It's a parade of buzzwords - serum, peptide, exfoliant, retinol, GLP-1. All these things are promising youth and perfection....but to keep it up, you have to be willing to invest your time and money FOREVER.

SPEAKER_01

You weave your way through a crowded Sephora, just needing that one product for fine lines you ran out of last night. You find the display, and as you reach for the last one, someone gets it before you. Someone who is sixteen. The target of starting anti-aging skincare is getting younger and younger. Serums, creams, and injectables are now seen as non-negotiables. Whereas when we were young, we didn't know if these products even existed. Peptides can fix your face, and they can fix those stubborn five pounds you've been trying to lose for months. Nobody's perfect. But now a lot of brands are claiming they can get you pretty close. So how much are you willing to spend on that? And are you okay keeping up that routine forever? This is Raging Gracefully.

SPEAKER_00

Hi guys. Hi everyone. Raging Gracefully is back.

SPEAKER_01

We're here. This is the podcast where two women in their 40s navigate a life that they were told they were already supposed to have figured out. I'm Ashley.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm Sue Haley. And we're gonna focus on this episode on body. Yes. Body, skin care, a little mix of both. Yeah, yeah. Our being. Oh gosh. So cute. When I was a kid, I didn't worry so much about any of this stuff. I know, I know. You didn't have to. No, but the kids now do. So I'm glad I'm not in that time. But I have a interesting, funny story, I guess. It's kind of I was at my son's baseball t ball, whatever. No game on Saturday. You know, the moms are up there and there's some dads. And I hear it the women talking about like peptides and how there's this new one that isn't like the other ones where you can't gain muscle. So of course I'm like, now they're making them where you could lose weight and gain muscle.

SPEAKER_01

And I didn't even realize the peptides is the words that people use for this, too.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, of course. But yeah. So peptides are naturally produced in our body, which is right. But what people don't know who want like a fast cure or you know, this could take months. Right. This isn't just like, oh, I'm gonna start doing it and in two weeks. I've heard people say that some women said it took them four months to see any change. Like and they have to take it every day? So a lot of them are injections. A lot of them are, they're not covered by health insurance. Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_01

And so it's an injection where? Like, do you know like is it face stuff, thigh, in your stomach? Like, I I don't know anything about this.

SPEAKER_00

So some are in your thigh. I think there's some of you too in your thighs, like right in the front of your collar. Sure. And it's like once a month? No. It's like wait. Every day. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_02

It's an injector.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, they have peptides are just oral pills. Sure. This is that new one they were talking about. Okay. I didn't know about this. Like I I don't know if you're new.

SPEAKER_01

No, no. When I think of peptides, all I know about peptides is there's two. And I know the one that's like in a powder form that you can take, like collagen. Collagen peptides come in a powder, and there's a couple different like versions you can put in some type of drink. We don't have to get into this now, but I had to I tried to take them. I got so bloated and nauseous, I had to stop. And it and I read online that it was like you could scale down how much you took. It didn't matter. It didn't matter how much. I I it did not agree with me. And then I know like I have um a serum that I use a couple times a week, which we'll also talk about later, copper peptides for your skin. But I like hearing, yeah, I didn't realize that this was also like a thing, like the injectable, like GLP1 type of stuff.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, the only reason that I guess people feel more comfortable doing it is because the body naturally produces that. Right. Okay. But they're injections, which turn off a lot of people. Right. I mean, I don't want to take an injection every day. No, I don't think I'd want to do that every day every day. You know, that doesn't sound like something I want to commit to. Yeah. But there's so many. There's fat burning, they're the ones that help you burn fat but gain muscle. Then there's the one that can attack certain areas. Like your midsection. I mean, it's just it's it's so many.

SPEAKER_01

Wait, so there's options that are getting that like specific?

SPEAKER_00

Specific. Yes. So what you do is you go to your gynecologist, um and she'll do blood work and you explain what areas is it that you want to work out that you're having a harder time, getting rid of. And it's almost like, okay, let's try this peptide with you if that's what's something you want to do. Some people just want to go on horn, like um testosterone. Sure, sure, sure. And then that's a whole nother thing too, because you can use a yell or a gel or a cream or injection. Yeah. The point is everything is just done without like actual working out or I mean they do part of the thing.

SPEAKER_01

It's like an instant yeah, it's really No, but also like you said, it's like an i even if it's four months, like that's still in the grand scheme of like losing significant weight, like that's pretty instant.

SPEAKER_00

Well, that's for like the a lot of the peptides. This is what I hear a lot of women. This is what I've read. The GLP stuff, which is very interesting to me because I did see like on social media, there's a couple of people that I follow and they talk about being on it. Mm-hmm. And one of them was talking about how like when it gets towards the end of the week, she has to take it every Sunday. Okay. Okay, so it's like seven days, she takes the new one. Sure. By Saturday, she's starting to get those cravings again where she wants to eat like normal. Like a yeah. Like a human eats, like they get hungry throughout the day.

SPEAKER_01

When your body is naturally telling you that you actually have to eat something.

SPEAKER_00

Because you know, and then so she like craves things and it once she does it again, she's back to like very minimal eating and she feels good again. And I'm like, okay, but like so then if you get off of this, it's a wrap. Like that's it. So here's my do they stay on it forever? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think so. I think ever and ever. You could they could be on this forever and ever.

SPEAKER_01

I think so. And that's what I think is like really worrisome to me. Like, it's hard because I'm just like, I don't like that people are getting on it so easily. Like, I don't I don't like that it's so easy to get. It bums me out that there's so many commercials for it, making people, especially women, I know that it can target men as well. So I don't want to like negate that fact, but you know that it's mostly geared towards women who are being made to feel that they're overweight. But it's also at the same time, like what's crazy is I think everyone can relate to when you're you are taking care of yourself and you are working out, and then you still can't lose like the last five to ten pounds, and you're like, well, what if I just took a fucking shot and then I did lose the five to ten pounds like I've been trying to for months? And then it's like then I understand when you hit this like point of just desperation where it's just like I do everything right. Why am I not what I think should be thin or in shape? And like it's just like I think it plays a mental game with you to be like, well, if there's a quick fix, right, where I can just lose that extra five pounds and actually look like how I think I want to look like, which then is like, will you look like how you look, or is it just like a rabbit hole of like never being enough? Like who knows?

SPEAKER_00

But that was my point. I was gonna say something. Is it ever enough? Because if something's working and it's starting to make you feel and look this fabulous way that you in your mind looking in your mirror, look, then when isn't it enough? Like it won't be. I don't think it is. I think that you just like crave more and more and more. Mm-hmm. It's a little slippery for me. I'm not I don't that scares me. Mm-hmm. Do you know I it scares me? No, it's yeah, sorry, go on, go on. I don't it almost feels like, and I hate to use this word, it's is it addictive?

SPEAKER_01

I I think that's fair.

SPEAKER_00

Right? I mean Yes. I know people don't like that word, but what else could it be if you don't want to stop?

SPEAKER_01

When everything around you now with social media, like everything is about image, everything is about what you're looking at. There's so much scrutiny over female celebrities about how thin or how not thin they are, that it's just like if everyone around you is like you have to look a certain way, like it does get to you. You know, you do start judging yourself against those people, even if you don't have the resources or the financial support to like look like them. You know, it's just it starts to be like, well, what is accessible to me so that I look away that I'm told I'm supposed to to be like successful and hot and attractive to other people if you're in the dating scene, you know, it's just like I think it's really worrisome. So this is something that happened yesterday. I was on um a shoot, and this gal who is 33 is getting Botox. Like I said, live your life. She doesn't need it, she looks gorgeous, she had beautiful skin, and she was like, she doesn't get a lot of it, but she's like, and I was like, I'm avoiding that as long as I can. She's like, well, you are supposed to start early. I was like, well, do are you? Or is that what they're telling you so they can sell you $300 of Botox every four months? You know? And I did say, I was like, well, they are trying to sell it to you, let's be real, you know? And that kind of like was the end of it, because you know, it wasn't like a confrontation, but I was just like, I don't know if I agree with this, you know? And I'm also just like, if that's what you want, that's what you want. But it is true that as soon as you stop doing it, if you're gonna start Botox at 33, like you are just kind of locked in until you don't until you want to look like how you're supposed to look like at your age. Because then you're gonna get to a point where you stop getting Botox and like you're gonna get the wrinkles that you naturally would have anyway.

SPEAKER_00

Then you're really gonna get scared.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because she's not gonna be used to what you look like. Yeah, what she looks like aging. And I'm like, I think you know, reversing aging could be fun and interesting and weird, but like at the same time, there's gotta be a balance.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

I I see what you just said a lot. I mean, over here in like so I'm in New Jersey, but you know, I lived in Brooklyn and Manhattan and the Bronx for years, so Yeah. I feel like the culture here, because you know, the New Jersey Housewives and all that stuff that I don't know. This like suburban like Botox is huge over here. Yes, of course. I mean it's huge everywhere, but I hear young girls talking about getting it, and I'm like, you don't even have wrinkles. So when you say preventative, I don't think that's true. I think they want you to fall into this and pay for this. Because what are they what where are they putting these injections in your face? Right.

SPEAKER_01

She was getting them under the eyes because she said she actually wasn't worried about because she said she had like pretty rough um like eye creases. Like I said, she didn't have them because she got it recently, so it's like you want to. Tell her to drink some water. I know. I and I'm also just like, you know what it comes down to is I'm also get hydrated, bitch. You know, like it's just let me help you. Give me the $300. Yeah. I was like, give me the $300. This is a super cute shirt and anthropology I want, you know, like yeah, but I just like I mean, that's my internet thought. Yeah. What bums me out is not that she's doing it, because I'm just like, yeah, whatever. If you're the money and you want to do it, fucking do it. But it's the fact that you think that you have to. And the fact that like it's society's becoming to like coming to a place where it's just like you feel like you're behind if you're not, or you're not enough if you're not. And I'm just like, man, that is just gonna like really ride on people's self-confidence, especially at a young age. As like you said, these young kids are like looking at preventative, young kids going into Sephora, getting all of these creams and serums, and they're 16, and it's like, this isn't this is actually not doing anything for you because you don't need these things.

SPEAKER_00

I blame the parents. I'm like, what are you doing? Why are you giving them money to do this shit? Come on. Don't let them do it. I don't know. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

They're all over, it's all over the internet, right? So they're just like seeing, they're seeing all the influencers talk about. We've talked about this that we like, we'll see an influencer be like, I love this skin cream, I love this, and you're like, Well shit. And then you look it up and you're like, I'm gonna try it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but then you know I'm old.

SPEAKER_01

Well, yes, but we're seeing the same thing that the 17-year-olds are seeing. So they also are like, I'm gonna get it. And they're not thinking they're I'm old, they're like, I'm gonna get it because this person that I follow and admire on social media does it.

SPEAKER_00

But I see eight-year-olds and 10-year-olds I'm thinking of. Well, they asked their moms to go to all time to foreign gift cards to go there and get whatever it is that they're getting, which is the skincare stuff, and they're putting it on their skin. I'm like, why don't you give me some of that? What are you using? What are you using that I could use?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like what is and also don't you want to spend your money on something else?

SPEAKER_00

I played with Barbies till I was 16 years old. Yeah. I know. Same. No one would believe that about me, but I did.

SPEAKER_01

I played with Barbies till I was 16 because you we had to have an imagination. Like old man yelling at clouds. I'm like, I imagine I remember a time when I had to create stories in my head and play on my bed with dolls.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I don't know if kids no imagination like that anymore. I don't know. I don't know what's happening, but I I don't I will say I see some women like younger than me, like ten years younger than me. Now, if Botox is done well and you go to someone really good, it can look like you didn't really get it done. Yes. Also, if you try not to freeze your face and you still allow movement, it can be very subtle. It could be a a treat you give yourself. Yes. And I love that. I think it think it's all fine.

SPEAKER_01

I just am sad at these like people in their late 20s, early 30s thinking that that's what needs to happen.

SPEAKER_00

And it's not where I spent my money at that time.

SPEAKER_01

Right. And it's just like you just are, you look gorgeous. Like, if you're gonna do it, just wait a minute, you know?

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. And I also think, like, okay, so they haven't perfected everything.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_00

I think the lip filler stuff, some of them I'm like, what doctor did you go to, girlfriend? Because Yeah. It's not looking good. Like, no.

SPEAKER_01

You have to do a reasonable. I think a lot of these things are like gonna end up biting people in the ass. I think the the peptides, the injections, I'm like, I know with these GLP one things, I'm like, I know a lot of them are medicine, is like they're like prescriptions for other things that made happening. OSEMPIC was made for a diabetes. Yeah, and so it's like a weight loss thing. And so it's just like, I know that it's been tested in a way that, like, yes, it's not gonna technically hurt anyone, but I'm like, if you're taking it not for the thing it was originally created for, like, is it gonna eventually fuck with your body? Like, I don't know. I don't know. Well, you're okay.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, SEMPIC does not allow you to build muscle.

SPEAKER_01

That's it. I didn't know that. That's really interesting. It's like it just makes you lose.

SPEAKER_00

So it makes you lose weight. So I have seen so many, I've seen a lot of people lose the weight. But as you get older, you need muscle. When you can lose, oh my god, it's so important. So they're really just messing themselves up from the future. Yes. You need the muscle.

SPEAKER_01

That's the one thing I've read on like subreddits where it's like ask women or whatever, and people are like, you know, if you're from this age to this age, like what would you recommend to your younger self? What would you what advice would you give them? And they're like, start strength training. They're like, strength training. They're like, you don't understand how fast you lose muscle mass and your bone density, like it all just starts to go to shit in your 40s in a way that if you're not in the habit, it's really, really hard to get that kind of strength back. I got into weight lifting when I was 15.

SPEAKER_00

Because I was dating a bodybuilder. Well, he he went on to be a bodybuilder. Wow. And he I remember he took me to the gym with him. Uh-huh. I loved it. I loved lifting. So I've been lifting since I was that young. No, that's amazing.

SPEAKER_01

What a great habit to have from 15.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah. Well, he was, you know, he was very much into fitness and he was also five years older than me. Well, four, I think. My mom's.

SPEAKER_01

But then hopefully he like knew what he was doing and could like help you.

SPEAKER_00

My mom's listening three. She's like, Yeah, how old was he?

SPEAKER_01

You're like, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter, mom. Shh, shh, sh, sh, sh, shit.

SPEAKER_00

Mom, look, he taught me how to lift.

SPEAKER_01

He was important in it for a certain way. For like He was important for us. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That's why we met for the weightlifting.

SPEAKER_01

That's kind of amazing. Yeah. Yeah, that's what you got. That's what you got out of it. I actually think that's a great thing. Really, that is away from a relationship.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Because and then he went on to be on a few competitions and bodybuilding magazines. I mean, I wasn't with him anymore, but you know, good for him. Good for him. But he didn't have to be a good one. But also to benefit you. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That was the only thing I got from him, but anyway. That's okay. If that's all you got, it's kind of a great it's kind of a great Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's like, yeah, you still have that in your life, so that's kind of great. Oh, and you mentioned the uh what did we were talking about lip filler and I was like, Oh yeah. So I don't know, it the butt. Is the butt getting injected? What what's happening? Because I'm watching some women at the gym and I'm going, your butt doesn't match your body, but yeah, it feels very it's it just was not done well.

SPEAKER_01

Super ignorant about butt lifts, but I do know they exist. I know it's a thing. But is it a butt lift or injection?

SPEAKER_00

Some people say you get an injection.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I don't know about life. There's injections. That's something I'm super ignorant about.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god, I got I gotta research this and come back on this. Yeah. But there is, there are injections. Just butt. I just I I've seen a few just this week that I've been like, what is happening? That doesn't look right. It doesn't look good. I mean, I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not sure like how long does it last? And like, is it gonna like droop in a way that like looks really fucked up if you don't like continue to work out?

SPEAKER_00

Some of them are slanting down, or maybe that's why I think those are the might be the injections. I know. Cardi B said she ain't taking hers out, but she should.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's like it gets poopy diaper look, right? Like that's what it also does. That's what it looks like. Yeah, it gets tricky if you don't have it done well. Like anything, any type of like procedure that isn't done well, you're like, woof.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I don't have the nicest ass, but I'm gonna keep mine the way it is, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm sure it's fine. But uh I bet it's awesome. And also, I bet it matches you, yeah, in a way that you don't look like a psycho walking down the street being like, whoa.

SPEAKER_00

It's gonna naturally gravity is gonna do it naturally.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Like let it let gravity just do its thing. Exactly. I don't know. Like I said, it it is just the kind of thing that I'm like, if this is your aesthetic, if this is what you want, it's fine. I just get nervous about the health and the like the long-term risks where all of a sudden people are like, Yeah, I did GLP one in like the 2025 time and now it's 2040, and like my bones are fucked up forever. You know, like I don't know. Who knows what it's gonna mess up with? But it's or it's just like, and now I like have a really hard time eating, you know. It's like now I got off of it, but now food is like it's really hard for me to have a relationship with food, you know. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

I just feel bad that the vanity and the not wanting to do it the healthier way takes over. Yeah. And it's sad. It's sad that um uh that's the objective, I guess. Like I wanna look good. I wanna I get that you wanna look good, but you also want to feel good. I don't know. I I don't think that if it's a question of my health and what's gonna happen or what could happen, uh that's not enough for me. No, that for me is not is a deal breaker.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I I think the Well, I mean, A, I can't really afford it anyway, but even if I could. I do think it's the kind of thing that I'm like, what is what's gonna happen in the long run and what's it gonna become and what is what's the upkeep on this? You know, like I don't know. Just worries me, honestly. It just scares me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm gonna be able to do that.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe I'm just talking out of fear. I don't know, man. You know?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but I but I wonder if they think about that.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. I think like we said, it because it's a solution to something that can be a lot of commitment and also, you know, if people like, well, I have, you know, I have a job, I have kids, I don't have time to work out like I want to, and it, you know, all I want to do is feel good in my body again, then it's just like, well, yeah, I also can understand that mentality, you know. Like, yeah, it's just like basically too much pressure is put on women about their bodies. The end.

SPEAKER_00

That's that's it. You know, I think peptides is probably the safer way because your body naturally produces it. Yeah. But um I'm not really sure. Like, see what happens.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I just I don't know. I mean, we were also talking about the young girls in Sephora, and I feel like it's just like we were kind of we brushed on that, where it's just like these girls who think they need all this skincare, who think they need all of these things. And I just feel like it's also really easy to overdo it. Like I the I don't know. I see things online where people are like, this is my skincare routine, and it's so many things. And I'm like, I think it's real, I think keeping your skin healthy is really important. But I think a lot of that boils down to like hydration, sleep, and using SPF. And like, I I mean, don't get me wrong, like I use things as we talked before we logged on. Like I literally just got a facial. Like, I'm not against stuff. I want to know what you got done today. I, oh my gosh, I love, I'm gonna just like I said, this is not a sponsorship. I just love Glow Bar. I'm gonna talk about it.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I didn't know about it, so I think you should talk about it because not a lot of at least no one over here in New Jersey.

SPEAKER_01

Well, maybe I'm I don't know if it's in Jersey yet. I know it's like semi tri state area.

SPEAKER_00

I'm not sure. I've got friends in New York that are gonna be listening in. So I think you should I have my girlfriend G, who would probably really appreciate what you're about to say.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh. Okay. Okay. Like I'm so happy. I've been going probably all like this summer. Have been going there for two years. And like I go once a month. It's a membership that's like 60. Now I think it's $65. I think when it started, it was 60 bucks. And you get a 30-minute facial. And I mean, you fill out whether you have like allergies and stuff like that. And you just talk to your aesthetician about like what your goals are, whether it's just like maintenance, whether you have acne, whether you want to do anti-aging, whether it's just extra hydration or dullness, or you know, there's like a lot of options. And they have, I mean, it's just like they kind of you can choose your own destiny every month about what you want to do and how you want to treat whatever, whatever you're trying to focus on. And so like there's a lot of there's a lot of locations in New York City. Wow. I know they're also, I think in Connecticut and maybe Massachusetts, I can't remember, but I can't recommend them enough. I will say the location I go to on the upper west side on West 100th Street, they are the nicest people. Everyone that works there has always been so kind. I show up and they're nice. The person that does my face is nice. Like the aestheticians are all so kind and knowledgeable and like they're so chill. It's a really chill atmosphere. Even when they're busy, I don't feel like it's crazy. You know, like that's nice.

SPEAKER_00

If people get busy sometimes, I feel like I'm in a rush or like I need to hurry up. I like that.

SPEAKER_01

I truly like, I mean, if people work there, like tell me, I I truly hope it's a good place to work. I hope it's a good work environment because I love going there and it would like break my heart if they're like, this is a terrible company to work for. Because it's like I have loved going there now for a year and a half. They have legit like fixed my cystic acne. Like I used to get Thanks. Like I said, this lighting is not amazing, but but it has gotten so much brighter and like clearer. Like normally during when I would get my period, I would have hormonal breakouts for sure. Right. And I would get like a really rough, like um, like cystic pimple underneath my skin. It would be the same place every month. It would be painful, it would never get above the skin, so I couldn't do anything. Yes. Yeah. They last forever. They never truly go away because they're like rooted in there. Yeah. And then, no joke, I started going to Glow Bar. And like sometimes today, they did like an exfoliation, this really cool foam exfoliation, so it was a little spicy. And then they did an extraction, so they got some of like some gunk out of my face, did a huge hydration, and did like five minutes of a red light mask. Um, nice. And it was awesome. And they always end with this epic hydration and they put a little bit of like aquif on your lips, and it's really nice. But it was just like it's after going there, I started in the summer because I was like, I want this to, I want my skin to be used to this by the time it's the winter when it's really dry and like my skin is like ready to be super hydrated. And it it worked, but also the amount of times that like whenever they did exfoliation, they have this little wand that like kills the bacteria in certain areas where you get like congestion in your spores. I have not had a cystic acne pimple in well over a year. And I used to get it every month in like one or two spots. And it's just like I don't know. Also, I also do like, I think, you know, we've talked about like we I do have a a skin routine that's not like super intense, but I do have certain things that I do every day and like that. I'm pretty um I'm consistent with it, and I'm I'm like, I I like the products I like and I don't change a ton because they work for my skin. But you know, the people I go to at Glow Bar always talk about how it's like it's homework. Like you can't just go and get a facial a month and think it's gonna fix all your problems. It's a long-term thing. It is you cannot have instant gratification when it comes to skincare. It is something you need to like start investing in. I started doing like night cream in my like mid-30s, and that was kind of the first thing I started doing with like skincare. And then as I got older, I started adding like some eye cream for night, some more hydration, some more like like I said, I use like copper peptides a couple times a week. I didn't know what that was.

SPEAKER_00

I know you and I kind of briefly talked about, so I looked it up. Obviously, as soon as we stopped chatting day to day, I was like, wait a minute, what is this? I put it in my cart. But I'm a skincare junkie, so I have to be careful because Yeah. You said you have a lot of products, right? You have like lots of stuff. Underneath my cabin. It's all organized, it all looks really pretty. But I'll go to the store and I'm like reading it. I'm like, oh, I'm gonna try this one. But I didn't finish that one.

SPEAKER_01

I'm like, come on. I gotta I gotta stop doing that. You gotta get it under control.

SPEAKER_00

I do, so I put yours in the cart, but I'm I'm gonna wait a minute because I have to finish. That's a deal I made with myself. That's good. Think my husband wasn't bought in that deal to the He was like, I'm gonna make a contract.

SPEAKER_01

What is happening? He's like, hear me out. I'm like, I bought it for both of us. He's like, Stop. You can use it, you can use it whenever you want.

SPEAKER_00

I said to him, like, let's do the peel on you. Yeah. Men don't understand. My husband's very manly, so he's like, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I bet he would he would get do it, and his face would feel so it would feel like baby skin, and he wouldn't even know what to do with himself. He'd be like, Oh my god, I'm gorgeous.

SPEAKER_00

We we have this thing where um his feet are so soft. Well, and my feet are not. How are his feet so soft? I don't know. He's on his feet all day, you know. Just lucky. He wears these rough boots, and I mean my feet are just disgusting next to his. I don't I don't even want to I don't even want to compete there. Yeah. So maybe he might like it. Who knows? Maybe I'll put some stuff on him and he'll be like, wow. Yeah, he feels so pampered. And then he'd like, like you said, he'd get out, he'd be glowing when he's gonna be a little bit more. I hope we're to get him a facial. Oh, should do it. All right, but getting back. Tell me about these peptides. These copper.

SPEAKER_01

I was like copper peptides, it's supposed to be just like nutritious for your skin. All I know is that it's like replenishing things in your skin as you get older. It has like a couple different things. It's from the ordinary, and I've used it for years. Um, and I use it like three to four times a week. After I like get out of the shower, I do hyalonic acid. Yeah. And then I'll do these peptides, and then I'll do another serum that I'm still really on the fence about. It's like it's like arguen or something like that. It's supposed to be what they were touting it as is like Botox in a bottle. And I was like, all right, I'll try and see if it can like kind of thin out my lines a little bit. I don't see a huge difference, to be honest. Like, I use it on my forehead and on my crows' feet, and I don't have huge crows' feet, but like, so that's why I'm just like, I don't really need it. Like, I still definitely have forehead wrinkles. They're not crazy, but they definitely exist. So I'm just like, I don't know if this is really doing anything for me. So I don't think I'm gonna reinvent.

SPEAKER_00

Botox in a bottle is a great way to sell your product. Yeah. But I was like, yeah, I'll try it once. Botox is Botox.

SPEAKER_01

And Botox, no, you're right. I don't know. Exactly. Like, you can't replace that. That's not right. Not a thing that can be i in a liquid, in a liquid, like you just put on your face. It's a great gimmick or a great it certainly got me. It got me. I got it. I'm almost done with it, and I yeah, I'm not gonna rebuy it. But oh no. Now they're gonna send us 10 bottles. Yeah, I'm like, I know, right? I'm like, send me other things. I was like, no, don't send me that. But yeah, I I do think that like I do worry that like again, younger generations find that they have to have the skincare routine. And it's like, I think you should take care of your skin, but like keep it simple and then like add on as you age and you need things like like the things that your skin is losing as you age, you know, like collagen type of stuff. Like, you know, do you do collagen?

SPEAKER_00

So I started drinking collagen. Yeah, yeah. Okay, when I was 24. So I've been taking drinking it since I was 24. Yeah. How do you drink it? Like in the powder form in like a coffee or something? It used to be powder, but I switched over three years ago to this liquid pomegranate, like because the powder you would mix in the water. It's not a big powder. That doesn't taste like anything, but it stays like in the bottom sometimes. And you gotta keep adding water and drinking. So um bio something. I have to look up what it is because I switched it over. It's collagen in a bottle, which Okay. Let me if there are young girls, that's what you want to start drinking from the inside out. Okay. Collagen is something that deteriorates fairly quickly. So I did collagen starting at like 24. Um, I didn't really wear any makeup at all. Even until I started doing it like on camera. But I would only And even then it was like a little blush, a little mascara, if mascara. I rarely wore mascara either, and just a little bit of lip. Yeah. But I have been doing the whole um eye cream, serum, all that since 30.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, how much? Like how much do what have you done? Because I like I said, I got I did like a night cream, like started doing like a preventative night cream like early 30s, mid thirties. No, I started in my late 20s. Do you remember what it is or what it was?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. It was Clinique because I used to work at Macy's. Yes! Oh my gosh. And then I used some Estee Lauder. Uh-huh. But I'm guaranteed something. I mean, we spoke about this too, but those products are expensive. Clinique is better priced. Right. But Lancome, Estee Lauder, even the bigger ones, like Chanel, which I don't, you know, Bobby Brown, I don't buy any of that stuff. In fact, I don't buy any of their products anymore. I usually just either go to um TJ Maxx and their skincare section to try new things. And now I've been using this Beakman 1802 product I found.

SPEAKER_01

I know I can't wait to get that next. That's like that's the thing again that I'm like I have saved and I'm not one to buy until I'm done with what I'm using.

SPEAKER_00

I have it on now. I use it to serum. It looks great. I love it.

SPEAKER_01

You're so glowy. You're so dewy. It's always dewy.

SPEAKER_00

And that's what that's what got me. I was like, oh, this feels gooey. Like it just makes me feel good.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because my skin feels good.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I do, but I don't do crazy. I do, you know, I wash my face, I come out, I'll do a toner, not every day, because it dries my skin out. Yeah, yeah. So I tone, I tone to clean like every three days, three to four days a week. Yeah. Then I will do, you know, A's in it. The um retinol. Yeah. The ones you buy. So I got the rock retinol. How do you like that? I like it. Yeah. I've been using it two months. I like it. It's a good product. It doesn't dry my skin out. I like it. And then I'll put on the beakman 1802, then the beakman 180 19 cream. And when it's day, I do the night, the day one with SPF. You know, I don't know. I think it's important, but I also think just putting this on your face isn't what's doing it. Yeah. So if you're a heavy drinker. Yeah.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So the other thing. You know, I bartended. So I'm not nagging people. Okay, so I used to I love to drink. I love drinking. But I can tell the difference. Yeah. But I didn't see it as much because I was in my twenties and thirties. Yeah. If I drank that way now, my skin would be looking dull, dehydrated, bleached. Also, what you eat. If you're someone that drinks a lot of soda, I don't drink soda.

SPEAKER_01

So I don't drink soda either. I've never drank soda. My mom didn't have a lot of sort of sort of side. I got out of that habit a long time ago. Yeah, it's bad for you. It's really bad for you. It is. But I just feel like that's something else that like you just don't realize how much it affects you. And no one like preps you for the fact that, like, by the way, like once you hit 40, your early 40s, like if you have two cocktails, you're gonna be dead.

SPEAKER_00

Like so, like my limit is two, and then I get stupid. So I have to stop.

SPEAKER_01

I also just like the next day just feel like trash. I mean, it's just I used to be able to like.

SPEAKER_00

I feel just like I don't even want to get out of bed. No, and then like I can't feel like I can't get out of it no matter what I do. So, like, you know, in my 20s I was doing collagen, but I was also shooting back tequila. But I didn't, I I didn't think about it. I'm like, oh, collagen, tequila at night. How is that even a thing?

SPEAKER_01

But no, but it's totally that is your 20s. You're like, I'm just trying to take care of myself. And then you're like, where's the next ball? Yeah, are you? I'm at the bar bartender.

SPEAKER_00

I'm like, oh no, I really take care of myself. I drink collagen every morning. Do you want to do a shout out to tequila?

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Oh my God, that's perfect. That's like a perfect way to describe it, right? Is that oh my God. But it is like it it's wild how hard it is for your body to process it now when you like get older and it's just really crazy to me. Cause I'm like, like you said, I used to be able to throw down. Like I and like if I know I'm off the next day and I have like a show or something, I'll go out and like have too much fun because I know I can sleep in the next day and and feel like trash. But if I have things I have to accomplish the next day, I'm like, no, like I have to I'll have maybe one or two cocktails and then I'll either switch to one light beer or I'll start getting NA's. I'll start getting like NA beers and just start drinking fake beers. Because I'm just like, I can't risk like not being able to accomplish the things on my to-do list tomorrow, you know?

SPEAKER_00

No, I especially like if I have to, like you said, do something and I know it has to get done and it I don't I can't. I just have to be like, nope. I maybe I can have one glass of wine, but that's it. I can't do it.

SPEAKER_01

I do like sipping wine, but I've gotten really good at sipping wine like very slowly in a way that like I can enjoy it and I'll have a glass last for a while, so I I'm not like crushing a half bottle of wine in like a night. I mean I could, but I just don't want to because I'll feel like shit.

SPEAKER_00

You'll feel like shit. So now it's like I drink so much water in between. Yeah. Like I'm really aware of it. I'm like, where's the water? I need the water. Give me no water. And the next day I wake up and I chug two coconut waters and Advil's. Yeah. That's kind of the thing now.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. No, I get the coconut water really gets you oh, so many electrolytes, like really brings you back to life. It's just like, save me coconut water. You're my only hope. Oh my god. It really is good for you.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Just tell you you're gonna be like, No, I love it. I after a run, I'll do it all the time. I mean, it just makes you feel so much better.

SPEAKER_00

So, yeah, like it kind of inside out, right? What you eat too is huge. But I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

It's like you just gotta take care of yourself. But also, like, don't take care of yourself too much too early. Like, don't waste your time and money on things until you have to. Like, enjoy your life, enjoy your youth, enjoy looking gorgeous. Like, you all look gorgeous, like everyone, all the youth look gorgeous. It's just like you don't think you do, and that sucks. I wish you could.

SPEAKER_00

Get out of Sephora Sephora gift cards.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna push you over. Move. I need I have I have errands because I'm an adult. I'm just like, I'm trying to get in and out and get one product. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Get out of here. They're like in there and they're trying everything on, and I'm like, but that that's for fine lines. I'm like, where is your mother? Go out. Just you know, in the other section. You're a child move. They are, they're babies. They're my and you know, I'm also wondering, like, all that stuff. Are they congesting their board?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Are they just gonna make it worse in the end? I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

It's possible. I don't think that an eight-year-old, a ten-year-old should be putting that stuff on their face so early. There's no way there's gonna be a good preventative. Yeah, for what? You need SPF, you need, you know Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Water.

SPEAKER_00

Baby lotion, whatever.

SPEAKER_01

Drink some water.

SPEAKER_00

Water. Yeah, take away drinking water.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Here, shut up, kid, and drink some water. Like take care of yourself. You know? Drink some water. I'm glad that I started in my 30s with like certain things like a night cream and everything, but I also am glad that I like it took time for me to build a routine of things that I have to care about now because it's just like I didn't have time for that before. And like you said, I was working in bars and I was just like, you think I was gonna get home at 2 30 at night and be like, now I have to put on my retinol? I'm like, no, I'm fucking blasted.

SPEAKER_00

I gotta go to bed. Oh, I washed my face, but it was nothing as intense as now. And also, like, I I didn't wear, like I said, I didn't wear makeup. And I just started learning how to put on makeup for on camera. I mean, we're talking about my 40s.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And you don't, you didn't probably wear a lot of makeup either.

SPEAKER_01

No, I still don't. Like, I mean, well, I because I got this facial. I never put on makeup after I I like let it my face just like exist for the day.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you don't need to.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, I don't want to. But like I nowadays I use a tinted sunscreen. Yeah. Yeah. And I mix yes.

SPEAKER_00

Well, who do you use? So it was one of those things that I typed in on Amazon. Yeah. I tried Laura Geller. I liked it. Oh, yeah. Uh-huh. But the one I really like is Goop. Do you? That was actually the one I was gonna try next. That's so interesting. Okay. It's got a hint of dewyness to it, not oily. And I just want my second bottle. I like goop. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I use Tower 28 and like Oh, how do you like that product?

SPEAKER_00

They have like I like it. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I like it, but I will say I like it when it's mixed with um a gel moisturizer. I think it's too dry on its own. Okay. So what I do is I have this Korean gel water moisturizer. It's like a red bean gel water moisturizer that I love. And then I put a dab of that in my palm and a dab of the tinted SPF, and then I mix them together and I put it on. And that's like my daily routine when I do it.

SPEAKER_00

Then you would probably like goo. I really want to try it. Actually, they have like the l like the little ones that you can try. That's what I would do. Okay. I gotta love those Koreans, man. My Korean makeup is saving me. I know. It's trouble. I like I just got this lip mask. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. And you weird it on, and now you leave it and then you peel it off. Then you just rub it off, and your lips are so soft. It's outrageous. And I just got their um actually, it's like a lip liner. Okay, but it's like a thick tip.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And then the other end has a brush. And you and you kind of brush your lips, so it gives you that powdy no makeup look. They're so smart. I'm like, what is happening? I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

No, it's like the science behind makeup there is like next level. Nice lip liner.

SPEAKER_00

It's like I do want to. Is she wearing it? Is she not? Have those lips? I'm like, who needs lip filler with this thing?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, really. This thing is magic.

SPEAKER_01

You're gonna have to text it to me.

SPEAKER_00

You're gonna go like this.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Interesting. Wow. This is life-changing. Genius. No, really, it's great. And it doesn't come off all day.

SPEAKER_01

That's like I went right before I got here, I was like, right after my face was really fast, I went and got BioDance collagen masks. I will say those are like they're awesome.

SPEAKER_00

I haven't tried them.

SPEAKER_01

They're on my list. They're great, and they're five bucks. And I'm just like Sephora. Sephora, I'm sure they're at Alta as well. I just had I'm just closer to a Sephora, that's all. But yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So you like them.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's one, it's the one in the pink container. It's like, yeah, and it's like for collagen and hydration. And it's really great.

SPEAKER_00

Does that stay on all night?

SPEAKER_01

It's like one of the ones that you it's the ones that you peel off. It's like it's like not a maximum serum. Like once a week, like on a Sunday night. Okay. Yeah. Sunday or Monday.

SPEAKER_00

You look forward to that, don't you? Oh yeah. You know it. Give yourself a little treat, right? Me and my eye gels, I try to drop off my son. And one of the moms was like, I saw you. You had those eye gels on. I'm like, Yep. My husband was like, What are eye gels? They're like those um, yeah, those eye things. But I put them on and I walk around with them on the street. I went to go pick up a food delivery one day. And my husband goes, Where are you going? I go, I'm gonna go get that. He goes, You're gonna walk in there with that? I go, Yep.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

He goes, They're like purple. I go, that's okay. I did walk in. The woman was kind of like, What is it?

SPEAKER_01

Wait, really? That's so surprising to me. Because I see people with like their hair half done and things like that on. It's like, also you're going to pick up food. Like, who cares?

SPEAKER_00

She was like was laughing at me. I wanted to be like, Do they even work? But then I'll right. Like, do you have inside info? Let me know, man. She's probably like, no, you white people just buy everything and it'll be anything we tell you, we'll fix something. Yeah. We use our best models with the best skin, and you guys are like, they're all just so gorgeous. I need that. I need that.

SPEAKER_01

They got me though. $78 later. I believe him. I'm a sucker for it. I'm like, yeah, we all are. Yeah. I'm like, I'll do it. I'll buy it. Yeah. It gets worse. I feel like it gets worse. Guys, just for it. Don't worry. It gets worse. It gets worse. Don't worry. It gets worse.

SPEAKER_00

Really God. Some 30-year-olds don't know what's coming for you.

SPEAKER_01

They don't. I try not to be too like spooky, like boogeyman about it, but I'm just like, I'm just going to let you discover it on your own. And then you're going to be like, oh, she wasn't being dramatic. She was just trying to tell me that it's worse. And, you know.

SPEAKER_00

It's been really fun. Catching up with you guys. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Thanks for listening to us talk about skin and peptides. Skin and peptides, baby.

SPEAKER_00

Skin and peptides. We're going to come back. We're going to have uh eating habits. That should be an interesting topic.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that'll that'll be interesting. Alrighty. Yeah. All right. We'll see you next time.

SPEAKER_00

Thanks for listening in, guys. Bye.
