Welcome everyone to the weekly Bible study podcast, and I'm your host, Mark Williams, and today we're immersing ourselves into the life-changing reality of the Holy Spirit, the often misunderstood essential of the third person of the Trinity. Many Christians know about the Holy Spirit, but don't experience the His fullness. See, some see Him as a vague force, others as an emotional high, and but Scripture reveals him as God Himself, powerful, personal, and holy, and intimately involved in our lives. From hover hovering over the waters in creation to empowering the church at Pentecost and indwelling every believer today, the Holy Spirit is central to central to God's redemptive story in this episode. We'll explore what what who is the Holy Spirit, who the Holy Spirit is, his divine attributes, his personality, and um we'll also explore his powerful work in the Old Testament, Old and New Testaments, the explosive power available to us, the fruit and gifts he produces and distributes, the practical steps will we can be fulfilled to walk in the steps with him daily. We'll ground everything in scripture. And you can further study, uh, grab your Bible, a journal, and an open heart. Okay. Who is the Holy Spirit? His divine He's His divine person and attributes. The Holy Spirit is fully God, co-equal, co-eternal with the Father and the Son. He is not an impersonal energy, but a person with intellect, emotions, and will. Divine attributes, um eternal. Um how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal spirit offered himself without blemish to God? Hebrews nine fourteen. He's omnipresent. Where shall where shall I go from your spirit? Or where should I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there. It's Psalm 139, 7 through 10. Omnificent. The Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. First Corinthians 2, 10 through eleven. And he's omnipotent. He is the power of the most high in Luke 1, verse 35. He can't be lied to in Acts 5, 33 through 4, showing you know showing he's God. Uh grieved in Ephesians Ephesians 4 verse 30. Uh reisted reisted in fact uh Acts five seven through fifty-one and quenched in first Thessalonian Thessalonians five nineteen. He speaks as in Acts thirteen two, and teaches as in John fourteen verse twenty-six. He intercedes in Romans eight twenty six through twenty seven and distributes gifts and wills. The spirit of truth, John fifteen, twenty six, sixteen and thirteen, the spirit of holiness. Romans one four, the spirit of love, Romans eight, two, the spirit of wisdom and revelation, Ephesians one, verse seventeen, and many more. The in the Old Testament the Spirit was active, but often came upon individuals for a specific task rather than permanently indwelling in all believers. Um creation, the Spirit of God, hovering over the face of the waters in Genesis 1 2. He gives life in Psalm 104, verse 29 through 30, and Job 23, 4. Um Empowerment. Um for craftsmanship in Exodus 3 3 30 31 3 judges like in Othaniel, Gideon, and Samson and Judges 3 10, 634, and 1416. Kings Saul and David, first Samuel 10, 10, verse 16 and 13, and the prophets. Messiah prophecy. Also Isaiah sixty one verse one fulfilled in Jesus Luke four eighteen through nineteen. The promises of new covenant I will put my forth my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes. Ezekiel thirty six twenty-seven and Joel twenty two twenty-eight through twenty nine poured out upon all flesh. In the New Testament, the Spirit comes in greater fullness after Jesus' glorification in John seven thirty-nine. He conceives Jesus. Matthew one eighteen one, eighteenth, and twenty descends at baptism and leads Jesus and empowers his ministry in Acts 10 38. Jesus promises the helper who will convict the world in John 16, 7 through 11, God into the truth and glory of Jesus. At Pentecost in Acts 2, the promised outpouring arrives with wind, fire, and tongues, empowering 120 believers. This remarks the birth of the church and the new era of the indwelling of the Spirit for all who believe who believe. In the role of salvation, he convicts of sin, regenerates, he seals us, and assures we are children of God in Romans 8.16. Reflective pause, take a moment, and have have you experienced the Holy Spirit's conviction or comfort lately? Thank him now for the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Acts 1.8. This is a mission, uh this is this is mission, holiness, and daily life. Some biblical examples that we can go by is the early church, boldness after fulfilling, signs and wonders, Philip's evangelism, Peter's deliverance from Cornelius household, Paul's ministry, which is very important to me because I can really relate to Paul. I do believe, and Paul was one of the greatest missionaries we ever had and had a radical change by Jesus. He demonstrated the power, uh the spirit and the power of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 2 4. Personal freedom from sin, Romans 8, 2 and 13, strength and weakness. The spirit wars against the flesh. In Galatians 5, 16, 16 through 17. He produces victory where we cannot. Power for prayer and guidance help us pray in Romans 8 26, leads us in power and gives us wisdom for the mission, bold witness, supernatural opportunities, and effectiveness effectiveness beyond natural ability. Throughout the church, history reveals us reveal uh revivals show flesh outpouring, fresh outpourings of the spirit, bringing repentance and joy and evangelism. Today countless testimonies echo this the addictions broken, marriage is restored, courage found in persecution. Um what we can in what area of weakness do you need the spirit to speak over you right now? Um and as it says in Acts 1 8, speak over it. In the Holy Spirit. Um so we're going to talk about the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Um the fruits of the Holy Spirit, as in Galatians 5 22, 20 through 23, but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. There are one cluster of Christ-like character grown as we abide in the Spirit, not manufactured by effort alone. Love sacrificial, like Christ, joy, deep gladness rooted in God, not in circumstances, um, and peace surpasses understanding. And we also learn uh patience endures in trials, kindness, gentleness, tender mercy, and goodness, faithfulness, integrity, and reliability. Um self-control, uh mastery over desires, that is a big one. Um we gotta have self-control. Um by the walk walk by the spirit, as in Galatians 5 25, and crucify the flesh, verse 24. He uh to see the fruit of his mature mature mature gifts of the spirit. Uh 1 Corinthians 12, 4 through 11, varieties of gifts, service and activities from all the same spirit of the common good, examples, uh word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, uh miracles, prophecy, distinguishing spirits, tongues, interpretation of tongues. Others list appear in Romans twelve and Ephesians four. Gifts are manifestations of grace, uh, charisma, uh not for personal prestige, but to build up the body of Christ. Um the they may not they may not must not operate in love in 1 Corinthians 13 and under order in 1 Corinthians 14, fruit reveals character, gifts of real reviv reveal ministry, both who are essential, power without love, um harms uh but love without power may like impact. Discussion. What fruit do we need cultivation in your life? Uh what gifts might your spirit be stirring in you? Experience and being filled with the Holy Spirit today, every believer receives receives the Holy Spirit at salvation. But we are commanded to be fulfilled with the Spirit, a continual, repeatable experience. Some biblical steps we can take um is thirst and ask if you if you are know you are evil and know how to give good gifts. Um but much how much more will the Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit for those who ask him, hunger and thirst and righteousness in Matthew 5.6. Um yield and obey, submit every area, thoughts, words, and actions. Uh do not grieve or quench him. Words and worship. Let the word dwell richly in Colossians 3.16. Sing psalms and hymns, spiritual songs, and faith and community. Um believe God's promises, rather, and gather the believers for corporate feeling, which is church. You know, it's it's not good to be alone. Church was made for a reason, so we can get together and worship Him together. Um, continual walking, set your mind on the Spirit and keep in step. Uh common questions, you know, a lot of people have on is speaking in tongues required? It is one gift, not the only evidence. Um seek the giver, not just the gifts. Uh what if I don't feel anything? Faith precedes feelings and obedience. Opens the door. Um practical steps. Start each day surrendering to Him. Pray in the Spirit, serve others, expecting His power. Journal what He teaches through Scripture. How many have experienced a breakthrough in prayer, uh sudden boldness in sharing faith, or supernatural peace in Christis after each yielding afresh? Okay, um the Holy Spirit is God's empowering presence for every believer. Convicting, comforting, empowering, and comforting us in God's image. He is not optional for victorious Christian living.
