Good morning, everybody. It is Tuesday, July 7th, 2026. I'm Gordy Young. Welcome to Coffee with Gordy, brought to you by our friends at the time. Hope the coffee is good where you are. Let's get right to the weather this morning. And uh I'm gonna see if I have my uh camera ready from outside my window here, the uh bird cam. And uh yeah, for whatever reason that's not working. Seem to be uh caught in some glitches this morning. You know, this happens in the digital world. You think everything's all set up, everything's fine, everything's gonna default to the way it was yesterday. You start the show, and then yeah, glitches happen. Not sure why that is, but uh let's see if we uh can bring Luna into the show for a brief look at the weather this morning. Good morning, Luna. How's your uh Tuesday starting out here?
SPEAKER_05Good morning, Gordy. My Tuesday is off to a fantastic start, especially with the birthday vibes. And speaking of great starts, Madison today looks pleasant, plenty of sunshine and a high near 82 degrees.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's just fine. Um, yeah, there is a sort of a birthday vibe uh today and this week. Uh a couple of birthdays that we're gonna celebrate here. When is your birthday, Luna?
SPEAKER_05Well, I don't have a birthday quite like you, but let's say every day I'm here is a little celebration of being around. But today is all about if you have any other birthday fun planned, you'll have to fill me in. But I'm ready to keep the good vibes going.
SPEAKER_02Okay, well, today is my birthday. Do you want to guess how old I am?
SPEAKER_05All right, let's see. Since you're so sharp and witty, I'm gonna guess 49. But no matter the number, you've got timeless charm.
SPEAKER_02Okay, Luna. There's no reason to kiss up to me. Uh uh, you're wrong. I'm I'm much older than 49. You want to take one more guess and then uh I'll get to uh our guest for today.
SPEAKER_05All right, no flattery. Let's take a bolder guess. How about 62? But hey, whatever it is, you're rocking it. I'd like to hear from that guest.
SPEAKER_02All right. Uh yeah, you're closer. Uh you're getting warmer, but uh you're gonna have to uh you know up that a little bit more. But that's all right. Maybe I'll check in with you at the end of the show, okay?
SPEAKER_05That sounds like a plan. We'll leave the big reveal for later. In the meantime, let's keep the show rolling and have some fun.
SPEAKER_02Okay, keep it rolling. Okay, got it. Okay, uh now let me check in. Uh, I'm gonna get on the phone here. And um I have our special guest uh lined up and ready to go here. As soon as I get the phone number going, I will give him a call right now, and uh away we go here. Uh let's see. And oh things are working so very well here this morning. Hey buddy. Hey, it's John Peterson, everybody. Good morning, John. How are you? Pretty good. You? I'm doing well, but I lost your I lost your video. We were trying to get everything lined up again this morning, and I could see you, but I can't hear you for some reason. I I don't know, I don't know what's happening here. I haven't been able to go to my bird cam outside my window for the last couple of days, so and I've rebooted everything. I you know set everything up, and yeah, yeah, it's not working. But uh for whatever reason, uh, can we see you? Uh can you put your video back up? Are you uh in a place you can do that or no?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I can actually. Uh let's see here. I will get back in into your little connection here. Just leave a secret magical connection.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just leave the phone on since that seems to be the most reliable thing that we have right now. Um we I will do I'll do that. I'll do that. I think we're ready here. Yep, I see you. I see you now. Here we go. All right, we go. Well, hey, yeah. Why why do we every time, every time that we try to do something, there's it's either a you know it's a glitch on your side or my side or both sides. And I don't know why why that is.
SPEAKER_03Why is I I was really ready for this. I thought I had everything down. Look at this. I even had a printout of the settings, and I'm looking for I'm looking for the thing that makes me go to this setting. I can't do it.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Well, we can hear you just fine, and that's that's our I'll get this microphone away. Okay. Um, so uh when is your birthday? I know it's did you just celebrate it or 14th. It's the 14th. It's twice yours. It's yes, yeah. And yours is today. Happy birthday. Yeah, thank you very much. Um, do you have any idea what celebrities uh share your birthday of July 14th? Is there anybody on I don't because they don't count, they just don't count.
SPEAKER_03You know, I mean it's it's a it's enough for me to just have a birthday and I'm thinking, you know, I don't care, I don't want to see enough. Well, I do want to see more birthdays, yeah. But you know, it's it's one of those things.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, I share my birthday with Ringo Starr. He is 86, 86 today. Now he just announced uh yet another tour, uh, his fall tour, uh, and he's gonna be on the east coast this fall. Uh, you saw him what about a year ago? Probably. I did.
SPEAKER_03I did, yeah. I should have worn the t-shirt today because it's his birthday, you know.
SPEAKER_02Well, you know what he wants us to do at noon today, like he does every year. He wants us all to go out and wherever we are, just go peace and love at noon today. Peace and love, peace and love, because that's what Ringo does. Did he share peace and love at the at the concert that you saw uh in Milwaukee?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. Here, here. Let me try try this here. Let me try this.
SPEAKER_02All right. Oh, there he is. Yeah, Ringo. Ringo.
SPEAKER_03Um he's he's telling everybody to uh go out and spread peace and love on his birthday.
SPEAKER_02That's his video. Well, I've got your t-shirt that you uh you you got a t-shirt from me from Ringo, and uh, and I'm gonna uh I'm gonna wear that the rest of the day. I should have thought of that as well. But it it says according to that graphic, he's been doing this since 2008 with the peace and love thing. Yeah, at noon, all around the world, wherever it's noon, uh people will be sharing the peace and love. So that's uh and uh Doc Severinson is 99 years old today. Doc Severinson, remember he's still around? Wow, still alive. That's great, great stuff, man. I love for him. Um yeah, and uh the only other celebrity birthday I know of is Jim Gaffigan, and he's uh 60 today. Um I like him. He's a good good comedian. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Funny stuff. So in fact, he's uh he had some great shows, some series, you know, and I I was surprised that they didn't uh catch on.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, I know. He's uh he's a tremendous talent. I think he's from Northwest Indiana because I know he plays that because there's a casino, there's a bunch of casinos, of course, around Chicago and just over the line in Indiana, and he plays he plays there on a fairly regular basis, but I think he lives in New York City. I've seen you know, like a thing on CBS Sunday morning or something about him. Uh and he's got a bunch of kids, and they live in the city, and uh, but he does get back to Indiana, I guess, fairly regularly. So uh are you all caught up with the World Cup fever, the this big soccer uh thing that happened, and then uh you know uh that USA starts stepped in and uh changed everything. Yes, it's the Trump curse. Anything that he touches just goes to crap. Uh and isn't that amazing?
SPEAKER_03I know I have a I have a list of the Trump curse here, okay? Yeah, let me just let me ruin this thing by you here. Not only did this happen, you know, the world uh the World Cup loss, but the uh sports sports fans are calling it the Trump curse, as you mentioned. He attended the Super Bowl and predicted the Chiefs win, but the Eagles blew them up. He was there for when the Commanders hosted the Lions and lost at home. We watched from a suite in Miami when uh uh in college football national championships, they uh Miami fell. Uh he sat in the owner's suite when the Knicks snapped their huge playoff streak in the NBA finals game three, and he attended the Ryder Cup, where Europe topped the U.S. team. So never get this guy near anything that is supposed to go our way. Like the well, we could go with the uh uh the great American State Fair. You know, he got near that, and that was a disaster.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, complete debacle. And now he's over uh in Turkey, uh, with a big NATO summit. So boy, look out what's gonna happen now.
SPEAKER_03And and well, you know, somebody they they were talking about the fact that he had called Putin or Putin called him, yeah, and now they're worried that maybe Putin had given some orders to go and and take his ideas and run them by everybody, and you know, maybe you know, he'll invade some NATO countries, that'll be okay. You know, you guys don't mind, do you? Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So it's uh every day, it's just uh you never know what's gonna happen. Something, right? Well, in this World Cup, you know, I I don't follow soccer at all. I I you know I never have. Um, I think it's really you know, it must it might be fun to play, but it's not fun to watch. It's it's just it's boring, frankly.
SPEAKER_03I find it but that's true. I I I would assume that you know a lot of people like it only because their kids are in it, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So right. And so now the US I actually don't need my headphones. Oh, I guess you don't. I guess um so the so the US is out of it. Also, the well, the three host countries are all out of this now US, Mexico, and Canada. They're all done. So it's down to uh the remaining. I I don't know. I this was the best of eight, I think, that they're in right now. So I don't know how many teams have survived out of this. Well, you know more than I do. That's a that's all I know. But I I was wondering, you know, uh what happened in Seattle last night because that's where they were playing uh this US Belgian game, and I uh I didn't hear about any trouble afterwards or any riots. I didn't I didn't either. Yeah, so yeah, I assume it's all yeah. So yeah, so uh do you have any uh you know I haven't got any birthday plans today. I might go see my sister uh up in uh Reedsburg, you know, that's a possibility. But uh uh do you have any plans coming up? Uh next week is your birthday on the 14th. Uh we should have some kind of birthday celebration.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, maybe we we should definitely do that. Maybe a celebration. If we can get this thing working by next by this Friday, maybe we can talk about you know, maybe some of the plans. But uh, you know, you and me and Catherine can uh maybe get together when she gets back from her little vacation.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she's uh she's gonna be gone the rest of this week and I think all of next week. She's uh she's traveling the world, and uh, you know, good for her. Just time to get away and uh you know take a break from everything. So yeah, I don't really have a whole lot planned. I you know, I was kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as stories go. Um, what are you gonna have coming up on your uh on your uh John's Media World Extra uh show?
SPEAKER_03Well, uh we're uh definitely going to uh be talking about the latest uh uh comments from Trump. I mean, he's made some really unbelievable, ridiculous statements, and we'll be talking about some of the changes in healthcare that are taking place that will be taking place in the not too distant future. Uh one of the one of the weirdest things, you know, one of the weirdest stories is uh is this thing about Medicaid and you know how this administration doesn't seem to think it's an important thing for the people that get it. I mean, we got a lot of people that use it, uh, that work part-time, that don't put enough hours in to get to to qualify for Medicaid. I mean, this is healthcare, again, something no one uses every day. They don't use it, it's not an expense really until they get sick. And of course, we want to treat people when they get sick. So this is a whole just a weird can of worms that you know we'll be exploring today. There'll be other things, but I haven't been able to check out the news and all the latest stories yet. So we'll see what happens. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, uh, you know, I know it's uh it's early yet uh to make any predictions on the uh on the Wisconsin governor's uh you know race. Uh I see Tom Tiffany's out there uh promoting his uh his agenda uh for Wisconsin on the Republican side. Uh Democratic candidates, we're are we down to five or six? I think it's six that are left.
SPEAKER_03I don't know, but I think it's sad uh that you know we have too many candidates here and none of them are dropping out like they they should. I you know, I'm I'm behind uh Francesca Hong because I like I like the New Democratic Socialist Party, I like their agenda. I think when people see it, they can't possibly dislike any of it. Um and here's here's something I I came to, this big uh epiphany I had the other day about all of this. You know, a lot of people don't want health care controlled by the government, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And and yet, think about it. We have Medicaid, we have all these programs, other programs included, and the government's involved. They have rules and regulations about Medicare and who can get it, who can't. And you know, did you hear about the story where uh there is an insurance company that offers Medicare, but they decided that there's going to be a fee now for the drug plan, okay? And because they notified the people that are signed up with their insurance, with their insurance that they're going to be charging a fee. But those people never got the message, they didn't know, and so they weren't paying a fee, they had to do it on their own, they had to set up that pay system on their own because uh Social Security does not do that for them, like you know, it does for plan B. So here's the thing. Now these people, not only do they not have a drug plan because it shut down, they they can't get drugs through their insurance plan, but because it's uh you can sign up only in in fall. This is government involved in your health care. You can't sign up for Medicare until late fall, okay? Yeah, and that means it's going to be over three months. And if you go over three months, that means that Medicare then will punish you and penalize you each and every year for the rest of your life. They will increase the uh amount of money you pay into getting your drug plan each and every year because you broke the chain, you didn't keep your plan. Now you're on, you're on. You're gonna be paying more money for the rest of your damn life. What a mess. So what a mess. Everything is a true mess.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's true.
SPEAKER_03That's government involved in health care. Yeah, except yeah, uh but you know, no one ever thinks it that of that way. It is, and it's crazy and it's madness. Now, if we had just universal health care coverage, it would be just the government being the insurance company, and that's it. They're not meddling, you know. It's just uh that's it. Yeah, they negotiate for us, and we just go out and you know get treated whenever we need it.
SPEAKER_02So well, and the Republicans are doing the best they can already to just plant that seed that uh Democratic socialists are communists. You know, this is just this is laughable. But they're gonna beat that drum all the way from here till November. And uh I I, you know, that's that's their plan.
SPEAKER_03Well, the answer the answer that I would come up with with these individuals is say, I'll tell you what, okay, you say that it's communism. I'll tell you what, you get back to me when you look up the meaning of communism and socialism. Give me three things on each side. Well, the positive part of socialism and the positive part of communism, and the negative parts. Three examples, and then get back to me and tell me if you're right or wrong about socialism being anything like communism.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_03You know, these people are dumbasses. I uh bothers me.
SPEAKER_02It just bothers me. Well, there's a long way uh between here and November, so we'll have uh we'll have plenty of time to uh kind of sort through all this stuff. Uh, but uh it's still early yet. But boy, I I do expect things are going to start to uh come together for both sides, Democrats and Republicans. They're gonna have to uh you know, some of these candidates are gonna have to drop out on the Democratic side, maybe in the next three weeks, four weeks. I you know, I don't know. Uh, but the primary is what in August, I think.
SPEAKER_03Uh so uh I think that's well here's the other here's the other thing that kind of bothers me is that we never get uh we never get the polling as much as we should in important elections like the primary. And we should be getting more of that so people get a feel for who's out there when they look at these polls, they say, you know what, I gotta look up these candidates that aren't necessarily very popular. I gotta know what's w what I what I might like or dislike about them. Right. That's that's what polls do. They they kind of get you curious about the candidates, and we just don't have a the market poll, or you know, I don't know why they don't have more often. Do they work too hard, you know, putting on a survey once a year? Is is it too much to ask? Right? That's where I'm coming from on this.
SPEAKER_02Well, I know. Uh well, keep an eye on it for us, John. And uh people can always check out uh your your show on uh John's Media World Extra. And you're cranking out stuff every day here, and uh we'll talk to you on Friday, uh Friday morning. Uh I'm gonna have a couple of more guest hosts in in between uh now and then, and uh I'll be on your show uh next Monday, right? As usual, right? Exactly, and we're whenever else we can line things up. So uh good to good to talk to you. We gotta move along because the clock is ticking, and I only get so much time. So okay, man. All right, all right. Thank you, John. You have a good day. Happy birthday, man. Oh, right. Thank you very much. All right, and uh we'll talk to you later. All right, that's John Peterson. Be sure to check out his show, uh John's Media World Extra, and uh you can find that. And uh you can find that, I think, also on his Facebook page and on uh YouTube as well. So uh let me see.
