Depth Charge #11 — The Peace Offering Fulfilled

What if the peace offering in Leviticus was pointing to something far greater than a sacrifice?

In Leviticus 3, God established the peace offering—a sacrifice connected with fellowship, communion, and sharing a meal in the presence of God. The sacrifice came first, and then came the fellowship.

After Jesus had offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice, He met Peter on the shore of Galilee. There, the risen Christ prepared a meal and called Peter to “Come and dine.”

The sacrifice had been made. The price had been paid. Now came restoration and fellowship.

Peter had denied Christ three times. Yet Jesus didn't cast him away. He brought him back to the table.

The peace offering was pointing forward to Christ—the One through whom we have peace with God and restored fellowship with Him.

The sacrifice is finished.
The table is prepared.
There is peace with God.
And there is a place for you at the King’s table.

Grab your Bible and let's get cracking. Did you know that one of the clearest pictures of peace with God in the Old Testament isn't just a sacrifice, it's a table. In Leviticus, the peace offering wasn't just about blood being shed, it was about fellowship being restored. The sacrifice was made, and God and man shared a meal together. Acceptance wasn't the end of the story. Table fellowship was. Now fast forward to Samuel, a broken man named Mephibosheth, is living in a place called Lodabar, a place of no pasture, no provision, no future. He's crippled, forgotten, and cut off from the king. But David doesn't treat him like an enemy. He doesn't destroy him like protocol demands. He remembers a covenant. And because of that covenant, Mephibosheth is brought out of Lodabar and seated at the king's table. And the scripture says he ate there continually as one of the king's sons. Now fast forward again to John 21. Peter has failed. He denied Christ three times. He's not running toward Jesus. He's drifting back to fishing. But when Jesus appears, it doesn't start with judgment. He starts with a fire and a meal. Come have breakfast. Because the sacrifice has already been made. The cross is already spoken. So the risen Christ doesn't re-offer atonement. He offers fellowship. Just like the peace offering, just like the table of David. The guilty are not rejected. They are seated. The broken are not cast out, they are brought in. And the ones who ran from God are invited to eat with him again. This is what grace looks like. Not just forgiveness of sin, but restoration at the table. Because in the kingdom of God, peace isn't just something you receive at an altar. It's something you sit down and eat with the Master.
