Let's engage the path. Let's engage the authenticity journey by breaking it down into multiple parts. The path of authenticity, the path of life, is not like a superhighway rising above the messy details of life. Your path of life is right there in the midst of it all. You can't separate it from the daily grind of doctor appointments, house cleaning, car repairs, unexpected company, menu planning, sickness, and even navigating the post-COVID world and all the changes that came with it. Focusing on your journey takes precedence because everything you do is part of your journey. You don't set aside your path and your search for your authentic self because of the list of chores, appointments, overtime at work, chauffeuring kids, time with friends, and all the other things you need to accomplish. You don't postpone your journey for another time when there is less happening in your life because that's not realistic. It's not going to happen. Your journey aligns with everything else that is going on in your life. Your path isn't a high-speed bypass that avoids the traffic of daily life. It is the road itself. It's incredibly enjoyable to learn about yourself and discover new and amazing things about your own nature. Actually, as you travel the path step by step with authenticity, it gets better and better. The path of authenticity, debunking the myths of the journey. Stepping onto the path can feel daunting, but in today's podcast, we're going to clear the brush by exposing three major myths that keep people stuck. Many fear that being their true authentic self will isolate them. The Capital T truth: once you embrace authenticity, you discover a vibrant community of fellow travelers waiting to welcome you. You aren't leaving the world. You're finally finding your real place in it. The second myth, the myth of hard work. We often procrastinate because we think self-discovery is a grueling chore. In reality, uncovering the amazing layers of your nature is incredibly enjoyable. Each step isn't a burden, it's a spark of energy that makes life better and better as you go. The third myth is the myth of the type. There is no mold for an authentic person because the entire goal is to match your true self. There is no wrong way to be yourself. This isn't a one-size-fits-all methodology, it's a celebration of your unique individuality. By engaging the path today, you stop being a victim of your schedule and start directing your life toward the dreams and goals that resonate with your core. It's time to stop waiting for the perfect moment and start enjoying the delightful discovery of who you actually are. Life is often compared alternately to a journey or a path. For our discussion, we'll use both terms, referring to life as a journey in which we travel through time and a series of paths each of us forms along the way. Starting out, we form our path by processing our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, actions, imagination, connections, and reflections. These processes are part of what make us human beings, and altogether, the seven elements form the stepping stones of the path thinking, feeling, believing, acting, imagining, connecting, and reflecting. If we are in tune with our true self, then this becomes a solid foundation for a path of authenticity. Each of these seven elements can be passive or active, can happen simultaneously, overlap, occur one at a time, and in any order. When I think, feel, believe, and act, I determine where my path leads. What I imagine will influence the direction of my future existence. Who I connect with and how I process my memories or recollections will also have a defining impact on my path. Our personal paths don't exist separate from us. We each create our path every day, indeed, every hour and minute. And as we do, we visualize it in our mind's eye. What does that mean? It means that in a way we create our path, but this might not mean what it sounds like. We do not create the world around us, but rather we perceive it and then we process our perceptions. The way we process those perceptions, what we think they mean and what we plan to do with those thoughts, becomes our path. Because of that, we can define what a path is. The path represents movement in life or time. Time is a funny thing. We think of time as linear, as if this happens, then that, and then the next thing, but that's not really how it works. It actually happens all at once. Time overlaps. We think of it happening sequentially because we crave order. More than that, we think in terms of telling the story of our day and our life, so our brains process time in a way that the story can be told, with a beginning, a middle, and an end. What's funny about all of this is we don't have access to the future because it exists only in one place in our imagination. It is the imagined future. We don't have direct access to the past because it exists only in our stream of memories. We cannot change that path. It is our past path. We only have access to the eternal present. We can encounter our past path through consequences, but consequences occur in the eternal present. I call it the eternal present because it is always the present. An essential aspect of the seven steps that I listed a minute ago is that you pay attention and never leave out any of the seven steps. Here's why. If you move through time as only a thinker, you are incomplete. The same is true if you act without thinking. It's equally true if you think without imagination, though. A person with no connections is deprived of part of their humanity, and a person without a belief system of their own is missing an anchor. We cannot make up for missing one of the steps by having an overabundance of another. To move along the path as a true self is to step on every step. Oh, it's unlikely that your seven steps will be equally balanced, for we are all gifted in different ways. Still, you need all seven steps. When you think about your path, which of the seven steps do you rely on most of all? This is one of the aspects of authenticity that is individual and unique. Processing your perceptions. You don't create the physical world, but you do create your path by how you process your perceptions. Authenticity is about ensuring your internal processing, what you think things mean and what you plan to do is honest and aligned with your values. Your imagination is the only bridge to the future. Authentic individuals use their imagination not for worry, but to influence the direction of their future existence, ensuring their mind's eye is focused on where they truly want to go. While we all have different natural gifts, an authentic life requires a conscious effort to engage the steps we might normally ignore. Whether it's reflecting more deeply on memories or forging stronger connections, these steps ensure your path is solid rather than shaky. By embracing the eternal present and engaging all seven steps, you ensure that your movement through time is not accidental, but a deliberate expression of your true self. Let's build a solid foundation by conducting a self-audit on your seven steps. This seven-step self-audit is designed to help you identify which stepping stones are firm and which might need more attention. Remember, the goal isn't perfect balance, but rather complete integration. Rate yourself on a scale of one to five for each step. One equals never or weak, five equals always or strong, based on how you've moved through the eternal present lately. Ask yourself, thinking, am I analyzing my life clearly or am I letting autopilot take over my logic? Feeling, do I acknowledge my emotions as valid data, or do I repress them to stay productive? Believing, do I have a personal anchor or value system that is mine? Or am I borrowing others? Acting, do my physical movements and habits actually match my internal intentions? Imagining, am I using my imagined future to inspire growth? Or am I stuck in worry? Connecting, am I forging genuine relationships, or am I isolated and going it alone? Reflecting, do I look at my past path to gain wisdom, or do I ignore the lessons of my memories? Now analyze your path. Scores of four and five could mean these are your natural gifts. Use these to help pull up your weaker stepping stones. For example, if you are a strong thinker, use that logic to schedule more time for connection. Scores of one to two is where your path feels shaky. If you act without thinking or connect without believing, you are moving inauthentically. Pick your lowest scoring stone. What is one small action you can take in the eternal present to step more firmly on that stone? Low on reflecting? Spend your commute thinking about a lesson from last week. Low on imagining? While grocery shopping, visualize the version of you that feels completely fulfilled. Your journey starts now. Embrace the eternal present. The path to your true self isn't a destination you reach after the chores are done and the kids are grown. It is the vibrant, messy, beautiful reality of the life you are living right this very second. By debunking the myths of the grind and embracing the seven steps, you've already begun to clear the brush from your unique trail. Remember, you are the architect of your own perception. Whether you are scrubbing the kitchen floor or dreaming of your imagined future, every moment is a chance to step firmly onto your stones of thinking, feeling, believing, acting, imagining, connecting, and reflecting. Don't wait for a perfect moment that doesn't exist. Grab hold of the eternal present, integrate your self-audit insights, and watch as your path transforms from a shaky trail into a solid foundation of joy and purpose. You aren't just moving through time. You are finally gloriously becoming who you were always meant to be. Let's keep moving forward, authentically, boldly, and together.
