Gheseha for Iranian Children!
When I was a child in Iran, I was read wonderful stories (gheseha) by my mother and sister, oh and sometimes Parvin joon usually before bedtime. I remember asking for another and another, but was was told only one at night before I would have to go to sleep. I want to share a few of those gheseha in the hope that all Iranian children will enjoy them as I did, but only one at a time before bedtime. These gheseha were written or compiled by Mojgan Sheikhie. There are 365 of them, one for every night of the year. I left Iran when I was eleven years old, but my father asked me to read Iranian books and newspapers whenever I could. Despite all my efforts or, as my father would probably think, lack thereof, my Farsi leaves a great deal to be desired. However, if I can understand these gheseha, so can your children. Just be to safe, I have added an English abstract at the end of each story.

An ant and a wasp become neighbors. The wasp can’t understand why the ant works so hard to store food and thinks the ant is greedy. The ant tells the wasp that the food is for a rainy day. The wasp takes the ant on one of his journeys to eat food and despite being warned by the butcher to stop eating his meats he continues and loses one of his wings. The ant teaches the wasp a lesson in humility and grace!

So this is yet another one of fable like stories. An ant and a wasp find them find themselves living in the same tree. The wasp is amazed at the amount of work the ants do, especially this one, to store food and thinks that the ant does this out of greed. The ant tries to explain that he does this for when food is scarce. The wasp insists that the ant come with him to watch how he eats delicious foods, and he doesn't care because tomorrow he can do the same thing. Better yet, he decides to take the ant on one of his journeys for food to show the ant how easy it is. They go to a butcher shop and the wasp lands on the meat hanging from the hooks and eats, but is she away by the butcher. He doesn't take heed and goes back only to be hit by the butcher's long knife, losing one of his wings. The ant takes that opportunity, much to wasp's dismay, to teach him a lesson in humility and grace.
