said before, one of the things about the book of Philippians, it is the only epistle where the Apostle Paul did not have to address the issue of sexual immorality. 00:00:33.520 --> 00:00:38.159 And today we're about to probably see the only issue he had to focus on. 00:00:38.320 --> 00:00:38.640 Okay. 00:00:39.039 --> 00:00:43.280 Now I spoke about the fact that the Apostle Paul didn't play around. 00:00:43.759 --> 00:00:49.439 He didn't just go and preach and minister the gospel to the Gentile nations. 00:00:56.320 --> 00:01:03.200 And this is why he focused on talking about walking in the reverent fear of the Lord, working out our own salvation. 00:01:03.359 --> 00:01:07.599 Now, this does not mean, like I said before, that you can earn your salvation. 00:01:07.760 --> 00:01:12.480 Otherwise, if you can do that, then you will have reason to boast and for God to owe you. 00:01:12.640 --> 00:01:15.519 No, the salvation from God is a free gift. 00:01:15.760 --> 00:01:26.560 But we do have to do a walk check periodically from time to time to make sure that we understand we're walking on the path of righteousness such as Jesus walked. 00:01:26.719 --> 00:01:32.079 Our righteousness, ladies and gentlemen, is not our righteousness, it is the righteousness of Jesus Christ. 00:01:32.239 --> 00:01:39.599 This is why it's so important to die to ourselves daily and keep Paul tells us that we are to have the same attitude that Jesus had when he walked this earth. 00:01:49.439 --> 00:01:59.680 And we're going to talk about that too because that is also important for want to get to verse 16 because there was a huge uh verse in here, and something that the apostle Paul talked about that many of us, when we're studying the book of Philippians, I believe we overlook. 00:02:36.319 --> 00:02:47.120 And you can't overlook this because this is all part of us being able to reach uh a level of the image of Christ that God wants us to reach. 00:02:47.280 --> 00:02:49.599 You want your prayers answered, ladies and gentlemen. 00:02:49.759 --> 00:02:54.800 You have to continue to die to yourself and walk in this righteousness. 00:02:55.039 --> 00:02:58.400 The Bible says that the feverent prayers of the righteous. 00:02:58.560 --> 00:03:03.759 I need y'all to understand that, underline that word when you look at that verse, avail of much. 00:03:03.919 --> 00:03:20.560 Meaning, the more righteous we begin to become as the image of Christ is taking hold in our life due to the transformation that this word should be causing, then our prayers can be sure to be heard and be answered. 00:03:21.039 --> 00:03:28.080 Okay, and this is how you know when you're walking in the righteousness that the image of Christ is taking hold. 00:03:28.319 --> 00:03:36.000 Because when God looks at you, he is looking at his son, he's looking for duplications of his son. 00:03:36.319 --> 00:03:40.400 Uh, one of the movies I always think about is the book is the movie Matrix. that scene where after Neil is talking to the Oracle, she goes through the door, and then his uh nephesis comes to face him and has learned how to duplicate himself within the program. 00:04:03.439 here. 00:05:54.720 --> 00:06:08.079 All of us who are mature pursuing spiritual perfection should have this attitude, and if in any respect you have a different attitude, watch this that too, God will the image fully to Jesus Christ. 00:06:22.160 --> 00:06:33.759 Okay, and like I said, you go to 1 Corinthians chapter 13, it tells us, yes, we know in part right now, but we will know in full when we get to Jesus, and we will be as Jesus is. 00:06:34.079 --> 00:06:55.360 But the apostle Paul tells us that he works toward pressing toward that goal, leaving those things behind, the life that he used to have, okay, the religious life that he once led, which was without Jesus Christ, and pressing toward the things of Jesus because all those things are garbage in comparison to Jesus in him. 00:06:55.759 --> 00:07:06.639 Okay, and so the apostle Paul is talking about here, those who are pursuing spiritual maturity should have this attitude. 00:07:06.959 --> 00:07:14.160 When we were reading in the book of Philippians, chapter 2, it talks about the attitude that Jesus had while he walked this earth. 00:07:14.399 --> 00:07:17.040 So let's look at some of those things right now. 00:07:17.439 --> 00:07:19.759 We're gonna go deeper into those things. 00:07:19.839 --> 00:07:28.800 I'm gonna go to Colossians chapter 3, and it's gonna talk about putting off the old nature and putting on the new nature, which is the image of Christ. 00:07:28.959 --> 00:07:36.079 Okay, what is this uh spiritual maturity, this attitude that we should have that Jesus had? 00:07:36.399 --> 00:07:47.439 It's him walking in humble humility, making himself of less importance, and putting other people above himself. 00:07:47.600 --> 00:07:52.079 Now that does not mean you totally forget yourself, okay? 00:07:52.319 --> 00:07:59.759 But it shouldn't be in a place where it's all about what you're going to get out of something before you do something for somebody else. 00:08:00.160 --> 00:08:08.639 We do good knowing that God is the source who blesses us, regardless of whether we do good for someone who does not return the favor. 00:08:09.120 --> 00:08:21.519 Okay, but Jesus had this humble humility about himself that allowed him to be obedient unto righteousness and walk in unselfish love. 00:08:21.680 --> 00:08:26.000 This is the attitude that we are to have, ladies and gentlemen. 00:08:26.160 --> 00:08:37.279 And if we do not have this attitude of being humble, walking in humility, walking in obedience unto righteousness, and walking in unselfish love, then there is a problem. 00:08:37.679 --> 00:08:48.480 Something is clogging up our spiritual arteries and not and not allowing the Holy Spirit to flow within us so that we can walk in this attitude of Christ. 00:08:48.799 --> 00:09:04.559 Okay, now let me get over here, and uh I want to go over to Colossians chapter 3, and let's look at this a little bit more, and uh I I do have to warn you, we do read a but we are definitely going to look at it today. 00:09:18.960 --> 00:09:29.440 Uh I think what we want to do, uh, I'm gonna read from verse one, and I want to go all the way to verse 10. 00:09:30.000 --> 00:09:31.360 Okay, all the way. 00:09:31.440 --> 00:09:48.080 There's a reason for this because we're gonna see a deep, detailed description of what it looks like to put off the old image of Adam that was given to us by default when he sinned in the garden and putting on the new nature, which is Jesus Christ. 00:09:48.159 --> 00:09:49.279 So let's get started here. 00:09:49.519 --> 00:09:50.960 Colossians chapter 3. 00:09:51.039 --> 00:09:54.000 We're gonna look all the way from verses 1 through 10. 00:09:54.240 --> 00:09:55.200 So let's go. 00:09:55.440 --> 00:10:04.639 It says, Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ to a look at this new life, sharing in his resurrection from the dead. 00:10:04.879 --> 00:10:09.039 Now, should we die before a rapture happens? 00:10:09.200 --> 00:10:39.039 And I know a lot of people don't want to believe in the rapture because the word is not in the Bible, but the connotation of what that rapture means is, and it simply means that those who are still alive will not have to taste death, but will have the benefit of being caught up in the clouds alive to meet Christ face to face, where we will completely be changed into bodies of immortality and having full knowledge of everything. 00:10:39.360 --> 00:10:43.519 There's going to be some things that you probably won't get to in your lifetime in this Bible. 00:10:43.679 --> 00:10:52.960 The word says we cannot exalt all of God's spiritual riches in this Bible that you will know once you meet Jesus Christ face to face. 00:10:53.200 --> 00:10:53.519 Okay? 00:10:54.159 --> 00:11:09.200 Now, so if we are part of the new life that Jesus has been given because of the Holy Spirit, the same Holy Spirit that was in him is in us today, we now have the guarantee of being resurrected from the dead. 00:11:09.279 --> 00:11:13.519 Should we not be one of those fortunate enough not to have to taste death? 00:11:13.679 --> 00:11:21.519 Watch this, keep seeking the things that are above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 00:11:21.759 --> 00:11:29.440 Now, ladies and gentlemen, our citizenship, the moment we got saved, is in heaven. 00:11:29.759 --> 00:11:41.840 Not only do we have a citizenship up in heaven, that which is the reason why the apostle Paul is admonishing us to think about things more above in the heavenly and not of the earth. 00:11:42.159 --> 00:11:44.320 Because we have our citizenship there. 00:11:44.480 --> 00:11:58.960 Ephesians chapter 2, verse 6 talks about this citizenship, but we also have uh our pre-invite into the earthly kingdom, okay, that is going to come down from heaven, the heaven's system, okay. 00:11:59.120 --> 00:12:07.600 Now, his perfect political system, Jesus Christ, who is going to reign as the king forever, is going to come down from heaven onto the earth. 00:12:07.840 --> 00:12:14.320 Okay, we now have not only heavenly citizenship, but already a pre-invite into the kingdom. 00:12:14.480 --> 00:12:32.879 Colossians chapter 1, verses 12 through 13 tells us that we've been translated out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God, which is that millennial kingdom that will be sure to come back on the earth when God's children come back through the clouds with Jesus Christ. 00:12:33.039 --> 00:12:47.279 Okay, so we ought to set our minds and keep focused habitually, okay, on the things above, the heavenly things, not on things that are on the earth which have only temporal value. 00:12:47.519 --> 00:12:51.679 Now, why does the word habitually keep coming up? 00:12:52.000 --> 00:12:56.879 Because it takes practice to live out God's word. 00:12:57.519 --> 00:13:05.519 There are so many habits that you have developed throughout your lifetime that have to be broken by the anointing of the word. 00:13:06.399 --> 00:13:17.360 Okay, and so that takes a daily washing of the word and dying to ourselves so that we can continue to get to the image of Christ. 00:13:17.519 --> 00:13:17.840 Okay? 00:13:18.320 --> 00:13:20.240 And so this is what he's talking about. 00:13:20.480 --> 00:13:40.559 We are to habitually think about the things above, which means we have to continue to detach ourselves from the love of this world, and and now reattach ourselves to Christ, who has restored us and reconciled us into a right relationship with 00:14:12.000 --> 00:14:24.000 We will come back with him in glorious bodies that we have been guaranteed and given, whether through the rapture, we meet him being alive, of course, not having to taste death, or through that resurrection. 00:14:24.080 --> 00:14:40.720 Now, those who have died in the Lord first, according to 1 Thessalonians chapter 4, verses 13 through 18, will be raised from the dead first, and almost like same time simultaneously, those of us who are still alive will be caught up together with Jesus Christ. 00:14:40.879 --> 00:14:48.879 But there is a time in Jesus' second coming where he's going to come back with the body of Christ his bride. 00:14:49.200 --> 00:14:56.799 Romans chapter 8 talks about how all the creation is groaning tonight, awaiting for the revealing let's keep going. 00:15:05.519 --> 00:15:10.320 Our life now, when we get saved, has been hidden in Christ. 00:15:11.039 --> 00:15:16.240 Alright, and when we come back here, we will be revealed. people that don't want God in control of their lives, that believe they are God and that they can accomplish everything God can. 00:16:24.480 --> 00:16:26.240 Well, that's the lie from Satan. 00:16:26.399 --> 00:16:40.480 But it's gonna be so many people because they've decided to take upon their own selves to make their own decisions, do their own thing without God, not knowing that God still allows them to have the things that they have. 00:16:41.759 --> 00:16:59.039 But this is the arrogancy and pride, and so these are the people, such as we once were, that the wrath of God is coming upon, okay, if they don't get themselves right and allow the Holy Spirit to convict them and bring them to a place of repentance. 00:16:59.120 --> 00:17:10.559 Verse 7, and in these sinful things, watch this, you also once walked when you were habitually living in them without the knowledge of Christ. 00:17:11.359 --> 00:17:18.400 So the same way that we've developed these bad habits believe you can still be cursing and all that kind of stuff. 00:17:59.599 --> 00:18:09.359 Now there's a uh a scripture in Proverbs chapter 8 that caught my attention saying that wisdom does not hang with those with a perverse mouth. 00:18:10.799 --> 00:18:23.039 So you can't tell me you got wisdom, yet your mouth does not indicate it because wisdom doesn't hang with someone that doesn't know how to keep their mouth and their tongue bridle. 00:18:23.759 --> 00:18:24.079 Okay? 00:18:24.559 --> 00:18:26.000 Now, so let's keep going. 00:18:26.160 --> 00:18:30.000 Verse 9 do not lie to one another. 00:18:30.240 --> 00:18:39.920 That's we're in fellowship with other brothers and sisters in Christ, for you have stripped off the old self with its evil practices. 00:18:40.160 --> 00:18:43.200 You see that, and what have you done? 00:18:43.519 --> 00:19:06.640 And have put on the new spiritual self who is being watched this continually renewed and true knowledge in the image of Him who Jesus Christ, who created the new self, ladies and gentlemen, it is a continuous process of dying to ourselves daily. 00:19:06.880 --> 00:19:12.559 The only way we can do that is to face the truth in these Bibles, okay? 00:19:12.799 --> 00:19:30.640 And when we receive and understand these truths, these truths that the Holy Spirit gives us, because the Bible says that He had He guides us into all truth, will begin to transform us into the glorious image of Jesus Christ. 00:19:32.240 --> 00:19:36.799 That image is what is leading us into spiritual maturity. 00:19:36.960 --> 00:19:45.680 Now, let's go over here as we've gotten a more detailed sense of this attitude that Jesus possessed. 00:19:46.000 --> 00:19:56.400 Okay, Colossians 3 has covered all of that for us, giving us the instructions on our citizenship and where we're from and things of that nature. 00:19:56.480 --> 00:19:59.200 Now, we're not we're not of this earth anymore. 00:19:59.359 --> even serious into all this uh other things that can be hindering us that God will make clear to us that is keeping us from completely walking in the image of Christ. 00:20:21.359 --> 00:20:26.319 Such now we have looked up and hopefully have gotten a little bit more understanding of. 00:20:26.480 --> 00:20:31.039 So let's go to uh before I go to Matthew 13, let's go over to 1 Timothy. 00:20:31.680 here. 00:21:14.640 --> 00:21:29.359 And we're gonna start at verse 6, and we're gonna finish up all the way verse 16 as we get a more detailed description from the Apostle Paul to Timothy on what spiritual maturity actually looks like. 00:21:30.319 --> 00:21:33.599 Alright, now let's start at verse 6. 00:21:35.839 --> 00:21:43.039 It says here, for I am already being poured out as a drink offering. 00:21:43.119 --> 00:21:51.839 Now we saw the apostle Paul talk about being a drink offering in the book of Philippians, and meaning he's giving it all he has. 00:21:51.920 --> 00:21:57.599 There's a saying in football talks about emptying out the bucket, he's left it all out there. 00:21:58.000 --> 00:22:08.880 All the wisdom that was given, he's Poured it all out on the people that he has helped to establish in God's word as he's getting ready to come closer to his time of death. 00:22:08.960 --> 00:22:17.200 And the time, look at this, of my departure from this world is at hand, and I will soon go free. 00:22:17.440 --> 00:22:29.279 Now, the apostle Paul talked about in Philippians chapter 1, how he was hard-pressed to stay home in this body and to go home to be with the Lord. 00:22:29.680 --> 00:22:33.039 To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. 00:22:33.119 --> 00:22:42.000 Now, a lot of people will talk about that being a figure of speech, but it doesn't sound like that from the way that the Apostle Paul talked about this in Philippians chapter 1. 00:22:42.160 --> 00:22:44.720 Okay, verses 23 and 24. 00:22:44.880 --> 00:22:48.319 And so the apostle Paul now knows he's coming to the end of his life. 00:22:48.480 --> 00:22:51.599 At this point, he's not going to get released from prison. 00:22:51.839 --> 00:22:57.519 Okay, and his ultimate notable fight. 00:23:21.759 --> 00:23:28.640 I have finished the race, I have kept the faith firmly guarding the gospel against errors. 00:23:29.759 --> 00:23:42.559 Now, this is one of the things he admonished Timothy that Timothy needed to do when he's dealing with people, specifically in the vicinity, especially in his church, that are erring in the scripture. 00:23:42.799 --> 00:23:47.359 He is to correct them in a loving way and gentle way, in the truth, of course. 00:23:47.519 --> 00:23:52.559 Verse 8 In the future there is reserved for me the victor's crown of what? 00:23:52.880 --> know this personally because I went through this transition when I was really studying this word and getting before God, and He was helping me to understand why I fell into certain traps that I fell --> 00:34:04.880 Now it took me time to get to this point. 00:34:04.960 --> 00:34:11.840 I could be sad and depressed about something and go pray about it, and the burden gets released, and I'm people don't like to take it because it slows them down from them being who they really feel themselves are, and that's why they don't really like to take the medicine because they don't want their lives feeling slowed down. 00:34:31.679 --> 00:34:45.199 But the word doesn't do that in that sense, but it does recover us the more that we grow in this righteousness of Jesus and understand this word, we get faster recovery time just like getting in an ice tub. 00:34:45.519 --> 00:34:58.800 Okay, and so just like getting in an ice tub where we're getting uh faster recovery in muscles that we've had to work out, whether it's practice or the weight room or whatever the case may be. 00:34:59.039 --> 00:35:14.639 You see a lot of football players that do it and they get in these ice tubs, these have these ice baths, because they've used a lot of the parts of their body that they need a faster recovery time uh to get them ready for the next practice or getting closer to the game day. 00:35:14.800 --> 00:35:31.599 Okay, and so we have to look at this word allowing us to do the same thing, and if we're not receiving that energetic recovery through the Holy Spirit quick enough, we know that there are some issues, transformation is being hindered because of certain things in our lives that are happening. 00:35:31.840 --> 00:35:44.400 But verse 3 in Galatians chapter 6, it reads this for if anyone thinks he is something special, when in fact he is nothing special except in his own eyes, he deceives himself. 00:35:44.639 --> 00:36:09.199 Now, this is what the whole situation is of removing self-importance because you begin to value yourself more than you really are, and that's very dangerous, okay, and this is why the apostle Paul is preaching and teaching against self-importance, and this is part of the walk check. 00:36:09.440 --> 00:36:28.159 Watch this, verse 4, but each one must carefully scrutinize, look at this, his own work, examining his actions, dangerous place when we compare ourselves to what someone else has because we don't have it, and we're more focused on trying to have what they have instead of focusing on what God is doing and trying image of Christ is not happening, you're not seeing evidence of that like you're supposed to, then God will make it clear to you what those issues are that is keeping you from walking in the image. and a lot of us don't realize this because many of us grow up in households that normalize the way that we think and do stuff, and so we don't realize and understand that a lot of these decisions that we make are against the word of God, but because we've normalized a lot of these things in our lives, it's the reason why we naturally do them without thought to it, until we have that encounter with God where He addresses those things. 00:40:48.320 --> 00:40:51.199 Alright, so now let's go to Ecclesiastics chapter 11. 00:40:51.280 --> 00:40:53.760 Look at verse 9 and 10. 00:40:55.519 --> this, sorrow and anger from your heart and put away pain from your body for childhood in the prime of life are fleeting. 00:42:25.599 --> 00:42:31.599 Now, most of you probably didn't even realize that this was in here, and when I saw it, it blew my mind. 00:42:33.039 --> 00:42:43.840 But ladies and gentlemen, we can actually pack down sorrow, unresolved sorrow, unresolved anger, and unresolved leading up into our youthful lives, which leads us ultimately into our adult lives. 00:43:37.119 --> 00:43:42.400 You see, King Solomon talking about remember your creator in the days of your youth. 00:43:42.559 --> 00:43:56.320 When you're making these decisions and things that you are doing, you got to be careful because if you're making decisions to do things that are not of God and what he walking in the righteousness of Jesus Christ, which will break the continued patterns that we have established for ourselves from our childhood all the way up into our adulthood. 00:45:36.480 -->
