Rack space is getting tighter, but clients still want that “proper hi-fi” feeling and that’s why we’re digging into Emotiva Audio’s new Differential Reference (DR) Stack, now confirmed for UK availability via Karma AV. If you design or install systems for media rooms, secondary zones, or anywhere full-width separates are a pain, this compact modular range is built to make your life easier without downgrading the sound.
We walk through what the stack actually is: a DRP-1 pre-amplifier, DRA-1 power amplifier, DRD-1 DAC, and an optional DRS-1 streamer DAC. The common thread is a fully balanced signal path designed to cut noise and keep dynamic range intact, plus installer-friendly details like consistent chassis styling, dimmable OLED displays, and 12V triggers. We also highlight the DRP-1’s 80 Hz bass management for simpler subwoofer integration, and the DRA-1’s power figures including a bridging option for more demanding loudspeakers, backed by audiophile-leaning published specs.
On the digital side, we break down the DRD-1’s ESS-based conversion and its support for high-resolution playback up to PCM 768 kHz and native DSD512, plus HDMI ARC for straightforward TV audio integration. If streaming is the brief, the DRS-1 adds a lifetime Volumio Premium licence with multi-room control for up to six zones, along with Connect support for services like Qobuz, Tidal and Spotify, making it a serious contender for modern network audio installs. We finish with UK pricing for each module and what to expect from August.
If you find this useful, subscribe for more CI news briefs, share the episode with a colleague, and leave us a review. Where would a compact balanced hi-fi stack solve a problem in your next install?

Inside CI News Brief Welcome
SPEAKER_00Welcome to the Inside CI News Brief for Friday, 31 July 2026. The latest custom installation news in minutes for busy integrators and industry professionals.
Emotiva DR Stack UK Availability
SPEAKER_00A compact new stack music system is bringing Emotiva Audio's audiophile engineering into smaller rooms. Karma AV has confirmed UK availability of the Emotiva DR stack.
Compact Chassis And Install Use Cases
SPEAKER_00The modular music system is available in a chassis only two-thirds, 267 mm width. The size of full width separates and comprises the DRP1 pre-amplifier, DRA1 power amplifier, DRD1 DAC, and DRS-1 streamer. Typical applications would be media rooms, secondary zones, and installations where full-width electronics are impractical. Each unit shares the same steel enclosure, black anodized aluminium faceplate, and dimmable OLED display.
Fully Balanced Design And Build Details
SPEAKER_00The design centers on a fully balanced signal path from input to output, reducing noise and preserving dynamic range.
DRP1 Preamp And Sub Integration
SPEAKER_00The DRP1. Differential reference preamplifier is engineered around a short differential signal path with sealed relay switching and a studio grade resistor ladder volume control. Internal base management at 80 Hz simplifies subwoofer integration. Connectivity includes RCA and XLR inputs, a moving magnet slash moving coil phono stage, and both balanced and unbalanced outputs, plus a summed XLR subwoofer feed.
DRA1 Power And Audiophile Specs
SPEAKER_00The DRA1 differential reference amplifier delivers 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, rising to 130 watts at 4 ohms and can be bridged to 400 watts for more demanding loudspeakers. Emotiva specifies a signal-to-noise ratio above 115 dB and THD plus N below 0.008%. Figures that place the DRA1 firmly in audiophile territory despite its compact footprint.
DRD1 DAC Formats And HDMI ARC
SPEAKER_00For digital sources, the DRD1 differential reference. DAC employs the ES SES 9038. Q2M SABA 32 converter with selectable filters and a differential analog stage built around low-noise OPA1656 and OPA1678 opamps. USB supports PCM up to 768 kHz, DOP256, and native DSD512. Balanced and unbalanced outputs are provided, along with HDMIARC for TV audio.
DRS1 Streaming With Volumio Multi-Room
SPEAKER_00Buyers wanting streaming capability can opt for the DRS1 differential reference streamer slash DAC, which combines the same ESS DAC architecture with a lifetime Volumio Premium license. This supports Kyobuz Connect, Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, and Internet Radio, as well as playback from local storage. Multi-room control for up to six zones is available through Volumio. Outputs include balanced XLR, RCA, optical and coaxial digital audio with Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB plus HDMI for track info, or UI on TV or monitor for configuration and display. All components include 12 volt triggers and both the DRD1 and DRP1 chip with matching metal remote controls.
Pricing, Distribution, And Where Next
SPEAKER_00Available from August, expect to pay £740 retail for the DRP1 preamp, £850 for the DRA1 amplifier, £740 for the DRD1 DAC, and £850 for the DRS1 streamer. Distribution is via Karma AV.
