Mysteries of Mythology - From Darkness Into Light
In this segment of ‘From Darkness Into Light,’ we will follow Percy Jackson in his journey with the Olympians. We will have a slightly different take on this series since Mikaela has read it multiple times while Candice only read the first 3 books once years ago. We will compare our perspectives as new (somewhat) and old readers. We will also look a little bit into the accuracy of Riordan’s mythology. Beware! This podcast will have spoilers.

Hello, welcome to Mysteries of Mythology. I'm Michaela. And I'm Candice. And we are coming into the Percy Jackson Rick Wyardon series, kind of looking at the books through a different lens. I'll get to that in a bit.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Because as a kind of refresher, since we stopped Harry Potter kind of mid-series and we're jumping into a new series, we're actually going to be first reading with you guys Fish in a Tree by Linda Muellery Hunt. And I messed up that last name, I'm sure. Sorry for that. But it is a story about a girl with dyslexia. And we thought that would be a very interesting conversation since I have my master's in dyslexia.
SPEAKER_00And then we have dyslexia. So we thought it would be a good palette cleanser and a good way to kind of start off looking into the Rick Roydon series with a little bit more like focus on dyslexia since it's such a big theme in the Rick Royordan universe. And it'll be a little bit different, too, because unlike the Persia Jackson series, which I have read hundreds of times, that's not true. I've read it um a dozen times, and then with the original series and the second series, I've almost read twice. So as we get further into the books, both of us will be newer readers. But in the beginning, I've read the first one a lot. But I have never read Fish in a Tree, whereas Candace has read this book before. So it'll be a little bit different dynamic than usual.
SPEAKER_01And like plus with our different backgrounds, it'll be interesting to hear both of our takes for Fish in the Tree. And it'll be fun for Percy Jackson as well, since Michaela has read the books, so she knows more than I do. Because I read it years ago, and I only got to book three because that was the book that, like the last book that was out at the time, and then I just stopped and I forgot to check back in on the series. So it's been years and I've basically completely forgotten about it. So it's basically like reading Percy Jackson for the first time, which is exciting. And then also, since I kind of I enjoy listening and like learning about mythology, I was also, as I was reading the first book, fact checking some of the mythology pieces, which will be fun conversations to have as well.
SPEAKER_00Yes. So that will be kind of what we're going into. We really look forward to having you guys on this journey with us. And with that, we're gonna stop recording and we're gonna move over to fish in a tree. See you guys there. Bye.
