This week we try the BTS x Oreo collaboration and a few other tasty snacks.

SPEAKER_00

Hello everybody. Welcome to Snacks What You Get, the weekly podcast where mother and son review snacks and discuss what they've eaten this week. I'm Chris, the son, and this is Debbie. The mum. Hello everybody.

SPEAKER_01

Hello, welcome back.

SPEAKER_00

Welcome back to another week of Snacks What You Get. Yes, um, we're here. We're we're on what is it now? Episode 12? Is it? I think it's 12. Yeah, I think it's 12, something like that. I mean, yeah, wow, we can't believe that's 12 weeks we've been doing it then consistently, but also we as we've sort of alluded to before, I had a couple of practice ones before, and actually um I think we're we're probably now closer to 15 weeks of doing this together.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, flown by, it has flown by. Um I'm still enjoying doing it, so that's the main thing. I hope you're all still enjoying listening. So without um wasting too much time, we'll go straight into it. So new bites.

SPEAKER_01

New bites.

SPEAKER_00

So for new bites this week, what have you had?

SPEAKER_01

Well, we went to Marks and Spencer's, like everyone's going to the new Marks and Spencer's, aren't they, in Weymouth?

SPEAKER_00

They are.

SPEAKER_01

And um we picked up a triple chocolate cheesecake.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, nice.

SPEAKER_01

Now we were gonna get two slices for four pounds, but then Dave spotted a whole cheesecake for five pounds.

SPEAKER_00

Was that m was that reduced on offer?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know if that's the full price.

SPEAKER_00

It's hard to imagine they sell any of the two slices, you know. That's the difference.

SPEAKER_01

But um yeah, so it's a triple chocolate cheesecake crafted with British whipping cream and finished with a white chocolate swirl.

SPEAKER_00

Sounds nice on paper. Sounds delicious.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, um what can I say? It wasn't my favourite cheesecake ever, I'm not gonna lie. No. Dave absolutely loved it. I thought it was okay. I don't think I'm a huge fan of a chocolate cheesecake, to be honest, but it was nice, it was creamy, it was very, very chocolatey.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_01

But not my favourite cheesecake.

SPEAKER_00

Fair enough. I think sometimes chocolate on chocolate on chocolate as in triple. It's a bit much. Yeah, it can become a bit same, then you lose a bit of the sort of differences.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um I mean we had the um lemon one a couple of weeks before that, and that was very nice. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Um so potentially just for you, too much. I mean, it's hard to say too much chocolate, but almost too much chocolate.

SPEAKER_01

It was yeah, I'm gonna say it was almost too much chocolate. I think I'd prefer a fruity one. Having said that, it was still a nice cheesecake, just not my favourite. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, well that's you know, good to know on there. And was it is it like one of their special cheesecakes, or is it more their I don't want to say basics range, it's still Marks and Spencer's, but I I would say it was one of their standard cheesecakes, if not, it's not an extra special one or anything.

SPEAKER_01

Um and they they do sell the best, is it?

SPEAKER_00

Is that can't remember what the Marks and Spencer's yeah version is of their you know finest or whatever, you know, that their range of that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, I think I think it's just a standard one. They do they do these in packs of two slices and whole cheesecakes for this entire range. So I I was thinking of the raspberry swirl one, but I possibly picked up the um triple chocolate.

SPEAKER_00

I think if you want chocolate, it's hard to beat, isn't it? So it's a risk you take at the time. Is it is it going to be what you want the next day when you've got the next slice or or not? But no, well, I'm sorry, it's sad it wasn't uh as nice as you'd hoped, but also I think if someone's into a real chocolate fix, it sounds like that might be right.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, Dave Dave loved it, I just didn't. So if you if you're a real chocolate cheesecake lover, you'll probably really like this. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Well, that's nice to know.

SPEAKER_01

What about yourself? What have you had?

SPEAKER_00

So this week I had the Sainsbury's tiramisu loaf taste the difference.

SPEAKER_01

Loaf? What? As in a loaf cake, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, uh tiramisu loaf cake, and um it was delicious. Really like that. Yeah. So it's I mean, I'll I'll read the description of it.

SPEAKER_01

Does it go in the fridge or is it?

SPEAKER_00

No, it's out, it's just out. Um they do they they've got these are new. I think, well, they say new on them, I think. Um I when I say new, I'm not they're not really new, but they're the last couple of months, like summer range, it feels like. Um, and it's sponge cake infused with coffee, topped with mascarpini buttercream and dusted with fat-reduced cocoa powder. So they had a cherry bake bake whole one in there, which I was very intrigued by as well, but I don't think that had anything on the top in terms of like a buttercream or anything like that. This one, yeah, it's delicious. You well, again, it's like you get a loaf tray and you make a cake in a loaf tray, yeah, and then they've just put butt buttercream on the top, sort of, or the icing on the top, that's what it is. But really tasty, yeah. The um tiramisu comes across in it. I think having the it's basically like a coffee loaf cake. Yeah. But by having the mascarpony cream and other stuff in there, just really it it did invoke tiramisu. And I'm normally a bit of a crit like I will criticise, and I don't like it. You're a tiramisu kodassure, aren't you? Well, I I will eat all sorts of tiramisu if it's tiramisu. If it's a salted caramel tiramisu or a hazelnut tiramisu, or all these other ones, that does irritate me a bit because I think it's pretty perfect on its own. Stop taking something and putting, you know, it's not a tiramisu if it's you know, strawberry and custard flavour. Yeah, it's no longer a tiramisu, so stop saying it just because it's a layered cake. But anyway, digressing. I I like tiramisu, and at first I was unsure of this, but I thought, well, it's not trying to be anything else in the sense of flavours-wise, it is giving you traditional tiramisu. Yeah, and it and it got a lot of the textures along as well with having the creamy, you know, by having the mascaroni on there. It was a bit more cakey than a tiramisu because it's not as soaked in the stuff, but I I got it, I understood what was happening, and I really I enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, good. Was it the sponge? Was it dry or was it?

SPEAKER_00

It wasn't dry. It's definitely so it is infused, it didn't feel it wasn't like wet, there's nothing leaking through, but it's definitely moist is um on there. And how much was that? So that was two pounds. It's not a big loaf cake. I mean, it says it's £285 grams. It's on nectar thing from three pounds at the moment, so it's a third off.

SPEAKER_01

Three pounds is a bit pricey. Two pounds sounds reasonable to me.

SPEAKER_00

Two pounds, I think, is actually quite a good deal for what it is. Um, on there. Three pounds is definitely pushing it, and I probably wouldn't pick it up again at £3. I would like to try whether at £2 the cherry baked well one.

SPEAKER_01

Of course.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. But the but yeah, that that one at two pounds, that one I think is a really good one. It's right next to where the um I mentioned, was it the sponge the the cappuccino Swiss roll I had last week? Oh right, yeah. Um it's it's the same section, it's like the shelf above that, with a both at the bottom. Uh in the bread cakes, that kind of aisle. Yeah, you know, where they do like the pre-made chocolate cake, things like that. Yeah, the birthday cakes. Yeah, exactly. It's all round there and where mini rolls are and their version of mini rolls and all that stuff. So yeah, but no, really enjoyed that.

SPEAKER_01

Oh good. Well, I'm glad to hear that.

SPEAKER_00

There we go. Right, well, that's new bites done for this week. Um, and enjoyed that. And I think we should move on to the tasting grounds.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, let's get on with it.

SPEAKER_00

It's the tasting grounds. So, this week, as always, four items, a little bit of a mixture, which is good because we've had a few sort of themed slash grouped ones. Yes. So it's interesting um on there. So one of the things which I'm quite excited about is you found the blue ribbon vanilla.

SPEAKER_01

Vanilla.

SPEAKER_00

Which I didn't know they did. It says new on them. So whether or not I again you never know these days whether that was printed a year ago, but it was just new at the time. But either way, it says new. Longtime listeners of the podcast will understand that we've been impressed with all the blue ribbons. All the blue ribbons. So this has quite a high bar to meet, doesn't it?

SPEAKER_01

It's a white chocolate one, yes, and vanilla cream, I'm guessing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so we'll get to get into that. Yeah, but we'll probably try that one first. But just as a well, no, we've got a Montana bar, which looks like a someone's done their version of a Toblerone.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um, we've got Fox's Chocolatey Rounds Sorted Caramel. Now I like the normal rounds, I've not tried the sorted caramel ones. No, I haven't. Um, on there, and then the the wild card, which we can still smell now with a packet open, is the Oreo BTS Collaboration, which is a brown sugar pancake flavour.

SPEAKER_01

That does sound nice.

SPEAKER_00

It sounds very intriguing on thing, isn't it? And yes, but without further ado, we'll go straight in with the blue ribbon there. Yes, please. So, general same packaging as always with them. Yeah, except the bit that is the the part they change colour on all of them, uh, is like a whitey cream colour for vanilla and it has a cross section. And you're right, this one appears to have white chocolate on the outside and some form of white, like I would guess, vanilla cream inside.

SPEAKER_01

I think these could be nice.

SPEAKER_00

These, yeah. So it says they are crisp wafer biscuits covered in white coating, so apparently not white chocolate, covered in white coating with vanilla flavoured filling. So, yes, you were right on there, and yeah, it says enjoy uh try some of the other favourites, and it's got the three that we've already tried on the back. So this might be the final one in the set.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I know.

SPEAKER_00

Blue ribbon. I know, I know, and we've enjoyed all of them so far. We have, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I I think that they're just they're just a decent biscuit, aren't they? Or decent wafer biscuit.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, exactly. That and I I think we found before, and this is gonna be interesting because vanilla can be really hit and miss with flavouring. Yeah, I think we we found before that they've done really well with their flavours, though, yes.

SPEAKER_01

So the hazelnut one wasn't the hazelnut one was spot on, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It wasn't too artificial, wasn't overpowering, it was perfect for whatever.

SPEAKER_01

The dark chocolate one was equally as nice, it was lovely, and uh the regular one.

SPEAKER_00

Obviously, the original yeah, so very intrigued by this. Now, again, white coating. Do you know what? I don't remember whether the other ones said chocolate in them or if they just now we've said now we're now we're looking at it.

SPEAKER_01

No, I'd like to think they were chocolate, but possibly not. Well, yeah, I'm just trying to.

SPEAKER_00

I think, oh no. Basically, uh it on the on the back, it's got the have you tried our other favourites? And it's got the dark and milk, and on this one it says vanilla, and then underneath says individually wrapped. The milk and dark have got another word under them that I think might be chocolate. But because it's a shrunk down version of the packet, I can't read it um on there. But this one, interestingly, because one thing we have pointed out with all blue ribbons, is that they often mention their calories on the front, don't they?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, they do.

SPEAKER_00

They like to say being a wafer bar, they're quite low calorie. And interestingly, this is the lowest calorie of them all.

SPEAKER_02

Really?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, 83 calories a bar. 83. The regular one, 93, the dark, 91, and the hazelnut 97. So these are you know, 10% less than any of them at least.

SPEAKER_01

So just googling it quickly, it does say it's um the original is chocolate covered.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so chocolate, so there we go. Yeah, so this one I don't know if it's to do with like the level of cocoa butter or whatever in them, but yeah, it just says white coating, which usually means it's well, it's not a chocolate. Uh so that's a little bit disappointing, but what actually matters, the proof is in the pudding, is if it tastes nice, isn't it? Oh, absolutely. So, but firstly, how how much were these?

SPEAKER_01

They were a pound. Of course. They were reasonably priced a pound. I think that's the same as all the other blue ribbons, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think so. And again, for six, very reasonably priced realistically.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so I think, well, as we tried the others and people are aware of them, I think we should just give them a go. Yeah, let's try them. Well, that was nice, wasn't it? It was very nice.

SPEAKER_01

That was delicious.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think they balanced all the flavours well, and the main flavour is vanilla. Um, for an artificial vanilla, quite nice.

SPEAKER_01

I I didn't I didn't oh I'm should not overpowering and not artificial tasting, it was spot on.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think the overpowering bit's key because sometimes to make up for the fact that it's but if they put too much in to give it like a oh wow, look at all the vanilla here. But no, in this case, I actually think it was um it was good that that they they toned it back a little bit. I would say of all of them, by far the sweetest of them.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And I think that white coating didn't make me go, I wish this was white chocolate in it. I I you know I liked the coating, yeah, it was very nice. And um, yeah, the that's the only thing I could say uh negatively is that it it was quite sweet, and again, that isn't really a negative, it's a coated biscuit, you know, it's gonna be sweet.

SPEAKER_01

It was, I mean, it was the sweetest of all of them, but it wasn't overly sweet. I really enjoyed it. I would definitely pick those up again.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and and so I think that's a well done, blue ribbon. They've four flavours, four wins, really, aren't they?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think I think they're pretty excellent. They just seem to get all the flavours just right, don't they?

SPEAKER_00

And I think the texture works. The amount of the wafer is they do enough layers so that the wafer can be thin. Um you get a good crisp still of it, uh, but they also have enough layers that they can get enough cream, even though it's a very thin layer through them, you get enough in there. Yeah, it's a very very well-balanced biscuit, isn't it?

SPEAKER_01

Or wafer wafer bar again.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think we say well done every time, don't we? But but we mean it.

SPEAKER_01

It's a very good one, and for a pound, you just can't for see lunchbox snack, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

It's yeah, it definitely feels like that's what it was aimed at and done, you know, the size and everything fits nicely in there. And yeah, I think one bar is one serving.

SPEAKER_01

Well done, blue ribbon. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

None of this funny business of making one bar, two servings or anything. Yeah, but there we go. So, what would you score it? Battering everything in.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna go eight.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, fair enough, yeah. So I'm I'm gonna go a seven um on there, which is I think it's the low my probably my least favourite of all of them, but I think they're all a buy now, aren't they? Definitely, yeah, they're on there. So good, an eight and a seven. Respectable score, all of them have done well on there. So if you see any of them and you've not tried them, just try any of them. Again, you'll know yourself if you like dark chocolate. If you don't like dark chocolate, sorry, don't pick up the dark one, it's probably just not for you. But yeah, if you're intrigued by any of them, I'd highly recommend you pick them up.

SPEAKER_01

I can't imagine there's a single person who hasn't tried an original blue ribbon at some point in their life.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I just think that maybe generationally now then they're not as popular as they used to be. I don't know, you just don't hear people talking about them, you don't see them advertised, you know.

SPEAKER_01

They don't need to advertise.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I know, but it's a bit like fries though, isn't it? You know, when we did that. Oh, yeah, true, yeah. You know, you don't hear anyone talking about them, but clearly people are buying them. Can't just be us for a podcast that buying them.

SPEAKER_01

Um I I think I feel like they've been around for years. Oh, they have, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So I'm I'm glad they're still popular, or at least popular enough to keep them around.

SPEAKER_01

Definitely.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'd quite like a coffee blue ribbon. I think they could do a good with a coffee cream, like an original with a coffee cream in it. Yes, yeah, there you go, blue ribbon. I I I'll let you have that one for free, but for any other um yeah, any other consultancy, you'll have to you'll have to give us a call.

SPEAKER_01

You want a lifetime supply.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, give it some blue ribbons. Um, but yeah, so there. Good score for that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well done, blue ribbon.

SPEAKER_00

And that moves us on to the Montana bar. So this is definitely a Toblerone attempt slash style.

SPEAKER_01

I'll tell you what, it looks just like the oldie version of Toblerone, doesn't it? Because it's almost exactly it's got the tops of the triangle sort of cut off, hasn't it? And they're alternating.

SPEAKER_00

Or you could say lying down as well, couldn't you?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But yes, it's that if anyone's seen at Christmas the last couple of years, anyway, Aldi have done their own version of a Toberone on there, which looks a bit like you take a Tobone bar and you slice the top third off of it of the of the peaks, a little bit like that. Or you could argue that they're triangles lying down, alternating like teeth almost. Yeah, however, you look at it, they come in a they're a more personal size bar rather than the large bars you traditionally get a tober in. Yeah, and they um they come in again similar to the toburone, they come in the little cardboard box with the foil wrapper.

SPEAKER_01

They're wrapped in foil in the in the cardboard package.

SPEAKER_00

And so moving on to this Montana bar, it's very similar layout to that Aldi one, it comes in a cardboard box wrapped in foil.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, um it's a 90 gram bar.

SPEAKER_00

Nine 90 gram bar, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And it was 75p in a B and M bar.

SPEAKER_00

See, if this is nice, it's that's that's a very good prospect.

SPEAKER_01

It could be, yeah. But because you don't always want to spend six or seven pounds on a huge tober and sometimes you just want a little individual one, don't you?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, exactly. I mean the a normal sized tobrone is a well, I say normal, the one you see mostly in supermarkets is a big bar. Yeah. And it is, as you say, in a premium price point. So you don't always want that, you just want something a pick-me-up for yourself.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And then that's where the sort of older sized ones will come in. But I actually found them quite pricey at Christmas. I think they're around two pounds, two pounds something for the individual sized ones.

SPEAKER_01

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

Which again, it's the only I'm pretty sure it's exactly the same size as this bar.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like they were two, maybe they're £150, but I I always remember thinking it feels like a little bit much.

SPEAKER_01

I did I do I recall right? They did a blonde, they also did blonde.

SPEAKER_00

They did two or three different yeah, two or three different ones. This one though says milk cocoa bar with almond nougat pieces with honey.

SPEAKER_01

It doesn't say chocolate, does it? Again, what is it says cocoa bar, yeah? What's going on?

SPEAKER_00

And yeah, again, milk cocoa bar with almond nougat pieces with or nuggets.

SPEAKER_01

Is chocolate just too expensive these days, but they put cocoa well, cocoa is chocolate, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, that's what's a bit up, but maybe it's just because it's I know it's all in English, it's not one of these import ones. Where did you get it from?

SPEAKER_01

BM bargains.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so in BM. Um, so it looks, you know, if you think of the form factor like the other one, it's a cut-off triangle-shaped box on there. Um, a trapezoid is that I don't know, it can't be that anyway. Funny shape, uh, slightly, well, rectangle with the top half bent inwards. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I think it's pretty classy packaging. It looks small. Yeah, it looks alright.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think it's a little bit like it's cheap cardboard printed on a little bit. But I like the colour scheme. It's black, yeah, fading into or like a very dark brown, fading into um like a little pattern on the side with a picture of the things in there. It's got the mountain range on there, which again hearts back, I think, to the Toberone because they have uh famously they have the Swiss Alps on there, there's a believe. So this must be from the Montana mountain range. Um which if everyone's watched Yellowstone, which I think they have, then they'll know. Yeah. Um and yeah, it says milk cocoa bar almond nuggets pieces with honey, which is again like the original Toberone flavour, isn't it? It's it's definitely that um ilk. And yeah, it looks the packaging looks fine. I just can't get 75p. That seems like if this is nice, that's a game changer. Well, that's a big buy. Because um yeah, as you say, you don't want to spend five-six pounds sometimes. That's when they're on offer, on getting a big bar unless it's for a special occasion um on there. So I mean it does say they're vegetarian as well, for those who want to know. So it just says it on the phone's got a big green circle with vegetarian on it.

SPEAKER_01

Nice.

SPEAKER_00

There we go. Um, but yeah, the packaging, it's nice. I like I do like the cardboard box packaging.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Because it feels a bit more premium than some of the others, and it also means it holds together a bit better, doesn't just collapse.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I like the fact that it had the little tear off thing at the end, yes, making it easier to get into.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, one of those little tear-off tabs. So the only thing it means it's makes it harder to seal. Although I suppose actually you can just do that, can't you? Yeah, wrap it over.

SPEAKER_01

Or wrap the foil around the end a bit more. Yeah, the foil in there, just to let's face it, we're gonna eat an entire bar, let's be honest. It's not a big one, is it? Oh, that is the thing to check.

SPEAKER_00

That yeah, that's what I was gonna say. Let's check. They have, I think, taken a smart move to not tell you servings on it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I'm a big fan already.

SPEAKER_00

It just says on their nutritional values per hundred grams.

SPEAKER_01

It's only a 90 gram bar, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

That annoys me. If if something is don't give me the nutritional values per hundred grams, give me the nutritional values per bar, please. So I haven't got to get my calculator out and work it all out.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I suppose for ninety grams, you just divide the hundred grams by ten and times by nine, don't you?

SPEAKER_01

Doing that in your head or are you getting your phone out and working it out?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I was just doing it my head roughly. So it's 532 grams for 100 gram, 532 calories for 100 gram bar. We're in the um 400 and I don't know. Yeah, 490, 480 calories for that bar then. Yeah, 480 calories. 480. Yeah, give or take a couple.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

There you are. Which sounds like a lot for that size bar actually. It does. So it's very calorie dense.

SPEAKER_01

I think chocolate tends to be though, doesn't it? Lesbians.

SPEAKER_00

Well it can be, yeah. Yeah, it can be.

SPEAKER_01

I mean your blue ribbons are nice and low in calories because there's nice light wafers in there.

SPEAKER_00

That is true. This this has nothing on that. Um nothing, sorry, to to make it lighter. So I'm intrigued. Well, anyway, I've gone on about this for a while. Shall we try it?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, go on then.

SPEAKER_00

Let's go for it.

SPEAKER_01

Well, that wasn't as good as I hoped.

SPEAKER_00

No. I had high hopes because I like a toberin and all the things we talked about, but yeah, just fine.

SPEAKER_01

The chocolate wasn't overly well, it wasn't very nice, was it? Let's be honest.

SPEAKER_00

I think that's I think you you said it earlier with it, but where it says milk cocoa, but yeah, I think it maybe that's what it is, it's just not classed as chocolate anymore.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the milk cocoa part of it was not wasn't unpleasant. If I really wanted chocolate and that's all they had, I would eat it.

SPEAKER_00

But Toblerone chocolate is a different level, and that Toberone chocolate's nice normally, and that that chocolate wasn't that nice, it was fine, but you are. I think you you get what you pay for in this situation, which is it was 75p. If I wanted Toblerone and I had that, I got that because I saw that there, and I was like, Oh, give it a try. I'd be bitterly disappointed.

SPEAKER_01

Disappointed, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

If I just wanted a chocolate bar, I'd be very meh, it's fine on there. It's it's it's a cheap chocolate bar. But yeah, I think unfortunately, you just you're just gonna have to either wait to Christmas and get the Audi version or buy real toe blowing, isn't it? Yeah, that's all.

SPEAKER_01

It's it it had very, very tiny bits of nugget and very, very tiny bits of nut in there.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, that's true.

SPEAKER_01

There was a very tiny little crunch going on, not like your normal own version.

SPEAKER_00

Nothing getting stuck in your teeth in there. No. No, you're right. That is a very good point. It was very smooth the whole way because all the bits were very, very small.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, very small. It it wasn't a particularly pleasant. It was okay. It was okay. I'm not gonna say it was horrible because it wasn't, but it just wasn't a Tobra and and it it's not even making a good passing attempt at being one, I don't think.

SPEAKER_00

And we're coming up to a score. I can tell you, even at 75p.

SPEAKER_01

Which is cheap as chips, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. That is cheap, but I just I still don't think it's good value, you know, at 75p. It's just not that good.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think I'd be picking that up again.

SPEAKER_00

No, what what would you give it as a score then out of 10?

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna go four.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm I'm gonna join you at four. Yeah, I just was disappoint. I think the price is a two-way factor. Like if it's cheap and it's not very nice, it kind of almost is what it is. And you think, oh no, that's disappointing. That's even more disappointing because we want value these days. You want something cheap that that outperforms itself, and that didn't. That that was cheap and it tasted it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it did. It did taste cheap.

SPEAKER_00

That's what it is, it's cheap and it tasted it.

SPEAKER_01

I think I was put off from the start when it said it was a cocoa.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, milk cocoa. They'd just done it with chocolate.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It probably would have been decent then, but then it probably would have been two or three times the price, wouldn't it?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I think you know, if they doubled the price and made it a better product, you you'd buy it then, wouldn't you? But yeah, but I can see why it probably ended up in BM then. They've probably tried it somewhere else and it not worked, but yeah, well, that is a shame.

SPEAKER_01

It is, because I was looking forward to that. I love a Toborone, and if you love a Toborone, I would suggest you don't buy that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, still very clear from it. Um, but yeah, so that is disappointing, but we must move on, and um we'll go into our fox's chocolatey rounds salted caramel. Now, I normally like a fox's chocolatey round.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

I will admit I don't tend to buy them outside of Christmas, just typically they're a biscuit I associate with Christmas. Um not much to dislike when it's a what they call shortcake biscuit, but you know, covered in shortcake biscuit chocolate covered in a yeah, exactly, a thick layer of chocolate. It's normally pretty delicious, isn't it?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, nothing not to like. Well, hopefully, it's the salted caramel flavour that might be the issue for me.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. No, I agree because it uh I mean there's no caramel there, so it must just all be, I'm assuming, artificial flavouring.

SPEAKER_01

I'm guessing the chocolate is salted caramel flavour.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, salted caramel flavour shortcake biscuits coated in milk chocolate.

SPEAKER_01

Oh well, that's different. That might be alright then. Uh they were £1.25 in Sainsbury's.

SPEAKER_00

Well, that's not too bad when you consider it.

SPEAKER_01

I think it was a nectar price.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, and the normal ones were the same price as well.

SPEAKER_00

When you get eight b eight biscuits in a in a thing, yeah. But one pound that's not too bad, really, for a premium brand.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I say premium, they're you know fox's biscuits are the best, aren't they?

SPEAKER_00

They are they do they're often very good.

SPEAKER_01

They do, I think they do the best biscuits.

SPEAKER_00

They do very nice ones, and so high high hopes in that regard. Um, packaging-wise, it looks very similar to the plain ones, but as you get over to the right side where the picture of the rounds are, is a very nice, I don't know, teal colour, would you say? Yeah, which has often been the salty caramel colour. You think the Kit Cats and other things have got have got that there, so that kind of um teal colour uh on that. I think it looks quite nice, very classy as the foxes often.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that that is a classic, classy, classy package in there.

SPEAKER_00

It is. Um, and as I said to you before, it's salty caramel flavour shortcake biscuits coated in milk chocolate.

SPEAKER_01

Go on, how many bits of chocolate? Chocolate, though.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, exactly. We found it sounded lacking so far today, isn't it? Our third bit of chocolate, and we've only had it. This is the first one we've seen. So it says eight servings per pack.

SPEAKER_01

So one biscuit is a serving.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, foxes. Yeah, that do we commend them for putting that on there or do we wish they did not left it on?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I'm I'm very glad they didn't say it was anything any less, but I do think they are taking taking.

SPEAKER_01

Well, how many calories in one biscuit then?

SPEAKER_00

Well, this is even this is I'm not gonna do the mass here because it's more difficult. It's 130 grams on a thing, yeah, yeah. And there's eight biscuits, but it's values per hundred grams is the only one they give you. Right, okay, so oh no, I'll tell a lie. On the very front, touching the bottom corner, they haven't done traffic light, they've just they've made it black. Each biscuit is 85 calories.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, so you can have one of these or a blue ribbon.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Well, let's see which we prefer.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. And yeah, I mean it's just it's fox, it's a fox's chocolatey round.

SPEAKER_01

I like these, you know, when you get your selection maximum.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. That's why I associate them with Christmas.

SPEAKER_01

These are one of the first ones to go, aren't they?

SPEAKER_00

I feel like they were originally in those and then they became a separate thing, but maybe maybe not. Um, but either way, that's why I associate them with Christmas is because they're part of that pack or something very similar, is um, yes, and I will say Marks and Spencer's do some nice ones. Uh they do their extremely chocolatey ones that are you know almost more chocolate than biscuit, and they're quite nice. But maybe that's maybe that'd be a Christmas show. Testing all the Christmas biscuits.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, if we must.

SPEAKER_00

I know it it's it's a hard job, this. But yes, right, let's give these a go. Nice to try some real chocolate.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it was, wasn't it? Yeah, and that was nice chocolate.

SPEAKER_00

It was nice chocolate, yeah. For milk chocolate, it was it was it was just nice, wasn't it? Um yeah. You definitely can tell that the others weren't, or at least particularly that last Montana bar was in comparison, but no, enjoyed that. It's very subtle salted caramel flavour. Yes, but I think that that worked in its favour.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, I I I was worried thinking that it would be salted caramel flavoured chocolate, but it wasn't. With the biscuit being salted caramel flavour, I think that a normal chocolate that works so much better.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, because artificial flavours can be very empowering, and that there wasn't, which was good. They it was a nice light amount. The chocolate was nice, the biscuit was nice. That's a very nice biscuit.

SPEAKER_01

Nice, nice crisp biscuit, lovely thick coating of very nice proper chocolate.

SPEAKER_00

I know, and we shouldn't have to be so excited to finally try chocolate, but we are, and um no, really enjoyed that actually. Um yeah, I thought that was good. I still think I'd probably just go for the normal one.

SPEAKER_01

I agree.

SPEAKER_00

There was it wasn't enough of a reason to swap, and actually, I suppose in some ways took away a little bit because it gave you something extra, and actually, it's kind of the perfect ratio in there. Yeah, but if you are someone who really likes salted caramel, well actually, you know, if you really like it, might be. Yeah, so I would say it's a nice biscuit, but almost they played it too safe, if you know what I mean. Yeah. I think on there. So yeah, uh it's nice.

SPEAKER_01

It it's a very nice biscuit, and the chocolate was very nice.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and so at 125, what would you score it?

SPEAKER_01

I'd go 6.5. Nice biscuit, nice price, nice chocolate. Would I pick it up again? If it was still on offer, possibly.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, fair enough.

SPEAKER_01

But again, I might probably reach for the normal ones, the original ones, if it's still on offer. Yeah. Otherwise, I'll wait till Christmas and they come in a multi-pack.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, and I I and I'm gonna go similar, but I'm gonna go with a six. Um again, still like liked it more than I didn't um on that. I don't think you know 125 is a bad price. I think that's good at that price, I think they're good. But I I just think every time I would pick up the original. Whereas the blue ribbons, even though I had favourites at least, I'd be happy to try all of them again and pick up different ones each time. But this one, I think I would just pick up the regular ones every time on there. So, yeah, if you want to try something a little bit different, but within the realms of flavours that you know, potentially, yeah. Um, but yeah, I'm not 100% sure who it's for, if you see what I mean, because if you like sorted caramel, it's a bit too subtle to be sorted caramel.

SPEAKER_01

You you just about get it through the delicious chocolate, exactly.

SPEAKER_00

But overall, all the components were good. Yeah, it's just that together it kind of makes something that I was a bit like, I don't know if I'd pick that up again. Still very nice though.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it it foxes it's a it's a decent biscuit and it was nice chocolate.

SPEAKER_00

Was that in crisp biscuit because again sometimes you can get a bit soggy on things, yeah, but but they didn't, which is good.

SPEAKER_01

No, it's it's it's they're they're good at what they do, foxes.

SPEAKER_00

They are so yes, so six and a six point five. Not too bad, but not you know, not great, not the best, and that brings on it. It was nice. It was nice, it was nice, and that brings on to our final item, which is the Oreo and BTS collaboration with the brown sugar pancake flavour. Now, it actually doesn't say it anywhere on here, but I think that BTS is the band BTS, right? K-pop band BTS. Um and I I don't know, can you Google it for me? Because I'm just looking at it going, there's actually nothing to say on here other than it just says Oreo BTS. And again, I'm assuming brown sugar pancake, some Korean writing, that makes a lot of sense. But there's not normally there's a bit more promotional stuff, you know. Um an advert for their tour or something like that, but there's there's nothing um on here to give you any other information.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Okay, I think you according to this the Oreo BTS cookies um are inspired by the Korean street food hotyok.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but that's the flavour, isn't it? Is the BTS the actual band, like the collaboration with the band?

SPEAKER_01

It says it's BTS's signature colour.

SPEAKER_00

Which yeah, that makes sense. Yeah. Which we'll get to in a second.

SPEAKER_01

Um there's custom BTS member engravings on the cookies.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, is there? Okay. Oh yeah, I suppose they are different each time. Oh yeah, I can see it. Jim and John Cook Young Cook, whatever his name is, RM. Yeah, okay, so it is the band then. Now I should have looked at the cookie. There we go. Um oh, and they're different on each one, it's got the different logos as well. So one of them has all of them, says BTS and has got their names around it. Um and one of the uh and then the others have got different of their logos, which Army will recognise. That's maybe our fans version of it.

SPEAKER_01

I'll say that bit because I don't have interest.

SPEAKER_00

13 years of them being together, I think. Wow, they're 13 years, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So 13 years they've been together, and I personally, but then I'm old, have never heard of them. But you knew I knew them straight away, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You knew them straight away, didn't you? They have not long come back from hiatus because they were I didn't say they fell foul, that probably sounds like the wrong way, but they had to abide by South Korea's um mandatory national service laws. So even though they were the biggest band in the world, it was they all got drafted. Um so they had to spend, I don't know if it's a year or two years. I think they slightly spread them out or any, but anyway, they're all out now, and they're just on a massive world tour right now.

SPEAKER_01

Right. They include 13 unique collectible cookie embossments designed by the band.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you could there you go.

SPEAKER_01

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

There we are. That's in you will have recognised one of their songs. I think it was Dynamite or Butter was on the Google Adverts, I think, a couple of years ago. It was like so all summer you would have heard it on there.

SPEAKER_01

Do you know? I am a bit worried because they're purple.

SPEAKER_00

Well, so yeah, so getting into it now after we've established that, they are bright purple, and I mean the cookies themselves, and people normally Oreos are a brown that's almost black, isn't it? But though these are purple, I mean, yeah, and well, and if you look at inside, there's two swirls of flavouring. Yeah, you see, one is a very light colour, and the other one is like a golden brown sugary caramel colour.

SPEAKER_01

They do smell nice, they smell nice.

SPEAKER_00

So if I read off the packet, they it purple is an odd colour for food, I think. It is so it says here that it is biscuit with caramelised pancake flavour and vanilla flavour fillings. So I'm going to assume that. Yeah, so that well, I'm gonna assume the lighter colour is more standard Oreo, because that's a vanilla flavour filling, isn't it? And then the brown one is the brown sugar, yeah. What did I say? It was did I say brown sugar? Yeah, brown sugar pancake, caramelized pancake flavour. The name of the whole thing is brown sugar pancake flavour. But yes, um, yeah, it I think it's hard to get over the colour initially, isn't it? Look at it. So the the packaging is quite nice, you know. It's it's Oreo packaging, they've made it darker and added like purple neon lights almost looking with the different um artwork that's on each of the cookies.

SPEAKER_01

But is it um is that the colour of the biscuits on the packaging?

SPEAKER_00

I'd that's it, yes. Yeah, so the colour of the biscuit on the packaging is purple, but I will say in different lights, it almost looks like it's just sort of it's hard to tell is it purple or is it like a dark, like black kind of colour? But no, it is purple. Um there, and it says Oreo BTS on it. I will say, I do think unless you know who they are and everything that it really doesn't give you much to tell it's a band.

SPEAKER_01

No, so I mean I I was drawn to the brown sugar pancake reference because I thought, oh, that sounds different.

SPEAKER_00

And it does, it does sound different, but yeah, they um I I am a bit surprised that they didn't lean more into it with either pictures of the van or something. Normally there's like a giveaway or something, isn't it? Like you know, win tickets to their concert. Again, this might be a little bit older, but there we go. Anyway, I I I just want to try them because they're purple.

SPEAKER_01

Like I don't want to say purple, they're really nice, they just look that purple with the it's like a strong lilac colour with a vanilla and a sort of pale brown, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Browny one inside. Yeah, it yeah, this this is the kind of thing you know. Remember when Heinz used to do those, they did those weird colour ketchup with like green and purple ketchups. It was always unsettling, wasn't it? Yeah, and that's the same here. So, yeah, I think we should just try them at this point because they smell delicious, they just look uh arresting. You look at it and you're like, What's that? That colour can't be good for the body, but yeah, let's give them a go, shall we?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, okay. I'm shocked by how nice that was.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I I really enjoyed that, and and again, didn't expect to, probably because of the colour.

SPEAKER_01

The colour put me right off, I'm not gonna lie.

SPEAKER_00

But it really did come across that kind of brown sugar pancake. I I I thought about in the UK, like scotch pancakes, kind of that with a bit of maple syrup or something like that. That's kind of how I when I was tasting it was relating to it. Um, I yeah, but really nice. Not it's quite sweet, it is, but not in a bad way. Not in a bad way, but it didn't have that normal slight bitterness you get with an Oreo cookie because where it looks like it's been well overcooked. Well, if it's the same biscuit, I'd be surprised just because it really just didn't taste like that, but maybe it's just because it interacted with the flavours better. Just really nice.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it it was lovely. The the the filling was really nice. The biscuit, like you say, didn't seem to have the dark, bitter taste. It's got to be a different flavour biscuit, although it doesn't say so, does it?

SPEAKER_00

Just says biscuit on the packet, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I think it's a I mean it's an Oreo shape and it's an Oreo standard crispy biscuit, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, crunchy biscuit, but the filling was very nice, yeah, very well flavoured because it wasn't again, it wasn't overpowering. The vanilla and the the the what did I say the other one was caramelized? Caramelized pancake flavour, worked really well together, and it just yeah, it all worked well together. I I yeah, I'm really impressed by that.

SPEAKER_01

I like that. I like they were, I don't think I said before, um they were a pound from Sainsbury's pound and from Sainsbury's.

SPEAKER_00

Wow. That for for a pound, I think that's pretty good to be sure.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's that's a really nice biscuit.

SPEAKER_00

That is a very nice biscuit, and with that, how knowing they're a pound as well, how what would you score them?

SPEAKER_01

Seven.

SPEAKER_00

Seven.

SPEAKER_01

Seven.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm gonna go seven point five up there. I I I would actually say I probably prefer that to a normal Oreo. Now I will admit I I like I do normally like the flavoured Oreos to a regular Oreo because um a regular one, I think there isn't enough flavour to get over the bitter biscuit, which is why I think their entire advertising campaign is about dipping it in milk to get rid of try and get rid of that bitterness on the biscuit. But I like I do like a lot of the flavours. We've tried a few of them, yeah. Um, but that might be my favourite one.

SPEAKER_01

That it was surprisingly nice. I the only thing to me is the colour. I can't get over the colour.

SPEAKER_00

No, so yes, if we if we go back to that, that is is true. The colour is it's aggressive, and when so when you look at it, it is a little bit off-putting. Now I'm sure I'd get over it after a couple, but it definitely is off-putting to see something that colour purple on your plate.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, it is.

SPEAKER_00

Not in front of you. So eat it with your eyes closed.

SPEAKER_01

But probably the best way, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But it was delicious, it's really nice after flavour as well. Like you've got this just nice pancakey caramelly, it doesn't sound it doesn't taste artificial, does it?

SPEAKER_01

It's quite a nice flavour.

SPEAKER_00

Just a very nice flavour, and it's left in your mouth. Your mouth feels almost like warm with it in in a nice way. So, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Happy mouth, yeah, it's got happy mouth.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, happy mouth. Um, yeah, I'm impressed with that. So, yeah, well done, Aria. Well done, BTS. Um, and that is the end of the tasting rounds. And it means we move into our final segment, Debbie's fun facts. Debbie's fun facts.

SPEAKER_01

Well, this week.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

This week I'm talking about bananas.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, bananas.

SPEAKER_01

Bananas are berries.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Did you know that?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

No. Um bananas are berries, they are all developed from the ovary of a grower and have three layers skin, flesh, skin, uh flesh that we eat, and the seeds. Sometimes you can eat the skin, sometimes you can't. Sometimes you can eat the seeds, and sometimes you can't. Um but yes, banana.

SPEAKER_00

Berries, well, I I I guess banana is the answer, but I'll say what berries do you not eat the skin of? I guess bananas, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um bananas, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Do kiwis sound count as a berry then because of that?

SPEAKER_01

No, pumpkins and lemons are berries.

SPEAKER_00

Oh.

SPEAKER_01

But um, yeah, raspberries aren't berries. Funnily enough. What? This is but another fun fact about bananas is that they float in water.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I said I've got over the fact that you said raspberries aren't berries.

SPEAKER_02

It's in the name.

SPEAKER_00

It's in the name. But I suppose it's one of these things about categories of like vegetables and fruit, yeah, being tomatoes being a fruit. Fruit, yeah. Um, and everything. But yeah, I mean that is interesting. I mean they float in water, okay. So when I'm lobbing them, that they'll float for the dot ducks, well they won't sink. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

No, they won't sink.

SPEAKER_00

Do they float in water with the skin on or without?

SPEAKER_01

With the skin on, I'm guessing. Okay, right. Okay, so then maybe I don't know about without ducks, yeah. I mean, you could try and let us know.

SPEAKER_00

I I suppose I could.

SPEAKER_01

Another thing is that the skin from a banana is said to relieve the itching from mosquito bites. So if you get bitten by a mosquito, you can eat a banana and um rub the skin on your bites.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. That's that's very interesting, there.

SPEAKER_01

They are also the world's oldest fruit dating back more than 10,000 years.

SPEAKER_00

So is that oldest recorded that we eat or oldest that that was like found, if you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01

Oldest that there's any record of, I'm guessing. Oh that we found, okay. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, that's that's interesting.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, and eating bananas can also help your nervous system, restore tired muscles, restore tired muscle tissues, and boost bored brains. I'm not sure eating a banana would help my brain, but yeah, I'm not sure that would invigorate it.

SPEAKER_00

I know I'd I'd probably still be bored, but yeah, I was just eating a banana.

SPEAKER_01

I'd be bored about having just eaten a banana.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly, yeah. Yeah, I know. Oh no, that's a good one. I like that. Um and raspberries not being berries is raspberries aren't berries.

SPEAKER_01

Bananas, pumpkins and lemons are berries, but raspberries aren't.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah. We need to petition to get the name changed. Exactly. Well, thank you for that fun fact. That was fun. And there was actually a few facts thrown in there.

SPEAKER_01

It was all about the bananas, but who knew they were so good at all?

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. There you go. Well, thank you for that, and thank you everybody for listening and tuning in this week. Um, it'll be up should be up normal time. And yeah, thank you, and we'll hopefully see you next week.

SPEAKER_02

Take care. Take care, everyone. Bye.
