Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to say sorry for simply existing. Sorry for speaking. Sorry for needing. Sorry for taking up space. In this episode of My Healing Space, we gently trace where that habit began, and we begin to lay it down.
This is a soft and honest reflection for anyone who has spent too long shrinking to keep the peace. You will be reminded that your needs are not a burden, your voice is not too much, and you were never created to disappear.
Resting on Psalm 139 verse 14, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made,” this episode is an invitation to take back the apologies you never owed, and to stop saying sorry for the person God lovingly created you to be.
Find a quiet moment, breathe, and let these words meet you where you are.
Somewhere along the way, you learn to say sorry for simply existing, sorry for speaking, sorry for needing. Sorry for taking up space. You apologized when someone bumped into you. You apologized before asking a question. You apologized for your feelings as if having them was a mistake. You said sorry so many times that the words stopped meaning anything and started meaning please do not be upset with me. But I want you to think about where that began. You were not born apologizing. Somewhere. Someone made you feel that your needs were too much. Somewhere. Someone made their comfort your responsibility. Somewhere. You learned that staying small kept the peace, so you made yourself smaller and smaller until you almost disappeared. That was not humility. That was survival. And you do not have to survive like that anymore. Hear this gently tonight. You do not need to apologize for having a voice. You do not need to apologize for setting a boundary. You do not need to apologize for resting, for saying no, for changing your mind, for feeling what you feel. Not everything needs a sorry. Sometimes the honest words are thank you for waiting. Sometimes the honest words are this is what I need. Sometimes the honest words are no and nothing after it. You were not created to spend your life shrinking. You were created with purpose, with a voice, with a place in this world that no one else can fill. The God who made you did not make a mistake when he made you. So why have you been apologizing for the way he shaped you? The Bible says, I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm chapter 39, verse 14. So today, I take back the apologies I never owed. I release the habit of saying sorry for being myself. I release the fear that my needs make me a burden. I release the belief that I must earn my place by being small. I am allowed to take up space. I am allowed to speak. I am allowed to need things and ask for them without shame. And with God's help, I will stop apologizing for the person He lovingly created me to be. Amen.
