Gheseha for Iranian Children!
When I was a child in Iran, I was read wonderful stories (gheseha) by my mother and sister, oh and sometimes Parvin joon usually before bedtime. I remember asking for another and another, but was was told only one at night before I would have to go to sleep. I want to share a few of those gheseha in the hope that all Iranian children will enjoy them as I did, but only one at a time before bedtime. These gheseha were written or compiled by Mojgan Sheikhie. There are 365 of them, one for every night of the year. I left Iran when I was eleven years old, but my father asked me to read Iranian books and newspapers whenever I could. Despite all my efforts or, as my father would probably think, lack thereof, my Farsi leaves a great deal to be desired. However, if I can understand these gheseha, so can your children. Just be to safe, I have added an English abstract at the end of each story.

A wee mouse wants to go to a festival of cheese and cookies only to be told by her mum that she has to take care of an old and sickly crow. Despite her tremendous disappointment she goes to the crow’s house and makes her what we would call a hot toddy and cleans her house. The wee mouse feels great about herself and a silver coin and a beautiful ring that the crow gives her is just a cherry on top of the cake!

So this one is a very fable-like story about a wee mouse who wants to go to a festival, a festival of cheese and cookies. Now, some of the translation from Far C to English leaves a great deal to be desired, such as the only thing I can think of is a festival, festival of cheese and cookies that the wee mouse wanted to go to. Anyway, um, she wants to go to this festival, only to be asked by her mom to go and take care of an old, fussy, bad-tempered crow. The wee mouse, even though very disappointed, does above and beyond what her mom asks, only to be rewarded despite feeling great about herself to begin with. By the way, the wee mouse made a herbal tea for the crow called the juice ande, which with little translation farsi means it's juche means that it's boiling, it's boiling. Boil in Farsi. I have this on good authority from a much more learned childhood friend of mine, but my farsi fails me. Um so that that's the end of our second story. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you.
