Day 6: The Power of Your Testimony

What happens after the breakthrough?

After exploring the environment of Bethesda, the challenge of change, the courage to trust God's voice, the struggle of identity and the determination to stay up, we now move beyond the pool and into the power of testimony.

In this sixth study of The Courage to Get Up, we discover that what God has done in your life is not just for you. The man at Bethesda could not hide the fact that his story had changed. The mat he once lay on had become evidence of God's transforming power. His life had become a testimony.

Through Revelation 12:11, we explore why testimony is such a powerful weapon of faith. You'll discover how sharing God's faithfulness strengthens others, breaks the power of isolation and reminds us of the victories God has already won in our lives. We also consider why some of our greatest testimonies are born from the very places we once wanted to hide.

This study will encourage you to recognise the value of your own story and understand how God can use your experiences to bring hope, encouragement and faith to others.

Hello and welcome to day six of this study series, Courage to Get Up. Well, over the past five days, we've walked alongside the man at Bethesda. We've explored the environment that shaped him, the question that challenged him, the word that called him to faith, the identity he had to leave behind, and the courage required to stay up once he had been healed. In many ways, we've now moved beyond Bethesda, thank God. The man is no longer lying beside the pool, he's no longer waiting for change, he's no longer being defined by limitation. But hallelujah, he is standing, walking, and moving forward into a new chapter of his life. Yet the story doesn't end there. What happens after the breakthrough? What happens after healing? What happens after God changes our story? The answer is that God often takes the very things He's brought us through and uses them to encourage, strengthen, and inspire others. What God has done in your life is not just for you, it becomes part of your testimony. The topic for today's study is the power of your testimony. Well, just to recap, in day five, we explored Jesus' instruction to pick up the mat. We discovered that the courage to get up is not simply about standing up once, it's about staying up, continuing to move forward, and refusing to return to the places, mindsets, and identities that God has already called us beyond. We also reflected on the fact that the mat no longer represented limitation. We also reflected on the fact that the mat no longer represented limitation. It had become evidence of transformation. The man was no longer lying on the mat, he was carrying it. The very thing that once symbolized his struggle had become proof that his story had changed. Well, today we take that one step further. What happens when the evidence of God's work in our lives becomes a testimony for others? The miracle at Bethesda was never intended to remain private. You see, for years people had seen this man beside the pool and were familiar with his condition. Remember, they knew his story, they knew his limitations, and his long season of waiting. When they later saw him walking through Jerusalem carrying the mat he once lay on, there could be no doubt that something significant had happened. His transformed life had become a testimony. Now a testimony is much more than a personal story, right? It is evidence of God's faithfulness and a witness to his power. Through testimony, we remind ourselves and others that God is still able to intervene to restore, heal, and transform lives. It's true that many believers underestimate the value of their testimonies because they compare their story with someone else's. They assume that unless their experience is dramatic, extraordinary, or widely known, it has little value. Yet the power of a testimony is not found in how impressive the story sounds. The power of a testimony is found in what it reveals about God. You see, for one person, the testimony may be physical healing. For another, it may be freedom from fear. For someone else, it might be restoration after loss, provision during hardship, or the strength to keep trusting God through a difficult season. Every testimony is different, but each one points to the same truth that God is faithful. This is why Revelations 12, 11 is so significant. Now let's just read that from the New King James Version, and it says, And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Amen. It says they triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. Notice that the verse doesn't separate God's work from our weakness. The blood of the Lamb is the foundation of our victory, but the word of our testimony becomes evidence of that victory in action. Our testimony becomes a declaration of what God has done and a reminder that his power is still at work today. You know, the enemy thrives in secrecy, isolation, and shame. He wants people to believe they are the only ones struggling, they're the only ones waiting, and the only ones questioning whether God will come through for them. But testimony breaks that lie. When we hear how God has worked in another person's life, something shifts within us. Hope begins to rise, faith is strengthened. We're reminded that the same God who was faithful to them remains faithful today. This is one of the reasons testimony is so powerful. It builds bridges between people's struggles and God's promises. It helps people move from simply reading about God's faithfulness to seeing evidence of it in the lives of ordinary men and women. Testimony also serves another important purpose. It helps us remember. We forget the moments when his grace sustained us and his provision arrived at exactly the right time. You see, a testimony becomes a record of God's faithfulness. It reminds us that if God has been faithful before, he will be faithful again. And the greatest testimonies are often born from the places we once wanted to hide. The experiences that caused disappointment, embarrassment, or pain can become the clearest evidence of God's transforming power. What once felt like a weakness can become a source of encouragement to someone else walking a similar path. Remember, the mat was once a symbol of limitation. Now it was evidence of freedom. The pool was once a place of disappointment. Now it was the backdrop to a miracle. The story had not been erased, the story had been redeemed. And the same is true for us. God doesn't always remove every trace of our journey. Sometimes he uses it. Sometimes the very experience we wish had never happened becomes the platform from which God encourages, strengthens, and restores somebody else. What God has done in your life is not just for you. I'm going to repeat that again. What God has done in your life is not just for you. And I'm going to make that personal. What God has done in my life is not just for me. You see, your testimony may become the encouragement someone else needs to keep believing, keep praying, and keep trusting God. So let's look at three takeaways for this study. And remember, we're looking at the power of your testimony. Number one, the power of a testimony is not found in how dramatic it is, but in what it reveals about God's faithfulness. Number two, testimony strengthens faith, breaks isolation, and gives hope to others. And number three, the places of greatest struggle often become the places of greatest weakness. Amen to that. So let's look at the application for this study, and you'll notice that throughout this series, we've encouraged you to invite a trusted friend, mentor, prayer partner, or mature believer into your journey. Today we encourage you to do the same. Now, as I was pulling this study together, I remember that for those who know me, they will know that I often share my testimony. In fact, I sometimes describe myself as a come and see a man person, drawing inspiration from the Samaritan woman in St. John 4, who after her encounter with Jesus, she couldn't keep the experience to herself. She felt compelled to tell others what had happened and invite them to come and see for themselves. And I can often relate to that. I find myself sharing what God is doing in my life through my ministry in the workplace, within my family, and in the everyday experiences of life. Not because I'm trying to draw attention to myself, but because I'm experiencing the reality of God's presence, his favor, guidance, and power. You see, when you've seen God move, it becomes difficult to remain silent. Testimony is therefore powerful because it's a living declaration of God's faithfulness. It provides evidence that God is still at work and still changing lives. It encourages those who are struggling, strengthens those who are waiting, and reminds all of us that God keeps his promises. So with that in mind, the application for today is going to be linked to sharing your testimony. So take some time to reflect on your journey with God so far and think about times where He's provided, where He's healed, restored, protected, sustained, or transformed you. These don't need to be dramatic events. Remember, often the most powerful testimonies are found in everyday expressions of God's faithfulness. And then choose one testimony that you feel comfortable sharing with your trusted partner. And we don't want you to only share what happened, but also share what you learned about God through the experience. Reflect together on how that testimony might encourage someone who is currently facing a similar challenge. And as you share, remember that testimony is not about drawing attention to yourself, it's about giving glory to God and strengthening the faith of those around you. Ask your trusted partner to pray with you that God will continue to use your story for his purposes and to reveal opportunities where your testimony may encourage others. So let's go into a time of prayer and before we pray, let's reflect on the words of Psalm 107 and verse 2. I so love this scripture. And it says, Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story, those who he redeemed from the hand of the foe. Another version says, Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he's redeemed from the hand of the enemy. Spend a few moments thanking God for his faithfulness throughout your life. Thank him for prayers answered, lessons learned, doors opened, protection provided, and strength given during difficult seasons. Begin to thank him for every chapter he has redeemed and every battle he has brought you through. Amen, amen. And thank him that your story is still being written and that every chapter of your journey can be used for his glory. Just take this time to just offer up a Thanksgiving offering of praise and adoration to the King of Kings and to the Lord of Lords. So, Heavenly Father, we thank you for your faithfulness throughout every season of our lives. Thank you for the ways you've sustained us, provided for us, healed us, restored us, and carried us when we could not carry ourselves. Help us never to forget what you've done for us. Thank you for every testimony represented in our lives, whether public or private, dramatic or ordinary. Help us to recognize that every evidence of your faithfulness is worth celebrating and sharing. Father, we pray that you will give us the courage to share our testimony with humility, with wisdom and authenticity. May our stories point people towards you rather than ourselves. Use our experience to encourage those who are struggling, strengthen those who are waiting, and inspire those who need hope. Father, we thank you that nothing in our lives is wasted when it is placed in your hands. May our testimony become a witness to your grace, a witness to your power, and a witness to your goodness. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. So I hope that you have really found wisdom, knowledge, understanding, inspiration, and motivation from today's study on the power of your testimony.
