Welcome everybody to The Vine and the Veil, the podcast where we dive between worlds to reveal the mysteries of the light and the dark, the wisdom of the spiritual, the wonder of the mystical, and the power of the supernatural. I'm your host, Carlos, and this is my co-host, Maria. And today we've got an awesome topic. We're gonna talk about spirits and superstition a little bit there. Uh we're gonna go into uh our childhood because I think there's there's something pretty interesting about how we grew up. Um number one, my you know, we grew up in a very strict Catholic household, but our mother uh was very superstitious, and it turns out that her mom was a curandera and really helped in you know in the in the in the town in Oaxaca, helped people through herbs and getting rid of spirits and all of that. So there's like a whole her parents were also into that craft. Yes, and then on our father's side, uh his mother was very much into uh discerning spirits and things like that. So we come from a line of of people who uh delved into that into that world. So yeah, let's let's get started. I don't know. Let's let's talk about what's the what's one of the the scary stories that you remember?
SPEAKER_00The stories that I remember, um, there was the one that I think it might have been like for both of us the scariest one and for our sister as well. So our mom told us about a story of an L. So in witchcraft, you know, there's the stories that people can shape shift into different animals. Um, so in this story, her my our mom's great-grandmother and great-grandfather ended up having a story where there was a woman who was a witch, known in town, that decided that she um had vengeance, she wanted vengeance against that family, right? My mom's great-grandparents. So she um turned into a witch and started flying. I'm sorry, she turned into an L, not the witch. She is a witch, she is a witch, but she turned into a witch. She turned into an L and started um flying in and attacking them at night. And um in order to combat her, this is where it starts to get a little weird. Um, one of the things in order to fight her off that they had to do was our great-grandfather peed on a stick because a pee, I guess, is like holy water somehow. I don't know. Ped on a stick and then clobbered the L down to where it fell. They captured this L and put it in in my mind as a child, they said in a barrel. So I'm assuming it looked like kind of a wine barrel. Yeah, a big barrel. I don't know. I imagined a big barrel. You imagined a big barrel as well. So they put her in there, but somehow the wing got caught.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Got caught in where they like sealed it. So then the next day they keep it in there, they go to bed, I guess. The next day they wake up and there's a woman in the bucket, and her hand was pinched off by the barrel. That was a creepy ass story.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Did I did I retell it? My was my memory.
SPEAKER_03Your retelling was actually pretty good. There's something interesting about that too, because uh dad, dad would tell me uh about one of the, I guess, out in the were the area that we grew up in, one of the dream homes, and there's a lot of people that that hang out there at night. And one of the guys, I I I I I think he was um where my grandfather lived, he lived with this lady, one of their sons, would hang out and drink at night. Right, and one of the ladies that lived there was reportedly a witch. And so one night they were out drinking and they saw her walk out and turn into an owl and fly away.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, wow, I never heard that.
SPEAKER_03And so that was one that was like, okay, so mom told the story about the the owl, you know, that one, and then this guy told a story completely different about this lady turning into an owl and flying away.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_03So there might, there might be something to do with that.
SPEAKER_00There might be something to that.
SPEAKER_03Maybe they're shifters, maybe they're maybe they figured out how to, or maybe it's just their presence in some way. Who knows? But that's that's kind of a that's kind of scary. Yeah, for sure. In our in our minds growing up, superstitious like that. Oh, I guess it's pretty bothered.
SPEAKER_00I guess. What about yours?
SPEAKER_03What's one of the scary ones that uh so um we grandmother, our grandmother gave us this portrait and it was this portrait of a dog. Uh I think it was a it was a cocker spaniel, and it was inside of a little box, like a present, like it had popped out of a present. And she gave it to us, and we were like, Oh, that's pretty cool, you know. Give it to us, it's cute, whatever. So dad hung it uh at the far end of the living room. And it just had this weird sort of vibe to it, and there's just something not right about the painting. Well, anyway, so you know, we're we're off doing our thing, and you know, one night we're looking at it and it's late. Again, you know, when you think about witching hour, it's late, it's you know, past midnight, and you look at it, and it doesn't look like a dog anymore. It's the face of an old man, like an old, old native man sort of thing. So we freaked out and we're like, oh my god, do you see that? Or like, oh shit, it looks like an old man. So we took it and we hid it behind the television because we're like, hey, we're gonna put this behind the TV. We don't want to see no old men. This is kind of a little crazy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, when the lights went off, that picture totally, or even in shadows, like that picture totally morphed into a man. That was so creepy, super creepy.
SPEAKER_03So we forgot about it, right? We're like, you know, we just stayed behind the television. So one day we're playing and we're just running in and out around the house. And as we're running, we're coming around the corner, and sure enough, this freaking painting comes out behind. Looks like somebody took it and rolled it out, and it landed right in front of us. And we're like, oh my god, how did this? I mean, it was tucked behind the television.
SPEAKER_00It was tucked behind the television.
SPEAKER_03It's like somebody took it out, pulled it out, and let it roll, and boom, it falls in front of us.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_03Dad took it outside after that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, lived outside until he gave it to her.
SPEAKER_03And lived inside until we give it back to grandma again, and then she took it back into her house, and it not last time we went to visit, it was back outside again.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So there was something there.
SPEAKER_00There must have been something there.
SPEAKER_03I think there's some residual energy that was tied to that painting that just it was it was a little creepy.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes you have to be careful with the gifts that people give you, even if they're family. And it could have been something that she in nothing that might have been malintention from her because she could have picked it up in a thrift store. You never know, but there are attachments to things.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, that's why picking up antiques or things like that, there's always energetic attachments to those, so just you know, be a little careful.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say his isn't necessarily like a story that we were told, it's something that was a very good thing.
SPEAKER_03That was an experience, yeah. That was an experience.
SPEAKER_00Which is interesting. Um, but that's not saying that like what the story that we were told from mom wasn't true about her great-grandparents. It could have been. There were so I mean, the I don't want to say like third world countries, but like the more remote you get into countries, I think there's a lot more superstitions.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00One of the other things that I remember that she told us was that there was a death carriage that would come. I can't remember death carriage or death train, or there was a version of both. So there was a death carriage that would come by anytime that um somebody in the town would pass away, they would hear the death carriage and they would see the black horse, and there was nobody, there was nobody like pushing the horse along, but they then the next day somebody would have died. Like they would have not found somebody that had passed away that night. So that was interesting.
SPEAKER_03That's another one that's just like that.
SPEAKER_00Gives you the chills. And then the story, and this guy actually is still alive. So my parents' family's home was across the street from this person's store. So he hadn't he was uh he had a store, but he also delivered items to people. He supposedly was delivering something late at night, and he was crossing a bridge and supposedly ran into the devil. Now, up to this point, this guy had a full black head of hair, like full black head of hair. But upon returning, he had such a fright after seeing the devil or whatever demonic monstrous creature that he had seen that he got really sick and his hair turned white. I can attest that even as a kid, he had white hair.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And even seeing him, what, like five years ago, still alive, had white hair.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that was that was super interesting.
SPEAKER_00That was kind of interesting. I'm not sure like whether or not like was something his eyes playing a trick on him, and he thought he saw something, but it was still enough to like create a fright enough to just turn his hair white, or did he see something that's like your hair is now white?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I remember mom told the story about because um her mom used to go to try to help people, right? And and what it was removing spirits or you know, helping the sick people or whatever, and she was on a on her way to help somebody, and she took my grandpa with him, she took our grandfather with him, and she said that uh at some point in the trip, because they were in a super rural area, remote area where there was not a lot of light or whatever, but she saw somebody over there and she's like, It's the devil. It's the devil, quick, light a cigarette and blow smoke at it. And so he did. Grandpa took out a cigarette, lit it up, and blew smoke at it at it, and it disappeared. But before it disappeared, it clawed him. Yeah, three marks on it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And I'm just like, What? What kind of that is that is a that is a pretty crazy story. So again, I think there's something to be said about the rural areas, right? Correct. Because there's that other story that's kind of similar to La La Yorona, yeah. Over there, where uh men get randomly drunk and they're walking back home and they get tempted by this this girl that invites them home, and so they follow her, and she takes them into these bramble bushes. Yeah. And they wake up with, you know, just stuck all over the place because they're in the middle of these bramble bushes. So again, it's another one of those things where you're just like, well.
SPEAKER_00Did they really have an affair? And they're like, oh no, it was the banshee lady. It was a banshee lady her way with me.
SPEAKER_03So I had to jump in those bramble bushes. Right.
SPEAKER_00So the interesting thing about that is like it really doesn't matter where you're from. There's a little that story carries to different areas. So there um on the 101 in Northern California, there's something that's called Frog Mountain. So there's this lore about a frog witch that actually was the same thing. She was like a succubus. She would lure um men over to this, I think it's the Russian river that runs through there. I'm not sure, but there's like moving water that's by this frog rock. She lures them in, she would have their way with them, and then they would end up like cursed for life, like have really bad things happen to them afterwards. But that is, it's interesting that like super rural Mexico, Northern California, and God knows how many other places, like we've all heard of the succubus. Are they the succubus in different continents or different parts of the world?
SPEAKER_03Maybe there's maybe there's energy, that type of energy that exists that that's just it's created to do that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you don't really hear that many stories of succubuses mainstream, I think.
SPEAKER_03No, no, no, not not as much. But those are interesting when you when you start delving into those, you're like, whoa, that's that's kind of wild. I was thinking about the time because there were there's our house was definitely there was energy uh uh whether it's a poltergeist or you know, spirits or whatever that were that were there. Because I mean there I remember one time we were we were sitting at the dinner table and we were talking about spirits and stuff, and the front door opens by itself. It opens up, dad goes to closes the door, and the in the kitchen we had cabinets, they start opening, and then the uh paper towel roll just starts unrolling itself.
SPEAKER_00And we're like, what our ghost loved the opening cabinets, like that was one thing openings, you just would we would come home and the cabinets would be open. It was so crazy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, there were times where you'd be in the the sink and close to our our bedroom, uh you could hear footsteps at night, like people walking in around that area, and there were times where you're washing your face and you feel like somebody touches you on the shoulder.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I mean, things like that that would that would happen in our house that were kind of like you know, at first they were I guess they were kind of scary at first because again, growing up in a super religious household where everything that was unexplained was evil, you know, you kind of get scared. You're like, oh my god, something scary. Let me pray, let me do the things, holy water everywhere.
SPEAKER_00I don't think that it was necessarily always a bad presence because I only say that because there was something that used to happen to me all the time. Whenever something bad would happen to me, I would always see a shadow figure before. Like it was foretelling, like you need to prepare yourself because something's gonna happen. It's about to go down, and every single time, and I never associated it before that that was a thing. And I always was scared of it. But then as an adult in retrospect, you're like, you know what? Maybe it was like prepare yourself. Like it was a it was a forewarning that something was.
SPEAKER_03Get ready, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And honestly, like I kind of learned to just associate because of it, which was really interesting. But that is um, that was something that like stuck with me. But as an adult, I was I was like, you know what, maybe that wasn't a bad thing because it didn't necessarily feel bad, but I was scared of it because it was something, it was just like the typical, like, imagine a ghost that's painted white, the typical sheet ghost, but it was all black. And it was transparent, but it was all black. So that was interesting that um that would happen to me. Um, the one thing I do remember is when we were having, it was like maybe dessert, late night snack, whole family at the dinner table. Our parents always we always had dinner at the table. We would have conversation, mostly a lot of intellectual conversation at the dinner table. And we would um there was one time we were doing that late at night. I don't even remember what we were talking about, but then all of a sudden, the first time like I saw a ghost, not the shadow figures, was during this time, and I saw three um silhouettes that were transparent, but I clearly saw the eyes, the nose, and the mouth. And they were three different heights, which was really interesting. And I like went pale. My dad's like, Are you okay? And I like had no words. I was like, uh, I I see a ghost. And then my dad, like, his face went pale because he's like, I see it too. Yeah, we saw so we all saw it together, and I still get chills right now thinking about it.
SPEAKER_03It was interesting because when you when you think about that, they the those that energy was just watching, just listening to the conversation that we were having. Yeah, and it was really funny because as as things things started really picking up when we we were teenagers, yes, and they say something about the chaotic hormonal energy of teenagers. Yeah, your your your energy is is all over the place and it it attracts other energy. Yeah, and what was super funny is the lady that we bought the house from, she was really superstitious. She had paintings on the walls, and she told us, I still remember this one that we moved into the house, she told us, she's all don't move into this house. There's a lot of energy here, it's haunted. And my dad's like, eh, yeah, you know, I believe that. My dad had a hard time believing in any of that stuff until later. We're actually started seeing some things. But yeah, I mean, fast forward to the time where we were teenagers and how it that energy picked up and then eventually just kind of it fizzled out for sure. Although, although we were I was just over there and I was talking with my dad and his his new wife. And uh I was asking them, you know, have have has anything happened since since you've been making changes to the place? Has anything happened? And she's like, Oh, you know, not and you know, at first I heard some things, and then um nothing super crazy, but I was actually painting the bathroom in uh my dad's room. Uh she was painting the bathroom, and she sees um sandal marks on the ceiling uh of where she was painting. Like chunkless, yeah, chunkless, like sandal marks on the ceiling, walking on the ceiling like that.
SPEAKER_00That's creepy.
SPEAKER_03And so she screams at my dad, and she's like, What what why did you do this? You mean because she thought he was he was trying to kill flies or something up on the ceiling, and he was over in the other room. He's like, What are you talking about?
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03He didn't do it. Yeah. It was just whatever, whatever was around was making marks on the ceiling, like it was walking upside down, you know, all along the way. So that was kind of that was pretty creepy. That was a recent one.
SPEAKER_00That was recent. So another story that isn't ours necessarily, but it is something that happened to our sister that kind of ties into birds um with the L, or maybe like a generational thing with L's or birds in general, is that our sister, when she was probably a toddler, um, would always look at the window and see birds and say, bird, bird, bird, and be like super duper scared. And this happened so much that our mom, who was like anti-witchy things, ended up taking her to a witch to have a cleansing so she wouldn't have these issues.
SPEAKER_03And left her there for a day.
SPEAKER_00And left her there for a day. So our poor sister, God only knows what happened to her. I mean, I would hope it would be all good. Um, but she was left with this lady after everything is said and done, she's given back to our mom, and that whole her seeing birds anymore was completely gone. Yeah, that is so crazy on so many levels. The fact that mom left her with a stranger.
SPEAKER_03And who knows what kind of rituals or whatever were done? I don't know.
SPEAKER_00She could have had been bladed, bathed in chicken blood for all. I don't know, I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I'm glad she doesn't remember any of that stuff. She doesn't remember it either.
SPEAKER_00That's kind of it's pretty wild. It's pretty wild.
SPEAKER_03Did you have any any occurrences happen in your room?
SPEAKER_00Oh, hell yeah. All the time. Like I slept with a little figurine of Saint Francis because he was my dude. I got a figurine out here still of him almostly because I love the story of how he lived his life. Like treating others the way you want to be treated. That's my vibe. Um, but he um I was always scared, like always had holy water in my nightstand, always had Saint Francis with me. As I got older, I ended up St. Francis got lost. I'd like to think that he went on to help another child, and I moved on to a rosary. But we would have things happen all the time. Knocks on the window. Um, we had Twinkie was one of my cats. I had cats, this first cat at 12 years old. My dad didn't like cats until my cousin gave it, gave me one for my 12th birthday. Um, and then he was pissed. But then after that, he loved having cats and started, he was the one bringing them home. Um, so we had Twinkie and my sister and I shared a room. So Twinkie was just relaxing on the bed. My sister and I are chatting. I want to say we're I'm probably like 11. She would be what 13 at the time. And we're chatting, having great conversation about how our day went or what we wanted to do on the weekend. And then next thing we know, we hear scratches on the wall three times. The Twinkie was already looking in that corner, and then next thing we know, the cat like springs straight up, ricochades from one wall to the other, and then runs right out the door. Whatever it was was scary enough for him to be like, I'm out. You you two are on your own, but I'm fucking out of here. That was one of the ones that I like clearly remember, but there were so many things that happened all the time. All the time.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I had a I had a real strange one, and this wasn't it scared me, but for different reasons, right? Um, it was it was late at night because I was always doing homework or doing stuff like that, and when I was finally getting ready to fall asleep, things would happen, right? Because you were starting to get relaxed, your awareness is starting to spread. Well, this one was was odd because it was so quiet. I still remember it to be so quiet, and I was getting ready to go to bed, and I look at the window, and I just started seeing this. I started, it's just such a faint hum that's coming from that the area outside the window, and then there's these multiple colors that are that are rolling multiple colors, and they just it just it just hovered there for a little bit. And I was afraid to keep walk walk over to like you know over the colour. Next thing you know, you're like being levitated and taken out the window. Stayed there for a little bit, and then it just I mean, in the in the in just like that. It was just like gone. And I was like, oh what did I just see? Because this was out of the you know, the the spiritual supernatural thing, yes, and kind of went into like the the UFO yeah, the UFO sort of phenomena, but who knows what it was because there was no drones back then.
SPEAKER_00There were no drones, no, no. And I mean, maybe in Daniel's theory, what like you and him are gonna be the supreme being, like they're gonna come down and say, You are the chosen ones.
SPEAKER_03You we've been watching you, you're now representing humanity.
SPEAKER_00Um, maybe they stop by and they're like, You're not ready yet.
SPEAKER_03I don't know, or they're just like, Hey, what what are you doing there? Why why are you you haven't yeah, not time yet? Okay, we'll be back later. Um what was super f interesting was mom had so many stories, and the correlation, and we talked about this in in a previous podcast, is that everything happens after dark.
SPEAKER_00Yes. And that after dark can be As soon as the sun goes down, with her stories, yes, but the cabinets in our house happened. No, that was that was everything in our house was like all times day and night.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. But I remember mom telling a story that was kind of a little it was a little freaky because we still went back to that town and stayed over at Papa Juan's house, which was kind of wild. But she said that her mom told her, When the sun goes down, don't don't leave the don't leave the area. Stay inside the fence, don't leave the area. And mom one night was not listening, so she stayed out late and was playing hopscotch.
SPEAKER_00You remember the story? Yes.
SPEAKER_03Where she was playing hopscotch.
SPEAKER_00It was still on the property, but there is a fenced area that there was this yes, yeah. Because of the neighbor, it's coming back.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_00The neighbor sold their soul to the devil. Do you remember that?
SPEAKER_03I remember that. Yeah. So anyway, she she's playing hopscotch and she's looking down and hopping and hopping and hopping, and then she gets to the end, and there's somebody sitting there. And she says it's a little, it's like a gnome.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03A little gnome with you know with a hat and everything just sitting there watching her.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And it looks at her and she looks at it, and she just takes off running and goes to her mom.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And her mom, you know, does some things and you know, she's just like, I told you. I told you. I told you, don't go after dark.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Bad things happen after dark.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So that's I mean, honestly, like I I think there's probably some truth to that, but living here, having come from that history of like all these superstitions and lore, like you have to have curtains over your window, don't look out at night, which I know is like huge an Appalachian uh Appalachian f folklore as well. But for us, like I purposefully didn't want windows or curtains on my windows, because we're on like what 60 acres of land here, and I don't want to believe that there's anything here, so I choose not to have. I mean, there's a lot of freaking wildlife, but I don't know if there's anything more than that. But to be fair, um, our first days here, my husband and I swear that we both saw each other, so like a doppelgang doppelganger. His was like me in the house walking towards the kitchen when I was actually in one of the bedrooms. And for me, I was working on the chicken coop, and he was working on building the chicken coop, but I was on the inside part and he was building out the outside run, and I swore I saw him walk by um the inside of the barn, and I was like, What are you doing here? And he was like, Are you talking to me? And I can hear him from far away. And I was like, I did not just see a freaking ghost here. So my remedy to that, because I'm like, okay, spirits, I know there's old things that live on this property, old energies. I ended up getting obsidian because there's actually a lot of obsidian around here, natural obsidian, and I put it in the four corners. And then for my chickens, because I wanted them to be protected, but us to be protected as well, I ended up making onk symbols on their four corners of their home so they could be protected against spirits, but also be protected against any kind of wildlife attacks. They have Fort Nox, they're like I've yet to lose one. Yeah, they're good, which they're good. Um, but yeah, and then of course I cleansed the house. Like I cleansed the house, I sm I smudged it with sage, I used holy water, St. Michael, Incantations, and all the things, blessings, like we can blessings, you name it. I did it so far. Like, do you feel anything weird in there?
SPEAKER_03No, no, no, no. I and honestly, I have a theory about the the doppelganger thing.
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03I think you were you overlapped with uh another timeline.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's interesting.
SPEAKER_03So I think that there was another timeline, another version of you that was doing something at that point, and the two timelines kind of overlap for a period of time. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Is that kind of like deja vu too?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Interesting.
SPEAKER_03So that's that yeah, because I mean I think a lot of people attribute that to like ghosts and spirits. Might not be. Might just be you happening to ghosts. And I think that's another uh that could be another explanation for how people, when they see shadows and stuff, right? Could be a parallel dimension that you're kind of slightly overlapping with.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_03I mean, it's it's possibility. Yeah, it's it's super interesting. But I've never I've never felt anything. And I think it's like like we talked about before, it's tied to belief. Yes. If you believe that something is in existence, that your projection in reality will reflect that.
SPEAKER_00We did have one other experience here. So when my sister um and her boyfriend came to visit, it was really weird. We were eating on the backs or the side yard, um, and all of a sudden, like we're talking. I don't even remember what we were talking about. I don't think it had anything to do with spirituality. But the next thing I know, we hear a grell, like that was maybe within 10 feet of us. And I kind of ignored it because I tried to ignore those things, and she likes like, Did you hear that? And then she asked her boyfriend and she asked Daniel, and they're like, Oh, yeah, we all heard it. And I was like, I heard it, but I ignored it. But that was the one and only time. Like, I never after that like heard anything, and I don't think she has ideas.
SPEAKER_03I think energies follow her. I think they're because there was one there was one time where they she spent the night over at uh at our old house in Libya.
SPEAKER_01Thanksgiving.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, before that. Oh, before that, and um I was coming downstairs early in the morning, like super early, and I hear little kids, little kids, little girl kids voices. And I was like, okay, you know, this is not I've never heard this before, this is not that. And so I I told her later, I'm like, who are you bringing? Who are who's attached to you?
SPEAKER_00But what if that all comes from whatever happened to her as a toddler?
SPEAKER_03Maybe, who knows? Like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Maybe whatever they did opened like her third eye and like sensitivity, and next thing you know, like spirits are following her around.
SPEAKER_03I don't know. I don't know. It was super, it was super interesting, but you're like, hmm, okay. That's uh that's uh that's a very, very strange one. But yeah, there's so many different stories.
SPEAKER_00There's stories and then there's superstitions, like there's so many superstitions, and again, the more rural, the more third worldly you get, the more superstitions are out there.
SPEAKER_03The people in in uh where my mom grew up in in San Pablo Wistepec in Oaxaca, uh, the black dog is a thing.
SPEAKER_00Oh, the black dog, yes, the the hound hell hounds of hell.
SPEAKER_03Hellhound. It's basically if you make a deal with a witch or a warlock and you don't pay up, they'll send the hellhounds after you to take paper until you pay up, right? So you get plagued basically by these hellhounds that'll show up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, my favorite were all the superstitions about the moon. Yeah, we all know that moon had the moon has a shit ton of energy. It's a thing, especially in hospitals. But I think it's everywhere, but we just get all the crazies and all the weird shit happens um in hospitals during full moons. It's there's a lot of truth to that. Um, but they was they were so superstitious were like you don't go outside during a full moon, which I'm like, I definitely want to be outside during a full moon. Beautiful outside or an eclipse, or you name it, like I am there. Um, but they were so hesitant about that. But like so many crazy superstitions. I remember in college, I was in a business law class, and I don't know how the professor got on a tangent about superstitions, and they were talking about like the craziest one, and somehow somebody was bringing up like you know, clarity. She wanted clarity of whether or not this superstition was real, and it was like, hey, if I if I'm pregnant and I take a bath, does that mean I'm drowning my baby? And like the whole class scoffed because, like, how do you not fucking scoff? It's basic anatomy, but mind you, this girl was probably very sheltered. Um, so she didn't probably didn't know all the anatomy down there. Um, and she was sincerely worried that if she took a bath, she would drown her kids. So we wow, we were able to bring some clarity there. Um, but yeah, that I mean, there's so many freaking superstitions there, and how many of them come from like not purposeful ignorance, but just the ignorance of being exposed to things, right? Right.
SPEAKER_03Speaking of college, because we went to the same college, did you have anything happen to you while you were not to me, but it happened.
SPEAKER_00I saw the remnants of something. So we had um a girl that lived on Stoffer Hall on the end dorm, um, second floor, left side, last one um of the main hallway. And she was weird, had weird energy, very hard for her to find friends, but she did have a roommate. The roommate was like, I don't know how much longer I can take. Like this girl is just has like really weird vibe, not kind of witchy vibe, but like loner vibe. Um they her energy was so much that they had weird shit happen. So I don't, again, like I don't know if it was something that was associated to her or if something just happened, but they used to have like their curtains opening and closing on them. And then I walked in, um, I was in their room when the faucets turned on on their own and we're like, oh my god. So yeah, I did that. Was the only thing that I did see there um that I actually experienced. But other than that, no, I didn't see the hallway ghosts like you did.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so I had a couple of other ones. The first one was um I had the my alarm randomly go off at 3 a.m. a couple times. Yeah. When I never said it for 3 a.m. And one time I unplugged it and it still went off.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So that was that was an interesting occurrence. I don't know, maybe it was a warning of some sort. I like to think that sometimes things like that happen because they're about to warn you of something.
SPEAKER_01You're correct.
SPEAKER_03Uh and then the other one was there was um there was a story of a caretaker who who uh used to take care of the college way back. And he just, you know, he he took care of the gym, he took care of you know different places, and he died on the property.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_03And so I think his name was Jim, if I remember right. Uh, but anyway, so people claim to have seen him from time to time. There was that guy, and then there was the guy that was responsible for taking care of the Shannon Center, which was the performing arts theater. Which which is a separate one. But I was going from Stoffer Hall, which is at the bottom of the of the property of the of the college, to Harris Hall, which is all the way up to the very top, right? And you have to pass the old gym. And this was late at night, and I'm walking up the up the ramp, up the stairs, and I get this just weird feeling, and the hair on the back of my neck starts standing up, and the hair on my arm starts standing up, and I and I look up into the corner, and I see somebody looking down on me from the gym, the one of the windows in the gym, right? And you know that that gym they turned into like an art area, right? It's all art. It's not the gym anymore. It's like it's it's repurposed. And there was somebody looking at me from there.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow.
SPEAKER_03And I I looked, and then I just kept I kept running up the stairs. And then the next day I had art class, so I went to go and see where that window was.
SPEAKER_00There's no way that you could be up there because it was like the the second story, all the art, and then on you'd have to you would have to levitate or have a really tall ladder levitate to get up there to see it.
SPEAKER_03But this person was like looking at me like this, and I remember them, they were just looking at me. That's creepy, and that kind of freaked me out. But those were the those are probably the only like really encounters that I've had aside from that other one that I had. But those are the only ones that were that I would remember from college.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I I can't remember I there's no other one that I had from college. That was the only one.
SPEAKER_03I had uh two encounters traveling overseas. You we mentioned that you know things change overseas. Yes. I was in I was in Taipei, Taiwan, and I was staying at the a place called the Grand Hyatt. And um one of my stays, I remember I was sleeping and I felt something come into the room. I felt just you could I just feel it, you feel that cold shift, and the energy changed in the room, and I felt something come through the door into the room. And as I'm laying there, I'm got my eyes closed and I can feel that, right? Next thing you know, I felt it was hovering over me.
SPEAKER_00Oh gosh.
SPEAKER_03Yes, and I was in a state where I was just like, oh my god, there's something, I'm not gonna open my eyes. I don't even want to know what it was going on. Okay, and I just kept saying inside of myself, I'm like, leave me alone. You don't you you don't belong here, it's time for you to go.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03And so it just disappeared after I did that. Because you have to kind of harness that that fear. Right. You can't be afraid. So, you know, uh, I come back another three months later, and this time I get an upgrade, you know, to a room, and so it has uh it has uh you know the living room and the bedroom. So I'm coming in, I'm getting ready to go to dinner, so I go take a shower and I'm going to wash my my face and all the lights turn off. And I'm like, what? How did all the lights turn off? Well, there's a master switch at the very front. The master switch just flipped off. Dang. I flip it back on, I go to try to wash my face, it shuts off again.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And I'm like, stop playing with me. Yeah. Leave me leave me alone. I'm trying to get ready to go to dinner. I appreciate the jokes, but they turn on the light and it and it stopped. But come to find out that hotel was built on top of an old concentration camp.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow.
SPEAKER_03Right, and apparently there was a lot of there was so much spiritual energy that was there that they hired a shaman to create these glyphs to keep the spirits appeased.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_03Right? So when you walk into the hotel, there's these small, but really intricate glyphs that are on either side of the of the walls of the hotel that are meant to basically keep the spirits uh at bay because there was so much spiritual activity. But it still happens from time to time.
SPEAKER_00Right. So you know how like trigger words make you remember things. So you said shower. That is creepy, creepy, creepy story. You said shower. That took me back to when I was a little girl. I must have been like maybe six or seven. Um, my mom was helping me wash my hair in the shower um in their bathroom, and then all of a sudden the light turns off and the water turns off. And mom's like, Cartho, that's not funny. And like, okay, so maybe he could have switched the lights off, but switching the water off. Yeah, you just don't turn the water off. So she got a tell and went out. He was actually making his coffee because the man loves coffee. Um, so that whole thing, when she came back, the water was back on again, but she had to turn the light switch back on. I do remember that, and it was around the time. Like, I guess I have to like look back on sometimes. I feel like some blood is watching me. That it was around that time frame. So you can only imagine like where my brain went. I'm like, okay, there's blood that's gonna start coming out of the shower, it's not water. But no, it was uh that was a fucking freaky experience. So scary, so so scary.
SPEAKER_03So yeah, we would love to hear any superstitions that you guys that you guys have or that have been prevalent in your family, or any encounters with spirits or any spiritual activity that you've you've seen or heard of. Because it's super fascinating. Everybody has, I think almost everybody has something that they've seen.
SPEAKER_00I actually, before we go, I do have one story talking about stories from other countries. This one actually wasn't a scary story, but it is a ghost story.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00So I was actually um in Italy. I did a tour that started um northern Italy and Como and went all the way to southern southern Italy. I think we went to Sorrento or Naples, I can't. Sorrento. Um, but in Assisi, because there was a stop in Assisi, so St. Francis correlation. Um, I the whole hotel that we stayed at there, then our first night, it was such a weird experience. I felt I was sleeping. I wake up, I feel a female energy, like I know there's a ghost there. I feel a female energy sits on the pillow next to me, starts cutting my hair. Oh no, no, no. But it was like a mother comforting. No, it wasn't freaked out. I wasn't freaked out, but it was so comforting. Like I sobbed like a baby because it was like such a sweet like feeling, and it was just like pure and like comforting cutting of my hair. I wasn't scared at all. It was like the only time I ever like had a ghost experience that didn't end up with me like oh sheets over my head, like, oh wanna see it. Um, but yeah, that happened. I was in like my 20s. It was a pretty cool experience, and then I was like, you know, do I share this with the people my friends that I'm traveling with? Probably not. They're gonna think I'm crazy. But I did share it with the family when I came home, so yeah, it would that was a good experience. So not every ghost story or energy story is gonna be a bad one.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think it's all relative in how you look at it, honestly.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_03But we'd love to hear what you guys have to think. So absolutely if you're if there's a cool story that either scary or nice, like that one, a nice, nice spirit. I really like that one, makes me feel good. It's a good way to kind of end the end the podcast.
