Hello everyone and welcome back to the Over the Fence Common Sense Podcast. My name is Vicky. Normally on this podcast we talk about common sense issues, current events, politics, things that kind of affect all of us. So today's gonna be no different. A little bit different of a topic though. I want to talk about getting old and all these things that are happening to us. One thing I'll preface this with is we have to find the humor in everything. And if if you can't laugh about some of these things, getting old is gonna be a lot more difficult for you. So always find the humor as I do. Some of these are maybe things that are just happening to me, but I suspect that it's happening to a lot of us, especially us ladies. So I can say that, first of all, you you definitely know you're getting old when you put a box of tissues in your car versus fast food napkins that nowadays are recycled and they smell like garbage. I know when my son was little, um every time we went to fast food or to the drive-thru, I always asked for extra napkins. And you could open any storage area of my vehicle and out would pop this huge wad of fast food napkins. But now that they're recycled, I swear they smell like garbage. I can't I can't put that in my face. So um, but it's funny that when you get old you you start paying attention to things like that. And if you find a box of tissues in somebody's car, you can best believe they're over 50. Um another thing that that is funny, and I've actually seen people do this, and and I do it. I'm guilty, guilty as charged. I'm usually the driver in our family, whether we're traveling or whatever, but when I'm going someplace I've never been and I'm paying attention to my GPS, and I could go for miles and miles and have the radio on, music playing, and I'm fine. But when I'm getting to my destination and I have to start paying attention, I I literally have to turn the radio down so I can see better. I don't understand the logic in that, but I do it. I try not to, but it's like my brain can only do one thing at a time. So yeah, I turn the radio down so I can see better. Makes no sense. But I do it. Another thing that I've noticed as I've gotten older, and I've noticed this with other people too, when you're getting older, we'll call us seniors, seasoned, wisdom, full, or whatever you want to say. But we're old. Somewhere in your house, you have your chair. And everyone knows that's your chair, and nobody sits there. Family gatherings, you have you know, 10, 12, 15 people, but nobody's that everybody knows that's Grammy's chair, you can't sit there. And it's just funny to me. I I have that chair. Um and next to that chair, you will always find everything that you could possibly need in life. Like fingernail file, toenail clippers, your phone charger, the remote, uh a pad and paper, Tylenol, paint patches, um, and let's not forget snacks. You know, the the snacks that everybody knows. Well, my grandchildren, they could come to my house and eat anything they want out of my pantry, but if it's on my table, I have to ask. Am I weird? Am I the only one that does these things? Somebody better let me know because I'm feeling kind of weird here. And this one. This one's this one's a doozy. Um, can we talk about these wild hairs? Now at my house, I have a huge mirror at my dressing area, and it's got LED lights built in all the way around, and when I turn that thing on, it lights me up like the runway at the airport. And I usually start and end my day there every day, whether I'm showering and getting ready, put makeup on, taking makeup off, I'm in this mirror every day. And not only that, but in front of this mirror, I have a double-magnified mirror, so I'm in my face every day. And I look at myself and I'm investigating and all these weird, you know, age spots and stuff that come up. Um but the other day I woke up and I took a shower and I went to the mirror, and right on my neck there was a gray hair that I swear was six inches long. Now, obviously it wasn't, but it was long. I'm thinking, did I miss that yesterday? I couldn't have. These things grow overnight. Like, I'm in the mirror and I ha I'm I'm good. The next day. Boom. It's like you drank Miracle Grow while you were sleeping or something. I I don't understand where they're coming from. I mean, the good news is I don't shave my legs as much, so I don't know what the connection is, but it just seems weird. Although I have to tell you, um, as a senior, there's a lot of benefits. Um I mean, you get away with a lot of shit when you're old. You can say whatever you want. Um you you can get away with so much. Um everyone offers you their seat, whether you're um waiting at a restaurant or on a bus or oh here, ma'am, would you like to sit down? I just think that's funny because I'm old, I'm 60, but I don't feel old. I know I look old and I'm I'm old, but I don't feel old. And when people treat me that way, I'm like, I must be getting old. Um, but it's funny when you get old, you're you're you're young at heart. You just it's so strange. But remember what I said too, you have to embrace these things and find the humor in it. Because if not, getting old and aging, all the aches and pains and the changes in your body, and it'll consume you. So sit back, relax, enjoy the ride, um, find the humor. Uh have friends your age so you can talk about things, compare notes, and you'll find the humor in it. Oh, and let's not forget the senior discount. You get a senior discount everywhere you go. I know at Ross on Tuesdays you get 10% off, so another benefit. So, just wanted to share those thoughts with you folks. So, thanks for uh watching. Uh, hopefully, you're gonna follow, share, subscribe. Uh we I always appreciate that. It helps my channel. So, uh, until next time, take care of yourself and each other, and God bless you. Have a good day.
