Welcome back to podcast number two of the DL3 season. We have a very special guest today from Team Woe. We have PC North, aka Phil. Welcome to the pod. Thank you very much, Jamie. Appreciate you uh having me on. Phil, give us some background. We know you're friends with Will. He had to step aside for a little bit this year and needed some help with the team. How do you get involved with this league?
SPEAKER_00Well, Will has uh I know Will has a number of teams, and Will and I go back maybe 25 years, and he like I said, he has a number of teams, needed a little bit of help maintaining the teams. I feel like there still is a partnership here. And um he asked if I could pick up pick up the mantle for one of his teams, and uh I wasn't doing any dynasty leagues and thought absolutely I would love to help Will out, love to be part of a dynasty league, and so I stepped in.
SPEAKER_01How how old are you? You said you've known him for 25 years. How old are you, Phil? I'm 47. You're 47. Okay, did you guys uh how did you meet? Uh we met in New York, we worked together. Awesome, awesome. Did you ever think you would be podcasting about a random fantasy football league?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Love that. How long have you been playing fantasy football for? Since 1991. Love it. So a very long, long time. I remember, I remember in the early 90s, I'm a little younger than you, I'm 39, and one hour a week on our local radio station, KBR, in the Bay Area here in San Francisco. There was a guy named Dave Del Grande, and he would talk about fantasies football for one week every year or every week during the season. And I thought this is the greatest thing ever. This is amazing. You know, there was nothing online about it. Um where how'd you get involved?
SPEAKER_00Well, so uh one one of my friends, and actually you you know I'm Will, the other Will. Uh we we've known each other longer than uh you know Will and I, the Will that I share a team with. And so you're so Will Creeley and you have known each other longer. Yeah, longer, yeah. I've known him since um you know pre-teen. Amazing. And he picked up a book about fantasy football at the bookstore.
SPEAKER_01Um, you know, and uh back back then, oh you had the magazines, right? And that was sort of all there was. Well, it was a it was a book.
SPEAKER_00It was a I think it was a book on I think him or one of our friends still has the book. Amazing. It was like a book that somebody wrote about fantasy football.
SPEAKER_01Uh so not just a magazine. And that was it, and he fell in love.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and so you know, someone rang my doorbell and said, Hey man, we're about to draft uh in Will Creeley's garage. Uh are you in? I said yes, and uh we we have our 35th anniversary this year. Do you see do you guys still do the draft in person? Some of the drafts we do in person, a lot of the people still get together. We have a few people who are on the west coast, um, people scattered throughout the east coast, and we've had people throughout the years draft anywhere from you know the Canadian Rockies to um you know uh the Great Wall of China.
SPEAKER_01That's it it's such a good way. I was talking about this with a friend yesterday. Uh, you know, males don't do a good job of bonding and staying together, and I think it's a really nice way to stay together with a group of friends over many, many years. So I love love to hear that. Phil, where'd you guys grow up? Buffalo, New York. Ah, so my uh my mother uh went to high school in Buffalo. She grew up out in uh a little town called Castile, which is near. Have you heard of Letchworth State Park? Oh, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh the biggest gorge east of the Mississippi.
SPEAKER_01Yes, sir. So that's my mom's town right there, right there in Perry, New York, uh, Castile. That's exactly right. And uh my mom went to Buffalo Seminary in Buffalo. Yeah, okay. So um, you know, we'll get to your Bill's fandom a little bit here. Uh are you still in are you still in the Buffalo area?
SPEAKER_00Uh I am not in the Buffalo area. And I I actually I took my SATs at Both Sem.
SPEAKER_01Amazing. Amazing.
SPEAKER_00So I've been there and I saw some plays there, right? I saw I saw some productions uh of uh so yeah, I'm familiar. I grew up not too far away, a couple miles away from there. Uh I'm not in the Buffalo area. I live uh near Hartford, Connecticut.
SPEAKER_01Okay, all right. Um tell us about week one. You had sent out some Laporta offers, you put them up for auction. That next morning, Monday morning, you texted me that you were driving home from the Buffalo game. Uh note to the league uh PC North is very responsive to trade offers. Get him in, he'll respond. Uh he's very active, which is great from a new guy. But you text me that you were riding home from the Buffalo game. For those who have already forgotten, Buffalo versus Baltimore, that Sunday night football game, week one was epic. Tell us about your experience. At the game? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was you know, it's nice uh to go to the game, beautiful night. Uh, we went, um, you know, it's uh good atmosphere, great tailgate.
SPEAKER_01Um, I I know are you are you part of the Bills Mafia? Do you are you jumping on tables?
SPEAKER_00No, I'm not jumping on tables.
SPEAKER_01You've you've you're you're too old for that, you're too mature.
SPEAKER_00No, I don't know that I'm too mature, but um, you know, I uh I've been a Bills fan for as long as I can remember. And a lot of the the the wild stuff. Oh no, I actually that's not true. There was plenty of wild stuff that I saw as like uh as a kid in the parking lot. Um you know, people not making it into the game, right? Being carried into their trailers to uh you know, to sleep off the the game. But um yeah, the jumping through table stuff, that's a that's a result of the Bills just not, I think, not being good for a very long time. Or being like very average and people making their own fun, right? So um would it have still gotten to that point? Uh maybe. I mean the the genesis of the mafia was really drought related, where you know Stevie Johnson drops a football in the end zone. Uh I was in a bar in Chicago for that. Uh the game was running late, filling up with Bears fans to watch their four o'clock game. And um, you know, I jump off my stool, throw my hands in the air, I'm screaming, only to realize that the ball's laying laying on the ground. Um, and then so you know, after that people talk about it online, and I think you know that's when Bill's fans started coming out to support their guy. And so there's probably no mafia, right? That's when they were dubbed the mafia. There's probably no mafia without the drought. And uh, but you know, that's long after my my time, too.
SPEAKER_01So my uh my grandfather was a longtime Bill season ticket holder. And I actually went to um I went to um uh see Doug Flutie when Flutie Flakes were all the rage. Yeah uh in I guess it would have been August, you know, in in training camp. And uh, you know, I just remember Bruce Smith was still on the team then and just thought he was the biggest guy in the world.
SPEAKER_00So uh another big the big doing training camp then down in Ferdonia, right?
SPEAKER_01Yes, exactly.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I used to love going down to Ferdonia as a kid for training camp. Um, you know, nice drive down, you're in the Lake Erie wine country, uh, which is you know, now that I'm older, right? I know good good wine, right? Um you know, I'm it's not gonna get the recognition, but it's good, it's a good climate for growing grapes over there. Oh, I didn't actually realize that. So uh not just for not just for all the snow, and they get a lot on that stretch.
SPEAKER_01A lot of snow. All right, let's let's jump to the league. So we'll get you involved. Oh, one uh one other note. There's another big Bills fan in this league, the commissioner, Alex Case. Uh he's San Francisco raised, but uh somehow he became a huge Bills fan. So you guys can uh commiserate together about uh about uh about the team. But this is the year. This is the year. I'm feeling good for you. Let's let's talk about your draft strategy going into a dynasty draft. You've never been never been involved in a dynasty team before. It's different, right? You got to think, okay, what are we doing season long, but what are we doing two, three years out? How did you get your mind around it? What advice was Will giving you going into the draft?
SPEAKER_00Um, well, I you know, I I picked up in the middle, like the Devontae Adams bid was already in.
SPEAKER_01All right, so that was your that was your first bid, Devontae for 12. It was not. No, Will made that bid. Uh sorry, yeah, sorry. Your team's bid. You got Devontae for 12, and the slow draft is an interesting dynamic here. Um so you had Devontae, and then where'd you go from there? Um then Will called you up and said, I need a little help.
SPEAKER_00What happened? Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Jacobs uh came up, and you know, just looking at the structure of the league. Um, you know, first thing I looked at um, you know, how many flex spots are there as a PPR? What's the point scoring system? And um I think Jacobs came up and I just like Jacobs for the format and in the situation in the situation in Green Bay. So I just thought it was a good spot to go.
SPEAKER_01And I think looking back at it, $27 for Jacobs is a great price. So at that point, you had your quarterbacks, you knew you had Caleb and CJ Stroud. You already had great drafting, Bucky Irving, A-Chain, you had a huge contract on McCaffrey.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and if I may, if I may, that's part of when thinking about Jacobs in the $53 contract on McCaffrey. Um, I thought, well, maybe I should lean into that contract. Play it as though McCaffrey is gonna play the season, right? Like I'm not drafting with injuries in mind. No. And so, you know, why don't I lean into the contract, uh, play to the strength of the team, and um, you know, see if I can get some reliable wide receivers on the back end.
SPEAKER_01Well, McCaffrey is so far so good that the Niners are feeding him 25 to 30 touches, you know, that you got a lot of Niners fans in this league, myself included. You know, before week one, he's on the injury report, and everybody's like, oh shit, here we go again. Uh, but so far, so good for McCaffrey. They they are they are feeding him. Yeah, they are feeding him. So then from there, you have Devontae, you get Jacobs, you go Fannon $2, Debo for six, you pair up Stafford and Jimmy G for combined 14, and then you get Keenan Allen for four. We made a joke on the podcast last week reviewing your team, you would have a hell of a wide receiver room three, four years ago with Keenan Allen, Debo Samuels, and Devonta Adams. Uh, but so far, so good, they are looking great to start the season.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you know, I right, and I I thought to myself, first of all, I mean, Allen, Keenan Allen is old, but really great wide receivers can play to like 34 um his historically. And I think Keenan Allen is a great, I think he's a Hall of Famer. Um, he's in the right situation, you know, situation of need. Um you know, it's a little bit discouraging for all my uh Trey Harris stock I have in like best ball and other leagues. Um, but you know, I'm happy here, right?
SPEAKER_01Um everybody, everybody take note at home. Phil is a serious fantasy football player. He's in best ball, he's been doing it for since 1991. He is looking up our scoring format before he gets involved. This guy is serious, not to be messed with. I don't know about that, but look, Keenan Allen, I think he's he's been a top 15 wide receiver uh through two weeks or through through two weeks. So that's paid off. Devonta and Stafford, you know, that offense, you know, everything's getting getting funneled through three guys, right? It's getting funneled through Puka, Devontae, and Kyron. And um, so that's looking good. And Debo, everybody was hoping he'd gonna be good in that uh Kingsbury offense, and he looks great to start the season.
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, so far so good. And and look, you know, I mean, I uh I thought Debo was undervalued really. I mean I I look at and you look at my guys, I like I look at their quarterbacks, right? And I look at their coaches and their offensive coordinators, and if I'm gonna take a chance on somebody, why wouldn't I attach a guy uh to you know Jaden Daniels in Washington? You know, it sounds good to me. And he's he looks he's and we weren't sure what we were gonna get from McLaurin.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that one that one that has hit so far for you. Um your rest of your draft filled it out with some backups Pat Bryant, Brendan Strange, Brashard Smith, Jalen Knoll. Looking at your starting lineup, Caleb Williams, CJ Stroud, Josh Jacobs, Bucky Irvin, Devontae Adams, Keenan Allen, Debo, Sam Laporta, McCaffrey, and A-Chain. You have the most points through two weeks. It's been a great start to the season. Uh second most. Do you have the second most? Maybe. I I'm not I'm not sure on that. Let me check here. You have uh you have 260, and that is uh that is the most. I'm the second most coming in with 245. Then behind us is Moondoggy, another new manager at 242, and then another new manager in fourth, JD with uh 234. So the new guys are rocking the league so far. So you get your team, and now you got to think about contracts, extending guys, putting new contracts on guys. Did you work with Will on this or did you just jump into the deep end?
SPEAKER_00I just jumped in and just, you know, I I knew I had a actually this um I had uh a few texts go back and forth with Will, you know, to make sure guys that I knew he liked and wanted to extend. Um, so we were on the same page with uh with some of that.
SPEAKER_01Um so for those at home who don't have this memorized, you extended CJ Stroud. He's $11 now. You'll have him through the 2028 season at 17. You know, I think two years ago he was the next guy. It's been a tough couple years, but cheap young quarterback, shown potential, just needs to get that offensive line figured out, and that's going to be a nice pairing. Hopefully, Caleb Williams can figure it out with Johnson, and you got your QBs covered for the next five years.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, look, I mean, Stroud is still only 23. He played a lot of last year without any of his starting wide receivers. Um, and so the question obviously is well well taught, you know, well talked about. Is it is it the wide receivers and the the lack of wide receivers last year? Is it Stroud? Plus, I'm pretty sure on my roster I have Houston uh wide receiver. So I like you know, I like the stacks, especially if you know I'm going in as an underdog some week.
SPEAKER_01You got you got you got Higgins and Noel uh on your bench waiting for them to pop.
SPEAKER_00I had Higgins coming in uh when I took over the team, and then I picked Noel just because I had Stroud.
SPEAKER_01And then you and then you threw uh through threw a contract on Noel. Um you also extended A-Chain uh three years. He's six dollars now, he'll be nine dollars in 2028. Yeah, that that's a draft pick that uh that has smashed, another draft pick that smashes Rasheed Rice. You extended him another three years, four dollars this year, seven dollars in 2028. Um, some really nice extensions there. So you'll have Stroud, A-Chain, and Rice for a combined $33 in 2028, which is a nice base to set up your team. Unfortunately for you, it's not PPR because you would have gotten a thousand points last night for A-Chain catching the ball behind the line of scrimmage and immediately getting tackled. But that's that's not here or there.
SPEAKER_00I know he's a touchdown maker, though. So talking this is a touchdown league.
SPEAKER_01So talk to me about the decision uh not to extend Laporta. You have him for six dollars, you put him up for auction, didn't get what you wanted there. Um, you know, number one tight end two years ago, a little bit of a down year last year, but still a top five tight end. Um why not not why not extend him for seven, eight, nine bucks?
SPEAKER_00Maybe if it was PPR, um you know, tight ends fluctuate. The you know, when you you look at the league, you see what the um oh geez, what's it called? Um the um one-year contract at the end of a contract running out the um tag, the franchise tag. Oh, the franchise tag, yeah. It's like it's like twelve dollars for tight ends. There's a lot of tight ends. And there were four guys that we we thought about extending. I mean, obviously Laporte is one of them and um he was one of the four. I just um you know thought that you know it's a two-quarterback league, so the quarterback gets the extension. HM is on a cheap contract. So for the value you get there, you absolutely have to extend him. And so um, you know, then you get to Laporta, it's just uh it's the tight end.
SPEAKER_01He's the odd man out. Yep, I think that is I agree with your decision making. You can always franchise him, and you know, tight ends don't go for much in this league. Kittle, who is the number one tight end available, I think he only went for 14 bucks in the auction. So they're available, they're cheap. Um, so I think you made the right choice there.
unknownYeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01It's really interesting in this league. We we had two guys on the podcast last week who are anti-draft picks. Uh, they've traded away and are interested in trading away draft picks for current players. If you look at your team, you guys have hit on draft picks, right? You have Bucky Irving signed for three, four dollars, you'll be able to extend him. We talked about the a-chain and rice contract. Um, so it's really interesting the different strategies in this league. Some guys want all the draft picks, some guys don't. And so it'll be interesting over time how that plays out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, I I I think, and you know, I'll say this here because I I really can't see myself trading for any first round picks next year. I I have two of them, right? We have two of them, Will and I. Um you know, I'm excited about the quarterback class for next year. This is a two quarterback league. And you know, so I'm happy to have two first round picks next year.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and it looks like uh the uh Robbie Gould is draftable could be a early first round pick. Um Klein is currently sitting uh in ninth place out of ten. Um so you you have a chance there that that could be a really nice uh asset for you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we'll see. It's a long, long, long year.
SPEAKER_01It is it is a long, it is a long year. Unless you're old old Garfels and have only scored 135 and are 0-2 through through two. Will Will Creeley, we look forward to having you on the pod. Um what are your thoughts uh on on Dynasty format so far?
SPEAKER_00I I like Dynasty. I played in One Dynasty a while back, maybe 10 years ago, wasn't it for five or six years? But it wasn't now, I mean, with um all the contracts and everything that can be done in Dynasty. Uh before I think we kept like seven people, right? And that's Dynasty. I had a rookie draft, three-round rookie draft just like this. But you know, I really like the accessibility of the app. Uh feel to me, it feels like pretty intuitive. Um like doing the bidding and the contracts. So uh I've liked I've liked that. And I've always wanted to do a format like this. I wanted to do a format like this for uh football and for basketball as well. Um I think I think both of those would be fun. So I'm happy that uh I I hadn't heard about League Tycoon before this, but uh yeah, I've been you know impressed so far.
SPEAKER_01What what do you think of the slow draft? The slow auction bit.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, um that was fine, right? I mean, um, because I kind of jumped in for me, it was good because I jumped in in the middle of it. And so because it was moving slowly, it gave me a lot of time to think about it, right? It's um you know, if you're doing like any kind of draft, um I think you'll notice uh you you see this in basketball a lot, right? Where uh there is like I think a 10-point advantage, right, to your team, just which is small, minuscule, but um over the course of a whole season, but having a little bit of time to think. Like uh I think we're so in this instance, like jumping in and having uh having some time to think about what was going on was helpful for me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I I like the slow draft. I think it's fun. I don't do it in any other league. You know, I think we should think about adjusting the times for bids and stuff. Uh, but I think it's a fun to do something different, you know. Everybody, we have these live auctions and you're in the midst of it and you're bidding, bidding, bidding. And I think it's the the for me, the slow pace, it extends the draft. I think the draft is some of the most fun part of fantasy football, how you're gonna construct your team, how you're thinking of it. And uh, so I like that it's different than other leagues. We don't do it every year. Um, sometimes if we can get a date, we'll do a normal draft and have it over in a couple hours. Um, but I actually prefer the uh slow draft, and uh I'm gonna be campaigning to uh to have it be that way every yeah.
SPEAKER_00I I may well, you know, I think with the frantic pace at the end, um going up to what was it, 12, 14 guys, whatever there was on the board. And I know it's just like one and two dollar guys. Um you know, I don't know when the draft started, but also I think I would have felt okay. I mean, I was okay with like a 15-hour start clock, but I think I would have felt fine with like an eight-hour start clock as well. And what I really wish, uh, if uh you know League Tycoon is looking for feedback, if I could vote that I'm not gonna draft this guy no matter what, and if nine guys said that, it would just move forward.
SPEAKER_01I like that, Phil. I do like that. Um yeah, I think you know, we just ran out of time this year. We'd needed to have started it earlier. Um it's fine.
SPEAKER_00And it's you know, it's like dollar, you know, dollar backups, right? At the end.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Which you know, but for you though, you got Pat Bryant, Bretton Strange, and Jalen Knold for a dollar, all slapped on a two-year contract on them. Hope one of them pops, and then you have a guy for four years. So I thought that was a uh a nice strategy by you. And if they don't, you can cut them and move on, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yep, and um, you know, I think um some mid-tier wide receivers, right? I think I just feel like uh getting in you know solid running backs and quarterbacks are really important, and just you know, building out a decent wide receiver room um is probably puts you in contention.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I think for you, just looking great starting lineup. Uh your bench, your bench leaves something to be desired. You have Rasheed Rice coming back. Um, but not many startable guys on your bench at the moment. Uh, Dontavia Wicks looks like he might be popping this year. Um Kendra Miller, he could be a nice piece. You know, Elvin Kamara, there's always rumors he's gonna get traded. Um White could step in if Bucky gets hurt, Brashard Smith hoping he pops. So there's a lot of guys with potential upside. Um, but if you have an injury this week, you'll be in a little bit of a tough situation.
SPEAKER_00Maybe. Yeah, we'll we'll see. But you know, we'll see. We'll see what happens.
SPEAKER_01You know, I think in this format, though, you certainly have the the best running back room in the league. You know, Josh Jacobs, Bucky Irving, McCaffrey, and A-Chain, you know, all RB1s. And if need be, you'll be able to wheel and deal those guys um to you know for multiple pieces if need be. But that starting lineup you've uh you've put together is quite scary.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, we'll we'll we'll see, right? Like I said, we have the $53 contract, so lean into the McCaffrey contract, get a good starting lineup. If it doesn't work out this year, the $53 contract is off the books next year, and it'll be a decent amount of money to play with, plus, there's two first-round draft picks and you know, just start restocking after that.
SPEAKER_01Uh I Brian Robinson is sitting on my bench and available if you're looking to trade for him. And I and I have Isaac Garetto too, I just realized. So if you're looking for uh and Mac Jones, so if you're looking for Niners backups, uh I I got your uh your help to McCaffrey right there.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I'll tell you, man. I you know, I really went in on the Niners backfield and on a little bit on Brian Robinson this year just because of the situations. And um, you know, obviously I hope I have a lot of McCaffrey all over the place. So um, you know, I feel I just yeah, I feel good about McCaffrey if he puts a whole year together.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and we're we're so far where you got McCaffrey in the draft, you know, he's holding up, right? He is the bell cow. The other running backs have had some issues. Um, so you know, he's looking good. I got Jonathan Taylor in this league, non-PPR, he's looking great to start the year. Gibbs is having a little bit of trouble. Uh Bichan's looking great. So, you know, if you got one of those top running backs, you're feeling good. And you got four of them, so it's a good spot to be.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, oh man, Indianapolis has really come out come out well this year. And if the offense is churning in Indianapolis, you have to feel great about Taylor, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you gotta just think how bad Anthony Richardson is at football. You also have to think on the flip side, you know, we saw it with Saquon last year, you're seeing it with uh Daniel Jones this year. That New York Giants team is terrible. Their coaching staff, the offense, the offensive line, and uh Danny Dimes has weapons to throw to. He has stability in the pocket, and he he runs the ball, which he always did do in New York. He had a top 10 uh season in New York before fantasy season before it all fell apart. But he is looking really nice on uh on Goodnight Moon's team right now, uh, who picked him up in the auction for four bucks and uh and has paired him with Jaden Daniels, and uh his team uh is looking really nice with that Daniel Daniel Jones uh pick in the draft.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean uh so hopefully Daniels isn't out too long. I know he's out this week.
SPEAKER_01Is he uh he's officially out this week? I hadn't seen that news.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I got uh an alert on my phone saying that he's out this week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's um you know it's one of those reasons why some people went Marvin Harrison over him last year in the uh in in rookie drafts. There was the injury concerned around Daniels, right? And you guys clearly took uh Caleb one. A lot of guys took Marvin Harrison two, then uh Jaden went off at three, and neighbors went off at four. And the concern about neighbors was he took some vicious hits at LSU in college. And uh, could he survive the pro game? Looked unbelievable in his first season, um, but a knee injury for his style of game is very scary. And I think if you're the commanders, you gotta be safe. So I think that's the right decision to make sure he's he he comes back strong.
SPEAKER_00I think so. And they're at home. They have the Raiders coming across the country on a on a short week, right? The Raiders playing uh playing a late Monday night game. Um so and uh who's their backup? Mariota. So yeah, it's uh it's a pretty decent situation for them if you have to sit Daniels.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, it is. Uh I'm gonna throw this out there to you. If you are looking for wide receivers, uh, I'm looking to trade. Uh I got C D Puka, Mike Evans, T. Higgins, Waddle, and uh I am looking to upgrade at the running back uh position. So uh I also have Travis Hunter on my bench and Matt Golden. So if you're looking to make a trade uh for one of your running backs at any point, uh I am interested.
SPEAKER_00I appreciate that. I think for this version of the team, we're gonna we're gonna lean into the running backs. We're gonna we're gonna lean into our touchdown makers.
SPEAKER_01It's early, it's early in the season. We we have a long ways to go. So uh I'm sure we'll be in touch. Like I said earlier, to those listening, Phil is active. He's looking to trade, he'll respond to trades. Um, you know, I don't know. Phil, have you been throwing out trades to any other teams? I I saw you you put Laporta up for the auction, didn't get what you were looking for, but have you been uh throwing out any trades to anybody?
SPEAKER_00No, not yet. And a little bit of it is um, you know, I feel like Laporta is a move candidate. Um, I you know, especially with Ingram, Fanon, Strange. I think they can kind of carry the water for the team. Um Laporta's not on an extended contract, which I think maybe would make them a little more valuable. Um it feels like the offers have been close, but a little bit of it is um like busyness and like thinking through exactly what what it is I want to do with Laporta. And also, can this team win, right? Like is Laporta the best option to help the team win?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I think you know Ingram has looked terrible through uh through two games, but you know, he's sort of coming off injury in the offseason, I believe. Um you know, he's coming off, you know, a hundred catch season two years ago, then had injuries. Um, everybody was pretty hyped for him in a Sean Payton offense. So I think you know it's it's some people are giving up on him, but I think it's too early uh to see what happened. Fannin obviously came out of the gate hot. Um, question with Nojoku just how many touches are there gonna be? And strange, I have no idea what he's done this year. What's he done? Six fantasy points the first week, two the second week, playing a lot of football, just hasn't scored a touchdown. Is that basically what's happened so far?
SPEAKER_00Yep, and we're in, you know, we're two weeks into it. So the you know, we'll we'll find out a lot more in weeks you know four through fourteen.
SPEAKER_01Yep, yep, that is for sure. All right, let's wrap this up here. Anything you want to uh share about yourself? Do you have a family? Anything personal? Give give us give us some information here, Phil.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I mean I do have a family. Um got a couple kids, and um, you know, we're we're Bills fans. How how how old are your kids? I have a 16-year-old and a three-year-old.
SPEAKER_01Okay, you spaced it out nicely.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right, that's right. And um they're you know, kind of a funny age to have together, and uh explaining to the 16-year-old that your teenage angst is like really impressionable on a three-year-old. So, right, like my 16-year-old is great, but it's like, do please don't sigh and roll your eyes.
SPEAKER_01Like boys or girls. Oh, they're boys, yeah, boys, yeah, yeah. My uh my oldest, I have a 13-year-old boy, almost 12-year-old boy, and a nine-year-old girl. And uh, I'm just getting to that teenage years with my 13-year-old. I am not prepared for a a driver in the house. Is your 16-year-old driving? He is not, he is not.
SPEAKER_00Um, he likes cars, not driving, uh, just turned 16.
SPEAKER_01And it feels like that whole generation isn't driving.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there's a lot of kids that drive around here. Um but um yeah, like I can't really believe it. I you know, I grew up, man, not a lot of my friends drove, right? I think like one person had a car and the car that they had was something cobbled together uh, you know, under a thousand dollars. So uh I don't know. I I think I just you know see a lot of kids driving cars that are too nice for a 16-year-old to have to me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, I uh I currently drive a 20-year-old 2004 suburban, and that will be what my kids drive when they turn 16.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's exactly, exactly. I now are you in are you in San Francisco?
SPEAKER_01I live south of San Francisco, so I'm uh I live about 10 minutes from the San Francisco airport.
SPEAKER_00Okay, all right. Yeah, because um, you know, it's so funny. Um, like especially like the old I like the old suburbans, uh, but man, when I was growing up, like suburbans uh were hitched to horse trailers, right? Like you were working the land if you had a suburban and um they're great for a big family. We rent them on trips when we need to pack the car, so they're great for having, and you have three kids. Um, but when I see like an 18-year-old driving a suburban, I'm floored by it.
SPEAKER_01My uh my 16-year-old will be driving this suburban. That will be awesome. You know, you know, the way I think about it is kids make dumb mistakes when they're young and with cars. And if my kid's gonna be in a car, I wanted a big car that they're not gonna get hurt.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, oh, absolutely. Absolutely. And uh, you know, like like uh like you said, it's a nice uh like classic at this point, 20 years, right? You're going on classic status.
SPEAKER_01It's uh well I just gotta hold on so it doesn't break apart. Uh on that note, we've really uh derailed the conversation. Phil, anything else you want to share with the league?
SPEAKER_00I mean, I'm sure that there is, but we have plenty of time to go over a lot of different things. And uh definitely uh oh, yes, there is one thing. I I wish I would have jumped in the chat sooner. I appreciate it. The welcomes and uh it was not lost on me. Uh the the welcoming uh feelings from the league, and I should have said something sooner. I appreciate being here.
SPEAKER_01What what what chat are you talking about?
SPEAKER_00What's that?
SPEAKER_01What chat are you talking about?
SPEAKER_00Oh, just our chat for the DL3. Someone you know.
SPEAKER_01Oh, in league in league in league tycoon.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. I don't think I have really responded, maybe I have, but I don't feel like I've responded or kind of engaged in the chat online. Uh I have appreciated how chatty the league is or can be. Um and you know, anything I have to share, you know, not with done within this 45-minute period. I look forward to you know jumping in the chat in the future.
SPEAKER_01Awesome. And if you ever want to host a podcast and just have someone else on and talk football, maybe you and your boy uh Will Creeley could uh get on and talk. We'd love it. We'll we'll post it and uh we'll go from there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_01All right, thanks, Phil. Appreciate you, man. Take it easy.
