it was never about having enough

We often overthink our ability to accomplish something based on what we perceive isn't enough, not enough experience, not enough resources, not enough worthiness. But that mindset causes delay. It keeps us in a low place when God has more for us.

In this episode, I'm walking through the story of the widow woman in 2 Kings 4:1-7, who was in crisis and didn't realize the value of what she already had until she was asked a simple question: "What is in your house?" We'll also look at the five loaves and two fish, the picture of vessels and oil, and why imposter syndrome so often talks us out of taking the first step.

Hi friends, welcome back to What If It All Works Out, Conversations for the Overthinker Turned Overcomer. I am your host, Daviana. If you're new here, welcome. It's good to see you guys. And if you're returning, I'm happy to see you again. And I just want to note that last week we celebrated over 100 downloads on Apple, and we had about 150 or more downloads on Spotify. So that is something worth celebrating. Um, when we launched season two last week on the 8th, I've only had our episodes on Apple for about a week. So two days after launching episode one of season two, we had about 100 or more downloads on Apple. So that is something that I am so excited to um experience. And I can only give God the credit. I can give you guys the credit for tuning in and supporting me. I can recognize that this journey has not been easy at all, but it has been rewarding. And I am just committed to continuously showing up because I know that the more I show up is the more I overcome. And I was thinking about like when I started this journey, it took me a minute to even execute because I didn't think I possessed the necessary tools, the wisdom, the equipment, the confidence to even do such a thing like this. And now I'm seeing the impact that it's making, not only on myself and teaching me how to grow, but on the people that tune in and how it has impacted Charles well. So I think like, what if I never did it? Like, what if I kept playing small? What if I didn't have revelation of the things that I possess and allow God to handle the rest, you know? And that's something that I want to talk to us about today. And it's something that we may or may not realize. And it's our ability to overthink that we're unable to accomplish a thing based on what we perceive is not enough or worthy. We may not think we have enough experience, enough resources, enough skill, et cetera, to see breakthrough or to see success in an area. And here's the thing about that mindset: it doesn't just keep us small, it hinders us from moving forward, it hinders us from moving upward, it causes delay, it prevents breakthrough, and it keeps us in a little place when God has way much more for us than that. So today I want to walk us through a story. It's an old one, but it's a good one that I always refer back to because I believe that it shows us how to overcome. We overcome by the renewing of our minds. It takes revelation of understanding what it is that we have, having the courage to act, and have faith in God that He will bring increase through our obedience. And the point of it all is for us to understand that what we may be undermining could be the very thing that God uses to bring us breakthrough. And that story comes from the widow in 2 Kings. We're gonna do a quick little Bible study. I have my handy dandy Bible. I actually need a new one. Please don't make fun of my Bible, y'all. Like this Bible has been around for years and years, and I just haven't bought a new one, but she stays in the house because I can't take her outside. She embarrasses me. But we're gonna go to 2 Kings chapter 4, verse 1 through 7. I'm gonna read it very quickly for us to just have the backstory. It says, Now the wife of a member of the company of prophets cried to Elisha, Your servant, my husband, is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. But a creditor has come to take my two children as slaves. Elisha said to her, What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house? She answered, Your servant has nothing but a jar of oil. He said, Go outside, borrow vessels from all of your neighbors, empty vessels, and not just a few. Then go in and shut the door behind you and your children, and start pouring into all the vessels. When each is full, set it aside. So she left him and shut the door behind her and kept her children. They kept bringing vessels to her, and she kept pouring. When the vessels were full, she said to her son, Bring me another vessel. But he said to her, There are no more. Then the oil stopped flowing. She came and told the man of God, and he said, Go sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your children can live on the rest. So that story says a lot. We see that this woman is in a tough spot. She is in need of a miracle, right? And it doesn't look like she has an obvious way out. So she went to the person that she felt could help her. And that was a man of God. That was a prophet. And he asked her one question, which is our main point of this episode. What is in your house? She responded with, I have nothing except a jar of oil, right? She didn't perceive what she had to be much. She just thought it was just a jar of oil. Not much. She can't do anything with that. But that it was the very thing God used to bring her breakthrough, to bring her overflow. And what I believe is beautiful here is that it took revelation of what she had and allowing God to move through it to bring her breakthrough. She didn't fully thank you, Lord. Oh. She didn't fully perceive what she was carrying until she began pouring it out as she was instructed. And that just hit me like a ton of rags right there because a lot of us don't fully perceive what it is that's within us until God tells us to do something and we act on obedience and begin pouring and seeing the breakthrough that comes from that, not only for ourselves, but how it impacts other people. Until you are obedient to the instructions of the Lord, you may not fully be aware of what it is that you possess. You may have to go to God first to get revelation of what it is that you have because He can bring revelation to the small things that you can perceive it to be and make it bigger and open your eyes to how big it is. So my question to you is what is it that you have in your house? What is it that you possess, my friend, that you have been playing so small on, that you have perceived to be just a little bit, not enough, not worthy, not ready, that has been preventing you from breakthrough, that has been preventing you from impacting people in a better way. It could be your gifts, your talent, your skill that you may not think is as valuable and been tucking it away for the longest. Because it's so familiar to you, it may not seem like anything. You may have a small beginning, just a small amount, just a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Don't despise small beginnings. Like I told y'all in the previous episode, don't despise small beginnings either. And what I want you to know is that you are already equipped with what it is you need to do to act on the calling that is specific to your life. If we go to the Bible in Psalms 139, 13, it says, For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are beautiful. I know that full well. It tells me that I'm made on purpose with purpose by the one who created all the things in the earth. So why will he create me with any shortcomings? Is it going to take a seed and is the seed going to take time to grow? Yes. But within me, do I have what I need to begin? Absolutely. So what's in your house or what you possess is not an accident. And if we put it in another story, we can think about Jesus. We can think about the five loaves and the two fish. We know that the disciples were assigned to feed thousands of people, and they only had five loaves of bread and two fish. What did Jesus do? He told them to feed them, right? Jesus didn't feed them himself. He told the disciples to feed them what they had. Jesus blessed it and told them to go and start serving the people. And what happened from that? Everyone was fed, and they even had 12 baskets full of bread left over from that. And that told me that if you're obedient to what the Lord instructs you to do, he brings increase. All you have to do is act. What seemed small to these disciples, what seemed like not enough, God increased it. But they had to follow his instruction. And God may be telling us to do some things. And we may not seem like it's time. We may not seem like we're ready. We may not seem like we're equipped, but if you act on it, he can bless it and bring increase. The disciples perceived what they had to be inadequate enough to feed the people. Jesus instructed them to do something, to feed them. He then blessed the bread and told them to go and serve. As they were serving, they never ran out. He blessed what they had, he then multiplied it, and they had more than what they needed after. I bring this up because our minds will literally tell us lies. If you go back to a couple episodes about the subconscious mind, I talk about how our minds prevent us from moving forward to keep us safe and where we are comfortably, right? It tells us that staying where we are, playing is safe, not stretching is the safer option. But it's important, friends, that we do the work to override that part, the part that wants to keep us in this box. It's a part in our minds that blinds us to the truth that wants to prevent us from seeing that we are already equipped with what we need. And going back to the widow woman, it's so many layers to that story, right? Because God worked a miracle, but also in that we talk about oil, we talk about vessels. If you are a student of the word, you understand that oil represents anointing. And vessels can represent people. While she had oil in her home, she had no revelation of how impactful that oil was. The oil can represent an anointing. We need real revelation of the oil we possess or the anointing on our lives. She has some oil in her house that she didn't understand the power of, right? But we also may possess oil, an anointing on our lives that we may not understand is powerful. And the vessels, we're the vessels. We are instructed to pour out our anointing as vessels on the people. And we have to think, are we holding something that is meant to be poured out? Do we have an anointing on our lives that we as vessels are preventing others from experiencing that'll help them? Think about how many people in this world you could help if you simply poured out your anointing onto them. If you are a part of the kingdom of God, there is an anointing on your life that is not only meant for you to contain, it's for you to pour out onto others. And then with that, there's also another layer to that to think about how oil is even produced. Oil goes through a process of shaking, beating, and pressing. Like I can't get too deep into oil production and the process of an anointing, but it does take a process of wilderness. It takes a process of going through some things before you're able to even have revelation of the anointing that is on your life. But we can study that in a different episode. But the basis is before the oil runs, before the anointing on your life can even be poured out, there is a process of shaking, there is a process of beating and pressing that someone goes through first. And I want to be honest as well that whether you have a vision on your life or not, we can sometimes overthink the execution of a thing. We then doubt if we have enough, if we possess the right skill, if we have the right resources, if we can continue to keep going. And then that's when that imposter syndrome sticks in and we rescind from even moving forward and never do anything. Just like a woman, it sometimes takes a crisis for what we possess within us to be revealed. And that's not necessarily a punishment, but that's sometimes how revelation comes. Um, you probably got to go through through some things to even gain wisdom. You may have to seek some help before you have revelation. And that's why it matters who you surround yourself with. Surround yourself with people who are prayerful, who are discerning, who are wise, that can identify those things within you that are needed to be pulled out, that can hear the word from God to help you move forward with whatever gifts and talents that you have or whatever skill and dreams that you want to act on and encourage you to do it. I don't believe we're all in this to figure it out alone either. The woman had help. The disciples had help from God, you know? And I want to bring this all back to my own journey with this podcast because I'm living in it right now. I started with all that I had. My friends brought me a camera a couple years ago. I'm using my lighting from my makeup equipment. I have this mic that I bought years ago when God first put it on my heart to start a podcast that I never started until now because I didn't think that I had what I needed. I didn't think I was equipped enough. I didn't think it was I was worth telling anybody anything, you know? But what it took was instruction from the Holy Spirit. It took me going through some things to have revelation of what was inside of me and then acting on that with the faith that God will continue to carry me through. Do I have a vision of what this is going to look like two months from now, five years from now? Absolutely not. But I know what I'm doing is going to be impactful because of the results that I've been getting, because of the feedback that I've been getting. And I can only give God the glory for that because what I deemed to be small or unworthy, God used my testimony to help others. And I believe that he's going to continue to do that. Because if he could help the woman that was in debt by pouring oil in jars, if he can feed 5,000 plus people with five loaves and two fish, if he could perform miracles for other people in this world in real time today, why not me if I'm if I'm also being obedient? Why not you if you are also being obedient? So, yes, I started small. Um, I'm just not putting my face on camera. First episode, I'm sorry, first season, y'all ain't see my face, but it takes some instruction, it takes some courage to act, and I'm working with what I have, and I believe that God will bring the increase. I want y'all to understand that it takes courage, it takes surrender, and a willingness to allow God to move with what you already have been given. And to tie it back to the widow woman, she said, I have nothing but oil, which means I have nothing but my anointing. And she's saying, I have nothing but, but God says, You have everything, because I can use that. So I'm gonna ask you again what I've also asked myself, what if you took the first step with what you had and surrendered the rest to God? What if it all works out? And with that, that goes into our journal prompt that I want to leave you guys with. What is in your house? What is a jar of oil that you possess that you've been sitting on? What is a thing that you've been overlooking and undervaluing? And what is one small step that you can take to begin pouring it out? As I'm recording this episode, God is revealing to me the why behind the things that I've gone through over these past couple years because it forms a testimony, it gives me wisdom, it brings growth, it allows me to overcome, to even be able to share with y'all. That is my oil, that is the anointing on my life, to be able to boldly and um courageously share the things that is here. When I was at the end of myself, is where God began. When I was empty, God is kind of that is when God stepped in to fill me up. When I thought I had nothing, God revealed my anointing. God revealed what is inside of me, my gifts and my talents. And that is what brought me breakthrough. Another testimony that God just brought back to my attention was back in 2020 when I started doing makeup. I was laid off for my first big girl job out of college. It was during the pandemic, and I had nothing but my skill, my craft of doing makeup, right? And I began doing makeup for like my friends and family. I wasn't charging them anything, it was just a hobby. And then God told me to start the Instagram page, start taking clients outside of just my inner circle. And to this day, I'm still doing makeup. I'm recording this podcast episode using the lighting equipment that I use for my clients. I am getting booked for weddings on a monthly basis, and I am just so grateful to God that what I thought was just a small skill. I didn't think that I was gonna be a makeup artist. I didn't think that I was gonna be taking clients. I didn't think that I would have a celebrity client or doing makeup overseas. Like, it didn't look that way when I first started doing makeup. I didn't understand why God wanted me to take it serious, but I obeyed the instructions of his word, and it brought me increase. Going through what I've been through over the past couple of years brought me to this point of a podcast. So I just want you all to know that starting small is okay. Think to yourself about what it is that you carry, what it is that you have been sitting on that you haven't had the courage to act on because you are afraid of being seen trying, you are um insecure about where you stand today, but it's okay. If God appoints you, he anoints you. So that's all I'm gonna say with that. Who is man when God is for you? Okay. That's what I'm telling myself week after week. Um, so I'm gonna just leave it there.
