Learn how to be very natural while speaking in English
How is your day going? As usual, nothing special. It was like any other day.
SPEAKER_00Same old, same old, is it? Same old, same old. Right, right. Okay. How are your classes going with English Yari? All good?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00And your personal classes also are going good?
SPEAKER_01Yes. Everything is going on nicely. And these days I'm sailing smoothly. Yes. Good, good. Any new year resolution as such? Okay, that's a tricky one. Resolution, I uh do believe in uh certain things, but I don't think so. Resolutions work for me actually. We make a lot of resolutions and we break easily, right? Yes, that is true.
SPEAKER_00Yes, maybe for a month we'll take that with us, but after that it goes away.
SPEAKER_01It's fascinating to discuss uh uh resolutions and all, but uh I don't have a specific resolution. Uh they say it's all about I'll be taking care of my health, and uh that's it. I will try to become more patient, more kind and empathetic. That's that's what I can I will try. I can't say that I'm going to um do it or I'm going to fulfill it by the end of the year. I don't know, but yes, I'll keep trying. You'll try. Yes, I'll definitely try. That's and what about you? Do you believe in resolutions?
SPEAKER_00To an extent, yes, but I don't know if I've I I don't I don't remember me going through it all over the year. Okay, but some things, yeah. I think there are certain things that I have done, especially when it comes to learning English. I have had that resolution throughout to make me or make myself a better person when terms of English. That's it, nothing else. I I do only things which I'm able to do, right? I only take resolutions which I'm able to do. That is, yeah. If it's impossible, then I don't think there's a point in taking that up. Of course. Um I've also taken a resolution to reduce eating sugar, which I started from last month itself, which I've been doing quite a few months back. But yeah, I want to make it very reduce it, probably yes.
SPEAKER_01These things sound uh quite real and practical because as I mentioned, that I'll be taking care of my health, so it's the need of the hour. Yes, I have to. I have to. So yes, uh, I would focus on um maybe reducing my screen time. I use my phone a lot, so I'll try not to use it. Though I don't uh uh use it unnecessarily, it's all about my work. I will try not to use it, not to use it, yes. Yes, I'll find uh I'm trying, I'll try to detox myself. There is a term social detox or something. This this it's quite digital detox, digital detox, yeah, yes. So I'll try to uh go for it. Uh I guess new year comes with different vibe, but uh dates change or months change. This year at least uh treats everyone uh kindly, I would say. Yes, yes, very true. So, what did you do for new year yesterday? Uh I tell you, yesterday when I woke up, uh we got to know that uh we are running out of we were running out of uh water supply, and Cherry on the cake was that there was a power outage. Oh my god, what a good day, good way to start a new year, right? Yes, right. So uh I guess uh uh power was restored by 12 or 12:30, and uh then uh water supply was also restored, and I guess my I I started my day actually after 12:30 or one. So this is you manage breakfast. Uh yes, somehow we uh I managed uh breakfast, uh, but I tried uh to keep my cool, I didn't panic at all. Okay, uh I didn't uh uh behave in that cranky manner. Oh going to the very first year, uh first day of the year, and this is I how would I manage? I was just uh enjoying calm and composed. Yes, so yes, this that is uh how I celebrated. And what about you? Do you uh uh are you a kind of party person?
SPEAKER_00Not much, very rare, very rare that I do that. So my new year was like I went to the church early in the morning itself. I had a mass at uh 7 7:30. So I went to the church, we got some cake from the church uh in regards to the new year. I think after I came back, we had a very late breakfast, so I was not hungry much during the lunchtime. I slept and slept and slept. I took a day off yesterday and I just kept sleeping like anything. Yeah, I was not able to even open my eyes for lunch, so yeah, you would have understood how much I slept. I actually overslept yesterday.
SPEAKER_01Lovely, lovely, but then yeah.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes you need a break from that, you need to sleep a lot, right? I I just I thought of watching something, but later in the night I watched something, but then yeah, mostly I was sleeping yesterday.
SPEAKER_01Nice, okay. So um, are you an early bird or a night out?
SPEAKER_00That depends. So, early bird in the sense, if I have to go to the gym, I wake up early in the morning. But if I want to sleep off, I can't go beyond 10 o'clock. Max is nine, not beyond that. Yeah, so that's my calculation of getting up early in the morning. If if it's a weekend, Sundays I have to go to church, so I have to wake up by 7, 7:30-ish. But if it's a Saturday, sometimes I take class. If I'm taking class, it'll be it'll be starting by 9 9 o'clock in the morning. Otherwise, yeah, I sleep off. As I said, maximum 10, not more than that. Nice.
SPEAKER_01What about you? I have a very different calculation. Uh, if I I tell you, if I know that uh uh it's a day off um of my husband or my son, I can sleep uh in tomorrow. So you would be amazed that that very day I would be waking up maybe at 5 and 5:30. I feel so fresh. Yes, I try to sleep, but I can't. So I feel very energetic. Very energetic. So yes, I don't know. I am I am a bit complicated person in terms of so on the regular days you find it difficult to get up at five. Uh yes, when it is my son's school, then I don't have any option, then I have to get up at 5. Uh, but these days is winter vacation is going on, so uh usually I wake up uh between 6:30 or 7. Oh, yes, yes, because uh I believe I can't sleep uh when when it's seven, so I feel guilty. Oh my goodness, it's seven. I have to prepare breakfast and lunch for my husband, so I need some time, some extra time. Uh so that's how I have to manage. I have to wake up between 6:30 or 7. Sometimes I wake up at 6 also. Okay, so you manage, you don't go beyond 7. No, no, no, no. I can't, I don't know, but I I can't afford it, or and I don't feel like going beyond. I I feel so fresh after 7, and all those chores they keep on taking that. Okay, I have to do this, I have to do that. You just want to finish it off, yes, yes. So sometimes this thing bothers me. I tell my husband that I want to sleep in, I want to sleep till 8, 8:30, 9, and even 9:30 on Sundays. So he's like, uh uh, please um adapt this habit so that I can also sleep. So you he also wakes up along with you? Ah no, no, no, but uh I I don't trouble him on Sundays, and uh on regular days he has to wake up by 7:30. Office, yes, for for his office. Uh but yes, when I wake up, so naturally I uh start doing some um you know things, some chores, and uh then I play uh bhajans on Alexa. So of course they feel both of them, they feel like okay, now uh mama is giving us that alarm that okay that allergy trouble them, huh? I don't trouble them much, I let them enjoy their sleep. Yes, okay, understood. And what time do you hit the sack? Uh these days um I'm getting I'm quite late uh for this. Uh I mean for hitting the sack these days uh by 11. I don't know how. Yes, it's very late. Otherwise, I make sure by 10 I'm off to bed. Yes. Off to bed. Phones, the biggest distraction in our lives, right? Sometimes I edit my content. My husband enjoys watching reels, and um, I keep I am busy with my uh content. Most of the time I am editing my content, that's why I edit my content, uh, those videos. That's how, or that is a reason I uh get late uh for hitting the stack, huh? But uh usually I make sure that by 10, 10:30. I keep my phones both my phones away, and then I try to uh sleep.
SPEAKER_00It's it's always good that way, because even I nowadays I am also trying to do that by 10 o'clock. I make sure that I go to bed. But yeah, still I still use mobile phones at night. It is very hard to restrict ourselves from that, right? But I try my maximum to go to bed uh early at the earliest, if possible, because I need eight hours sleep, otherwise, I'll be very cranky the next day. Actually, I'll be very moved out, right?
SPEAKER_01Uh also, but um, in my case, I don't uh kill my time by watching uh reels or uh any other videos. Uh it's all about my own videos, editing part, sometimes uh uh content uh creating this search for something uh exactly yes, something productive, productive, yes, those ideas because we need to get a lot of take a lot of ideas from YouTube. Yes, so that's sometimes I uh watch videos of English Yari with my known ones, as uh I watch uh Sunita and your videos. Uh I mean I never miss your uh conversation if I just see you both on screen. So I because I get a lot of vocabulary, I get a lot of uh things, sentence structures and all. Sometimes um I use those structures in my mind. Is it yes? That is great.
SPEAKER_00Sunita is actually a very good person to talk with, you know. You can use an advanced level of language with her because we are pretty sure that she can understand that. Even if she doesn't understand, she'll prick on that and then she'll continue with it. So it's very interesting to talk with her. She would have some of the other questions up, which I'll be able to answer, or I will have some questions which I'll be very curious about her. So it goes on like that. I I've heard compliments related to her videos only, where I am also a part of it, where learners come and say, I've watched this, I've watched that, I've watched Sunita Manajadia. So I bec I also become very happy that they are watching something about me and they are coming because of that motivation. So it makes me happy also to a certain extent. Right. Yes, okay. So I think today's topic is pretty interesting since we've already gone away with 13 minutes. Let's look on to some speaking practice questions, I feel. Okay, right. The topic is job satisfaction. Okay, so on a scale of one to ten, how satisfied are you with your current needn't be job with whatever you're doing?
SPEAKER_01Okay, so I think I work from home, so I would I would scale it nine out of ten. Okay, you're satisfied. Yes, satisfied. I am my own boss, I don't have to follow any instructions or restrictions, right? And I am free to uh decide and share experiment, huh? Experiment with my uh creativity, with my teaching. So, yes, okay, so you're satisfied.
SPEAKER_00So, did you work in a corporate setup or do you work under somebody before?
SPEAKER_01Uh I worked as a teacher. Teacher, okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So working as a teacher also comes with a lot of other things, not only responsibilities, but also you carry a lot of weight on your back, right? Yes, exactly. So if that is the case, you would have had an upper supervision in your what qualities do you believe would make a good manager in that case? For example, if it was a teacher, I think it would be a superior uh coordinator, right? So, what do you think? Did you have if you felt like you had certain qualities inside your mind, did that align with the manager that you had, or what?
SPEAKER_01Um I can't say completely, but yes, uh, in my point of view, that coordinator or uh any uh if you have that power or position, first of all, you need to be patient enough, okay, and uh a good listener, yes, right, and uh you need to be empathetic enough because what this is something we miss, right? So sometimes we just try to milk the situation if we have that uh power and position, right? Yes, yes, yes, you need to understand other person's point of view, also. Yes, yes, so some superiority is fine, right? Because you are given that position. That is fine, and that is needed also, yes, but there should be uh there should be a balance, right? Yes, exactly that people can come to you and they can share their uh problems or their uh maybe if they have certain create creative ideas, so you should have that uh you know vibe or that uh uh positive uh vibe or energy that people can come to you and they can share their problems, so yes, you need to be patient, good listener, and empathetic enough, an approachable person, approachable, of course.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes, totally understandable. What challenges have you encountered in your job or course that taught you taught you patience?
SPEAKER_01Um, I guess uh taught me patience as a teacher when you deal with uh children, okay, the very first quality you need is uh that patience. And I'm a mother, so I think I have that patience level because it's been a long time uh since I last worked uh in a school or under someone, so it's all about nowadays you need to keep uh sometimes to some extent you need to keep your self-respect away if you are working under someone, right? Which grade did you teach? Uh primary, junior wings both. Okay, fine. Yes, yes, continue. Yes, so yes, uh, sometimes you need to compromise your ethics also. Okay, right, right. You need to be a part of that rat race or that crowd where uh I mean everyone is a yes man. Uh so yes, these were challenges, but when it comes to my self-respect or certain things, uh my ex um that creativity in teaching, I I think I'm uh I was not suitable. That's that's why I left my job and I started my yon things because uh I joined schools to teach, right? Not in that conventional method, yes, right? But I guess nowadays the schools are everything apart from teaching. You have to be on social media, right? You need to prepare for a lot of events, everything exactly, exactly. So I uh I my major focus was on in teaching actually. I I wanted to experiment with my teaching because English is my major subject, so I wanted to teach my students real life English, okay, how to use this uh uh language in your real life uh situations, but I didn't get that chance there, and I was supposed to do a lot of other things, a lot of uh uh this day, that day celebration and all. Yeah, you know, oh my god, I went through that a lot. Even sports day was a big pain on the uh it was too much, uh yes, and most of the times Viris uh handle our classes, we are nowhere. So these uh I these things I I could not align uh with these uh things, so I just uh uh say said goodbye to my job, and now I am happy enough. Yes, I am happy enough because I am doing uh all the things the way I want, and at least I am happy and content.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I think that is what matters more than anything else, right? Okay, great. You spoke really well on that. I understood about it. I I was able to relate to it, resonate with it, right? Okay, so what do you think are the most important factors for staying satisfied and productive in a long-term career?
SPEAKER_01Okay, you need to be uh authentic enough first of all, right? Be honest, not to anyone, but to yourself. If you are true to yourself, if you are honest to yourself, I guess uh you can achieve anything in your life, right? Very true, and uh run your own race, don't fall for any kind of uh uh things, uh, don't get into negative competition and all, right? And uh don't let other, I would say, live rent-free in your mind, in your head. Because these things affect uh in a long term, uh long term, yes, very much, right? So, yes, uh, if you are true to yourself and if you know if you're ethically right, morally correct, you can win your battles and no one uh can question you, right? So, yes, honesty, conscientiousness, you need to be conscientious enough, right? And um that's it, very true.
SPEAKER_00I totally resonate with that. So, do you feel that sometimes it becomes essential to sacrifice job satisfaction for better financial rewards? That's what most of the people are doing these days, yes, most of the people, right? They're not satisfied with their job, they're just working because of the salary that they get. Yes, right, yes, very true.
SPEAKER_01Because uh, we are living in this era of materialism, people uh go into materialistic stuff, right? Uh, so that's how they want to um, you know, uh they want to have all the luxury in life, and that's why they have to come compromise with they compromise their mental health on that mental health, yes, mental health and um ethical values also.
SPEAKER_00I feel to an extent family pressure is also on them, right? That also becomes an issue, yeah, yes. So uh, what are some common reasons why individuals might take on a second job or engage in moonlighting activities?
SPEAKER_01Because again, uh we talk about materialistic stuff, so people uh are people uh want to keep up with the jaunuses. This is uh our latest idiom I learned and I want to use it, right? They want to maintain that status in society, okay?
SPEAKER_00That decorum, yes.
SPEAKER_01If you have a 2bhk now, your friend has a 3b HK. You want that 3 BHK, you'll want to upgrade yourself outside, right? You have um uh swift desire or swift, but you want maybe there are a lot of cars. I'm not yeah, right, you want that maybe a luxurious car, yes, right? So that is the reason they more than the purpose, it's more like a want, want more than a necessity, exactly, exactly. So here comes this realization that uh we are living this life for ourselves, not for people. Okay, when you have this realization, uh, I guess uh uh your life becomes easy because I I believe in uh decluttering and minimalism, right? And when it comes to decluttering, it's not about this stuff I'm talking about. Uh we need to declutter our mind also, exactly because social pressure, oh my god, it's it's a big deal in today's lives, right? Brands, we run behind brands, we want to uh we are sketchers, editors, and Gucci, I don't know. I sometimes I I I really it it uh troubles me that how people spend a lot of money just for those brands, those watches, those shoes, or maybe bags. So I would be happy that if I uh would I have a simple bag, but I should have money in that bag. Exactly rather than taking uh an expensive bag, right? Exactly, exactly. Very that's my point of view. So, yes, it's all about that social pressure uh in terms of lot.
SPEAKER_00And I think we can't completely blame them for you know making to upgrade yourself onto that because human is something which doesn't get satisfied, their wants and needs just keeps going on and on and on.
SPEAKER_01Yes, see, if you if you uh have the capacity, right? If you have that much income, go for that, but go stretch yourself, okay? Because in this way you are not enjoying whatever you have, and uh then comes uh why uh I mean then there are clashes between uh husband and wise, right? So we need to enjoy family life after all, right? So if you can afford easily go for that, but don't uh you know, don't uh feel uh belittle or don't feel that uh make don't make it a status symbol. Yes, all right, do what you can, right?
SPEAKER_00Not overuse it or do it in any way, exactly. Yes, exactly. Okay, so I think that's for the class today. I have a small feedback for you. Uh you're a very cheerful and expressive person. Okay, one is that your use, your usage of words, your vocabulary is fantastic. It is actually mesmerizing because I also learnt a lot of new words from you. So it's actually something very great that you have. Your language is going good, you're communicating rare well. Your answers are actually very meaningful answers, which you say, and it is very relatable also, practical answers. One thing that I notice is that sometimes you have filler sounds and words. Okay, okay. It is a natural thing, it is not something that happens out of ordinary. But maybe since you're going in a good way, you have language, you your fluency is getting interrupted because of this.
unknownOkay, okay.
SPEAKER_00So that can be made better. And it can happen in the long run also. Okay. But if you look onto it right now, I think you can make it better. Definitely, I'll take care of it. Yes. So thank you so much. I hope you have a wonderful year ahead. Take care. Have a good weekend.
SPEAKER_01Yes, thank you, and I wish you the same. Bye bye. I see you soon.
