Hi, welcome to the Fragrance Podcast. I'm Kiana Maxon, and I am so excited to be here. Fragrance is a ministry that seeks to create safe spaces for women to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Whether it's a worship night, inner healing and deliverance prayer, a Bible study, our fun monthly event like morning routine, or now this podcast, we long to see women know the love of the Father, step into deeper intimacy with Jesus Christ, and be filled with his Holy Spirit. And this season of the podcast, we are talking about what it looks like to live as exiles in an empire. How do we as citizens of the kingdom of God live in an empire that is in direct opposition to the kingdom of God? And today I am so excited. I have two of my dear, dear friends, Elle and Shannon, on to talk about what it looks like to open a business, talk about the beauty and wellness industry, talk about discernment, how to walk as citizens of the kingdom of God and live in discernment filled with the Holy Spirit, connected to the vine, in a world in an industry that is in direct opposition to the kingdom of God. And so I am so excited for today. Buckle up, let's go. Okay, so this morning I was praying for you guys. Yeah. I was reminded of it's an ancient Jewish blessing, and it says, May you be covered in the dust of your rabbi. Meaning, like you are following him so closely. You are walking behind your rabbi. You're literally covered in the dust, his like shoes fling up. And like that is you guys with Jesus. Like you are literally covered in the dust of your rabbi. Like there are so many things, like I so many things that go to you guys for. Like, hey, pray for this, pray about this. Number one, because I know you don't just like walk the walk, you talk, or you don't just talk the talk, you walk the walk. Like when you say you're gonna pray, you pray. And that is like such a rare, like I feel like so many people in our goals are like, oh, praying for that. It's been praying for you. Yeah, and that's been such a conviction for me in my life, where it's like, no, I've started just be like, okay, let's pray right now. Yes. You know, and it's like, I know when I text you guys, you're gonna pray, and I know that you know our rabbi. Like that's the thing, is like you know our rabbi so well that I know I could go to you for advice because you're gonna be like, what would the rabbi say? Yeah, what would Jesus say? Well and I love that about you guys so much. And um, this is a proverb that came to mind also this morning when praying for you guys was above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity, keep corrupt pop from keep corrupt talk from your lips, let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths of your feet and be steadfast in all of your ways. Do not turn to the right or to the left, keep your foot from evil. And that I feel like once again describes you both. Okay and how you live your life, not just your business, but your life too. And so I want to talk about this beauty and wellness industry. Is I feel like like anything that starts off good, the world just like corrupts and tries to take it in a completely opposite direction. And I mean, it's idolatry of self, idolatry of vanity and beauty, it's um not even just idolatry, like witchcraft, yeah, new age stuff, Reiki, energy healing, all of these demonic things have come into this thing that God cares about our bodies. God cares about our bodies are temples, the dwelling place of the living God. Very true. And so, what has that journey been like for you guys in dealing with an industry industry that has gone so witchy? Yeah, new agey. Yeah, yeah, you know?
SPEAKER_01I feel like I could talk about this forever.
SPEAKER_03Let's go.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I feel like pretty early on, even in like my own walk with Jesus, when I started this, I was kind of still, I was like kind of coming back into wanting to have a relationship with Jesus. I feel like I had a bit of a like a leaving and coming back like prodigal son moment. Um, and it wasn't for long, it was just for maybe like a few years or so, but like I did have it, and I just knew in my spirit as I was coming back into relationship with Jesus and then also um starting this career that I it felt so icky to just be so superficial, and I didn't even start it because I was obsessed with skin, I was like in love with people, like I love people, yeah, and I wanted to see them well body, spirit, soul. Yeah, I was obsessed with psychology. I wanted thought I wanted to be a psychologist. I loved health, which is why I went to school at IIN to be a nutritional health coach. Um, I loved everything that I saw, but from early on, I wanted to bring in those elements of like emotional and physical health to see changes in the skin. I needed something deeper, or I felt bored. Yep. And so I went deeper, deeper, deeper, and then it started uncovering people's relationship to food and why they do have food addictions, why they can't stop drinking, and that's causing all of these like issues, studying the face mapping of the skin, yeah, liver, colon, hormones. Like you could just tell so much about what's going on internally and why can't they give up these things? So it was very psychological, very emotional. But on my own journey with Jesus and how much he's healed me, I started then learning about the huge spiritual component of it all. Yeah. Living in fear and not faith, what that does to your nervous system, how how that destroys their skin of worry, worry, worry. They can have the most perfect diet, the most perfect everything on paper, doing everything right, great skincare, and still worry, stress, playing their own God, hating themselves, judging others, unforgiveness, bitterness, comparison. Their skin's a mess.
SPEAKER_03Their skin's a mess. Well, it literally, uh I think it's Proverbs says envy makes the bones sick. Yes, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Proverbs 17, 28. Yes, one or twenty two.
SPEAKER_03Emotions can physically make you sick.
SPEAKER_01We see that all the time. People with them, all the money in the world. Yeah, and like why riddled. You just see it on their face, the frowning, and they can't get rid of it, the acne because they they just like even the inflammation, the redness. Like, yeah, it's so sad to see, and that's why it was started off for me the the more obvious ones. What's your diet like? Ugh, and it's like too far. It's like cool, yeah. And like that's important, yes, yes, yes. But it's just such a tip, the tip of the iceberg that I feel like God was really like, bring me into it more, bring me into it more. And they can't ever refute like spiritual truths. Like, even my clients were atheists, even my clients were agnostic. I'm just like, wow, okay, where do you find peace? Like asking them these questions. Where do you find peace? I don't know when I'm here once a month. And you're like, Well, yeah, I'm like, wow, maybe you are are you did you grow up believing anything? We just talk about these big things. When was the last time you felt peace? Who in your life has the most peace? I don't know, people who believe in something. I'm like, we need to start there. Do you not trust God? Where does this stem from? And then, because they're doing everything right. I'm like, you don't have peace. You don't have so many things that only come from Jesus. So we start talking about that, and then God's like, pray over this person in the room, pray over this, pray over that. Yeah, don't say anything, just be a sounding board. Whatever he says, I'm like, okay, I'll do. Yeah, and that's where the spiritual side comes in because it's very intimate. Yes. These people are like burying their souls, they can't hide anything. Yes. And that's my like more of my like metamorphosis into all of it. Yeah. Like, how do I instill like biblical wisdom and truth? Yeah. Or they're like, oh my gosh, I what do you think about this trend or this trend or this trend? And like so hard on themselves. I'm like, Yeah, listen, we're inundated with way too much information. What's wisdom? Yeah. And I was like, wisdom is never left, wisdom is always here. Yep. Stop listening to everything.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And that's what I had to stop doing. It's just like grasping for straws. I'm like, God, what is wisdom? Yeah. Wisdom is I want to go to the root cause. I'm not gonna give you a $200 serum until we get to the root cause. If you still wanted that later, sure. Because it's a band-aid. Yes. And I'm like, you do have no peace, and you need to like give this problem to God. Yeah. Like why spend all your money and like just toil toy.
SPEAKER_03Once again, like we're living in information overload. Yes. And it's not all bad. Yes. Right. How about the instruction manual? Yeah. You need wisdom for wellness. This is your beauty and wellness. Yeah. Transforming life. Transform the living, breathing word of God. Ancient practices. People like, oh, this ancient mud from Cleopatra. Like, okay, cool. This is an ancient practice and it's trustworthy.
SPEAKER_01Nothing will make you more beautiful than God's peace. Oh my gosh. Literally nothing.
SPEAKER_03And it's the grass withers and the flower's face, but the word of the Lord is forever. It's so good. It's so good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I, gosh, there's so many things I wanted to like add on to like what you're saying. Yeah, I mean, I don't even know. But I feel like going into like blending or weaving in all this new age stuff, like the place that we came from. Yeah. You want to talk about spiritual warfare. Yeah. And you want to talk about witchcraft and new age and all that stuff. It was like breeding ground.
SPEAKER_01For a while, there was like Buddhas in the room.
SPEAKER_00It was pretty wild.
SPEAKER_01They got this place Feng Shui at one point, spiritual energy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And like when I had first got, I don't want to get into too many things, but when I had first gotten there, I had come out of Mormonism. Yeah. And dabbling in the world.
SPEAKER_03Literally, never, another podcast for another day. Like a story. Stay tuned.
SPEAKER_00And then coming out of Mormonism, dabbling in a little new age like energy work stuff because still searching and like having that like wanting spirituality, but I'm like, what?
SPEAKER_01She had asked one time. She's like, I just, can I just like work on you? Can I do some reiki? And I was like, but I didn't want to, because I don't want to insult her. So I was like, totally stuff going on. And she's like backing over. And then she's like, why are you dodging me?
SPEAKER_00But then at the same time, it's like I was so attracted to like the light in Elle, right? Because I like I could feel like I was like, this place, like day one, when I don't know. Yeah. What's off? This is crazy. This is gnarly, but like I didn't have language for it, you know, kind of thing. Yeah. But I feel like Elle already, when she was there, was doing such a good, I didn't say it right, was doing such a good job of, okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00My workplace was doing such a good job in there of already. Like people could feel in her room like a difference. Praying over the room with me. Okay, I'm gonna start praying over my room. It took me. And like we was that we have her front desk girls, they'd be like, yours in Elle's room like feels different.
SPEAKER_01She goes, out of all the rooms at this place, who's your favorite? Like whose room? She goes, I would ask the randomest questions ever went in there.
SPEAKER_00I'm like, I'm polling. I love stats, I love polls. I love it. I love it.
SPEAKER_01It was so good. It was so true. And they were like your guys' rooms. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And we're like, well, we pray over them. And we can feel it and everything. Anyway, so I feel like Elle was such like a good example of that to then bring it into like rad facials, but then even just having like my history of it, like I'm so like, oh my gosh, like stay away. And then I think we were going when we were like doing Toastmasters and stuff, we'd also been going to like some networking stuff of friends who are also in, not just aestheticians, but wellness, health, beauty, right? Yes. And it all of it is new age. It's like the chiropractors, the massage, therapists. They're like shamans, they're like some of the therapy. And so we go and we're in a room with 30 women. Yes. And they're all like they're wanting to do like their whatever, all their things, and we're just like praying. And like we're like, okay. And we went like twice, and then we're like, okay, unless we're gonna start talking about Jesus, like how they're coming at us, we're not coming to these things. But then I think that's like instilled the fire in us more of like our warehouse. Like when you come to Red Facials, like it's set apart, it's like a place of like safety and refuge, where even if people don't necessarily know Jesus, like what you're saying about truth, like truth resonates with people, whether they know what they're feeling or not.
SPEAKER_03Okay, the scripture I wrote down this morning, Ecclesiastes 3.11, he has placed eternity, which is a sense of divine purpose in the hearts of man.
SPEAKER_02Oh wait, we read that again.
SPEAKER_03He has placed eternity in the hearts of man. So he has placed in in the amplified um translation says he's God has placed eternity, a sense of divine purpose in parentheses in the hearts of man. So people are created to connect with their creator, whether they know it or not. And when they walk into your room, they feel connected to their creator. That's my and they feel home.
SPEAKER_00We have people come into our warehouse and they're done with their appointments, and luckily we build in like time for after to be able to talk a little. Yeah. But like so many people that aren't believers that they don't want to leave. Like they stand at the front door and they won't leave.
SPEAKER_03The eternity, the eternity that's been placed in their heart is feeling connected to one there. It's so special. And the thing about that's so scary, well, not scary and like we have to be afraid of it, but just that's more like, oh no. Like about the new ageness of the beauty oneless industry is it's um it's masqueraded as like cute and trendy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Like I like free people spells or sells spell books. Like um, like Reiki, like people think like Reiki is like this fun thing, or like even it creeping its way into Christianity. Like I was talking to someone um maybe a couple years ago, and they were like, no, no, no, I do Reiki, but it's like Christian Reiki. It's like you can't just slap the name of Jesus on something evil. Oh my gosh. And it's like, oh, it's oh no, it's like prayer, but but you're in control. That is the direct opposite of prayer. Prayer is to cultivate dependency on the creator, on God. Yeah, and it's like it's masquerading as these cute, trendy things, like, oh, I have these crystals because this, this, and that, and it comes from the earth, and God created the earth, right? Yeah, think about it. We can misuse things, right? It's like, yeah, and so I think that that's what's so scary, or like people like, oh, it's just like white magic, dark magic. No, it's all magic. Yeah, it is all demonic. Anything that is not giving power and glory to Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone, that He is enough, yeah, plus nothing, it's so true.
SPEAKER_00Well, and if you have to say, well, Jesus, but this, this, and this. There's no butt. Jesus, but it's like, no, there's no but Jesus only periods.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Like people think, oh, I believe in Jesus, but also like zodiac sign. Yes. And you're like, no. Yes. Like God, the scripture clearly calls out astrology and calls out depending on the sun and the moon. Like when God says don't carry idols into the promised land, he says don't worship the sun, the moon, and the stars. Like that is in scripture.
SPEAKER_01It's Deuteronomy, I think. We know Christians who like burn sage to cleanse things, and I'm like, why don't you just pray? Yeah, like why don't you just use the Holy Spirit? Why are you burning sage? Right. Like, I don't, I just don't get it. I don't get it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Once again, it's the counterfeit power.
SPEAKER_01I will say though, we have a lot of new age clients that come in, and they are more easy to talk to about principles and spiritual principles than even religious Christians. Yeah. There are some really rigid religious Christians, and they are so stuck in their ways that if I talk about Jesus, they're offended. Yeah. And then we have new age people that come in and they've studied principles because principles cannot be refuted. They know how the principles of laws and nature work. Yeah. Yeah. And they're so easy to connect with. Yeah. And then as I just start talking about Jesus, they're like, oh yeah, yeah, yeah. They're just good words, but like, yeah, yeah. Yeah, we're tracking at least. Yeah. And some religious Christians so offended by it by oh talking about talking about the Holy Spirit. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's so true. It's so sad. It's pretty wild. And I think the enemy's goal is to get you to think that these things don't actually have real power. Yeah. Like the Buddhas in your rooms, or or whatever it is, or I mean crystals, Reiki, like whatever new age practice spell. Like, oh, to get you to laugh at it. Oh, it's just for fun. And it's like, that's not funny. That's weird. That's like that is, and it's just, it's becoming more and more into our culture. And it's like dark. It's dark. But it's masquerading as angels of light. It's masquerading as like, oh, it's just like kind of witchy, like I'm I'm a witchy girl, or like whatever. It's like, no, no, we are we are temples of a holy God. Yeah. Who would like literally? I had someone the other day talk about his holiness as like the old testament, the Holy Spirit, God was dangerously holy. Yeah. Like they took it so seriously. Someone even well-intended accidentally touched the Ark of the Covenant and died. Yeah. God is dangerously holy. Yes. And now He dwells in us. And so you are dangerous too to the spiritual realm. Yeah. And I think that's why you guys faced so much opposition at your workplaces because there was so much witchcraft, so much, so much, and spirituality going on. And so, like, that's gonna clash. Yeah. Like that is going to clash.
SPEAKER_01I was learning about deliverance ministry years ago. Yeah. And about how to protect your space and pray over it. Yeah. And I did, this was years ago, this is probably like five years ago. I prayed. I was so nervous of this one client coming in. She was so heavy. She is hard. So had dabbled in so much darkness and carries a lot of witchcraft with her and manipulation. So I she was on my books one day and I prayed over every nook and cranny of my space. I sealed everything with the Holy Spirit. And when she came in, she felt so weird. She was so uncomfortable that the whole time she knew she was booked with me. She left and she asked the front desk, Who did I have a facial with? They're like, Oh, L. And then I've given her facials before. She goes, That wasn't L. Like it was different to her. And then they're like, No, she goes, Well, uh, I I want to cancel my membership. I don't want to come anymore. And they're like, Well, why? And she had no answer. But she came in and she couldn't carry this really crazy stuff with her. And then she felt so disarmed, uncomfortable. And she's like, I want to cancel. I I don't know why that felt so off to me. Yeah, it was the wildest thing. I was praying over my room.
SPEAKER_03I was the same. That's the thing. We have so much power. I know. I think, yep. So much power, so much authority. Like it's crazy. I remember you reminded me of the story. Ben and I were walking Bubble Island, and we walked past. There were these three, they were clearly witches. These three girls, literally, I know. Yeah. No. And they, I literally heard them cursing the island, like calling on spirits of things on the island. No. And I walked, I felt sick in my soul felt sick. And I walked past, and as soon as we turned the corner, I started breaking off every curse that they like. I said, hold on, Ben. And I turned her on, I start breaking off every curse. I start praying against whatever like demonic spirits that they're going up to. And it's just like we don't have to be afraid of these things. 100%. That's the thing, is you just cover your room in prayer, the spiritual realm knows. I truly believe that I broke those curses off immediately. It was like she was spewing them out, and I was like, uh-uh, no way. And it's like, if we know the authority we carry in Christ, we don't have to be afraid of these things. We can use discernment and not dabble in these things. Yeah, it's so true. But I mean, it's like it's it's are we taking the spiritual realm seriously? Because Paul takes it seriously, Jesus takes it seriously. Like Paul literally says the battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, the authorities, the principalities, the powers of this dark world. I know. And it's so much more real than we think. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's so easy to do. And it's like that. Yeah. Like give that it's someone instead of the spirituality. Exactly. 100%.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And I think even just like, yes, we're in this industry of new age, but then it's like, yes, even just people you're working with or like just the manipulation and control and stuff that people are operating out of. Like it's also witchcraft. So then it's like, I feel like he's heightened our discernment with that, with like even people like partnering like with our business, and God's like, nope, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Once you start a business, everyone wants something funny.
SPEAKER_03Okay, I want to talk about that because that's something I feel like I'm even learning from you guys with Frank. So weird. Oh, yeah. So I want to talk about like, let's say someone says, Hey, let's collab. What's your process?
SPEAKER_01Well, we were praying at the beginning of the year. We're like praying and fasting a little bit on January 1st. Yes. Let's see what God wants for rad facials. Yeah. And I prayed about other areas of my life too, but rad facials specifically, God was like, pray over every event you do and everyone you want to collab with. Do not say yes to anything without consulting me. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Even if it's a good friend. Yes. Even if it's a good thing. Yeah. Yep. Or it looks good on paper, you know. Right. Or it could technically like be good exposure or woodworking.
SPEAKER_01It makes no sense in the natural why we shouldn't maybe do something. Yeah. Yes. We've been praying. Yeah. And some things God's like, you decide. Like it's pretty neutral. Yeah. You you do what you want with it. Just trusting us with it. Yeah. Yeah. Like, yeah. If you guys want to do this, then do it. And then some he's like, hard no. Yeah. Hard no. Like very clear. Yeah. And then some people he the he's like, yes, you're gonna do that.
SPEAKER_00So usually if someone approaches us though, we're just like, oh, okay, like, yeah, like we'll think about it. We'll think about it. We'll pray about it. We tell people we're gonna pray about it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And lots of Christians are no's, which is was wild to me. And it's not because they're bad. No. But we don't know what they're operating out of. That's what they're operating out of. Yeah. There are so many Christians that have come to us, they're like, let's do a trade. Like, you're like marketing for these things or whatever. And in the natural, we're getting a great deal. We're like, yeah. But God's like, no, that person's got a mouth, they gossip, they're gonna just spread things. Yeah, they don't even know what they're operating out of. They're gonna create chaos for you. Do not let them in. Like protect what I'm doing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03That's so good.
SPEAKER_01There's been a lot of those. A lot of those.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and it's hard though, because you have to figure out how to say no to your friends. Yes.
SPEAKER_00It's interesting though. I feel like some people we say, like, okay, like we'll talk about it and like we'll pray about it and we'll let you know. And they kind of fall off too. Yes. Because it's almost like, again, going back to like the spiritual realm, it's like, oh, we're praying about it. Like it's like there's already this, like, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So we we pray about each one. And sometimes we don't. And then I have to like almost like repent really fast. We're like, I'm so sorry, I forgot God. Because we talk about that story, the story that haunts me. And it was, I think it was Joshua leading the Israelites into the promised land. And then God's like, pray before each battle or each encounter or each treaty. And then we've talked about this with the the the weary, like poor travelers coming who were disguising as that, but really they were a nearby army. And they had like fake stale bread that they had just let out staying out for days prior to them traveling. And then when they came to like, just make a treaty with us. We've come so far, we're just lowly people. And he's like, Of course. Like that's sweet and that's merciful. And then God's like, you didn't consult with me, and they're gonna be a thorn in your side. Wow. And so I'm haunted by that of like who I think in the natural just seems like not a threat. Yeah. And then they'll like really thwart what God wants to do with rock facials. Wow. So it's like even the most unassuming people, I'm like, I have to pray. Wow.
SPEAKER_00I'm like, we're not perfect about it either. Like, we'll be like, God's like, no. And then we're like, yeah, but why? Like, what are they actually gonna do? And not that we actually partner with them, but we still question and we talk it out, and we're like, but why? And then we're like, wait, okay, remember, he said this, we're trusting it. Why do you need to mean you don't need to know, but your brain just wants to know answers, our brains want answers.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's so true. But if God's like, no, we know we don't know. We don't know, great.
SPEAKER_00Like, no, yeah, and then other opportunities come.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, and maybe it's a simple like, um, I don't want you to be busy because I have something else coming. Yes. Like that's not bad, though. Like that could be like as simple as that.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't even mean that they're operating as you.
SPEAKER_03But some are, yeah, some are, yeah, and then some are. Well, and I think too, even Ben and I were talking about this last night on our walk of like who we let lay hands on is is so important. Like when you are booking a facial, a massage, any sort of thing in beauty and wellness, like have there have like because it's such a new age industry, these hands could have just performed Reiki, these hands could have just cursed, these hands could have been holding. It's like we don't want to be scared and look for demons behind every rock. Right. However, like use discernment for the listeners, like use discernment when you're booking appointments, when you're going into things. Like, ask Lord God, is this someone who I want? Like, because it's intimate, like speaking over me. You don't know what they're praying over you. You don't know what they're what they're doing when your eyes are closed and your face is down. Like, what are they putting on you? Like, no. Has this oil been blessed by some sort of new age spirit? It's so true. What are like what is this person putting on you? And so I think that like it almost goes both ways, and like as the client, yes, like I don't let a lot of people touch me. Oh yeah, like like whose hands are you letting touch? So incredible.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. I know, yeah. It reminds me of the lymphatic drainage place that we were trained at. Yes, and the woman who owns it is brilliant, completely brilliant. And the and the technique she created with this lymphatic drainage is oh, I've never seen anything like it in my life. I was so blessed to be have been able to be trained by her, but there was a lot of dark things she was operating out of. And there was a weird, interesting thing she had with me because I did not want to work for her. Yeah. And I had a last training with her, and I was getting, I was part of like the prophetic prayer group, and this guy was like praying over me, and he was like, Do you know someone by this name? And he's like, I feel like there's a curse on you. And I was like, Yes, how do you know? He was like, Well, there's a is there any way she could have got a piece of your hair? And I was like, Yes, because she touches my head. It was so wild.
SPEAKER_00It was crazy. It was and this was at the time when you had the rash that you were. I had brought it. This is the rash thing.
SPEAKER_01Yes. I had a systemic staph infection all over my body. My body was aching, my liver would ache when I would walk. I had a rash all over my face, but I didn't like her.
SPEAKER_00But then the enemy was also capitalizing on it, too.
SPEAKER_01Like it was so. It would flare up before house church. It would flare up before church on Sunday. It would flare up before I was going to see Zach, and I really cared. Like, we had just started dating, like what I would look like. You know what I mean? And I would pray, we'd pray, we'd pray, it'd go down. Then it would come back up. It was crazy. I could show you pictures, it was the gnarliest thing that I've ever had on my entire face. It was, and it was painful. It would heat up, and I would just was during that time and that got away. So he started praying over me, and then we started praying, and it it like the reversed, like everything reversed. But it was wild, but just as easy as that. Like, and you don't, yeah. Who can get a piece? And like, yeah, I'm not saying that's everyone, of course, but that's where discernment comes in. Yes. If God, if you want to book something, someone in your spirit, you're like, ah, but I don't know. But she has all these techniques I want. Yeah, just follow that. And like if God's directing you somewhere else, just don't do it.
SPEAKER_00I would say that too, especially in the new age industry. Like, even us, like, we'll ask our clients, like, is it okay if we pray over you? Yeah, right? Yeah. Like we're still asking if that's okay. Yeah. In the new age industry and world, they don't ask, they just do it. And like, I've been getting a massage, and then all of a sudden there's like sage going over, like I could smell it. And I'm like, yeah, you didn't even ask, and now I'm so upset. Yeah. And I'm not coming back. Yeah, it's so exciting. And it's so it's it's so disheartening.
SPEAKER_03It's very that's why it's so important where you go to. And it's like, I think that it's like we compromise so easily as humans. Like, oh, well, I mean, she's kind of like new agey, but it's like no ifs ands are buts. Yeah. Like if God tells you to be holy because I'm holy, that means let go of anything. Yes. We don't compromise as Christians. Like, so true. I don't care if this massage therapist has been the best massage therapist you've ever been to and has healed your back. Yeah. Yeah. But she's new agey. But yeah, and she's a shaman or something.
SPEAKER_01No, it's like, no, run.
SPEAKER_00No. Run.
SPEAKER_01Don't do that. I know that's not worth it. It's not worth it. We get we get that a lot. Yeah. We also get, obviously, in the beauty industry, like really people really searching for connection and a spiritual experience. Yes. And they're skin to be good. Yeah. Or they're just really rigid and hard of themselves perfectionist. Yeah. Comparison, struggle with self-rejection. Yeah. I feel like we get that too.
SPEAKER_00Which is wild in like this epicenter of like Orange County. Yes. Yeah. Yes. And so it's so funny because I feel like God keeps reminding us, like, he's like, you girls are so cute that you think this is like just about facials. Like just those two things you're saying. Yeah. And then like everything we've been through that, like he's walked us through. It's almost like this blueprint to like also like help others. Like he's like, I want everyone healed, you know? Yeah. Yeah. So it's like we're just like honored to be a part of it. Like, it's so true.
SPEAKER_03He's in charge.
SPEAKER_00We're just the managers.
SPEAKER_03Wow. No, literally. Yeah. And I love that like everything you guys are saying and everything you're talking about with discernment in what you who you talk to, what you dabble in, like everything. It's not out of legalism. No. It's because I think our culture is swung to this, like, now we like worship the idol of anti-legalism. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's like, no, it's not out of legalism. It's out of a desire for holiness. I so desperately want to be holy. I so desperately want to like confess my sins so that I can be more connected with God. Yes. I so desperately want to be holy that I it's not worth touching those things. Yeah. Like it's not out of like God's up there in heaven, like this, oh, don't do this, don't do that, this rule maker. Yeah. No, it's always for our benefit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I feel like if you're just tired suffering, though, I think I I struggled with a lot of pride, like especially in like my younger 20s. I think I had to unfortunately suffer a lot to come to the end of myself. And so once you get there and you're walking in so much freedom, I like don't ever want to go back. It's just not worth it. So it isn't out of legalism. It's like I love the peace and freedom that I have. Yeah. But I don't want to open so many doors that the enemy has, like, even like through unforgiveness. God is really working on my heart with offenses and unforgiveness. Oh, yeah. Because I, those are other small things. There's so much nuance to it too. We think like unforgiveness is like hating someone and like actively wishing them harm. It's not. No. It's like so much more than that. And so I don't want any foothold that the enemy can have because I'm so tired of causing unnecessary suffering in my life. Yeah. That I like want all the peace and freedom that God, only God offers. That that's why it's like it's not even sexy anymore. Like it's not even cute to me to like dabble in it. No. Like it would have been in my young 20s, right? Of wanting, of wanting to be a part of like something that seemed like a sexy trend. You know what I mean? So I'm just like it's not attractive.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But it's because I'm walking in more freedom and peace than I've ever walked in before. So it's like, it's just not cute to me anymore. Personally. Yeah. So really it's not out of legalism. Legalism is like, I have to do this to uh be righteous or like self-righteous or like I want to look a certain way or be pious. It's like, no, I just want to hang out with God.
SPEAKER_00That shows like the fruits of it that you are walking in, like the freedom and peace. Yeah, it's just careful.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's like if you can look at your why, it's like, oh, it's like I love God. And I just want to be like him. Yeah. That's what we're supposed to do. Like, I want to come face to face at the end of days with Jesus and be like wow. Like, I look like you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And when you stop caring too through this process, like we've even said, even if it all blew up in our face and nothing ever happened with the vision God gave us, who He has been refining us to be, I would never go back. Oh, yeah. Even if I God was like, okay, now be a bus driver down. Sure. Yeah. I love who I am now and I love the freedom I walk in. I don't care.
SPEAKER_00I'll do anything. And like our identity is like so rooted in him. It's wild. Oh, that's so good. That's yeah.
SPEAKER_03Okay, well, as we before we close, will you read your manifesto for rad facials?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you want to read some of these summer what? We started like cultivating this because, and there's nothing not knocking anyone that does Botox and fillers like you do you. We just don't want to do that. And I just I just feel like you don't have to get some of the results that you want. Um, and for God to teach you how to be a good steward of your body, and when you live in alignment, so many of the problems that we don't like about our skin actually start healing themselves. And so I'm not knocking it, but I also I don't promote it either.
SPEAKER_00And I feel like sorry, we're not and I feel like with that, like, yes, we don't want to do it, but there's also so many other women that don't want to too, but they'll feel this pressure that they need to. So then it's coming to a place where else like the Queen of State, it's just like you just have some fineline riggers because you're dehydrated. Like it's honestly 80% of our clients are just dehydrated, yeah. They're not either drinking enough water or their products aren't that great. Yes, and it's wild how your skin can transform with just that, and you don't have to pay a ton of money for all this other stuff. So it's like also like showing people again, like it's like another way of like you don't have to do the vortex, all these cellars, everything like that. Yes, and I don't know. So I feel like it's like it's not even just for us, but it's like it's almost like people can like breathe. Like we have people come in, they're like, I'm thinking about doing it, I'm thinking about doing it. What do you think? And we're like, well, you came to like place because we're gonna tell you not to do and they're like, you're like, great, I'm not gonna do it.
SPEAKER_01And so it's like spend all that money, they're afraid of the poison, like yeah, the botulism in their skin. Right, yeah. I mean, there's so many horror stories that we've heard too. So it's like if you if your conscience is saying no, like that's what God gave you to help guide and rule, like honor it, don't violate it. Yeah, trust that, and explore other things.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then also we're here to help give tools of like all these things you can do internally, right now that's gonna heal your skin. If we put up a thing of my skin when it was really bad, like it's crazy how much is transformed. It was so it's so true. Jesus and like so much internal stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And my skin's better at 38. Yeah, 38 than it was at 30. Wow. And I know the melasma I had that was hormonal related, like, let me figure out how to heal my hormones, right? Your rosacea, let me figure out how to heal my gut and my liver. Yeah, wow. It's wild. And so it's such a, yeah, but then it's such like a like a map to what's happening internally. That's why it's like we're body, spirit, soul. Let's like go over things. Yeah, we try and give clients tangible steps to apply at home, like things to help heal the liver. Yeah, processing and like helping with their emotional regulation, processing emotions. Um asking them who they need to forgive. Yes, straight up.
SPEAKER_03Straight up. Yeah, well, I remember a Bible study on Friday. I can't remember who, but somebody asked you, like, what would you say is the number one thing to heal the liver, right? Yeah. And you go, not stifling emotions. And they were like, wait, I thought you were gonna say like a supplement or food. And then you're like, I mean, you guys like eat some arugula, but like, no, yeah. But you were like, no. And I remember I did a liver and lymph detox over the summer. Yes. And on the very last day, sorry for another time, through a turn of events, I ended up processing so much anger I didn't know was in myself with Ben, not at him, but just like in life, yeah, with him, and I was sobbing for like an hour and a half. And just like pro and I'm like whole, I didn't realize it was holding all this anger, and then me about a week later, I was like, I just finished a liver detox. Yes, like it got we are all one. Like everything in the body is connected to the soul and the spirit and mind and heart, and it's like I love it.
SPEAKER_01And I had a liver infection like 10 years ago, and I'm always trying to process and filter and emotional regulation, like I'm always supporting my liver. Yeah, because I just learned I tried every supplement, every doctor, like holistic, every diet. Yeah, it never healed. I was like, How did my liver get sick? I never I was never really a drinker, I never did drugs. How did this happen? And then God was really showing me it's the stuffed anger, yeah, it's bitterness, it's resentment, it's it's um self-hatred, it's unforgiveness. And I'm like, oh, I did all of that, and it made it weak and made my liver so sick. So when I do liver cleanses, I sob. Yeah, I sob, I sob, I sob on them. And it was like, oh, that's a lot that it hasn't. So we started like formulating uh like a good, we call it good skin like manifesto or something. Like, what are some things that take no effort and have to buy skin?
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's so good. Okay, lay them on us.
SPEAKER_01Okay, we'll say it really fast. One, we said get into alignment with God. You cannot out skin care peace from within. Oh, you just can't. I'm so good. You can't. I'm so sorry. I I've never been able to, and I've never seen someone do it. Yeah, two, find ways to heal from emotional stress in the body, past and present. The body really does keep the score. There's so many books we tell people to read. Yeah. So many the healing code, body keeps the score, a more excellent way. Yeah, such good books. Three, drink clean water, preferably water that has been filtered well and remineralized. We need minerals to absorb water into the cells and then help our cells just function properly. We're so much of us are in mineral and nutrition, nutritionally depleted. Yeah. It's not, it's like not in our soil anymore as it was like a hundred years ago. So we just have to be more intentional. Yeah. And so many people are drinking from their faucet or brita. And I'm like, Yeah. Okay, so we need to talk about that. Um for adopt an anti-inflammatory lifestyle. Try slowly replacing toxic products with clean ones. So they cut out processed foods and foods that seem to ignite inflammation from your body. Some of the ones we tell people to cut out just to see if it helps their acne, just to see if it helps with their pustural rosacea, is gluten, dairy, and eggs. Yeah. And there's a lot to say. And and obviously alcohol. So many people are vaping.
SPEAKER_03Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01So just these.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh, there's so much to say. Uh, addressing any sleep issues when your skin repairs while you sleep. Supporting your collagen through nutrition, knowing the skin loves antioxidants, vitamin C, amino acids, zinc, vitamin A, giving it building blocks to do what it wants to do. Wow. So, yeah, so support that. Heal the lipid barrier. So many people are using too many actives. Stop. It's actually destroying the lipid barrier.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_01A healthy lipid barrier needs hydration from water, moisture from oils. Wow. So when you're stripped, you're gonna overcompensate with oil. Then you're they're stripped, they're getting more texture, more blackheads, their skin doesn't repair properly.
SPEAKER_03And the actives are the AHAs, the Yes, okay.
SPEAKER_01And it's fine to do a little bit you need to know your skin, but most people are overdoing it, and their skin is assaulted in the morning and then assaulted at night and cannot heal and repair itself. Wow. So the the problems that they're seeing when their skin is healthy, adaptable, robust, it has the nutrition and the things it needs, it heals itself.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Asking for a friend. Yeah. How many, how many uh times a week would you say to use the uh AHA, BHA? Depends on how strong it is. Shin's face is saying telling you something.
SPEAKER_01Well, we use that that like more low-grade glycolic every night, but it's because we healed our lipid barrier first and it's low. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I feel like you have to heal the lipid barrier first and then act. We'll chat. We'll chat about the lipid barrier.
SPEAKER_01And you just know the telltale signs of like a stripped lipid barrier. Yeah. Because you could get away with a little bit every day, or you could do it once or twice a week and do a stronger one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then after that, we put red light therapy. It's good. We love it. It helps heal from the mitochondria up. Yeah. It is so good. And then the last thing is regulate your nervous system. So those were the ones that we found to be the most helpful. So good. Wow. Without buying a $200 cream, without doing bookets, without doing fillers. You can even do the first five and get such good results.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's the thing is most people, and again, this is why you guys are so set apart and holy, is because most people's manifesto for their business would not say like align yourself with God first.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Like most people would say, like, try our 10-step product process and do the here's a free trial, and here's whatever, whatever. You're like, no, we're not gonna sell you a product. We're not even gonna say come get a facial. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We're gonna like nowhere in there was like get facials regularly. Yeah, it's so you know you don't have to sell yourselves. God's once again, God's your PR, God's your promoter, God's like whatever. And it's like I just love that your first thing is well, get peace from within. You can't out skincare internal peace. Yes, you can't do it. And I think that's what once again, like the living is exiles and an empire. Everything you guys just said, everything you live your lives with is like in opposition to what the world is telling you to do. It's like work more, do your more, new age, whatever, witchcraft, yada yada, yada. It's like no, we're gonna make God our one and only. We're gonna know the real thing so well that the second the counterfeit comes across us, we're gonna say, nope, no, thank you. We're not gonna fear man, we're gonna walk by faith and not sight. Like these are the themes I'm hearing of your life and everything you just shared. Yeah. And I love that so much. There's so much. So one question, I feel like we could go on and on, and we might have to do a part two because there's so many things I want to touch on. But as we wrap up, there's a question I ask, and it's a little different every week to my guests. Okay. So Jesus rolls into town. He says, I am starving. Let's go get some breakfast. Where do you take him?
SPEAKER_00That's really tricky because both of us aren't like crazy breakfast people. I know me neither. Maybe because we're dairy-free, gluten-free, like it's hard. I mean eggs because of use.
SPEAKER_01I know. You cleared your breakouts. Where do we take them? Yes. It helps my clients with their eggs. Clear my sinuses and my breakouts. I know. Eggs make me have sinus problems too. Yeah. Okay. Anyways. Okay, break. We can change it to lunch. Oh, I know. I know. What were you gonna say? I it's not around here. Okay, where is it? Sally Lou's and St. Lucifysbell. Oh. I love Sally Lou's. Okay, I love it. I can get a smoothie. He can do the eggs, he can do all the things. I love it. I love everything about this place.
SPEAKER_03It's so wholesome. What do you think he would order? Like eggs benedicts, pancakes. Oh, he has so much meaningful. He's not worried about money or dietary restrictions. I know.
SPEAKER_01He doesn't worry perfect. Yeah. He looks like so much peace. He has a perfect liver. He can do whatever he wants. He has not tried to outskincare his piece. No, his skin is literally perfect. Glowing. Honestly, yeah. Yeah. Dang. I could see him getting like a like a good breakfast with like the good sourdough toast that's like made locally. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And eggs, and then the biggest. But then he also gets like a side of pancakes. Yeah, yeah. Because he's fun.
SPEAKER_03I bet he drinks coffee. I mean, he drinks coffee. Oh, he drinks coffee. I have to believe in a coffee personality. I have to believe Jesus drinks coffee. I think he drinks coffee. Because I'm like, I just want to drink coffee with him. Yeah. He might get decaf.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Because he's going to be like perfect.
SPEAKER_01He's always regulated.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00What would you say, Shannon? I don't. My first thought came to mind was the pocket. Because it was somewhere that was like gluten-free gluten. Just like, you know, like family-owned, just local, small business.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they have the best gluten-free blueberry.
SPEAKER_00I want them right now.
SPEAKER_01With ricotta cheese on top. That was the first one I thought of.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I love that. It's funny when I asked the question, that's what I thought of because you guys took me there. And I was like, oh, they love that place. Yeah. They would take Jesus there for sure in a heartbeat.
SPEAKER_01If we can't do a road trip too slow, we're doing that.
SPEAKER_00I love it. How much time do we have with him?
SPEAKER_01If I could squeeze in a road trip, would you do it? Yeah. I know. That'd be so amazing. Wow. Wow, good. You're sharp. You're good. Yes. I couldn't even think of anything.
SPEAKER_03Well, I love you guys so much. Everyone, if you're listening, I will put in all the episode info how to book facials with them, how to book lymphatics with them. So sweet. All the things. And I'll have you guys send me links to books you recommend, and we'll put that in the episode info too. Because I feel like we touched on so much that I think people are going to want to learn more. Yeah. And so thank you guys so much!
SPEAKER_01So fun. So much. I love you.
