A funny, lighthearted and often sarcastic look at the issues we face in the world today. Issues we never expected to face because we have common sense. However, common sense is not as common as you would think.

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Over the Fence Common Sense Podcast, where we're continually looking for common sense in just a lot of the issues going on today. So let's jump right in. We'll start with the Seattle Pride Parade. Now, if you know me, you know I don't care what you identify as, I don't care what you dress as, I don't care who you sleep with, I don't care about any of it. But when you allow naked men to ride on bicycles in a parade, a mixed crowd of it's just not appropriate. I just, it just blows me away that people think this is okay. You know, if you're in a club or a whatever, I I just don't understand it. People had children there. And certainly, you know, back in the day there was a thing called streaking. And if you even now, if you go out naked, it's indecent exposure and your ass is going to jail. But in Seattle, they allow that. It's one of those um, I don't know, sanctuary cities, whatever they call them, where they have no laws. You can just do whatever you want to do. I'm just not for that. Which leads me to the next topic. Obviously, everyone's watching the news, all the um what do they call them, socialist? Socialism versus capitalism. Here's just kind of my take on it. I I know back in school in elementary school, when we were in kid in elementary, when we were kids, we said the Pledge of Allegiance every day. We had civics, we had American history. Do y'all remember this? I'm Just a Bill. This was a cartoon that we were shown probably every year through elementary school, which explains how a bill becomes a law. And if you don't remember, it's it's kind of a cool walk down memory lane. Just Google it. I'm just a bill, and you can watch the cartoon. It's a little song, catchy little tune. Um, but the the important thing here is this is what they taught us in school. We learned about politics, we learned about our government, we learned about American history, the good and the bad. It's not all pretty, but it is what it is. Um back in school, we had shop class, we had home ec things that made us more prepared for the future. And a lot of us left high school feeling like we could conquer the world. And a lot of us did. At the very least, we had jobs. Just my observation, my opinion for what it's worth. You know what they say about opinions, but this is mine. If you graduated high school and you got a job right away, most likely you turned out to be a conservative. I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate mail for this, but if you went to college for years and you graduated with a degree, but no job, no career, um, most likely you're a liberal. And again, this is just my opinion, but that's what I see. I'm 60 years old, I've seen a lot of things, and that's what I see. Um, I personally know people that are Democrat, I would even say socialist. Um, and I don't want to give away too much information, but um this husband and wife have a lot of money, a lot of money, and they're democratic socialist, but their family members are struggling. So, you know, charity begins at home. If you're a democratic socialist and you believe that, you know, your money is their money and everybody should help everybody, why is your family struggling? Just saying, I don't understand it. Um, I'm really trying to understand the benefits of socialism. And you know, I'm just a person, like I've said a million times, I'm a property manager. I manage rental homes. I have for over 40 years. I'm a licensed realtor, that's all I know. But I'm trying to understand why so many people are jumping on this bandwagon. I would welcome a conversation, not a debate, not an argument, but a deep conversation to get in the brain of someone who believes in socialism just so I can understand it. What do they feel are the benefits? And and you know, if it's programs and free buses and free daycare, let's break it down. Let's talk about the quality of the daycare. Who's gonna pay for all of this? You know, this is some of the stuff I want to know. So if there's someone out there that that would love to have a conversation, please enlighten me. Um, I'm not the smartest person, so take it slow, break it down, make it simple for for me to understand, but I'm really having a hard time understanding. So um just trying to learn and understand. So again, if there's someone out there, the email address, um, let me hear from you because I have a genuine interest in learning why people think it's it's um, I mean, obviously it's it's never worked anywhere. People is are getting away from it, that's why they come here. So I feel like it's a step backwards. Again, just my opinion. Moving on. Um, I've talked about this before. I always share these crazy stories about my health insurance. Um, but it's just really getting ridiculous. Um, my copay for most services is pretty much higher than the cash price. That will never make sense to me. Um, you know, if if we were to take the the money that's deducted from my husband's paycheck every week and and held on to it, we could pay for most services based on cash prices. I'm really shaking my head on this one. I mean, I know the healthcare system is just screwed up in this country, but talk about lack of common sense. This this is serious. Um, you there's no way that your copay um or your, you know, should be higher than the cash price. It's just insane. Again, somebody needs to explain that to me. You know, and then when you pay the copay, you think, okay, that's it. My copay is paid. That's what they said I owe. I paid it. I'm gonna go have the mammogram. No, nope, nope. You you pay the $40 cope, I'm sorry, $80 copay, you have the mammogram, and two weeks later you get a bill in the mail for $375. Now I know damn well I can get a mammogram for free. So this one really pisses me off. And my insurance company is gonna hear from me about this one because that's just insane. If I'm gonna owe $375, tell me that up front so I can decide if I want to go through with it or if I want to make other arrangements. It's just not fair. It's not transparent, it's shady, it's almost criminal. It's annoying, it pisses me off. So enough of the bad things. Um, happy 250th birthday, America. Everybody knows you can look around. I'm extremely patriotic. I'm a proud American. I think there's no better place on earth. Um, and hopefully all of you agree with me. But in honor of the holiday coming up, I wanted to share some little known facts about America that I never knew, but I I found them to be pretty cool. So just gonna share a few of these with you. Um we all know the national bird is the bald eagle, but did you know that the national mammal is the bison? Did not know that. Um, my husband and I spent a vacation a week in a cabin on a bison ranch in, I think it was North Carolina. Best vacation of my life. Literally, the bison would walk right in front of the cabin. They're beautiful animals, they're massive. Um, but they're good. There's a place near us that sells bison burgers. Um, it's some of the cleanest, best, freshest meat. Amazing. Big fan. So, moving on. Another unknown fact: the state of Pennsylvania is spelled wrong in the Constitution. They only used one end. So who knew? Um, another one. Almost all U.S. presidents have been Christian. Joe Biden and John F. Kennedy were Catholics, um, and Jefferson and Lincoln had no specific religious affiliation, but all the rest of them were Christians. Um, two more. One is New York City has uh more people than 38 of the 50 states. That was a little surprising, but then when you look at New York, the way it's constructed, the buildings and and just the massive numbers of people that are there. Um I guess not too surprising. It's more surprising that they're all socialists. Um and a final one, I just had to chuckle when I when I read this. In 1855, the U.S. Army allotted $30,000 to purchase and import camels to see if they could be useful in some way. The program never really took off. Um the the US Army, I'm not sure exactly what happened, but um it just never took off. I'm sure there was some maybe back then animal person that activists that that, but but that's what happened. Uh, most of the cameras, camels were sold to zoos and to the circus. Um, so you know, I always say when referring to uh the government, not my circus, not my monkeys. Um, so whatever you and your family are doing this weekend to celebrate this amazing country of ours, please have fun, be safe, be aware. Um, if you're in a crowd, just keep your eyes open. Things are getting crazy. Um, and be grateful that we live in this country. Um, it's truly the greatest country in the world, in my opinion. Um, thank you all for watching, and please remember to share, follow, like, um, and help my channel. Subscribe even. Um, it all just helps promote my channel. Remember, what you allow is what will continue. So if you're not happy, do something about it. Until next time, God bless you, God bless America. Goodbye.
