your growth, your priorities. And that's enough to build something meaningful. Not overnight, but over time. And honestly, I'm not trying to be an overnight success. I'm trying to be a long term success. There is a difference. Guys, I appreciate you tuning in. Hopefully, you get some out of these habits. I've done this long enough that I've been there and done that. So I want to give you the opportunity to be a success. Define your success and go after it. Don't let nobody stop you. Robert the Realist. Ow.
