Maybe. So today we're gonna do a happy Father's Day. Um, we wanted to do it based on dad's or set around Father's Day. We wanted to have it out by Father's Day or on Father's Day, but we think we're doing pretty good so far, like hitting hitting our uh, you know, the amount of times we want to record. So it'll be a little bit late, but it was important for us to do this. So we're doing our best dads in horror, basically, right, Kaya?

When have you ever seen a movie like the? I don't know. That's what I was. Alright, anyway. My first movie choice is Talk To Me, 2022. Can you believe that that was that long ago? It doesn't really seem like that.

You're right. It doesn't feel like it was four years ago, but you you probably are right. I mean, 2022 sounds because we saw the second movie that that director did, bring her back. Remember, we saw that in theaters.

Okay, but I think that first of all, it's a really good movie. If you haven't seen it before, it's a great movie. Um, it's also kind of I think something we haven't really necessarily seen before this. Um, but in terms of talking about the father figure in that movie, um, you're kind of looking at an act of dad, which I feel like either you get or you don't get at all when it comes to horror. I feel like you often see either like, oh, my dad died in a car crash or something. So the dad's like written out completely.

Yeah, it's like it's just like a plot trigger to you know, in the beginning of the movie or something like that. Yeah, I know what you mean.

Like, I feel like we don't really see a lot of like active fathers in horror.

You're right. I'll be honest, this list was hard. It wasn't hard to maybe like find stuff because I I cheated, I did my movies, you'll see two of them are just Father's Day. I don't know if they necessarily have good dads or like a good father. I I think we tried to go for like best dads in horror. You know what I mean?

Yeah, baddest daddies in horror. No, that didn't sound bad. What I baddest daddy, I don't know. You ever say something you're like, come back? But uh talk talk to me is super unique. I love the hand thing. It it also has a found footage angle, but they don't overdo it in the movie, you know what I mean? It's played, it's played both ways because they play it from like a uh, you know, from a filmmaking technique, they have you see it just as like a normal movie, I guess if you want to call it that, but then they also have like the found footage because they're going around grabbing this hand and it basically gets them to see a dead person, right?

Yeah, and it's uh it's like this dare that they do at these parties, and it's uh which count me the fuck out.

They do a good job like having it kind of grounded though, because you're like, Yeah, I don't I don't think I'd want to participate in this, but it's almost like that would kind of be what would happen if a kid like just got this weird ass hand and they found out, you know, if like a 16-year-old group of kids talking about they could do that, you know that's like what would happen.

Oh, for sure, yeah. And then like finding out like the different rules and stuff, like you know, they have like their time limits and whatever, but yeah, like going back to the to the dad in the movie, I think you know, you're watching him actively try to reconnect with his daughter to the point where you're kind of you know, like really rooting for this dad. Like he's trying to be very active, and isn't her name Mia, I think trying to be very active in Mia's life, and just you know, like trying to get her back on track after her mom committed suicide. And um, you know, it just it gets to the point where he quite literally tries to help Mia so much and is so present that you know he he loses his life literally to Mia.

Right. Yeah. I mean, um, and and you're right. I I think you had mentioned this to me maybe in passing about this, or maybe did you text it to me yesterday that you're doing Talk to Me?

Before I think I did even now when you just said it, or before we started recording, I was like, that's a that's a great one. Because I really didn't think I don't know, I don't remember you saying that for whatever reason. That's a good one. It really is. And talk to me just to say a little something about the directors. That's the brother team, Danny and I have it right here. Danny and Michael Philippu. They're from Australia. And they're another team like I'm excited about. You know what I mean?

Like, yeah, it was really good. It was really good. I think even when I was like doing a little bit of research, Talk To Me is still standing out like 94% or something on Ron TV.

That doesn't surprise me. It's a great, I mean, that's their future film debut. They they were YouTube guys making like weird, I shouldn't say weird, but they were making like horror, like I remember like Mortal Kombat, like fight style videos on YouTube. And then yeah, they got discovered. I think I don't know if they did a short or something, but they got discovered and that's how they got the funding for Talk to Me. I also like I love it when people keep it home, you know, like homegrown. Um, Talk to Me was filmed, I believe, like with all Australian actors, and so is Bringer Back, I think in Australia. I'm not sure if it was filmed in like New Zealand or whatever, but yeah, that I I'm not sure with that one.

Yeah, yeah. There's a lot of great really good scenes in Talk to Me. I think the only thing we Oh and the table. Yes, and the table. Bring her. Did you like um did you like Talk to Me or Bring Her Back more? Do you remember Talk To Me? Okay, I think I do too.

I liked Bring Her Back. I did like it actually. I don't really have any like really negative notes. I just feel like I enjoyed Talk to Me more.

There are I'm dying. I am dying. Okay, so but I I mean, it's just it's it's first of all, The Shining is like such a great horror movie. I can watch that today and just be like, like the camera angles, the the wide shots, the sets, the sets. I mean, it's it's iconic. Jack Nicholson is iconic. Um, it's just he there's so many scenes like him crashing through that door, that thing's I mean, crashing through that uh thing with the axe and yeah, putting his face in the door, and you know, putting his face in here's Johnny. I mean, yeah, that's it's well it's iconic.

People literally still use it in just like day-to-day language now.

Yeah, it's been parried in probably that scene as far as like in a scary movie sense, it's not been tried to have been copied and redone so many times just because it's like she said, it's iconic. Um, but yeah, I mean 1977 was the novel, movie 1980. It still holds up today. Um, and he just it's like it's his descent into madness, you know? Right. Um and it another thing is I I love like certain scenes or certain places, like the hotel, it's just such a I don't know, you don't see that nowadays where all these sets are built. Like you really felt like which it did, but like the Overlook Hotel is an actual place. Yeah, it was actual place, it was actual part of the movie. I believe it is. I don't think they because that thing was just so giant and amazing, and like that that's part of what makes the movie amazing for me is that that hotel. It's like a labyrinth.

Yeah, he just looks like a beach ball, but he's hilarious, and yeah, it was 90 Day Fiance. Oh my god, I just remember watching that. I just thought it was hilarious.

We did I didn't for the second one though. The second one I went to go th see in theaters. But um, the black phone is following essentially a family and the son ends up getting kidnapped. The dad in that movie is actually a main character because their mom passes away. Um, but he's a main character for much of the movie in a negative way. Um, he's basically like portrayed at the portrayed as this like grieving alcoholic. And he's basically like kind of like not kind of, he is, I guess emotionally abusive as well as physically abusive. Um and you get to kind of watch him like spiral almost because his son goes missing and they don't know where he is. And you kind of watch him throughout the movie essentially, like I guess kind of make his comeback. Because if you remember, like it starts off and you're like, wow, this guy's a dick. And then like as the movie goes on, you kind of start to feel for him and like what he's feeling, and then like you continue watching it, and then at the end, he actually just kind of like redeems himself by apologizing to the kids.

Yeah, no, you're right. He does do a good job in that movie, and I think he's obviously like tortured by the fact that you know, us as the audience and him as a father realizes he probably wasn't the best dad, you know, that he could be, and then that's why he's trying to come back from that, you know, uh in the latter part of the movie and you know, get his son back, obviously.

And then you watch him, I guess, be like paranoid, which you kind of don't understand, I guess, until like let's say maybe like midway through the movie with Gwen, the daughter, she's having like all of these visions, and she keeps trying to explain to her dad that she's getting like little breadcrumbs of where her brother is, and the dad like progressively just gets like more annoyed because their mom is it does she kill herself, I guess?

Right, and I think the dad was just very paranoid about that because he watched his wife's descent into what he bel he believed was madness.

Yeah, well, he's definitely an abusive alcoholic. I mean, that's not hidden, but then his wife, yeah, his wife died by suicide. I just found it of having a because during you know, a series of disturbing psychic dreams, which everybody just thought she was crazy.

I remember seeing the trailer for the second one, and I was like pumped because I I don't know, it reminds me of curtains, if anybody's ever seen that. It's like a slasher movie from the 80s, but they have this great, great, I'm so sorry about that noise. That was me with a coffee cup. Um, they have this great ice rink scene where like the slasher is like going after this girl on in like this I don't know, like this like ice rink out in like the forest. And it's like super awesome. I just love that scene. And I don't know, I remember watching the scene or the trailer for the second one. It like takes place in the winter, and I just remember it looked doesn't something happen in like a skate rink or like on ice? That's what I mean. It reminds me so much of that. And I just I always wanted to like know if they if they bit that from curtains because I don't know. To me, it's an iconic slasher scene. But I I really do. I'll see. I'm sorry, I'm disappointing. I haven't seen Blackphone 2.

I feel like with movies like that, it's like it's great to do a sequel because it got like the first movie got so much hype and it did so well. But it's like, I don't know, you if you're gonna bring it back, it'd be cool, but let's not reinvent, you know, what what made it good the first time.

Speaking of, let's talk about this because I don't want to forget and talk about it. We just before we started recording. Started talking about another movie that we just realized is 10 years old. What was that, Kaya? Holidays. Holidays. Holidays is like an anthology movie, and it's all based on holidays.
