World Cup, NFL Trades and Top 12 Running Backs

SPEAKER_00

How are we doing, Joe?

SPEAKER_02

Dude, I want to talk about soccer. Um I'm obsessed.

SPEAKER_00

It's yeah, it's a sad day.

SPEAKER_02

4-1 to Belgium.

SPEAKER_00

Thought we had a chance.

SPEAKER_02

I think it's 1-1. Yeah, we thought it's a game. It's 1-1.

SPEAKER_00

Did kind of have high hopes, but from the start, we just didn't we didn't look good. We did not look good.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I mean, it's Spain, Argentina, England, Belgium.

SPEAKER_00

All the powerhouses.

SPEAKER_02

I thought Polistic would be a good thing.

SPEAKER_00

Bro, he didn't do anything.

SPEAKER_02

No, no. He he didn't he didn't perform.

SPEAKER_00

And then he hurts himself because he, you know, I mean, I guess it was accidental for him to kick the guy's heel, but it was sad. It was sad to watch him kinda.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, didn't you think it was funny that uh we got the guy back from the red card?

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

And then we just got destroyed.

SPEAKER_00

It honestly makes it that much worse. Like I I wish I wish we would have just had to, you know, keep it and we could have at least had an excuse, but damn, man. I mean, we we had our best our best lineup out there.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, let's be honest. Like, once the game was over last night, it kind of felt we were like, okay, we knew this was gonna happen. Yeah, like this wasn't, we weren't beating Spain in the semifinals going to the World Cup. I love the USA, I love the team, I love number 20, the guy that hits the free kicks. But you watch Argentina and you're like, this is insane. So Argentina, Spain, it's gonna be one of them. I I France cross the TV today, Argentina's down 2-0, 1-0 to Egypt. Oh, I I wish we could have seen this. Get home from work, they won 3-2. Messi had a goal in 85.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, Messi insane, man. Uh, it's just it I feel like they've already kind of had some really I mean, they did just have a close call. Yeah. Because that captain varied a team or whatever.

SPEAKER_02

I just want to let you know, um, as a fantasy football player, we just lost about every listener we have. I mean, we started the pod three minutes of soccer. I would like to apologize to everyone. I tried. Sorry. I I tried. Like I was trying to feel like I was into it, like we were into it. That whole conversation, I was dozing off. AJ Brown now plays for the Patriots. That's all I want to talk about. Yes, can we talk about our actual podcast, Carter? Um, full disclosure to everyone. First podcast. We've been playing it for two years. We have the wrong sim card. We only got 27 minutes.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, it's gotta be fire. We're gonna make the most of it, brother.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, AJ to the Patriots. Oh my gosh. See. What were you thinking when you saw that trip? I mean, we all knew it was coming, but AJ Brown with Drake May. Something to see.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, it was like, you know, he was obviously so unhappy last year with the team, and he just you knew he could perform like way better, but they weren't utilizing him. And now he's going to Drake May, who, you know, was somewhat in the MVP running last year.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah. I think they ball. I think they ball out. Um, Drake May throws deep. Oh, yeah when AJ Brown's healthy, and he's accurate as hell. Think about it. Think about what Drake May was doing with Kayshawn Booty. Mac Hollins.

SPEAKER_00

Demario Douglas.

SPEAKER_02

Demario Douglas. Steph Diggs. Hunter Henry.

SPEAKER_00

Don't don't sleep on my boy Hunter. Oh, yeah. He's uh he's uh always a late round. Just steal. Because no one ever drafts him.

SPEAKER_02

No, no, no. He's undrafted every year and he gets you the one touchdown, and then you play him the next week, and he gets you like two or three. Okay, then you bench him. Sidebar right here, right now. Top three guys, random touchdown or they're nothing guys off the off the waiver wire, tight end. I got Juwan Johnson.

unknown

Classic.

SPEAKER_00

Dawson Knox.

SPEAKER_02

Dawson Knox. Hey, you know who. It's either touchdown or nothing. Is a classic. Jake Ferguson. Because it's gonna be all CD lamb or biggest. Alright, alright. I'm sorry. You got anyone else? Um. No, you got no one else. No, let's stay on topic. I can't. Um honestly, yeah. AJ Brown is big, but Miles Garrett plays for the Rams.

SPEAKER_00

That I I feel like that's just unfair.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, my world stopped.

SPEAKER_00

Like they're already really good. Then you just add what best defensive player in the league to their team.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah. Yeah. Can you imagine Stafford unfortunately goes three and out? McVay, they gotta punt the ball back, and they're on their own 20. And Miles Garrett just destroys Jacoby Brissett.

SPEAKER_00

Dude. It's gonna happen.

SPEAKER_02

The Rams are favored to win it all this year. I got a conspiracy theory slash hot take. I don't think the Rams are gonna like win it all. You you barely ever see that. The the team that has all the betting odds and miles, someone's gonna get hurt. It all rides on Stafford's back.

SPEAKER_00

You know, and he he's getting a little up there in age. So yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I mean, it is good to know um always that Sean McVeigh keeps uh one quarterback in the chamber. He's got Ty Simpson and Stetson Bennett. Can we just also, if we're discussing off-season, if the pop if the topic is off-season, 13 overall, the Rams go Ty Simpson.

SPEAKER_00

Dude, I I don't know. I don't know what they're what they saw. That that was wild to me.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, apparently McVeigh was telling Ty Simpson, don't tell anyone we're taking you. The crazy thing is to Sean McVeigh, no one was taking Ty Simpson to the third round.

SPEAKER_00

Come on now. It's just that's wild. I I'm curious to see how he how he actually does, because I don't really see that anything special about him.

SPEAKER_02

Oh no. I I mean I'm still a believer in Stetson. Dude, they drafted him through. Alright, alright. Too much on the Rams, too much on the Rams. Next trade. There's been a bunch of trades. What other trades you got? Carter's got AI, whatever AI app.

SPEAKER_00

DJ Moore to the Bills.

SPEAKER_02

DJ Moore to the Bills. I like that.

SPEAKER_00

I like it a lot too.

SPEAKER_02

I like it.

SPEAKER_00

Josh Allen finally has like I feel like uh I mean, I I guess I wouldn't put DJ Moore in like the top-tier category, but he's a lot better than what he's had to work with in the past.

SPEAKER_02

It's DJ Moore wide receiver one this year.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, if they utilize him like they should. It's just the only drawback, I guess, with the Bills is they kind of have a tendency to spread the ball around every game.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But I don't know if that was more so just due to the fact that they didn't really have like a true wide receiver one. So maybe DJ coming into the picture, he'll be able to take on like a bigger target share and move into the wide receiver one rankings.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, DJ Moore's not gonna be wide receiver one. We know how this goes. You get DJ Moore in the fourth round, and you're just like open for the best. I thought he was gonna be Stefan Diggs. I thought he was gonna be digs.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe not a wide receiver one. I think he's he's definitely got a solid shot at a wide receiver two, though.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, I want to circle back, by the way. Disrespectful you, Carter. Romeo Dobbs got traded to the Patriots, too. We're not talking about that. And he's a classic guy that no one wants him. Round 14. Waiver wire. Dobbs isn't getting drafted.

SPEAKER_00

And every year he'll have like a five or six game run where he's just putting up double digits every week.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah. And I think Romeo Dobbs is one of those sleepers this year. Um, I mean, what other trades? What is what has GPT got for us?

SPEAKER_00

Jalen Waddle to the Broncos. Whoa, that was insane. I like it. I like, I mean, I like all these so far. They've been feel like good moves. But what do you think? And how how will he fit in with the that Broncos offense?

SPEAKER_02

I mean, honestly, see, Sean Payton's unpredictable.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, he is.

SPEAKER_02

You could get Jalen Waddle, and he could be the best receiver in the league. Or no matter if they traded for him, Sean Payton will get mad if he doesn't run the right route. He'll be benched. Dude, so I love Jalen Waddle. I think it's to the moon this year. Lights out, draft Jalen Waddle in the fourth, fifth round. Everywhere you see him draft him. But don't get surprised.

SPEAKER_00

No, I I've gotten screwed too many times in the past by Sean Peyton? Well, just Oh, on Waddle. Every time I've drafted Waddle, he's either underperformed or gotten hurt. And it's always been like, you know, third, fourth round.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I mean, you know, he had Tua. Now he's got Bo Nicks.

SPEAKER_00

That's true. That's a that's a step.

SPEAKER_02

No, but let's be honest. If you had Jalen Waddle and Tyree Kill the first two years, insane.

SPEAKER_00

Oh. Tyreek Hills.

SPEAKER_02

Like Tyree Kill led the league in in receiving. Jalen Waddle, fresh in rookie season, led the league in receptions for a rookie. Next year, they're both wide receiver ones. The next two years after that, what Carter is talking about? We have PTSD. If you had Jalen Waddle last year or the year before, you had to pray that two would close his eyes, throw deep, he would catch it, he would have good games, but it wasn't the full Waddle.

SPEAKER_00

Well, and it wasn't consistent, so that's what made it tough. Is it's like you'd have some other receivers on your bench that you're like, you know, he's he's played pretty well the past couple weeks. Waddle's played like trash. I'm gonna I'm gonna put him in over Waddle, and then the week you do that, Waddle goes off for you know ten catches, 130 yards, two touchdowns.

SPEAKER_02

No, you're right. End are the days of thinking of benching Jalen Waddle, because that's what we had to do. And this trade says we're in. We're in, new start.

SPEAKER_00

As of right now.

SPEAKER_02

And what that says to me is guess who I get in the 14th round? Courtwin Sutton.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, dude. You see the true wide receiver, one of the teams.

SPEAKER_02

Sutton and Dobbs get touchdowns. Um, who what other trades we got?

SPEAKER_00

Justin Fields to the Chiefs.

SPEAKER_02

Hmm. So everyone's sleeping on this trade. I've thought the entire offseason that Fields to the Chiefs, if Mahomes happens to sit for the first two, three games, I know he's supposed to be healthy week one. Hear me out. Justin Fields in the Chiefs offense in the NFL opener would be insane.

SPEAKER_00

It'd be fun to watch.

SPEAKER_02

I'm starting him.

SPEAKER_00

I would too. And you I'm sure you can get him late. Probably don't even have to draft him.

SPEAKER_02

Don't have to draft him.

SPEAKER_00

Like I mean, I guess the last one is not as big as the uh first few we discussed, but Michael Pittman Jr. to oh yeah. To the Steelers. I mean pity. I don't know if that's an upgrade or downgrade. I mean, Daniel Jones was looking pretty pretty damn good last year.

SPEAKER_02

It's an upgrade. He's got Aaron Rodgers. Yeah. Now I I think Pittman's gonna be the classic five for 47 yards. Like he's got a touchdown. Yeah, we're not getting eight for 110 and a touchdown out of Pittman. Rodgers will give him six targets, four catches for, and I mean, I think with talking about Pittman, I I can't lie. I the Steelers trading for Pittman. That's one of the boringest things ever. Alec Pierce getting 141 million, dude. Being the wide receiver, Props to his agent. That is that is you know, he's never had over 47 catches. He's 47 catches, and he got like three years 110 million. That's I'm drafting Alec Pierce everywhere. I had him last year. No one drafts him, no one likes you slept on. Oh yeah. And don't I know people are trying to sell Josh Downs, and I I like Josh Downs.

SPEAKER_00

He kind of seems to be hurt a lot.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I don't know. But it's Alec Pierce season, it's always been and always has been.

SPEAKER_00

And with Pittman gone, yeah. I mean, it just kind of opens the door that much more for him.

SPEAKER_02

Now the real question is, is does DK Metcalf or Michael Pittman a wide receiver two this year? Carter, it's a podcast.

SPEAKER_00

DK, I think I think DK. I think DK.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he has to be. He's wide receiver 23.

SPEAKER_00

I just I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

I still I still believe in him, but I just I'll tell you straight up. I've never been a big Steelers guy for for fantasy football. I'll get Jalen Warren. Maybe maybe he'll be in like the eighth round, and I'll look over and I'll be like, well, Chubba Hubbard's there, and I'll get Chuba Hubbard. I've never been a Jalen Warren guy. Uh Braden, a guy we know. Uh Big Bray, Brady Bray. Huge Jalen Warren guy.

SPEAKER_00

Oh man.

SPEAKER_02

Brady loves the Steelers. Two Jalen Warren games a year, and it's just I mean, you would think Jalen Warren's Jameer Gibbs. And then Jalen Warren goes right back to being in a timeshare.

SPEAKER_00

And right when you start believing in him.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah. So, all right, man. Well, we've finally made it to the real purpose of our show. Fantasy football, fantasy football rankings. See, we all know it's about running backs.

SPEAKER_00

It is. It is. Joe and I are definitely big on the running backs early, that's for sure.

SPEAKER_02

How about the B-weag? It's just all running backs every round.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, they're pretty much all the all the starters. I'd say they're off the board by what? Like the sixth round, fifth round.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because most people are going running back, running back. I know Matt, I know MC. He's going running back, running back, receiver, running back, running back, quarterback. And Taco's doing the same thing. Um, so today we're here ranking the top 12 running backs. Um, this is consensus rankings, but you know, me and Carter might slash us uh our own opinion or two and say, no, I like this guy here. Number one, I hate to say it, Carter. Number one consensus, Jameer Gibbs. We got him over Bijan. Really? He's the number one consensus ranked running back this year. I don't blame anyone for taking Jameer Gibbs number one. David Montgomery has left to Houston.

SPEAKER_00

That that is huge. That is huge because he he took up a lot of those just kind of easy rushing touchdowns that Gibbs, you know, would get 80, 90 yards, trucking the ball down the field, and then they just kind of gave it to Montgomery near the goal line and let him score. Like it was it was sad sometimes just seeing him get vultureed so much. So I don't I don't disagree with that at all. I think him, I personally have Bichon number one.

SPEAKER_02

Yep, let's let's have that debate. So here's the thing is Bijan is probably a better running back, but Detroit's offense and Gibbs explosiveness, it's just right there one and two. You close your eyes and you click Bijan or Gibbs and you put your finger right in the middle on draft day, and you just you live with whatever.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean you can't be mad at either. Like, like they're both, I think, gonna be top five easily.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, yeah. In our uh auction draft, I was just it's just Gibbs, Bijan, and then everyone else. That that's its own auction uh draft for the that draft right there. But everyone knows Bijan and Gibbs one and two. Oh gosh. Don't say number three Christian McCaffrey, he's back everyone. If you pull up ESPN and you go to PPR 2025 rankings and you click Christian McCaffrey's name, it says one. Win healthy RB1. Carter, are you taking the Christian McCaffrey plunge this year? You have the fourth overall pick.

SPEAKER_00

I got him ranked number three, but yeah, no, I I see what you're saying. Because I a receiver could go before him.

SPEAKER_02

But no, but you're on the clock, Carter.

SPEAKER_00

I think, yeah. I think uh I don't know if I'd necessarily take him at four.

SPEAKER_02

Where are you taking McCaffrey?

SPEAKER_00

I'd take him towards the towards the end of the first round.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, if you can get McCaffrey with like the tenth pick.

SPEAKER_00

I would roll the dice. I'm I don't know if I'd be as hyped to you know use my fourth or even potentially fifth pick on him. Just knowing he's coming off a season where what he played almost every single game.

SPEAKER_02

You know what happens is he's got an RB1 season and then he gets hurt.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

He traveled. He traveled to Germany, he got the got the treatment, the Achilles is doing better. Um, but we all know it's either RB1 or RB89. There is no Christian McCaffrey RB13. Let's keep it moving. Jonathan Taylor, number four. That this is a consensus big four. I think Taylor's like the end of the tier. Taylor went nuclear last year.

SPEAKER_00

He's he's I feel like he's been slept on for a couple years, just thinking like, oh, he's old, like he's not he's not as relevant as he used to be, and then he's just been dominating, dominating people.

SPEAKER_02

Dude, he had the ankle thing. He had the ankle thing. We we left it alone a little bit. He was RB18, came back last year. There were times um he did 45 points in fantasy football, and then 53 points the next week.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_02

If you had uh Taylor, you were nine and oh, and then I don't think I had him in a single league. Yep, yep. I traded for him in a league. Um, it was awesome. But then towards the end of the season, he tailed off and he finished RB4. That's where we got him ranked.

SPEAKER_00

Still very solid, though.

SPEAKER_02

I think RB4. Those are the consensus. That's the boring, the old faithfuls, build your team around. Now let's get the second tiers crazy. James Cook five, Saquon Barkley six, Ashton Genty seven, Ken Walker eight. If that's not a crazy consensus ranking right now, like, dude, I got Devon Achan, I got Derrick Henry, but this is the list they gave us for consensus ranking. I love James Cook.

SPEAKER_00

I love him too.

SPEAKER_02

James Cook is a solid number five.

SPEAKER_00

That is And last year, I mean, dude, he he was unstoppable. I mean, again, I don't I don't think I had him in any league. No. I missed him. I missed Taylor.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I mean, the thing about James Cook is right when we say, I've been waiting to do this too. Right when we say he doesn't score touchdowns, 16 touchdowns leads the league. Leads the league in rushing. James Cook was a steal last year. You got him in round four. This year he's going in the first round. Yeah. Like 10th, 11th, 12th pick, and I think it's justified. Uh number six. I'm not looking at this AI list. I'm overriding what I just read. I think the consensus is Devon Achan. Everyone loves A-chan in fantasy football. The thing is, you got the coach from the Packers, you got Malik Willis. I'm personally out of the A-chan business this year, but he's one of the most exciting players. Are you like A-chan at six?

SPEAKER_00

I yeah, no, I I I think I think that it would be between him and Saquon. Yeah. For me.

SPEAKER_02

Um let's let's have that debate.

SPEAKER_00

Especially with AJ Brown moving on. There's gonna be more to go around in that offense. And with Saquon, you know, he he didn't he didn't have a bad season by any means last year. I mean he still played great, but like coming off this the season before when he was you know RB1. Um I think they you know kind of gave him a little bit of a break in a sense. But this year is when they can ramp it back up, and he's gonna have more opportunities to kind of score more points.

SPEAKER_02

Kevin Petulo's out, the offensive coordinator. It's Saquon to the moon. Um, folks, I got really funny news. I'm I'm looking at the time. See, we're already running up on time. First episode me and the bugs, but let's not let's not go out like that. We giving him top 12, we got a minute and a half. Genty, Ken Walker, Chase Brown, Amerion Hampton, Derrick Henry, Devon A. Chan. Folks, I said one name in there, and we're gonna leave him. We're gonna leave you with that. Derrick Henry. You're telling me I get Derrick Henry in the third round?

SPEAKER_00

I I would be uh thrilled with that. I don't know. I just he hasn't I he hasn't given me any reason not to still depend on him.

SPEAKER_02

Dude, there was ranking sites that had Derrick Henry as RB14 in the late third. What are you kidding? Tractor Cito?

SPEAKER_00

Dude, good luck tackling that guy. I mean, I don't I don't understand.

SPEAKER_02

If it's winter in Baltimore, 20 touchdowns, Derrick Henry. Also, Carter, we have 15 seconds left on our first episode. Tight end sleeper this year. My tight end sleeper, Mark Andrews. Let's work.

SPEAKER_00

Mark Andrews, um, Mike Gasecki.

SPEAKER_02

Who bangles? Bangles brought Gasecki back. Shout out, Taco, shout out, Ronnie. Great first episode. Let's see. What do you want to say to the listeners?

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, no, hope you guys enjoyed it. We're uh looking forward to you know doing more of these here uh on a weekly basis. I think we're gonna plan on dropping every Tuesday. So yeah, uh, hope you guys uh enjoyed it and peace up.

SPEAKER_02

Tuesday night. Look for us. The extra yard podcast.
