At Mexico City's iconic Estadio Banorte, known to generations of supporters as the legendary Estadio Azteca, a major technology transformation has taken place, creating what AV Pro Edge believes is the largest SDVOE video over IP network ever deployed. Built around the company's MX Net 10G SDVOE platform, the installation has created a single stadium-wide AV network capable of distributing synchronized high-resolution video across more than 500 displays and over 20 large format video walls throughout the venue. For AV professionals, it's a powerful demonstration of how modern AV over IP technologies are reshaping large-scale content distribution.

Designing Perfectly Timed Video

Opened in 1966 and standing more than 2,200 meters above sea level, Estadio Banorte is the largest stadium in Latin America and the only venue to have hosted two FIFA World Cup finals. Preparing the venue for the next generation of events required far more than simply adding new screens. The challenge was to create a unified video infrastructure capable of delivering perfectly timed content across an enormous footprint. Every display throughout the stadium needed access to live match coverage, instant replays, wayfinding information, and branded content, all with minimal latency and consistent image quality. Meeting those demands required a highly scalable and resilient network architecture.

10G Endpoints And 100G Core

To achieve this, AV Pro Edge MXNet. 10G SDVOE transceivers were deployed behind every display, connected to a high-capacity backbone built around MXNet, 100 gigabit core switches, and MXNet access switches. Dual high availability controllers provide system redundancy, ensuring reliable operation even in the event of a hardware fault. The result is a platform capable of routing virtually any source to any screen across the stadium while maintaining the responsiveness expected in a modern live sports environment. The project was delivered through a collaboration between several organizations, with Pop Media acting as lead integrator, Duozon serving as AV Pro Edge's distribution partner in Mexico, and Polaris Controls providing local support and representation throughout the deployment.

Lab Build Before Site Install

Interestingly, one of the most critical phases of the project took place before a single piece of equipment arrived on site. According to AV Pro Edge, engineers recreated the entire system within the company's laboratory, spending a week building the network and a further two weeks conducting full integration testing. This allowed the team to verify performance, identify potential issues, and validate the design before installation began inside the stadium. That level of preparation proved particularly valuable on a project of this scale, where commissioning windows are often tight and deadlines non-negotiable.
