Hey guys, welcome to the Bourbon and college podcasts and Youtube channels depending on how you're receiving this. Um, Austin, let's get started. So today I'm going through a top five list. This top five list is the top five Bourbon's under 50. Now this was decided by, not me, not some website. This was decided by you, uh, on Instagram a few weeks ago, I posted a picture asking people to accommodate their favorite bourbons under $50. I got a compiled the top five, there was a lot that tied. So I kinda had a little decision making there based off of what I had and what I like. And so this is the result of that. I'm going to give you the top five. They're in order of how I like them. This is no real order. There's no official order. They're all good. Get them all. So I'm going to start with, uh, I don't want to say the one I liked least, but out of these five, I guess.
Speaker 1:
1:12
So is Elijah Craig small batch. Now long ago, this used to be a 12 year old bourbon, uh, is no longer age stated, but a lot of people think it's still at least close to 12 years. They just don't want to pigeonhole themselves. Um, it's 94 proof. So 47 Abv, it's a, it's a basic bourbon. It's classic. It's, it's really good. It's your step up above Jim beam, Jack Daniels. All of these are over that really, um, this is one of the first bourbon that got my collection. Um, you'll see the actual first one layer. I'm not going to give it full review until we get to the last one, which is my favorite. Then I'll give you a full review quickly on the nose. Classic Bourbon. It's a lot of vanilla, a little bit of Caramel. Okay.
Speaker 2:
2:06
Hmm.
Speaker 1:
2:08
That's good. It's not too, too complex. It's more complex than your, like you said, like I said, your Jack Daniels and Jim beam. It's, it's, it's interesting. That's an easy drinker. I enjoy it. So that's what I was, Greg. Now, you may or may not see this between each one and obviously you were on the podcast podcasts. I'm going to edit more, but in between each I'm filling my glass with water,
Speaker 2:
2:44
drinking it,
Speaker 1:
2:51
it hydrates me and it cleans out the glass. I don't have enough glassware. Doe can you glass, which is also, why am I doing a full tasting all of these. So that's one. Now my number two, it was a first for me. It's the first Bourbon I got within 10 of collecting. Um, buffalo trace class buffalo trace. This one of the rouses store picks with a single barrel, but buffalo trace is my number two is my number four on the list of top 550. This one, uh, wiser Craig, I don't have the price on cause I bought it well before I keep track of this, this bottle I got for like $32, again at a single barrel and can find it cheaper. Other places you can find it more expensive other places. It is what it is. Um, I've reviewed this one fully already as well as Elijah Craig. Uh, so again, short reviews, no, this is, this is the, the Bourbon I suggest that you get people into. If you're trying to get them into bourbon, it's a good start. It's easy. Like [inaudible] yeah, it's like Elijah Craig. It's easy, simple. It's not going to smack you and it's not going to throw you for a loop on what you're smelling. Tasting.
Speaker 2:
4:10
Okay.
Speaker 1:
4:15
I get a little bit of citrus on this one. I don't know why I always have from this. Um, this is my second bottle of the same barrel, same store pick. Um, and this, this barrel I get a eliminates and maybe that's buffalo trace. I haven't had an eye, just a plain buffalo trace and awhile. Well that's good. That's delicious. Drinks is all this and my daily, you know, one of my daily drinkers and one of my go tos. I love it.
Speaker 2:
4:52
[inaudible]
Speaker 1:
4:55
all right, so that's number two. Hi Guys. So my number three bourbon, top five bourbon under $50. It's also a classic four roses single barrel. Now, so far these first three bourbons have been bourbons. You see all the way, at least when I was watching all the media and listening to the podcast seeds with a big starter bourbons, couldn't agree more. Very good for the, for the, uh, $35 price. I believe I got this for awesome, awesome bourbon. It's my second. Bobby can see how far, how far down it is. So who would that sound to you? A little taste of it and see.
Speaker 1:
5:43
All right, so this one again, it's a say being a single barrel. So it's going to be unique. Each bottle is gonna be a little different. Now the store picks him old barrels have certain um, uh, recipes. Um, they have I believe two different mash bills and for three, four or five different types of needs. So that brings a whole combination recipes. I don't know how they do the single barrels that are regular release. I'm pretty sure they are all one recipe could be wrong on that. But good bourbon. These, these three you've seen so far? We're actually the sum of the first, probably the first three bourbons I had in my collection. So I went along with the classic starter out Berberine Wise, obviously.
Speaker 2:
6:32
Hmm.
Speaker 1:
6:34
The little bit of nuttiness on this or otherwise classic vanilla and Caramel. It's a little more complex than the other two, which the first one I got that was really a more interesting, interesting bourbon.
Speaker 2:
6:50
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
6:53
Hi. Right. I believe that's where I get a little spice in there from that. Um, this is a hundred proof, so it's got a little more kick than the, than the 40 proof. Uh, buffalo trace in the 43, I'm sorry, 40%, 80 proof buffalo trace and 86 proof Elijah Craig, but still not hot by the way, is still a good beginner. I wouldn't start with this necessarily, but I would definitely be in the first week.
Speaker 2:
7:24
Oh,
Speaker 1:
7:30
hello? Is this episode? No, we've been doing, we've been keeping up. I've been doing a bottom shelf bracket and battle how the semifinal round is coming up and I enjoy that. It's fun trying all those things. Actually I've never tried before. Um, but this is my wheelhouse, this under $50 medium shelf for the normal person. Maybe a little medium lower shelf to the avid bourbon enthusiast, but really good stuff. Easy to get to. None of these are real hard to find. Um, buffalo trace had a scare for a little while that it's hard to find that Bourbon for while. But here I'm going to never had any issue in baton rouge.
Speaker 2:
8:18
Hmm.
Speaker 1:
8:22
Four roses, single barrel. Now my number four before I grab that, we'll enjoy the rest of this and drink some water.
Speaker 2:
8:35
Yeah,
Speaker 1:
8:36
her poured this one a little heavy for a, a sample poor. But Hey, okay. So I dunno how we're going to do top five under a boundary top five under 75, top five under a hundred, and then maybe more at past that if budget permits. But man, y'all want to start sending me something or something? I can't buy all this. Okay.
Speaker 1:
9:13
Behind me is where I moved my scotch shelf too. And most of my world world whisky shelf, cause I ran out of room and I made my main bar just to just a bourbon bar. So the number two, Eh, uh, based off Y'alls votes, the number to bourbon under $50, it's equal rare. This is a 10 year Kentucky Straight Bourbon whiskey used to be single barrels. Not Anymore. While I understand the buffalo trace product, right, my understand it's still almost single barrel, but the machine they use to be considered a single barrel, they have to make sure it's completely empty and completely cleaned out before they pour another barrel in. They don't want it to do that. So maybe a little bit of remnants of the last barrel but still almost single barrel. Again, from what I understand, this one is 45%, so 90 proof. This is a lot sweeter. My opinions like candy being that 10 year age, it gets real candied a lot. I see that with rise and I see that with even high rye bourbon, which I believe this is, it's not a Weeder, that's for sure. Um, but after about eight to 10 years gets real candy.
Speaker 2:
10:39
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
10:47
Yeah. Sweet. It's definitely more oaky.
Speaker 3:
10:52

Speaker 1:

$50 I have the 2019 San Francisco Spirit, world's spirits competition, bourbon of the year, whiskey of the year. Henry Mckenna, tenure, bottled and bond.
Speaker 1:
12:13
Let me get the name right. Age 10 years. Henry Mckenna, single barrel, Kentucky straight bottled and Bond Bourbon whiskey. Now this is the 2009 release, which I still think is really good. Some people say it's not as good as the 2008 I've had them both. I think they're pretty much one what, but you know, people say, well, whatever. This was hard to find because at one bourbon of the year last year after winning, after finding this, I got a bottle. Then I heard it one whiskey of the year this year. So as you can see back there about two more bottles that'd been said. This is also, this is probably my favorite bourbon on my shelf
Speaker 1:
12:59
with an asterisk. So I'll talk in my head right now. It's definitely my favorite, although my favorite changes often. So you never know, could just be the height. I think it lives up to the hype. A lot of people argue it casings weird, but it wasn't just one person. It was 40 people on a panel voted this whiskey of the year. So I trust it. It's really good. No matter how you feel about it is good. I'm going to give a full review on it now. The color is darker. It's, I mean age 10 years. So it's been in the oak for awhile. I haven't held product. It's been bottling bond. It's a hundred proof. Um, man, I get like maple syrup on the nose, the classic Vanilla, a fresh cam on. Not like a camel sauce. Like a fresh caramel.
Speaker 2:
13:55
Hmm.
Speaker 1:
13:56
Super Sweet. Like a pie. Almost.
Speaker 2:
14:00
All right. See? Yeah,
Speaker 1:
14:11
like a vanilla caramel latte without the coffee. Does have a little bit of darker, I think comes from the Oak. It's not really coffee, but it's, it's good. It's, it's like a pie. Like I said, like I'm a nose, get a little bit of maple.
Speaker 2:
14:34
Hmm.
Speaker 1:
14:37
Not Naughty at all, which is using my favorite tasting note in a bourbon. But Dang, this is so good. It's so complex for being $30 28 to 32 I got this one for 20 I got those two for 30 it blows my mind how good it is for the price. Again, I can't fairly say it's bourbon of the year or whiskey of the year cause I, there's so many good and expensive and not expensive bourbons and whiskeys I've never had so I can't fairly say that, but right now is probably the favorite on my shelf and it's been since I got it. And that was before I found out one whiskey of the year. That's before at one whiskey of the year. So that's my 2 cents on that finish is okay, but it's not over. Oh it's that perfect amount of oakiness and Caramel, you know, long lasting finish. She still go, but I'm going to think a little bit water. Try it again. The nose just gets me, it's my fit. It's definitely my favorite knows.
Speaker 2:
16:05
Yes,
Speaker 1:
16:09
it's something new every time it's rich. I wouldn't sit here and drink this all day. It's kind of, it's definitely rich and complex. It had been like my starter bourbon for the day and then I'll move to like a buffalo trace or I've been really enjoying some Isaac Bowman port finish cause you want to, you want to sit and ponder this one and you don't want to be drinking and all day just to throw it back. It's not something you throw back something. It makes you think, which is really rare with a bourbon. It's price range.
Speaker 1:
16:53
It's nothing like the Henry Mckenna, uh, the baseline Henry Maketto. In fact though, it, ah, the baseline is simple. It's there, it's decent. It didn't make it through in the bottom south bracket challenge. This is just years and years literally above it. Um, congratulations to having hail and Henry Mckenna for um, wanting whiskey of the year. It's awesome. Bourbon beat Scotch. That's, that's amazing. I like Scotch as you can tell. Nothing against it. But Bourbon is my, it's my jam. So happy for it. Thanks for watching this. I hope you, uh, hope you learn something. If you're new to whiskey, new to bourbon, just finding this video, try these out. They're all cheap. You can't go wrong by about any of the five by it. I would start with Elijah Craig or buffalo trace or even an eagle. Rare cause. This one's a little more complex, but you can't go wrong with any of these.
Speaker 1:
18:11
