of the apostle. 00:00:48.560 --> 00:00:58.960 And I tell you, this is one of the biggest secrets to Bible studying, is to study these epistles of the apostle, all the way from Romans to the book of about Timothy, Timothy was an uh a someone who was mentored by the apostle for many years before he was finally set in his own church, which is why we have these letters, two letters that were written addresses that. 00:03:40.560 --> 00:03:57.439 He says, matter of fact, those that do have admonish them to know that they need to help those that don't have, especially those who are in the body of Christ that may not have money, that may be struggling with their finances, finances right now. 00:03:57.840 --> 00:04:13.039 Okay, and so if you have money, God has blessed you with an abundance of riches that you need to be helping not only those who struggle to help themselves financially, but also look out for those in the missionary. 00:04:13.199 --> 00:04:23.040 Now we're gonna see how these people, even though they didn't have a lot of money, and it's gonna show this when we get to 2 Corinthians chapter 8 about these people. 00:04:23.439 --> 00:04:37.519 Okay, they didn't have a lot of money, but they were eager to give whatever they had to help whomever they needed to help without any hesitation, and this is what God is looking for. 00:04:37.680 --> 00:04:38.720 What does with a hundred thousand dollars in your bank account because you're helping people? 00:04:52.000 --> 00:05:04.240 No, it does not, but what it does mean is that when you're especially helping those who are ministering the word, now I I do want to say this me saying this does not mean I need anybody sending me any money. 00:05:04.480 --> 00:05:08.800 Me saying this does not mean that I am burdening anyone to send me money. 00:05:08.879 --> 00:05:18.160 I work a job currently right now, and I prefer to do that because one of the things the apostle Paul did was so that he wouldn't be a burden to people. 00:05:18.399 --> 00:05:21.600 He had his own company, he was a tent maker. 00:05:21.759 --> 00:05:32.319 Not only was he a tent maker, he was able to support himself, but he was able to employ people that were ministering the word with him so that they did not have to be a burden. 00:05:32.399 --> 00:05:37.920 This is what he told to the churches in Thessalonica that we did not contribution, one, because he did work, and number two, he didn't want to be one who uh was accused of receiving money like many that were doing so and still do so today for their own financial gain, which is why they err in the scripture in heresy and misleading you, but they're making a lot of money off of you, putting a burden on you to give tithes and offerings so that they can be rich in the church and you're still poor out there watching them preach every day. 00:06:18.800 --> 00:06:25.600 Okay, uh, but as we get into this book of Philippians, we're gonna learn a lot about these people. 00:06:25.839 --> 00:06:41.360 One of the things about these people, and that I want to express, is that this is the only letter out of all the letters the apostle Paul wrote to many other churches, church churches in Ephesus, uh, church in Galatea. 00:06:41.920 --> 00:06:50.720 This is the only church, uh these people that he did not have to address the issue of sexual immorality. 00:06:52.000 Holy Spirit would not allow him to go to those other places, and all of a sudden he sees a vision of a man in Macedonia, uh, which was the leading factor of him going to these people in Philippi in the first place. 00:07:24.079 --> 00:07:36.959 Now, I don't remember he ever found that man, but I do believe that the Holy Spirit directed him there because the Holy Spirit knew that that was the place where the ground was fertile, and it most certainly was. 00:07:37.199 --> 00:07:43.040 Okay, and Acts chapter 16 is the introductory to that when he meets a lady called Lydia. 00:07:43.120 --> 00:07:56.319 Now she did have money, she had her own business too, as well, and she asked and tried and wanted to get the apostle Paul to come and stay with her for a few days and and minister to her household. 00:07:56.480 --> 00:07:59.360 Her whole household got saved, including her. 00:08:00.079 --> 00:08:20.079 Now, there was a little small detour that it tells us uh because of he was as he was on his way, there was this young lady who was overtaken by the spirit, uh, and she was able to fortune tell and was making these guys a lot of money. 00:08:20.319 --> 00:08:48.879 And for about several days, she was getting on the apostle Paul's nerve, and finally, on about the seventh day, the Apostle Paul said, Look, I'm tired of this, and he cast that demon out of her, and she lost her ability to foretell the future, and it upset these guys because they lost money, and he ended up going to prison, him and Salah, and they ended up uh praising and worshiping and praying to the Lord. 00:08:49.360 --> 00:08:53.600 Around about midnight, the Bible says all the jail cells broke open. 00:08:54.399 --> 00:09:05.519 Okay, they all broke open, and the jailer there was so scared about the up and sees all this happening, but he didn't realize in all his panic that no one, despite the the prison jail cells being slung open, nobody ran out and escaped. 00:09:23.039 --> 00:09:29.919 And the Apostle Paul and Silas had to let him know hey, calm down, nobody's left because he was gonna kill himself. 00:09:30.240 --> 00:09:40.320 And so not only did the jailer not kill himself, but he 00:16:32.399 --> 00:16:46.799 Okay, now Timothy, bond servants of Christ Jesus the Messiah, the anointed, to all the saints, God's people, and Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, including the overseers megachurches like we know today, they want churches like you see on every block today. 00:17:33.279 --> 00:17:43.200 These churches were established in people's homes, and many of these people's homes had men who were the head of the households. 00:17:43.519 --> 00:18:07.119 Okay, and so this is why the apostle Paul is addressing the people in Philippi this way, because of the people that became ordained overseers or bishops in their households, the people who had deacons, who became deacons in those households, in that community, in that neighborhood, and this is why he's addressing it this way. 00:18:07.279 --> 00:18:17.680 One of the things you heard me mention earlier is that whole households were getting saved, and this is where the strength came from, is from these families. 00:18:17.920 --> 00:18:34.240 Okay, this is why the spirit of the Lord was so strong there, and this is why the spiritual maturity grew there because of the close bond that these people developed in the Lord, despite the fact that they were coming under heavy persecution. 00:18:34.400 --> 00:18:48.160 Now, many of us are fortunate today because we don't receive the heavy persecution, such as a lot of these people, especially the ones, the Gentile believers that the apostle Paul went to and helped to establish the churches and their homes. 00:18:48.720 --> 00:18:55.680 So many of us are does not like the light, nor is it responsive or receptive to the light, because it does not want his evil deeds exposed, especially those things that they do in secret. 00:19:32.240 --> 00:19:35.759 prison, the gospel was still being spread, not only being spread, but those who were chained to him, the prison guards, were developing boldness and preaching and teaching the word of truth in the contributions, their partnership and fellowship with him in contributing in order to advance the good news, the gospel of death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. 00:34:41.199 --> 00:34:44.880 And they didn't have a lot, but what they had they were eager to give. 00:34:44.960 --> 00:34:46.559 So let's go, keep going. 00:34:46.960 --> 00:34:54.559 So he he is talking to these people in Corinth because he is now challenging them. 00:34:55.199 --> 00:35:10.639 He is now challenging them as they all are assigned to help Peter and those churches in Jerusalem that were under heavy persecution, that were exiled from their homes, and they needed to be taken care of financially. 00:35:10.880 --> 00:35:23.840 And so the apostle Paul is collecting money on their behalf, and it tells us that these people in Macedonia were some of the first who were eager to help in this effort, okay, even though they didn't have a lot. 00:35:23.920 --> 00:35:28.400 And I keep stressing that because that's heavily important, okay. 00:35:28.800 --> 00:35:46.400 Alright now, verse 2 for doing an ordeal of severe distress, see this their abundant joy and their deep poverty together, look at this, y'all, overflowed in the wealth of their lavish generosity. 00:35:46.559 --> 00:35:52.400 So not only were these people deeply poor, deep in poverty. 00:35:53.519 --> 00:35:58.960 Now, some will say, Well, then that means the word one working on Abraham, because the word says we're supposed to be rich. 00:35:59.039 --> 00:36:00.559 No, it doesn't. 00:36:01.119 --> 00:36:04.400 Does God want us to be financially taken care of, ladies and gentlemen? 00:36:04.559 --> 00:36:06.239 He most certainly does. 00:36:06.800 --> 00:36:08.719 But what does the Bible also say? 00:36:08.880 --> 00:36:14.159 Jesus said, You will always have the poor with you, but you won't always have me. 00:36:14.320 --> 00:36:17.119 And right now, tonight, we don't have him on this earth anymore. 00:36:27.599 The money is not the most important issue to God. 00:36:28.400 --> 00:36:39.519 Where you are spiritually and maturely is how you're able to help people with the gifts that he has given they gave over and beyond that because of the gospel that freed them, they understood that despite all the deep distress they were going through and their poverty, Jesus' word freed them from worrying continue to unravel these chapters, we're gonna see that he talks about the fact that we aren't to be caught up in our own ambitions, our own interests, but to be seeking to deal with the interests of
