Are you ready to dream big? Because here we are. Robbie's finally given you his warner about Marty Supreme. Our friends over at IMDB have this as Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness. It is written by Ronald Bronstein and Josh Shafty, and it is directed by Josh Safty. I have this as wow, I'm still processing this film, but amazing performances across the board. Uncomfortable, powerful, and really electric film. Four and a half stars with a heart. My beautiful bride's review is I Hated It, worst movie of the year. So let's get into it. This movie is the big deal that everybody's been waiting for. It feels like it's been sort of looming all year as Timothy Chalamet's possibility of knocking uh Leo and uh Michael B. Jordan uh off of the top of the pedestal. Um Timothy Chalamet plays Marty Mauser. He is a 20-something uh young man in 50s New York City who is um leveraging his entire existence into being the greatest ping pong player in the world. And he is uh unbelievable. I I uh I love this movie. I uh I know scoundrels like this. Uh the reason I think this movie resonated so poorly with my wife is she hates scoundrels. Uh, she hates bad people, and bad things happen because of this person. So that is very difficult for her to deal with. And I think that what I am seeing in this performance is Timothy living into uh character and committing fully to every aspect of his life. It's really unbelievable what he's able to pull off from the fast talking and the constant scheming to the ping pong playing that's actually happening. It's really uh it's a tour de force performance, and it may actually knock Leo off the top of the pedestal. Uh, I think we may have finally crowned Timothy, best actor. Uh, the other top cast members that they have listed, uh, I'm gonna go out of order. I'm gonna call out Odessa as an AZ on uh who plays Rachel Meisler. Uh it is Mart, that is Marty's sort of uh childhood friend, girlfriend, crush. Uh she is unbelievable. She matches Marty in every way. She is down to be a part of his schemes. She is absolutely uh vibrating at the same frequency that Marty is. I think they both uh have so much it factor. Um, I mean, it's obvious with Timothy, but we get to see it with Odessa, and she is really the it girl of the moment. She is so good in this movie, and you get a chance to see her when she has been lying to even Marty. And uh it's it's really it's great. It's like uh the the uh the the trainee has become the master. Uh she's really unreal in it. Um Timothy meets up with Kay by seeing her after being interviewed in the lobby about his ping pong playing. Uh Kay is a movie star who arrives. Uh, she's an aging movie star who's coming back to theater, uh, played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Uh, this is the best Gwyneth has been in years. She is so good in this role. She uh sees so much of herself in what Marty's doing. She at one point he uh steals from her and he realizes that uh he can't get any money for what he stole, so he brings it back to her, trying to get on her good graces, and she says very pointedly, like, You stole it from me. I know you stole it, I would have stolen it from me. And I just think there's so much uh in this mirroring of like an older woman who lost a son who's about Marty's age, and then she sees a lot of herself in him. It's really uh a fantastic performance. I really loved it. Uh, there's a million that guys in this movie. Uh the big call out here would be Tyler the creator is really great as Wally, who is um Marty's close friend and person he gets into hijinks with and constantly is in trouble with. Um, Fran Dresher plays his mother, Rebecca. Um we also have uh Kevin, uh Mr. Wonderful from um Shark Tank is in this movie as sort of the big heavy in a lot of ways. Uh he is super important because he is a pen magnet who is married to uh Gwyneth Paltrow's character, and uh he is uh kind of a difficult man, um, but has what Marty wants between K and Money, probably more money, um, but he's fantastic, and uh it is really uh unreal to watch Kevin get a chance to uh Kevin O'Leary, he plays Milton Rockwell, uh, and he has a whole backstory. I listened to so many interviews with Josh Safty about this. Um Kevin had never acted before. He knows what it's like to be a villain, he's very good at it on television. He's a businessman who often plays and knows how to play for drama, and he's really great in this movie. Um see, I think the last fun call-outs would probably be Pen Gillette plays uh Hoff, who is the uh they lose a dog in New Jersey, and he ends up with the dog, and he is unrecognizable as Hoff. Um and then yeah. You've got Abe Vagoda is playing uh the character that he has he gets the dog from this song, this movie is so convoluted, I can't believe that it made sense in the moment. I can't describe it to you easily. Um, but I will say you should see this. Uh, I expect to feel uncomfortable, um, and then just let the amazing performances wash over you. Because they are all of them. It's it's so unreal what he gets out of these actors and how good Josh Safty is at telling this story. Yeah. Uh I'm exhausted just thinking about it, but uh, I can't wait to see it in the theater again. You should see this movie. Again, I gave it four and a half stars with a heart. It is probably, I think, as of this moment, my number five film of 2025. And uh it's a pretty good year, man. People are complaining about it not being a good year, but I think it's a pretty good year. Uh, I think this is probably gonna be one of my last for this year. So thank you so much for sticking with me through 2026. Uh, remember, these are now available as video uh podcasts over on Spotify directly and over on YouTube. Um, I've also started adding them to geekonfilm.com as of yesterday. Uh, so we have all the videos being streamed there. Uh did a little cleanup, it's a little bit more mobile friendly. Uh, I really am so thankful for this podcast and for the community I've gotten to be a part of. Uh, I look forward to 2026 being one where I spend more time. Uh, I had a goal this year of seeing 365 films as of right now. My diary has me, I think, at 336. Uh yeah, it's been a year. 339. Um, last night I caught up on a couple of the uh shortlisted Oscar uh short documentaries. Uh, it's been great. I enjoy this so much. I hope that you're getting something out of these podcasts.
