It's time to do that. Let's take a coffee. It's time for goodness sake. Goodness. It's coffee with Gordy. Hey, that's me.
SPEAKER_03Good morning and happy sixth day of July 2026. I'm Gordy Young and uh welcome to the Monday edition of Coffee with Gordy. Uh starting a little bit late this morning, having some technical difficulties. I have no idea. Everything was working perfectly about 10-15 minutes ago. And then something happened and uh started getting a message here and there that I couldn't uh get this. You know, I have a camera outside uh the bird camera, and uh for whatever reason it's not working today. And when I try to make it work, it gives me this uh this uh message that says your browser can't access your devices, close any other applications that you might be using your camera or microphone for, like Skype or Zoom. Does anybody use Skype anymore? Uh then refresh the page. If that doesn't work, try restarting your browser or computer. Well, I'm not gonna I I did try starting restarting my browser, but I didn't want to go as far as restarting the computer this morning just because I thought, well, it can't be anything like that, but apparently it is, and I didn't didn't have time to restart the computer, so here we are. Let's check the weather anyway with our uh AI generated uh weather person, Luna. Good morning, Luna. How is your Monday going so far? Take your time responding.
SPEAKER_02Good morning, Gordy. Monday is off to a fine start, and I'm glad we're here together. As for the weather, right now in Madison, we're looking at sunshine and about 68 degrees. We'll warm up to about 85 this afternoon with clouds rolling in. So not a bad day to get that bird cam up and running again when you're ready, of course.
SPEAKER_03Well, you know, uh I I for whatever reason, I you know, this has never happened before. I I've never had a problem uh getting the other camera going. Uh do you ever have technical problems like that?
SPEAKER_02Oh, you know. Even as an AI, I've had my share pickup. Virtual ones, of course. Technology loves. I'm right here. Ready for whatever's next? Just let me know what you need.
SPEAKER_03All right, Luna. You stand by. I see that Catherine is actually uh joining us this morning. I wasn't sure if she would be able to do that, but here she is. Good morning, Catherine. Can you hear me okay?
SPEAKER_01I can hear you, but I don't know if you can hear me okay. I am the only human speaking on this entire aircraft except Baie. It is the quietest flight I've ever been on.
SPEAKER_03Are you actually in the air right now?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, just over Madison now, just taking off. Oh, well, let me look out the beautiful place.
SPEAKER_03Let me look out the window. Maybe I can see the plane flying over. Um, no, okay. Oh, wow, there's a good looking shot of Madison. And uh let's see. Well, that's one of the beautiful lakes.
SPEAKER_01I'm not sure which one, but uh is it?
SPEAKER_03Okay, all right. And uh is it is it a full flight? Do you have uh a lot of passengers along with you?
SPEAKER_01No, everybody's here. We got every site, every seat is full, and there are at least two babies.
SPEAKER_03Well, uh and but and the babies are are are they uh are they making a lot of noise? Are they causing some trouble?
SPEAKER_01You can't say that at all, they're being perfect. No, they're not being bad at all, they're perfect.
SPEAKER_03Okay. And um, does the person that's next to you have any problem with you talking on the phone right now? Are they okay with that?
SPEAKER_01So far, so good.
SPEAKER_03Okay, all right. Well, good. Um so you're gonna be uh off of the off the show here, uh or maybe off and on. Maybe you can check in with us once in a while. Uh, but you're going on vacation here for a few days, right?
SPEAKER_01I haven't been on vacation in years. I mean, I've taken the long weekend for a holiday here and there, but um, it's been a long time since I've taken 10 days away from home. I can't even figure it out.
SPEAKER_03Well, it's uh it's well deserved. You need some time off, and uh you're going to go visit your sister, I understand. Uh so that and and you want to tell anybody else about uh what your plans are uh for this next 10 days?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she has a boat. She and her boyfriend. And we're gonna hop on a boat to get the forward can we're gonna head to Canada.
SPEAKER_03I think we're leaving to it's a sailboat, right?
SPEAKER_01It is.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And have you been on this boat before?
SPEAKER_01I've seen it. I've sailed on it, yes. Yes, I have.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01It's been a while.
SPEAKER_03Well, great. Uh now you're flying uh so so uh is there any food involved in your flight this morning? Do they still serve food on uh flights like this?
SPEAKER_01No, uh they haven't served food on flights in a lot of years. They'll bring out a snack, maybe. So I brought my own snacks. Okay, good.
SPEAKER_03Well, you're good to go. Well, Catherine, uh, you know, I know you're you're busy there and you don't want to uh bother the people next to you with uh with an extended conversation and everything. So I hope you have a great flight and uh maybe check in with us. You know, I know it's uh you're gonna be on on West Coast time, I imagine. So uh you know, you you know, if you if you can you know find the time, if you get up very early one morning you want to check in with us, that would be great. But if not, uh enjoy your time. Enjoy your time off. All right.
SPEAKER_01All right, okay. Thanks, Courtney.
SPEAKER_03Thank you very yeah, yeah. Very good. Bye-bye now. All right, that's Catherine Lake, and uh off she goes into the wild blue yonder, and uh hope she has a good time there. Yeah, so uh uh filling in, uh you know, Luna, you have big shoes to fill uh since Catherine's gonna be gone for a few days, and uh you know, uh how do you feel about that?
SPEAKER_02Well, Gordy, I'm up for the challenge. I'll do my best to keep things lively, and while I can't compete with Catherine's in-flight adventures, I'll be here to make sure the show runs smoothly. Let's have some fun while she's away.
SPEAKER_03All right. Yeah, what's your idea of fun, Luna?
SPEAKER_02Oh, you know. A sprinkle of witty banter, a dash of interesting headlines, and maybe a quirky story or two. I'll keep things light, but if you want me to crank up the fun dial, just say the word.
SPEAKER_03You know, there was a comedian uh who was named Witty Banter. Uh, he was uh really, really funny. He worked uh in Reno, Nevada for many, many years. And uh I I knew him personally, and uh I don't know what happened to him along the way, but uh he was a he was really funny. He was a good guy, Witty banter, great guy.
SPEAKER_02He sounds like a real character. If only we could bring him on as a guest, right? Until then, I'll try to keep the spirit of Witty Banter alive.
SPEAKER_03Okay, all right, very good. Uh Luna, I'll check back with you in a few minutes. Right now, I'm gonna get to just a few headlines here. We get the teletype machine going. All this is really is a recap of the 4th of July weekend. And uh, you know, so much stuff happened. I don't know where to begin. Uh, but let's go with this. The first of all, they had a good time in New York City at the uh Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift marriage. Apparently, Paul McCartney sang a song or two, and uh for whatever reason, uh uh what's her name from uh Fleetwood Mac. Um yeah, Stevie Nicks. Stevie Nicks couldn't remember her name for a moment. Uh she was invited to sing. Um McCartney, I guess. Stevie Nicks, I I have no idea, you know. But uh it seems a little seems like they would have had somebody a little bit more contemporary, you know, to balance out McCartney, have somebody uh else uh, you know, a little younger sing. But anyway, uh no reviews on the music uh have been released yet. Uh let's see, what else happened with that? Uh oh, Adam Sandler did the uh ceremony. He was the officiant. Again, kind of a head scratcher, but it's her wedding. Um apparently everybody had a good time because nobody's talking. So uh let's see now. Uh oh, Joey Chestnut. You know, this is the annual story. How many hot dogs did he eat this time? He was the winner in the hot dog eating contest, and by the way, he's won this thing 18 times. He ate 66 hot dogs in 10 minutes. His record, by the way, is 76. So he's kind of slowed down a little bit over the years, but he's still the winner. Can you imagine eating that many? I can't uh, you know, uh it makes me kind of nauseous just thinking about it. Um back to 4th of July, hijinks, a delta plane, speaking of airplane flights, uh was going in for a landing in Chicago, got hit by some fireworks, no serious damage, but they uh apparently got struck by some Yahoo setting off some fireworks. And uh, oh yeah, you know, this World Cup thing. I'm not into soccer. I uh I I mean let me think about it. When I was in high school, I played a little bit just, you know, uh pickup games of soccer, just because there was a soccer field near where I lived at the time, and a bunch of bunch of the guys got together and kicked around the soccer ball, and that was you know, that's fun. But uh boy, I just I find it hard to watch. I can't sit down for a whole game. It's just it's so low scoring, it's just a lot of running around on a field that's way too big. Um but hey, I get it. It's a it's an up and coming, I mean the rest of the world loves soccer. And so the World Cup coming to uh this side of the planet in Canada and the US and in Mexico and uh wherever else they're playing. So the big deal uh you know, this the soccer player, uh Fuller and uh Balogun. Uh you probably have seen the video if you're into any of this and you're ever watched ESPN. Uh they were playing the game two or three days ago, and he got a red card, which means that he's you know suspended from the next from playing the next game, which would be today. Um he stepped on the ankle of Tariq Maharik, something like that. Anyway, uh, and this was a very controversial red card that the referee gave out to um Fuller and Bulligan right away. It was like, oh boy, that was that a foul, really, or they just kind of ran into each other and got tangled up, and it didn't look like he intentionally stepped on the guy's ankle. Um, but that's what they called it, and so he was suspended. Well, guess who intervened? Uh, Donald J. Trump intervened over the weekend. He called his good friend Gianne Infantino of FIFA World Cup. This was the guy that gave him a fake peace prize from FIFA, uh, because he didn't win the Nobel Pete Peace Prize. Trump got a fake peace prize from uh from him. So uh guess what? Uh the FIFA had stepped in and now it's all okay. And uh Fuller and Balligan will be playing in the game against uh Belgium, which is today at some time, today or tonight. So um, so the Belgians are very upset about this, of course. Uh the USA is still in this thing, I think it's down to 16 teams. Um something like that. So that's a big controversy now in the world of soccer. And uh oh yeah, here's another by the way, sideline headline. This doesn't get much play, but apparently Putin, Zelensky, and Trump had conversations over the weekend. Over the Fourth of July weekend, they were having a phone conference, and who knows? Who knows what they talked about? Um maybe ending this stupid war that's going on over there. Uh but uh I I think this is the first time that the three of them have actually had a phone conversation, and apparently they talked for quite some time, so we'll keep an eye on that story. Uh, by the way, I want to mention that uh Bafo Coffee is our sponsor. I gotta get that in boffocoffee.com. You can go there if you'd like to uh help out and support the show. Uh you know, buy some coffee from our great sponsor. Uh, they've been with us since day one. Bafocoffee.com.
