So I am going to tell you what happened Sunday, though, after you know, we had spent the night recording and we were over at my mom's house. And my my beautiful oldest child went to 4-H camp this week. Well, she found out where her camp was located. Now she had listened to the entire recording process the night before. Needless to say, stop touching the damn microphone. Needless to say, my child got super freaked out that she was actually going to be on the college campus next to this location. And then, you know, my my loving stepdad was like, oh wait, just wait until she finds out where they keep the bodies. So my child was terrified to have to spend a couple of days at 4-H camp at the University of Tennessee.

Who Was Colleen Slemmer

let's get going. So today I am going to tell you about the murder of Colleen Slemmer. Now, Colleen was 19 years old in January of 1995. I'm gonna be completely honest. Do you not remember any of it? I do not remember most of it. Even better. Nice. Don't drink, y'all. I mean, do drink. Drink responsibly. Drink responsibly. We did not. So I broke a glass. You did. And I have it on video. All right. So in September of 1994, Colleen made the trip from Jacksonville, Florida, where she lived with her mom and her stepdad, to Knoxville, Tennessee to start the Job Corps program. She was going in for computer science techie stuff, as well as getting her GED. Now Colleen had been diagnosed with some learning, you know, disabilities. And from everything that I found, it sounds kind of like dyslexia. Yeah, very smart girl though. So the whole reason that she was coming to Knoxville was because they did not offer that program in the Job Core Center in Jacksonville. So, you know, within a couple of weeks, you know, she had been there. She calls her mom and she's like, this place is a little sketchy. You know, like I'm I'm not sure about this mom. And she's saying that, you know, there's a couple of students, you know, a couple of fellow students there that are causing some problems, just really coming after her for no reason. Her room's been broken into. She has woken up to somebody standing over her holding a knife. That she reported. Her mom's like, look, you can't leave. You signed a contract. It's only six months.

Like right. Well, here's the thing, and this is what Colleen's mother, Mae Martinez, didn't know. The Job Corps campus was in a renovated hotel. Basically, that's you know, their dorms were hotel rooms. Outside and inside, the walls were covered in vulgar graffiti. Nobody was really policing these kids. And I mean, the program goes from like ages 16 to 24, I believe.

With with very minimal supervision. Like they had to sign in and out to leave the campus and stuff like that. But Colleen, she does, she goes and reports it. And she's like, hey, you know, this is going on. And the the counselor dude is like, all right, I'll look into it.

Yeah. So, you know, Colleen sticks it out. She's like, you know, it's it's six months.

I signed this contract, and isn't this like um her last like this is not necessarily like her her last you know shot, but it is she knows that if she wants any kind of success career-wise, she needs her GD. Yeah, and she needs, you know, the training.

And this kind of seems like the best way to the best opportunity for it.

So, you know, she's like, okay, I'm gonna stick it out. And, you know, a couple more phone calls with her mom, you know, over the next few months. And during their their Christmas break, she went to Pennsylvania to see her dad for the holidays. And she, you know, gets back to Tennessee. She's only got a couple of weeks left of the program before she gets her GED and her certifications, all of that stuff. And she calls her mom on the night of January 12th, 1995. And it's just a quick phone call. Just like, hey, you know, touch and base real quick. You know, can't talk long. I'm getting ready to meet up with, you know, three of the other students here, and we're gonna go to Blockbuster, get a movie, and I'll talk to you later. Yeah, love you bye.

So, like just a simple hey, life update. No, not even life update. Not even life update, just like hey, I'm going out to do this. Yeah. It kind of sounds like to me, it just sounds like she was like just kind of a little check-in. Little check-in and like letting someone know what's gonna be like and her mom said, you know, later that she sounded like high spirits, like nothing, you know, was wrong. Like, so she was gen genuinely like ex-I wouldn't say excited. Not also excited, but she wasn't like she was kind of like you know upbeat, just like, hey, something is right, like I'm hanging out with people.

Like, did she have any fri friends or it's it's assuming she had some friends? But the thing is, is that even when she would have these phone calls with her mom, when she was like, There's students that are you know causing issues and coming after me. Oh, I'm going out to blockbuster with these three friends, yeah, she never gave names. So this ended up being the last time that Mae Martinez talked to her daughter. And you know, as a mom that is unimaginable, because you know, at this point, Colleen's only six years older than my oldest kid. You know, and from what you know I could kind of gather through the research, you know, very much like you know, my 13-year-old, tall, blonde, you know, very sweet, very caring, bubbly, outgoing personality. So, you know, Colleen did not know that when she hung up with her mother that that was gonna be it. You know, she really thought that she was kind of trying to turn over a new leaf with this, you know, group that she was going out with, and she may have had some reservations about it.

But also sounds like she was like she's trying to be optimistic, she's trying to be like, you know what, maybe um finally time to bury the hatchet, like and just move on, and maybe she'll get some lifelong friends out of it. Right.

Because what I haven't told you guys yet is that the three teenagers that she was going to blockbuster with are the ones that were making her life hell a few months earlier. So I'm gonna go ahead and start telling you about them. And we have one main character out of these three. This is the ringleader of this group. So, our main character.

Krista Pike’s Background And Warning Signs

But what what will hopefully happen a little bit later this year totally does. So our main character is Krista Gail Pike. She was born on March 10th of March 10th. She was born in March of 1976. So in January or in September of 1994, when she entered the job core program, she was 18.

Now, here's a little background on her. She comes from West Virginia, divorced parents. They married, divorced, married, divorced. I know at least her mother deals with some addiction issues, very much alcohol, possibly drugs, not a hundred percent sure. Krista was born premature, and some reports are saying it was due to her mother's alcohol abuse.

So they never had much of a motherly bond because her mom was too busy partying. Okay. Now at the age of two, Carissa is once again divorced from Krista's dad. And signs over custody of her baby to her former mother-in-law. I believe her name was Delpha Pike. Now, Krista lived with her grandmother, and I've I've seen it two different ages, either eight or twelve. So potentially up to ten years, living with her paternal grandmother who doted on her, who, you know, spent time with her, cared for her.

She took on that motherly role for her grandchild. She stepped up for the child. Exactly. And at either eight or twelve, because I've I've gotten two different ages, Delpha passes away. And Krista is then sent to live with one of her parents. So she did a lot of back and forth between her mom, Carissa, and her dad, Glenn. Her dad finally, you know, he had remarried, he had another child, another little girl that was, I believe, about two years old. Krista was 12, 13 of age range.

They have just murdered a 19-year-old girl that was just trying to improve her situation in life. And he was just trying to be nice. And Krista is so proud of herself that she looks down at Colleen and she sees, you know, little skull fragment. And she picks it up and puts it in her pocket. And then proceeds to dance around doing a little sing song, whatever, celebrating that she has just murdered the girl that she considered the rival for her man's affections. Now at this point, Zach is completely locked in and disengaged at the same time. It's emanating. So our little band of misfits, murderous misfits, at this point.

Knoxville PD is called, UT campus police is called, they come in and start roping off the crime scene. Right. They start their investigation. One investigate investigator was quoted as saying he knew where her face was supposed to be, but he couldn't find it. Now she did take a plea deal and became a state's witness and got six years of probation to be served in her hometown of Cleveland, Tennessee. So she's the only one that didn't see serious jail time, if any. And in all actuality, she was just the lookout. So I can't really blame them.

We can go on. So we're gonna skip forward from 1996 to 2001. In June of 2001 and in 2002, Krista asked that her the courts drop all of her appeals and go ahead and schedule her execution. Now she's been in prison five years. Four or five years at this point. Her lawyers are like, no, bitch, like stop it. You don't want to do this. And the court's like, no, she can do it. It's part of her right. So they schedule her execution for August 19th of 2002. Well, July 8th of 02, Krista changes her mind. So just over a month before she's supposed to fry.

But now here's the thing even while she's like, you know what? Fry me. Never mind, changed my mind. She attempts to murder one of her fellow inmates with a shoelace by strangling this woman. She got her to the point of unconsciousness. And in 2003, she is charged with attempted first-degree murder and a sentence to 25 years. A recorded phone call with her mother. Yeah, I premeditated it. I pre-meditated the hell out of it.

But he states witness, all that bullshit. And they can't prove that Crystal Pike knew anything about it. There's nothing directly tying her to it.

What she did not know is that that was not the full remains of her child. They had kept Colleen Slimmer's skull, reconstructed it, and used it as states evidence.
