Coffee with Gordy for this Thursday seemingly has a lack of good news. The ceasefire is off and gas prices are poised to go back up again. The "new" Air Force One is a lot heavier than previous models and so it's been sidelined for now. ICE is back on the streets in Houston and a fatal shooting happened. The deep south is bracing for another excessive heat wave, and Bonnie Tyler has passed away at the age of 75  ("A Total Eclipse of the Heart" was her big hit). Regardless of all the rough news, do your best to try and have a nice day. Just try. This show brought to by https://www.boffocoffee.com

Well, here we are at Thursday already. And uh boy, just uh really, you know, I was watching some some news earlier this morning. It's just one awful news story after another. Shall we dive into it? I don't I'm gonna keep this short and just do headlines because there's so much really not great news that I don't know if I really want to dwell on it this early in the morning, but well, it looks like we're back at uh you know, back at the beginning with the U.S. Iran war. The ceasefire apparently is over, and now here we go again. And guess what happens right away? Check your local gas prices. Hopefully, you filled up your tank yesterday because looks like those gas prices are gonna jump again today because the war is seemingly back on. Um, you know, before I get to all the rest of the negative news here, let's bring in Luna, our uh AI-generated uh interactive uh fake news person and weather person. Good morning, Luna. How are things in your world this morning?

SPEAKER_03

Good morning, Corey. Things are buzzing along as usual. All right, let's start with uh Madison area forecast. Right now, it's 72 degrees, partly cloudy. We're looking at a high near 83 today with a slight chance of a late day shower, but mostly dry. Tonight, partly cloudy, a little around 54. Pretty typical July stretch. A bit sticky, but not the worst.

SPEAKER_00

Now, uh I know it's a little early yet, but uh, can you look ahead to the weekend Saturday and Sunday? Uh what can we expect? Uh I think even warmer temperatures are are coming back, right?

SPEAKER_03

Checking. Yeah, that's right. Saturday is looking mostly sunny with a high around 86 and a low near 62. Then Sunday looks like mostly sunny and warmer. High near 87, low around 67. Pretty nice for outdoor plans.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. And once again, uh, what's the current uh temperature here in beautiful Madison, Wisconsin?

SPEAKER_03

Right now, 72 degrees.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, very good. Luna, thank you very much. Appreciate that report. Yeah, you have a good day.

SPEAKER_03

I am all right, you too.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, bye-bye. I think Luna's been drinking this morning. She seems a little extra happy. Um, okay, back to all the bad news. Let's get the teletype rolling again here. Uh well, I don't know which bad story to get to next. I just it's all kind of lousy. This one's kind of strange, though. Uh, Trump is back to the uh the usual as far as Air Force One. They, you know, they got that new Qatari plane all shined up and ready to go for this trip over to Turkey. Well, he's not flying back on that. In fact, I think he's already in the air or on his way back, or maybe already has returned to the U.S. But um the word is now that the reason they didn't come back on that Qatari jet that we put $400 million into at least, and maybe some estimates are saying it's a lot more than that. But that jet that Qatar donated to Donald Trump um apparently is much heavier than Air Force One, and the runways uh have trouble with that jet in particular, that particular jet, because it's extra darn heavy, and they're a little worried about some of the runways that it would might have to land on, you know, if there was an emergency or something. So um, so they're gonna have to rethink that. So he had they had uh he's back on the uh old Air Force One. The new Air Force ones, I think they ordered a couple of them, uh, aren't gonna be ready for two or three years. So I think they're gonna be stuck with the uh the original Air Force One that uh they've been using, which has been just fine for 20 or so years. Uh yeah, I mentioned gas prices may be going up today, so uh check your local listings. Uh Deep South is getting into record-breaking temperatures today and tomorrow, big another big heat wave, and now they're talking about the same thing out west. And uh oh boy, Bonnie Tyler has passed away at the age of 75. She had that one really big hit, total eclipse of the heart. And uh so she has passed. Uh, and boy, another ICE fatal shooting in Houston. Immigrant who had been living, a Mexican immigrant living in the U.S. for 35 years, uh and apparently was on the verge of becoming a U.S. citizen, had done all the paperwork, crossed all the T's, dotted all the I's, and was in the works, but uh got pulled over, and uh some sort of you know disagreements ensued, and uh fatally shot Lorenzo Salgado Alialgo. I'm not sure I'm pronouncing that anywhere near correctly, but so another fatal shooting from ice boy. And uh so some very tough news today. And uh yeah, I don't know where we go from here. I you know, it just it seems like every time we think that the Iran war has got a ceasefire, and they're talking negotiations, and things are going to, you know, get back to whatever normal was in the Straits of Hormuz, and now it's all that's apparently up in the air again. So lousy news for this Thursday, July 9th. And uh now tomorrow, uh John Peterson will be joining me as he does every Friday morning, and uh we'll talk about maybe some of these headlines and others. You can always check out John's podcast, he's uh on Facebook and other places there, I believe on YouTube. Uh just look for John's Media World Extra or just go to John Peterson's Facebook page, and uh again, he'll be here tomorrow morning. He'll be joining us. Have not heard from Catherine Lake, she is still on vacation uh the rest of this week, and I think most of next week. Uh, but hopefully she'll check in again at some point. Uh, and I know she's enjoying her time off. Yes. Um, a side note. Now, yesterday I traveled down to I'd never been to Cave of the Mounds, and I thought, well, what is this place? I've heard about it for a long time. Lived in Wisconsin about 30 years altogether, um both in the late 80s and early 90s, and then moved to Indiana and then moved back here around 10 years ago, and uh had never been to Cave of the Mounds. And after yesterday's uh little tour, I probably think that was enough. I uh it's a nice cave. It's it's it's not spectacular, you know. I've been to Carlsbad Caverns, that's one of the famous caverns and caves of of the world. Uh, so it's hard to compare. You know, I'm not a I'm not a spelunker. I don't go to a lot of caves, but um, you know, cave of the mounds, I'm gonna let you decide for yourself. If you want to go, by all means go. It's past, it's near Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, and uh you'll follow the signs of the Cave of the Mounds, and you you decide. Um it was it was interesting. Um I got in on the last tour of the day. I actually was hoping that they just let you wander around in the cave, but no, that you're on a guided tour. And um, yeah, I'm gonna say no more. Just you decide. Uh tell me your impressions of Cave in the Mounds if you've been there. Uh I'm sure it's you know it's terrific for uh tour groups like you know, the Boy Scouts or whatever, the uh or you know, a school group. Uh I I found it uh uh maybe not all that spectacular. And that's perhaps being generous. That's just me. I again, you decide. Um okay, I think that's it for today. I a little bit on the short side, but uh, I didn't want to dwell on any of these horrible stories that are going on right now. The and uh I want to get to the gas station before the gas prices go up, and that may already be too late. But uh uh that's gonna do it for uh today's efforts. Again, tomorrow John Peterson will join us. Oh, this is brought to you by our friends at Bafo Coffee.
