00:04:22.560 And so from the book of Mark, I want to talk to you today from Mark chapter 2. 00:04:22.720 --> 00:04:25.360 So I'll read you this story and then we'll have a word of prayer. 00:04:26.639 --> 00:04:34.319 Mark chapter 2 says, A few days later, when Jesus entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 00:04:34.720 --> 00:04:43.199 They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 00:04:44.000 --> 00:04:48.079 Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man carried by four of them. 00:04:48.800 --> 00:05:00.000 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it, and then they lowered the man the mat the man was lying on. 00:05:00.720 --> 00:05:06.480 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, Son, your sins are forgiven. 00:05:07.759 --> 00:05:13.600 Now some teachers of the law were sitting there thinking to themselves, why does this fellow talk like that? 00:05:14.000 --> 00:05:15.279 He's blaspheming. 00:05:15.360 --> 00:05:18.560 But who can forgive sins but God alone? 00:05:19.519 --> 00:05:25.519 Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this is what they were thinking in their hearts. 00:05:26.319 --> 00:05:32.480 It should be a little bit scary when you realize that God knows what you're thinking, not just what you're saying. 00:05:33.199 --> 00:05:35.600 And so they said to him, Why are you thinking? 00:05:36.079 --> 00:05:38.319 He said to them, Why are you thinking these things? 00:05:38.399 --> 00:05:46.879 Which is which is easier to say to this paralyzed man, your sins are forgiven, or to say, Get up, take your mat and walk. 00:05:47.439 --> 00:05:57.519 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins, and so he said to the man, I tell you, get up, take your mat, and go home. 00:05:57.839 --> 00:06:03.279 And so the man got up, took his mat, and walked out in full view of them all. 00:06:03.759 --> 00:06:10.160 This amazed everyone, and they praised God, saying, We've never seen anything like this. 00:06:10.800 --> --> 00:07:22.959 He had a reputation, and those who were gathered were there. 00:07:23.199 --> 00:07:27.519 I I imagine that it seemed like they were there just to basically say, I'm here now. 00:07:36.480 What are you gonna do? 00:07:37.519 --> 00:07:43.120 I've I've I I'm not I I think it's just human nature for us to be like that, and I've been like that plenty of times. 00:07:43.199 --> 00:07:46.560 I've been to church and basically said, What are you gonna do for me, God? 00:07:46.800 --> 00:07:51.439 Um I can I can recall leaving church services and saying, you know, it was okay. 00:07:51.839 --> 00:07:53.040 It was alright. 00:07:53.439 --> 00:08:00.480 That pastor, his hair was standing up a little too much, and the worship song, I didn't like the worship song, as if the worship songs were for me. 00:08:00.639 --> 00:08:01.839 You know what I mean? 00:08:02.399 --> 00:08:15.680 But here in this setting, we have a group of people that a crowd of people who are packed in so densely that the ones who had a seat, the ones who were close to Jesus, were probably pretty happy about it. 00:08:15.920 --> 00:08:23.360 You can imagine that they felt good that they were in the room, even though there was hardly any room for everyone else. 00:08:23.519 --> 00:08:36.159 And so the ones who were seated and who were next to Jesus, even though they had access to him, actually had now become in our story an obstacle to this other man who needed a miracle. 00:08:36.879 --> 00:08:38.159 Want you to understand that. 00:08:38.320 --> 00:08:42.000 It's not the first time, the only time that we see this happening in the Bible. 00:08:42.159 --> 00:08:44.240 It happens quite a bit in the ministry of Jesus. 00:08:44.399 --> 00:08:47.679 You can remember there's a moment where there's a woman who has an issue of blood. 00:08:47.840 --> 00:09:01.039 She's been sick for 12 years, and she wants to get to Jesus, but the crowds are so intense that she has to press through the crowds just to be able to grab on to the hem of his garment. 00:09:02.159 --> 00:09:09.679 You can think of that man Zacchaeus, who was a tax collector, and the Bible says he's vertically challenged. 00:09:09.840 --> 00:09:11.440 He's just a short guy. 00:09:11.759 --> 00:09:20.159 Can't see over the crowd, and so he has to climb a sycamore tree in order to get a view of Jesus, and then has his whole moment there. 00:09:20.320 --> 00:09:29.840 So there's all kinds of moments like this, except for the difference with our story is that the man in our story can't press through the crowds because he's paralyzed. 00:09:29.919 --> 00:09:32.000 He can't climb any tree. 00:09:32.320 --> 00:09:39.440 He literally is stuck, and the people that are with Jesus have become the obstacle to him getting his miracle. 00:09:39.600 --> 00:09:42.559 So here I have two points today that I want to share with you. 00:09:42.720 --> 00:09:45.759 And some of you like to take, I I always for some other stuff. 00:10:33.440 --> 00:10:45.440 Pastor Jamie and I were together, and I got to visit this church, and being able to see kind of what God has been doing in IES from that snapshot until today is remarkable. 00:10:45.519 --> 00:10:46.399 It's phenomenal. 00:10:46.559 --> 00:10:56.080 As a matter of fact, I would literally say this church could possibly be the most perfect church if it weren't for the people. 00:10:59.200 --> 00:11:00.639 You know, you know what I mean? 00:11:00.720 --> 00:11:03.679 Like it would be it, you know, people are looking for the perfect church. for the people involved. 00:11:37.120 --> 00:11:39.039 And this honestly is why. 00:11:39.200 --> 00:11:45.840 Watch, I'm just giving you a heads up, watch out because AI relationships are on the rise. 00:11:46.559 --> 00:11:59.840 People are very happy to talk to chat like a friend and to get counsel from Claude because, well, chat literally is always in a good mood for now. 00:12:01.360 --> 00:12:05.840 Claude is is never really pushing back on anything, he's always gonna be polite to us. 00:12:06.000 --> 00:12:16.159 And so people like that to say, oh, I like somebody who doesn't require patience, who doesn't require generosity or or love or forgiveness in any way. 00:12:16.320 --> 00:12:23.200 Once you get real people involved, that's what's required because real people bring moment between me and my father, but it was probably the six or eight most boring hours of my life. 00:12:50.080 --> 00:12:56.720 Um you know, we were in a little, this is what I recall, just floating what what you had to do is you had to put bait on the end of the fishing line, and you would throw the line in the water and then hope that you'd catch the fish you were aiming for. 00:13:09.919 --> 00:13:12.960 And I don't recall ever catching a fish at that moment. 00:13:13.200 --> 00:13:19.200 And so basically, my takeaway from that is your guy is not gonna go fishing with you today. 00:13:40.240 And so when you fish with a net, you don't you're not just aiming for one kind of fish. 00:13:40.399 --> 00:13:48.960 You're not putting a little bait on the line saying, Oh, we just want to get the nice people, or we just want to get the people who are smart, we just want to get the people who are really good and easy. 00:13:49.200 --> 00:13:50.559 That's not how it works. understood what God is doing here because the seeds of a great move of God have been planted here in this church, and everyone is coming. 00:14:49.519 --> 00:14:52.879 That means all kinds of people are gonna be here. 00:14:53.039 --> 00:14:58.960 Jesus is gonna bring them in, and it isn't gonna be for the glory of IES or for the glory of any personality. 00:14:59.120 --> 00:15:03.200 It is literally going to be to glorify the name of Jesus. 00:15:03.519 --> 00:15:09.360 The Holy Spirit is gonna be poured out in such a way that all kinds of people are going to come. 00:15:09.519 --> 00:15:13.519 And thank God that it is not an American Holy Spirit. 00:15:13.759 --> 00:15:33.759 Thank God that he is not an Indonesian Holy Spirit, he's not a French Holy Spirit or a Canadian Holy Spirit, he's not a German Holy Spirit, he's the international Holy Spirit, and he touches and crosses borders and brings people from all kinds of different backgrounds in because literally he is no respecter of persons and no respecter of borders. 00:15:33.919 --> 00:15:44.240 And so, what you're gonna see happen here at IES in this crossroads of nations here in Jakarta is you're gonna see all kinds of people coming in because the Holy Spirit is gonna draw them. 00:15:45.759 --> 00:15:47.600 You have to be ready for this. 00:15:49.200 --> 00:15:53.679 There are only two kinds, two things that the Bible says that God is searching for. 00:15:53.840 --> 00:16:01.279 The first one is this Jesus says in John 4 that the Father is searching for people who will worship him in spirit and in truth. 00:16:01.519 --> 00:16:07.679 And then in Luke chapter 19, it says that he's come to seek and to save the lost. 00:16:07.919 --> 00:16:18.320 So, as far as I can tell, our churches should be churches where we have two kinds of people: worshipers and lost people, and everything in between. 00:16:19.120 --> 00:16:28.480 And so get ready, IES, because the assignment for this next season is going to be prep to be prepared to receive all kinds. 00:16:32.000 --> 00:16:36.320 The problem is when you get all kinds, you get all kinds of problems. 00:16:38.559 --> 00:16:52.559 Somebody's gonna get hurt, somebody's gonna get offended, somebody's gonna carry in a whole bunch of problems and wounds and addictions, and you name it, all the stuff that comes along with that is gonna come here today. 00:16:52.720 --> 00:17:04.079 And so what's gonna happen is that sometimes the people who have the seats here in this place will actually become a barrier to those who need to get to Jesus. 00:17:04.319 --> 00:17:06.000 Just like in the story. 00:17:07.119 --> 00:17:12.480 Just like in the story, it's possible for that to happen, especially, especially the ones. 00:17:12.799 --> 00:17:36.720 If I were the enemy of your soul, if I were wanting to be strategic about how to keep you from being devoted to Jesus, to keep you from growing in your faith, if I wanted to be strategic, I would try and magnify the faults and the failings of everybody else around you who's sitting with Jesus. 00:17:36.960 --> 00:17:42.799 I would want to get you so focused on what on what they said, what they did, how they hurt you. 00:17:42.880 --> 00:17:51.200 I would want to get your heart all twisted up by those people who were that they've become an obstacle to you ever getting to Jesus. are with Jesus to keep you from following him. 00:18:05.039 --> 00:18:07.119 Psalm 34 says this though. 00:18:07.359 --> 00:18:11.839 It says, Oh, magnify the Lord with me. 00:18:12.240 --> 00:18:15.359 Let us exalt his name together. 00:18:15.599 --> 00:18:22.480 And I'm drawing a contrast here because what I found is that you have to choose one or the other, generally speaking. 00:18:22.640 --> 00:18:37.759 It's very difficult to be busy magnifying the faults and the failures, sitting in our offense, sitting in our in our criticism, uh, to be magnifying all those other failings of other people and to magnify the Lord. 00:18:37.920 --> 00:18:39.440 I have to choose one or the other. 00:18:39.599 --> 00:18:43.519 And that's why it's so good when we train our hearts just to magnify the Lord. 00:18:43.680 --> 00:18:48.160 I don't know what they're doing over here, and man, I God, I can't answer for all that they're doing. 00:18:48.319 --> 00:18:51.920 And so I just have to turn them loose to you, God, and let you deal with them. 00:18:52.079 --> 00:18:54.960 I'm gonna be be busy magnifying you. 00:18:55.119 --> 00:18:58.319 And everybody, oh, magnify the
