morning, the consideration of God's hand. 00:06:24.240 --> 00:06:28.000 I want you to see in Joshua chapter 24, verse 1. 00:06:28.639 --> 00:06:40.000 Then Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem and called for the elders of Israel, for their heads, for their judges, for their officers, and they presented themselves before God. 00:06:40.319 --> 00:06:44.160 And so, letter A is this the last of Joshua's gatherings. 00:06:44.319 --> 00:06:46.720 If you look, we kind of took a big leap. 00:06:46.879 --> 00:06:48.959 So chapter 10 is where we left off. 00:06:49.120 --> 00:06:57.839 Chapter 11 through 22 is Joshua and the Israelites' conquests and dividing of the land out as inheritances. 00:06:58.000 --> 00:07:02.079 And then in Joshua chapter 23, kind of a funny thing happens in these two. 00:07:02.240 --> 00:07:05.120 Joshua chapter 23 is his farewell address. 00:07:05.439 --> 00:07:09.839 He tells everyone, this is everything I have left to tell you. 00:07:10.240 --> 00:07:17.040 And then it's as if God spoke to him and he says, wait a second, there's just another thing. 00:07:17.199 --> 00:07:20.079 And he says, I need you to gather everybody up together again. 00:07:20.240 --> 00:07:21.680 I need all the important people. 00:07:21.759 --> 00:07:30.720 I need the mayor, I need the city officials, I need the city council, I need all the presidents, definitely the moms that work in the mother, you know, the programs in school. 00:07:30.800 --> 00:07:38.720 I need everybody on the PTO, I need everybody important, the principals, I need the sheriffs, and I need everybody to gather at Shechem. 00:07:39.519 --> 00:07:40.959 Now that's important. 00:07:41.439 --> 00:07:43.199 Why is Shechem important? 00:07:43.519 --> 00:07:48.800 Because the name of Shechem is the covenant city, it's the place of God's promise. 00:07:48.959 --> 00:07:54.560 And so Joshua gets everybody together and presents themselves before God. 00:07:54.720 --> 00:07:55.439 That's what it says. 00:07:55.519 --> 00:07:57.279 It says, they bring themselves together. 00:07:57.360 --> 00:07:57.839 That's important. 00:07:58.000 --> 00:08:00.639 Don't miss that phrase at the that. 00:08:09.040 --> 00:08:11.839 They expect to hear from God from Joshua. 00:08:12.000 --> 00:08:17.519 They're presenting themselves to God at the covenant city where Joshua is speaking. 00:14:03.600 --> 00:14:07.600 And it's used in a variety of ways that I want to talk to you about. 00:14:07.919 --> 00:14:12.080 About 60% of the time, Hesed is translated mercy. 00:14:12.320 --> 00:14:15.840 Sometimes Hesed is translated loving kindness. 00:14:16.080 --> 00:14:23.519 Sometimes Hesed is translated just kindness, sometimes goodness, sometimes translated steadfast love.
