The IBS Solution with Brooke Kane
If you have chronic diarrhea that won't stop no matter what you eat, you're in the right place.
This Podcast is for women who have been told their IBS is something they just have to manage, who have done the colonoscopies, the low FODMAP diet, the probiotics, and still run to the bathroom every day.
Brooke Kane is a registered nurse and functional medicine practitioner who has helped over 500 women find the actual root cause of their urgent diarrhea and get rid of it. Not manage it. Get rid of it.
On this Podcast you will learn why your tests keep coming back normal, why food is not the problem, and what advanced testing actually shows when someone finally looks in the right place. Real cases. Real answers. No more guessing.

You went to the doctor. Everything came back normal. But you have not left the house without knowing where every bathroom is for years. You are not imagining this, and you are not a difficult case. The tests that keep coming back clean were never designed to find what is actually wrong with you.
In this episode, I'm going to show you what I used to believe about getting answers from the medical system, the moment that belief broke, and what advanced functional testing finds that a colonoscopy is simply not built to look for.

❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Why does my colonoscopy keep coming back normal when my symptoms are so severe?
A colonoscopy is designed to find cancer, bleeding, and structural damage. It is not designed to assess the bacteria, yeast, parasites, or fatty acid levels living in your gut environment. A clean scope means no tumor or bleed. It does not mean your gut is healthy.
What does advanced functional stool testing find that a standard test misses?
Advanced functional testing maps the full gut environment: beneficial and harmful bacteria, yeast overgrowth, parasites, short-chain fatty acids, immune function, mold markers, and detox pathways. That data explains why the diarrhea and urgency exist and what specifically needs to be addressed.
If I've been told it's IBS, what should I actually do next?
IBS is a description of your symptoms, not a diagnosis of what is causing them. Write down every test you have had and what was found. Then write down every symptom you are still living with despite those clean results. That gap is exactly where your real answer is hiding.

If you've done everything your GI doctor told you to do and you still run to the bathroom after every meal, this video is for you. You had the colonoscopy, your doctor called, said everything looks fine, but you have not left the house without knowing where all the bathrooms are for three years. I've helped over 500 women get rid of this in my functional medicine practice. And before any of that, I was you, super sick, three different doctors, all normal results. What changed was the moment I realized that the system I'd been trained in was never going to give me the answer. I'm gonna show you what I used to believe about getting answers inside the medical system, what broke that, and what I found instead. And by the end of this, you'll understand exactly why your results keep coming back normal while your gut keeps screaming at you and what to do about it. I used to tell women that I worked with to see a specialist, go to the GI doctor, get the colonoscopy, do the stool test, work through the system because the system's built to help us. That advice made sense. I was a registered nurse. I'd been trained in the system, I believed in it completely. And GI doctors spend years studying the digestive system, right? So if anyone knew what was causing chronic diarrhea, urgency, it should have been them. And when you're in pain and you're scared, you go to the person with the most credentials in the room. I did the same thing myself. When my gut started falling apart, I didn't look for alternative answers, I made an appointment, then another one, then a third. I sat in three different rooms, described the same symptoms, and left with three versions of the same answer. What I could not shake was how many women were getting that same exact answer and then spending years just trying to manage their symptoms instead of actually healing it, all because they were told that nothing else was wrong, there's nothing else to try and to stop looking. Meanwhile, their gut was still burning. So here's what I started noticing once I began working with enough women and I started to see the pattern more clearly. When I was sending women back into the medical system, I expected them to at least get some kind of answers, maybe not a full solution, but some kind of direction that moved them forward. What actually happened was a loop, and I was still in it myself. We went in, we got tested, everything was normal, told try a modium, cut out gluten, try loFodMap. Some of us felt a little bit better for a while, but then the symptoms came back and then they came back again. Colonoscopy after colonoscopy, prescription after prescription, every test was clean, everything was normal, and every single one of us was still running to the bathroom four to ten times a day. Between myself and the doctors I saw, we had decades of advanced medical training. And the best advice they had was just take more ammonium. What I would eventually realize is that the problem was not the doctors, the problem was the testing. Every test they ran was designed to look for cancer, bleeding, structural damage, not designed to look at the why behind why the gut was behaving that way. That question was never on their list. The pattern was too consistent to be individual bad luck and something was missing at a more systemic level. I put out this kind of content every week because this is the information that took me years to find, and I want you to find it a lot faster. Let's talk about the moment that my trust in the system broke. I got angry, not at my doctors specifically, because they were doing exactly what they were trained to do. I got angry at the idea that this was just how things were gonna be, that I was a healthcare professional who understood the human body, and the best answer given to me was try-lo FODMAP. So I started studying things on my own: food, the gut, the microbiome, things I was never taught in school. And the further I got from the system, and the more I started finding a completely different picture of what was actually going on inside of my gut. That's when I found functional medicine. It's a model that didn't ask what drug matches the symptom. It asked me why the symptom existed in the first place. And the testing that came with it was unlike anything I'd seen inside of the hospital system. I ran the testing on myself first, and for the first time in years, I had actual answers, measurable, treatable things. Everything I needed to know had been sitting inside my gut the entire time, while three different GI doctors told me that everything looked fine. That's when I knew for sure that the tests were not coming back normal because nothing was wrong. They were coming back normal because nobody was running the right tests. That was the moment that I stopped trusting conventional medicine when they said normal. IBS stands for irritable bowel syndrome. So your bowels are irritated. That's not a diagnosis. That's a description. And a description is not the same thing as getting an answer. The gut doesn't become a disaster for no reason. And the reason is almost always visible once you run the right tests. When I ran my own advanced testing on myself, I found significant overgrowths of bacteria, severely depleted beneficial bacteria, my fatty acids were completely out of balance. That combination was a recipe for exactly the symptoms that I had. The answers were sitting in my own gut the entire time, and no GI doctor had ever looked for them because no GI doctor does that kind of testing. And when I started using this with my clients, I found the same thing: parasites, yeast, mold in women who had been told repeatedly that everything was fine. So we need to stop assuming that a normal colonoscopy means that your gut has been properly assessed. It has not. It means nobody found a tumor or an ulcer. That's a different thing. So start asking what is living in your gut that nobody has tested for mold, parasites, yeast, harmful bacteria that shouldn't be there. These things show up on advanced functional testing. They do not show up on anything a standard GI office is running. And here's the one thing that I tell every single client now at the very start, before anything else happens. The reason conventional testing keeps missing the root cause of IBS is not a mystery. It's by design. Standard stool tests are looking for things like C. diff, H. pylori, blood, mucus. They were built to rule out emergencies, but not to map out the whole environment of your gut. Advanced functional testing is looking at different data. It's looking at the bacteria, the pH, fatty acids, immune function, parasites, mold markers, detox pathways. When you have that kind of data, you're not guessing anymore. You know exactly what you're working with. So think about it this way: imagine if your basement starts flooding, you call someone to look at it, they check the drain in the floor. The drain's clear. They tell you everything looks fine, and they send you a bill, but the flood's still coming. Why? Because the water is coming in through a crack in the wall. They never checked the wall. That's exactly what a colonoscopy is doing for chronic diarrhea. It's checking the drain and it's not designed to find the crack. When we stop chasing the symptom and we start looking at what's actually going on in the gut, the picture changes completely. The diarrhea is not random, you find out. The urgency is not just how your body works now. It's your gut responding to something specific that's in there and has not been found yet. So here's what I want you to do tonight. Write down every test you've ever had done for your gut, any colonoscopy, endoscopy, stool test, blood work, all of it. Write down what they found. Number two, then write down every symptom that you're still living with despite those tests coming back clean. The urgency, the cramping, the foods you can't eat anymore, the places you can't go to anymore, the trips you haven't taken, the things you have quietly stopped doing because you couldn't trust your gut to cooperate. That second list is not a list of things that are normal. It's a list of things that have never been properly explained. And it's the starting point for finally finding out why. Bring both of these lists to your first conversation with whoever you work with next. That gap between what the test found and what you're still living with every single day is exactly where your answer is hiding. If you did everything right, you went to the doctors, you did the tests, you followed the advice, and you're still sick, that is not a you problem. That is an information problem. The answers exist. They've just never been in the places that you were told to look.
