In this episode, I break down 1 Timothy 4:8 and how it’s played out in my own life. I’ve spent years focused on physical work, hustle, and grinding things out—but this verse is a reminder that while physical training has value, training for godliness impacts every area of life.

I share how this scripture has shaped my priorities, my discipline, and the way I approach work, family, and faith. This isn’t about being perfect—it’s about training for what actually lasts, both now and in the life to come.

If you’ve ever been disciplined in one area of life but felt like something deeper was missing, this episode is for you.

Hello, my people. It's Robert the Realist here. Today, kind of gonna go off of the cusp a little bit. I wanted to pop on here because of a scripture I read this morning that I think is valuable on both ends of this. And when I read you the scripture, you'll get what I mean. So the scriptures physically train, or sorry, physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in the life and in the life to come, which that's 1 Timothy, 1 Timothy 4 through 8. I like this scripture because it tells us to do two things, which is train physically, but as more importantly, we need to train uh for godliness. Whatever that defines for you, to me, it's uh kind of my morning regimen, so I'll kind of lead into that is getting up and reading the one year Bible. Uh, and I say the one year Bible, reading the Bible in a year. I've I've done the one-year Bible version, I've I've done a couple different versions over the last three or four years, I think this is my fourth year, and this year it's uh one year Bible with uh Nikki and Pippa Gumble. Um, and if you're interested in that, I can get that for you. But I do that, and then I move right through the uh U version Bible app into the uh guided scripture, uh, which I call it uh scripture for dummies. Because what it does is it goes over that like particular scripture I just read, 1 Timothy 4 through 3, and it explains it to you in about a I don't know, usually they're between a minute and two and a half minutes, so it's nothing crazy. And then I go into prayer. Again, it's got a it's got a basically a guided prayer on there as well uh that it'll that it'll walk you through, it will uh go over scripture with you, it will ask the questions, it will help you go through prayer. So I spend about 45, 30 to 45 minutes doing that, probably a little longer than most. And then I've got another app that I go over into Operator Standard. Uh it is actually built, it's an app by Andy Frisella, and what I do there is journal uh from the previous day and create five tasks that day that move me forward in business and in life. And so I have that task every single day, seven days a week. I have to put those tasks together. It can be in you know, a physical task could be a second workout, recording a podcast, adding to my book, whatever that is. So I do that, and then I do pop over to social media and just kind of scroll through real quick, and then the operator standard app that I'm in, it also has a social platform on it too. So I kind of run through there a little bit, see everybody's doing. It's definitely way better than Facebook because it's a bunch of like-minded people. But then after that, I get up and I go downstairs, and my uh if I really break it down to you, I fill up a 20-ounce uh water bottle, in that I put a hydration tablet and put some real salt in it, then kind of gear up for my workout. Uh my workouts in the morning just depends on the day. I actually have Peloton uh build my workout. It it allows me to build my workout through Peloton based off of what I'm trying to accomplish, how many days a week, time, etc. So I pop in there and it's usually a 30 to 45 minute workout. If it's only 30, I'll do another 15 or something and uh get a full 45-minute workout in. Uh after the 45-minute workout, I hang upside down on. I can't even think of what they're called. I knew I was gonna do that. Whatever that machine is, you hang upside down on. So I hang upside down on it for three minutes, uh, which is feels amazing, especially when all the blood rushes through your head. If you get one of those, uh make sure you ease into it. Don't slip over and go for three minutes. There's some adjustment to it as well. Uh I also do about five to six minutes of stretching. I have uh seven or eight different stretches that I do every morning, the same ones. Um then after that, my sauna's been heating up for about 20 minutes, so I jump in my sauna with red light for about 10 minutes. And a lot of times I'm I might record a podcast, or I might uh listen to uh Andy Frasella's podcast, or I may just listen to Christian music. And then some days, like this morning, I was just listening to country music, just kind of whatever mood I'm in. Uh I know that sounds weird, but some days you're just not really motivated to do the things you want to do, and you just need some good music. So I do the sauna for about 10 minutes. I think it gets up to about 120 degrees, I think is what I attempt at uh before it's a steam, uh steam sauna, and then I put a red light in it. Then after that, I hop into the cold plunge for about three minutes, and it's it bounces around about 50 degrees. In that cold plunge, I actually have been putting hydrogen tablets. I make hydrogen tablets uh that you can put in there too. And I tell you, it's it's quite a regimen. It takes me I don't know, about an hour and a half hour and forty-five minutes. I mean, I get up at 5 30 and I'm upstairs and uh doing the things to get ready for work around 7 45, 8 o'clock. And then if it's a weekday, I spend you know 15 to 30 minutes with the grandbaby and then get to the office between uh 8 30 and 9. So that's my regimen. So it kind of goes back to the physical training and the godliness training. I try to get both of those done uh first thing in the morning and get them out of the way. There's no excuses for why people can't do it. My wife gets up at 4:30, and uh I think she's crazy, and I told her that, but she wants to get up and get her godliness and her physical training out of the way before she picks Heidi up at 7:15, 720. So again, she has no excuses, she just gets up and gets it done. And we've been on this type of regimen for years. You think you think I'd be all ripped up, six-pack abs, jacked, you know, but fortunately or unfortunately, you know, 80% of your diet starts in the in the kitchen, and I I like to eat. So but um, if anybody ever knew Big Bob, you scroll back through some pictures and see Big Bob, you'll know that I'm a far a long ways away from that. And if you go back back in those days too, you'll know I'm a long way from my godliness training on that part of it too. So uh that's that's just kind of I wanted to venture off there a little bit and uh base it off of scripture and my morning judgment. So hopefully this helps somebody get up in the morning, quit making excuses, listening to the wrong voices in your head. You can get up, you can do it. You don't have to get up and do 30 minutes of HIT training like I did this morning. You can get up and just walk. The weather's warming up, go outside, just walk. You don't have it doesn't have to be extreme. Um, it doesn't have to be 5-40 in the morning. I've just never been the guy that can go to the gym at 5 o'clock. Y'all, you all people are crazy. Like, I mean, crazy good, maybe a little crazy bad too, but I just don't 5 30 or 6 o'clock, guys. I'm done. I'm I'm ready to be home, tapped out with the fam. So, but I think if you really want to perform in life at a high, high level, uh, you've got to squeeze every minute out of the day. You know, people are like, How are you, you know, recording a podcast? How are you reading books? How are you starting your book? How are you, you know, running two businesses? How do you, you know, how do you do all these things? Guys, I squeeze every inch out. I'm on my way to the office right now. I'm not saying because I'm on my way to the office, but instead of listening to some to some music or something that's not going to do me any good, I'm I'm kicking this podcast out for you guys because I really felt it on my heart that it was something that that I needed to go over with the physical and godliness training. So quit making excuses, get out there and get to work. I appreciate you guys. I love you guys. Robert, the realist out.
